S - SPECIAL OR CRITICAL USER INSTRUCTIONS
1. This device does NOT supply oxygen, and must only be used in ade-
quately ventilated areas containing at least 19.5 percent oxygen.
2. This respirator must be used in conjunction with the proper chemical
or particulate canisters for protection against specific contaminants.

3. Do not use when concentrations of contaminants are unknown or
immediately dangerous to life or health (IDLH).
4. Leave area immediately if:
A. Breathing becomes difficult.
B. Dizziness or other distress occurs.
C. You taste or smell contaminant.
D. You experience eye, nose or throat irritation.
5. Use strictly in accordance with instructions, labels, and limitations
pertaining to this device.
6. This respirator may not provide a satisfactory seal with certain facial
characteristics, such as beards or large sideburns, that prevent direct
contact between the skin and the sealing surface of the face-piece. Do
not use this respirator if such conditions exist.
7. Never alter or modify this device.
. This respirator is for use by trained, qualified personnel only.
9. The respirator may not adequately protected against propelled or falling
objects. Consequently, in riot or similar situations, it is imperative that a
proper faceshield be worn in conjunction with the respirator for protec-
tion.
Failure to follow the above warnings can result in serious personal injury
or death.
RESPIRATOR USE LIMITATIONS

RESPIRATOR USE LIMITATIONS IN CBA (CHEMICAL - BIOLOGICAL
WARFARE AGENT) ATMOSPHERES:

In th v nt a maximum us conc ntration has not b n stablish d by th gov-
rning authority, it is recommended that th us of th r spirator should b lim-
it d to atmosph r s 100 tim s (or l ss) th d fin d p rmissibl Airborn
Exposur Limit (AEL) or Tim W ight d Av rag (TWA) of th contaminat
( xc pt for Mustard and L wisit . For th s ag nts, th r comm nd d us con-
c ntration is to b limit d to th AEL or TWA).
For uses in atmospheres containing chemical or biological warfare
agents, as with all hazardous atmospheres, it is recommended that a
complete respiratory and body protection program be developed and full
protective ensemble be utilized. This program should as a minimum
include the following items:
Before Entering a CBA Contaminated Area
1. All users should be trained (on a regular basis) in use of the protective
equipment, the hazard, the effects and physical signs of agent over-
exposure, governing protocols or regulations concerning the hazard
and user, medical needs, emergency and first aid procedures in case
of over-exposure, decontamination, and handling and disposal of con-
taminated equipment.
2. Each user should be quantitatively fit tested in the facepiece they will

be using and have a tested fit factor of 1000 or greater.
3. It is recommended that each user should be outfitted with a facepiece
with CBA canister, a hood, and full chemical protective suit including
gloves and shoe coverings.
4. The user should determine or check with the safety office to verify that
the protective equipment to be used is sufficient for exposure to their
particular hazard and contamination level. Mis-use of the protective
equipment can result in serious personal injury or death.
During the Stay in the CBA Contaminated Area
1. It is recommended that the area be real-time monitored (with alarm)
for exposure levels of the contaminate. If the monitored contaminate
level is above the allowable exposure limit or maximum use concen-
tration (as determined by the governing protocol), the user should
leave the area immediately.
2. The user should not remove any of the CWA protective clothing while
in the contaminated area. This action could result in a serious injury or
death.
3. If symptoms of CBA over-exposure are present, seek medical treat-
ment and attention immediately.
After Exposure to a CBA Contaminated Area
1. A decontamination procedure for the user and the protective equip-
ment should be developed and implemented.
2. Once the user leaves the contaminated area, he should enter the
decontaminated area and follow the set decon procedure. Failure to
follow an acceptable decon procedure could lead to serious injury or
death.
3. Once the user and the protective equipment have been decontaminat-
ed, proper disposal of affected equipment is to be performed. Disposal
is to be performed as required by federal, state and/or local laws that
apply to CBA contaminated materials.
Failure to follow accepted safety and protection procedures when
exposed to hazardous atmospheres can result in serious personal injury
or death.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
PRINCIPLE OF OPERATION:

a rosols including oil-bas d a rosols as list d on th canist r lab l. During
inhalation, air is drawn through th canist r r moving or n utralizing th cont-
aminants. Th inhalation valv s op n and th xhalation valv r mains clos d
to pr v nt contaminat d air from nt ring th fac pi c . During xhalation, th
xhalation valv s op n and th inhalation valv (s) clos to pr v nt xhal d air
from passing back through th canist r. Th xhalation valv p rmits xhal d
air to xit th gas mask.

