with many advanced features including support for secure calling with Trusted Layer
Security (TLS) and Secure Real-time Transfer Protocol (SRTP), a built-in IP Security
(IPSEC) Virtual Private Network (VPN) client. Furthermore, its audio system has been
improved not only for wide band HD(High Definition) voice call, but also with the super
wide band music play quality.
The IP3072 supports six lines and 24 call appearances to satisfy even the busiest users.
Utilizing a next generation resistive touch 4.3” LCD screen and capacitive sensitivity
control panel design, the touch-based user interface simplifies even the most complicated
calling features. The IP3072, it can be positioned with multiple tilt angles with a wall mount
option as well, has a built-in two port Gigabit Ethernet switch with Class 2/3 power over
Ethernet (PoE) support, and eight programable keys. The IP3072 supports local
programming through a web browser as well as local and remote auto configuration
through the MOCET auto-provisioning system and management protocols.
The IP3072 supports many supplementary features including call hold, transfer, forwarding,
3-way conferencing, MWI, CWI, music-on-hold (MOH), do not disturb (DND), and auto-
answer and is compliant with industry-standard SIP protocols and many servers including
those based on Metaswitch™, Broadsoft™, Freeswitch™ and Asterisk™. Therefore, the
IP3072 can be deployed and used worldwide.
The IP3072 supports HD audio quality on both the handset, headset and speakerphones
along with support for wideband codecs including G.722. Connectivity options for the

Chapter 2: IP3072 IP Phone Firmware
Architecture
This chapter provides an overview of the IP3072 Smart Office IP Desk Phone firmware big
picture, specifically an understanding of how the phone fits into the network configuration.
If you want to begin setting up your IP3072 phones, go to Chapter 3: Setting up Your
Phone Network.
The IP3072 phone supports the following deployment scenarios.
The Session Initiated Protocol (SIP) is the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF)
standard for multimedia communications over IP. It is an ASCII-based, application-layer
control protocol (defined in RFC3261) that can be used to establish, maintain, and
terminate calls between two or more endpoints. Like other voice over IP (VoIP) protocols,
SIP is designed to address the functions of signaling and session management within a
packet telephony network. Signaling allows call information to be carried across network
boundaries. Session management provides the ability to control the attributes of an end-to-
end call.
For IP3072 phones to successfully operate as a SIP endpoint in your network, it will
require:
A working IP network
Routers configured for VoIP
VoIP gateways configured for SIP
An active, configured call server to receive and send SIP messages
The rest of this chapter consists of the following sections:
Where IP3072 Phones Fit in Your Network
Understanding IP3072 Phone Firmware Architecture
Features Available on Your IP3072 Phones
If you want to begin setting up your IP3072 phones on the network, go to Chapter 3:
Setting up Your Phone Network.
If you want to begin configuring the features available for your IP3072 phones, go to Part 3:
Configuring Your System.
Where IP3072 Phones Fit in Your Network
IP3072 phones connect physically through a Category 5 (Cat-5) cable to a standard office
twisted-pair (IEEE 802.3) 10/100/1000 megabits per second Ethernet LAN and PC ports,
and send and receive all data using the same packet-based technology.
There are many ways to set up a phone network using IP3072 phones. The figure below is
just one example of a netowork setup.

Understanding IP3072 Phone Firmware Architecture
IP3072 has two flash memories; one is for Main Board (BCM1104), and the other one is
for Codec Board (MP421). For the main board flash memory, it contains boot code, phone
application firmware and configuration files. For the codec board flash memory, it contains
GUI + Multimedia firmware and resources files.
Main Board flash memory:
Codec Board flash memory:
For the current each release of firmware, it has one combined image, and seperated
images and mandatory resource files.
“appsip_omega.bin” is a combined image. It includes phone application firmware, GUI
+ Multimedia firmware and resources files. It can be used to upgrade phone through
webpage.

“appsip.bin.gz” includes phone application firmware only.
“SD file” includes GUI + Multimedia firmware and resources files.
In general case, you will only need to use the combined image to upgrade phone firmware
through web page. But, when the phone fails to reboot, you will need to use emergency
upgrade process to upgrade the phone.
What are the Configuration Files?
The configuration files are valid XML files that you can modify using an XML editor.
You can configure IP3072 phones automatically through configuration files stored on a
central provisioning server. Or, you can manually configure a phone using the phone’s
menu system via the local user interface. If you want, you can use the Web Configuration
Interface, or use a combination of the automatic and manual methods.
We recommend that you configure phones automatically through a central provisioning
server. If a provionsing server is not available, you can use one of the manual methods to
update most phone settings.
What are the Resource Files?
Examples of resource files include:
Pictures showing on LCD display
Default music and video files
Font files
Features Available on IP3072 Phones
This section briefly outline the features available on IP3072 phones.
Basic User Features
Configuring Call Forwarding – Provides a flexible call forwarding feature to
forward calls to another destination.
Enabling Call Hold – Pauses activity on one call so that you can use the phone
for another task, such as making or receiving another call.
Configuring the Call Logs – Contains call information such as remote party
identification, time and date, and call duration in three separate lists, dialed calls,
missed calls, and incoming calls.
Configuring Call Park and Retrieve – Park an active call – puts it on hold to a
specific location, so it can be retrieved by any phone. This feature requires call
server support.

Page 16
MOCET IP3072 Smart Office IP Desk Phone Administrators' Guide
Understanding the Call Timer – Maintains a timer, in hours, minutes, and
seconds, for each call in progress.
Using Call Transfer – Transfer a call in progress to some other destination.
Enabling Call Waiting Alerts – Visually presents an incoming call on the screen
when you are in another call.
Called Party Identification – Displays and logs the identity of the party in an
outgoing call.
Enabling Conference Management – Add, hold, mute, and remove conference
participants, and obtain information about participants.
Configuring Calling Party Identification – Displays a caller’s identity, derived from
the network signaling, when an incoming call is presented – if the information is
provided by the call server.
Connected Party Identification – Displays and logs the identity of the party to
whom you are connected to (if the name is provided by the call server).
Configuring Direct Call Pick-Up – Enables you to pick up calls to another phone
by dialing the extension of the other phone. This requires special call server to
cowork with IP3072.
Applying Distinctive Ringing – Enables you to select a ring tone for contacts in
the contact directory.
Configuring Do Not Disturb – Temporarily stops all incoming calls.
Configuring the Handset and Speakerphone.
