Charging the battery
Makesurethattheelectricalinformationonthelabelofthechargingunit
correspondstothatofthepowersource.
Plugthepowersupplyintoanelectricaloutlet.
Plugthepowersupplyjackintothesocketonthebackofthedevice.
Donotusethepowersupplyifitiswetordamp.
ThechargingprocesshasseveralphraseswhichareindicatedbytwoLEDs,green
andorange(asshownabove).
•Immediatelyafterconnectingthepowersupply,theorangeLEDstarts
toash.
•AfterafewsecondstheorangeLEDstopsashingandremainslit.
•Forabout10minutesthechargingispartialwhiledeviceautomatically
checksthebatterycondition.
•Afterabout10minutesthechargingstartsandproceedstoafullcharge.
•Whenchargingiscompleted,theorangeLEDturnsoffandthegreenLED
lightsup.

Openthelidofthethermalpapercompartmentandremoveitfromthedevice;
removethepaperrollholder.Insertthenewrollofpaperontothepaperrollholder.

advancethroughtheslotinthecompartment
whenitisclosed;closethelidofthe
compartment.

theanthropometricdetailsofthesamesubject.Thisavoidshavingtoreinsertallofthe
dataofthatpatient.

Spirometry: FVC, SVC/VC, MVV
Allsubjectdatamustbeenteredbeforecarryingoutaspirometrytest.
Thetestcanbemadefromthemainscreenorfromanydisplaythatshowsaprevious
testresult(lasttest,besttestortestinmemory).
Selectthespirometrytest:
TomaketheFVCtest
TomaketheVC/IVCandventilatoryproletests
TomaketheMVVtest.
WhenatestisbeingperformedthedisplaywillshowtherealtimeFlow/Volumecurve
ortheVolume/timecurve.
Thetestmustbeginwithin30secondsofpressingthestartkey,otherwisethetestis
interruptedandthedevicereturnstothemainscreen.
FVC
Ifrequired(thispartisoptional),beforethetestmakeseveralbreathsatrest.When
ready,inspireslowlyasmuchairaspossible(openingthearmshelps)andthenexpire
alloftheairasfastaspossible.Then,withoutremovingthemouthpiecefromthe
mouth,nishthetestbyinspiringagainasfastandascompletelyaspossible.
Thisnalinspirationisnotnecessaryinthecasethattheinspiratoryparameters(FIVC,
FIV1,FIV1%,PIF)arenotrequired.
Thecyclecanberepeatedseveraltimes,withoutremovingthemouthpiece,inwhich
casespirolabIII™willautomaticallyselectandshowthebesttestandmeasured
parameters.
Toendtestpress orjustwaitfor3secondsafterthelastvolumecycle,thetest
terminatesautomatically.
VC
Itispossible(optional)tobeginthetestbymakingseveralcompletebreathsatrest.
Afterthreeorfoursimilarbreaths,amessage(VC/IVC)onthedisplaywillindicatethat
theventilatoryprolehasbeenmeasuredandyoucannowproceedtocarryouttheVC
orIVCtest.
VCtest:WhenthemessageVC/IVCappears,inspireslowlyasmuchairaspossibleinto
thelungsandthenexpireslowlyasmuchairaspossible.
Toendthetestpress orwait3secondsafterthelastvolumecycle.
Ifyoumakethetestwithouttheventilatoryprole(respiratoryfunctionatrest)thenthe
measuredparameterwillbeonlyVCorIVC.Instead,bycarryingoutseveralcomplete
breathsatrest,theninadditionallmeasuredparametersoftheventilatoryprolewill
begiven.
MVV
Startthetestbycarryingoutaseriesofforcedinspirationsandexpirationswiththe
maximumpossibleamplitude.Thesuggestedfrequencyis30breaths/min.Thetestwill
terminateautomaticallyafter12seconds.
Toendtestpress orwait3secondsafterthelastvolumecycle.
Attheendofanytest,therelatedcurvesandthemainmeasuredparametersareshown.
Afterviewingthecurves,press toviewtheremainingtestparameters,plus
thepredictedvaluesandthepercentageratiobetweenthemeasuredvalueandthe
predictedvalue.

TointerruptdatatransmissionduringtheBluetoothconnectionpress toendthe
connectionandtoreturntothemainscreen.
Wherenodevicehasbeensetupfordatatransmission,amessagewillappearonthe
displaytostartsearchingforenableddevices.Aftersettingthedevicetheconnection
willstartupautomatically.
Data Transmission through Bluetooth for printing
TheBluetoothsystemenablesspirolabIII™totransfertestdatadirectlytoaprinter
withBluetooth.Thesequenceofactivitiestobefollowedis:
•Whenthetestisnishedpresstwice
•spirolabIII™willcarryoutthephasesofconnection.
•AttheendofthetransmissionspirolabIII™willshowthemessage
“CONNECTIONCOMPLETED”,returningautomaticallytothemainscreen
Previoustestsstoredonlecanalsobeprinted.Usetheproceduredescribedin
Paragraph2.11toprintrequiredtests.
•Whentherequiredtestisshownonthedisplay,presstwice
TointerruptdatatransmissionduringBluetoothconnectionpress toendthe
connectionandtoreturntothemainscreen.
Wherenoprinterhasbeensetup,amessagewillappeartosearchfordevices.After
thedevicehasbeensetupitwillautomaticallybeenabledforprinting.
WhensearchingforBluetoothenableddevices,spirolabIII™willchecktheaddress
ofthatdeviceandwhereapreviouslyregistereddevicehaschangedname,itwillbe
automaticallyupdated.

Connection to a PC through a USB port
Tomaketheconnectioninsertthe
miniUSBconnectorsuppliedwith
spirolabIII™asshowninthepictureand
attachtheotherconnectortotheUSB
portofthePC.
Attherstconnection,thePCwill
requesttheinstallationofthedriver
correspondingtothenewdevicebeing
used;followtheautomaticprocedure
intheoperatingsystem,enterthe
followingpathwhentherequestforthedriverappears.
If WinspiroPRO software is installed rst this step is automatic.
Windows2000andhigherversionsenterthefollowingpath:
C:\MIR\winspiroPro\Driver\MIR USB drivers
TochecktheconnectionbetweenthedeviceandthePC,ensurethattheledonthe
deviceison.
Connection to a PC through a RS 232 port
SpirolabIII™canbeconnectedtoaPC
throughaRS232serialport.Thisleaves
theUSBportfree.Thepictureshowsthe
RS232connectorattachedtospirolabIII™.

Downloading Data from Device to PC
Todownloadthetestdatafromthedevicetothecomputer,opentheWinspiroPRO
softwarethatisinstalledonyourcomputer.Nextitwithshowthescreenbelow,to
retrievethedatagotwiththedeviceconnectedtothecomputerviatheUSBcableand
turnedon.Click“DataRC”,whichisthe4infromtherightsideofthetoolbar.
Afterclickon“DataRC”youwillbebroughttoanewwindow,inthisscreenselect
the“ReceiveviaUSB”topullthedatafromthedeviceintotemporarystorageonthe
pcuntilsaved.
Uponcompletionofdownloadingthedatafromthedeviceyouwillseeinthetableof
temporarylesreceivedalogofthecurrentdownload.Theninthetablebelowitwill
showalltheteststhathavenotbeensavedtoaparticularpatientasofyet.
