The Sonata-CAM adds 1 backup camera input to the factory media screen in the 2011+ Hyundai
Sonata. This kit is fully plug & play behind the factory monitor.

Sonata Radio Removal
1. Using a plastic pry tool, pry up the 2x vinyl trim panels on each side of the radio leading
down the center console.
2. Once removed, this will reveal a screw on either side just below the HVAC trim bezel
Remove these 2x screws.

WARNING! Before proceeding to the next steps, make certain the key is off and
out of the ignition. Failure to do this may trip and airbag light!
3. Using a plastic pry tool, pry on the upper trim along the outside edge of the shroud
containing the HVAC controls to release the clips. Disconnect all the wiring and remove
the airbag light button from the structure. Plug only the airbag light button back into
the wiring harness to avoid an airbag fault light.
4. With the upper trim removed locate the 4x 7mm/Phillips screws (two on each side of
the radio) that hold the radio in place. Remove the screws and pull the radio gently out
of the dash.
5. Disconnect all wiring and set the radio aside.

Sonata-CAM Installation
1. Connect the 24-pin radio power connector into the female side of
the provided Plug & Play T-Harness.
2. Connect the 18-pin radio harness connector into
the female side of the provided Plug & Play T-
Harness.
3. Connect the 18-pin plug (located in the middle of one of the
Plug & Play Harness’) to the Sonata-CAM module.
4. Connect your camera’s signal lead RCA to the RCA on the provided Plug & Play T-
Harness labeled ‘BACKUP CAMERA’.
5. Connect the white/red wire to a reverse trigger (12v +). This can be found at the reverse
light in the trunk lid, or in the driver’s kick panel, white 43-pin plug, pin 8 (blue) TEST!
6. Power your camera with a ground and accessory wire, not from the reverse light.
7. Connect the male ends of both provided Plug & Play T-Harnesses back to the radio,
reconnect all other harnesses and reinstall the radio into the sub-dash.
The Sonata-CAM will not function if the HVAC control face is disconnected, do not attempt
to test for proper operation until the dash is fully reassembled!
FAQs
Q: “I put the vehicle into reverse but it does nothing”
A1: Check to make sure that when the vehicle goes into reverse you have 12 volts + on
the wire you ran from the white/red wire on the SONATA-CAM module.
A2: Did you reassemble the HVAC panel fully? If not, no image will appear.
Q: “I put the vehicle into reverse but all I get is a black screen”
A: Either you have not connected power to the camera or the RCA from the SONATA-
CAM to the video RCA from the reverse camera. Check your power and ground connections to
the camera and make sure the video RCA is plugged in. If all tests are positive use another video
source to check to see if either your camera is bad or the RCA is bad or disconnected at the
front of the vehicle. If the screen goes only to a black screen the SONATA-CAM module is
functioning properly and you either have a bad camera, connections or RCA cable.

Q: “My image is grainy and has lines in it”
A: Poor power/ground is the leading cause of a bad image for reverse cameras. Check
power at the camera with a multi-meter to confirm you have a solid 12v supply and do not
connect camera power directly to the reverse light.
Q: “I start my car and put it into reverse but the reverse camera image is not immediately
available”
A: The vehicle has a “wake up” screen that lasts about 10 to 15 seconds. During that
period of time the Navigational unit is actually turning on. This is very similar to your home TV
set.
Until the Navigation unit is fully awake it cannot display any image.
Q: “I tried to install the unit this weekend and I stopped because I was scared I might damage
something”