RESPIRATOR FIT TEST
A qualitativ or quantitativ r spirator fit t st must b carri d out for ach w ar-

Respiratory Protection, ANSI Z88.2, which is publish d by th Am rican
National Standards Institut .
QUANTITATIVE TEST - If a Quantitativ Fit T stis us d, a fit factor that is at
l ast 1000 shall b obtain d b for that r spirator is assign d to an individual.
QUALITATIVE TEST - If a Qualitativ Fit T st is us d, only validat d protocols
ar acc ptabl . Th individual must pass a t st d sign d to ass ss a fit factor
of at l ast 1000.

The user must perform a respirator fit test and follow all warnings and lim-
itations specified. Failure to do so can result in serious personal injury or
death.

PREPARATIONS FOR USE

3. Inhalation and xhalation valv s: Ch ck for cracks, t ars, distortion, dirt or
build-up of mat rial b tw n valv and valv s at.

Attaching the Canister

DONNING THE RESPIRATOR
DONNING THE ADVANTAGE 1000 RESPIRATOR GASK MASK AND
ADVANTAGE 3200 WITH RUBBER HARNESS
1. Loos n th adjustabl harn ss straps. Grip th straps by ins rting thumbs
through th straps. Ins rt chin w ll into th low r part of fac pi c , th n
pull th harn ss back ov r h ad.
2. Pull th back of th harn ss downward toward th n ck until it is c nt r d
at th back of your h ad. If n c ssary, hold th compon nt housing of th
mask with on hand and position th harn ss with th oth r hand, until
obtaining a firm and comfortabl fit against th fac at all points.
3. Tight n th adjustabl straps so that th mask is snug against fac . Mak
sur th back of th harn ss is c nt r d on th back of th h ad. Th har-
n ss straps must b flat against th h ad.
4. If th mask do s not f l snug against fac , loos n th adjustabl straps
and r position th back of th harn ss. Mak sur that th back of th har-
n ss is position d on th back of th h ad. If th mask do s not b com
snug against th fac , r mov th mask and adjust th l ngth of th straps.
DONNING THE ADVANTAGE 3200 GAS MASK RESPIRATOR WITH PLAS-
TIC ADVANTAGE 3000 HARNESS

Donning Procedure A
1. Compl t ly loos n th two bottom straps. Spr ad th straps of th h ad
harn ss with both hands and plac chin into th mask. Pull harn ss ov r
h ad all th way, until plastic cradl li s flat on back of h ad.
2. Tight n n ck straps v nly so that th mask is snug against th fac .

3. If n c ssary, adjust th mask and tight n harn ss by pulling loop on th
back of harn ss.
Donning Procedure B
1. Compl t ly loos n th two bottom straps, ins rt fing rs and hold th loop

2. Plac chin into th mask.
3. Pull th harn ss ov r h ad with th loop, pull harn ss down to th back of
th h ad, until plastic cradl li s flat on back of h ad.

TEST FOR TIGHTNESS BEFORE EACH USE

lightly. G ntly xhal so that a slight positiv pr ssur builds up insid th r s-
pirator and hold your br ath. Th positiv pr ssur will r main whil th br ath
is h ld unl ss th r is a l ak in th s al.

Th r spirator will not furnish prot ction unl ss all inhal d air is drawn through
suitabl canist rs.
Do not enter any atmosphere with this respirator unless you know that:
1. You have read, understood and followed all instructions and warnings
pertaining to the respirator.
2. The respirator and conditions meet the requirements outlined.
3. The canister is the proper type for the contaminant or contaminants
present.
4. The amount of oxygen is sufficient to support life (that is, at least 19.5
percent oxygen by volume at sea level). Do not use if an oxygen con-
centration sufficient to support life is questionable.
5. Respirator does not leak (see Test for Tightness).
6. Canister does not need to be replaced. Discard exhausted canister.
Failure to follow the above warnings can result in serious personal injury
or death.

To remove the facepiece
1. Push th straps’ buckl s forward to loos n and fully xt nd th bottom
straps.
2. Ins rt thumbs und r th harn ss straps. Pull it up and away from fac .
CLEANING AND DISINFECTING
Th fac pi c ass mbly (with canist r r mov d) should b cl an d and disin-
f ct d aft r ach us . MSA r comm nds using Confid nc Plus™ Cl aning
Solution. R f r to th lab l of th cl aning solution for us instructions. A solu-
tion as ff ctiv as Confid nc Plus™ Cl aning Solution and compatibl with
MSA r spirator compon nts may b substitut d. Rins thoroughly in plain
warm wat r (110ºF to avoid possibl ov rh ating and distortion of parts) and
th n air dry. ANSI sugg sts that us rs should b train d in cl aning proc dur .
Alcohol should not be used as a germicide because it may deteriorate rub-
ber parts.
If not rinsed thoroughly, cleaning agent residue may irritate the wearer’s
skin.
Do not force-dry the parts by placing them in a heater or direct sunlight.
This will cause the rubber to deteriorate.
Cleaning and Disinfecting at or below 110°F temperature will avoid possi-
ble overheating and distortion of parts which would require replacement.
MAINTENANCE
