1. Safety Regulations
1.1. Correct Use
The Gallet F1 XF helmet - hereafter called helmet - is a safety helmet for the head intended for
firefighters operations, such as fire fighting in buildings and other structures, rescue
interventions and other typical tasks of fire brigades.
The helmet is designed for use with SCBA full face masks.
The helmet must be inspected and maintained by specially qualified and trained person.
The correct use of the helmet is described in the relevant operating manual of the helmet.
This Maintenance Specialist Manual is to be used in conjunction with the operating manuals of
the devices.
WARNING
This helmet is supporting life and health. Inappropriate use, maintenance or servicing may
affect the function of the device and thereby seriously compromise the user’s life.
Before use the helmet operability must be verified. The helmet must not be used if the function
test is unsuccessful, it is damaged, a competent servicing/maintenance has not been made,
genuine MSA spare parts have not been used.
It is imperative that this manual be read and observed when using the product. In particular, the
safety instructions, as well as the information for the use and operation of the product, must be
carefully read and observed. Furthermore, the national regulations applicable in the user's
country must be taken into account for a safe use.
Alternative use, or use outside this specification will be considered as non-compliance. This
also applies especially to unauthorised alterations to the product and to commissioning work
that has not been carried out by MSA or authorised persons.
1.2. Liability Information
MSA accepts no liability in cases where the product has been used inappropriately or not as
intended. The selection and use of the product are the exclusive responsibility of the individual
operator.
Product liability claims, warranties also as guarantees made by MSA with respect to the
product are voided, if it is not used, serviced or maintained in accordance with the instructions
in this manual.
2. Description
The helmet provides protection of head and face against shocks, sharp objects, splatters of
solid, liquid, corrosive, chemical products (sulfuric acid, sodium hydroxide, p-xylene, butan-1-ol,
n-heptane…), molten metals, radiating heat, flames, electric current.
In situations where the conditions exceed those described in the specifications mentioned
above, the protection of the user is not guaranteed.
The clear or gold coated face shield protects against various risks likely to arise during
firefighting interventions, ambulance and emergency services, except respiratory and smoke
and gas / vapour emission risks. The face shield resists the splatter of chemical products
identical to those of the helmet mentioned above.

3. Maintenance
3.1. Inspection, Conformity and Maintenance Individual Sheets
Some of the control and maintenance operations require in depth knowledge of the products.
CAUTION
MSA highly recommends that service / maintenance technicians are trained by an authorized
MSA partner or by local MSA affiliate to perform efficiently the inspection and parts
replacement processes.
Full inspection includes verification of individual components to verify their conformity.
This may require some disassembling processes if there is a need to verify a component which
is not directly visible (ex: verification of Impact Liner condition after a severe impact on the
shell).
CAUTION
Use only genuine MSA parts when replacing defective ones. Using non MSA parts will not only
void warranty on the helmet, but may reduce the protection level provided by the Gallet F1 XF
fire helmet.
Components that are particularly critical to safety of the product, such as suspension, shell and
impact liner, are marked with .
Treat such parts with special attention and care during inspection and assembly.
3.2. Recommended Service and Maintenance Schedule
Gallet F1 XF fire helmets are Category III Personal Protective Equipment according to the
European Directive 89/686/CE and 89/656/CE. Regular inspection and adapted maintenance
shall be performed to ensure the proper condition of the equipment for its intended use and
protection levels.
MSA recommends to fully inspect the helmet at least every 2 years, or more frequently if the
helmet is often exposed to extremely severe conditions. In cases where frequency of use is
very low and none of below mentioned exposures and damages is recorded, an inspection
should be performed at least every 4 years. Local regulations must apply.
Systematically perform a full inspection if the helmet is exposed to the following conditions:
Severe mechanical impact (falling objects, fall, compression, etc.)
Direct, severe exposure to flames and/or extreme heat
Direct, severe exposure to chemical products or molten metal
Any visible defect that may reduce protection level such as:
Parts that are melted, deformed, broken, missing or non-operational.
Significant scratches/ coating removal on shell or visors.
Torn straps or paddings.
“Cosmetic” defects (minor scratches, slight colour change, etc.) do not have any impact on
protection levels and do not require a complete inspection.

Maintenance

Gallet F1 XF
GB
3.3. Intervals
Daily Inspection
Before each use, inspect the helmet for visible damages such as:
Cracks, breakages, major plastic distorsion (bumps) on shell, visors and all solid elements.
Missing shell coating (paint, metal coating) on large surfaces.
Damaged straps or fabric elements (holes, torn areas, missing stitches, etc.).
Check proper operation of adjustment and safety elements such as the headband ratchet knob,
chinstrap buckle, straps adjusters, connection clips, etc.
CAUTION
In case of doubt, do not use the helmet and ask for a complete inspection or replacement of
the defective components.
Cleaning after Use
Cleaning the helmet helps extending its life time and improves hygienic conditions of use.
Clean the helmet after each use as dirt / fumes are easier to remove immediately than after a
long storage period (as they can migrate into the upper paint/varnish layer).
Helmet shell: clean with a soft cloth (to avoid scratches) and soapy water (do NOT use
solvent based products).
Face shield / Visor: clean with a soft cloth and soapy water. Solvent based products may
damage the coating and reduce visor performance.
Inner paddings: take them out of the helmet for easier cleaning.
Textile paddings: they can be machine washed (30 °C).
Leather paddings: clean with a soft cloth and soapy water.
Paddings: exchanged with new / clean ones.
3.4. Storage
NOTICE
Proper helmet storage eliminates risk of pollution created by the environment (vehicle fumes,
extended sun exposure, moisture, etc.).
After cleaning, inspect your helmet for visible damages before storing it. In case of doubt, do
not use the helmet and ask for a complete inspection or replacement of the defective
components.
Store the helmet in an area where it not exposed to the following hazards / elements:
Exhaust fumes.
High Temperature variation (i.e. beside a sun exposed window).
Store the helmet in a closed cabinet, and/or, if supplied with the helmet, in a carrying bag.
Let the textile helmet components (paddings, neck curtains) dry before putting the helmet in a
closed area / carrying bag.
Never hang / carry the helmet by the chinstrap.
