Remove Magazines
CAUTION: Keep loaded magazines level. Don’t hold a
magazine by the handle; support it with both hands.
NOTE: If unable to power up the library, refer to the ARCvault
48 User Guide on removing magazines manually.
1. Press Utilities > Service > Access All Mags > OK (at
the going offline message) > Unlock All.
2. Open the doors, remove all the magazines, and close
the doors.
3. Press Relock All,and then OK at the message.
4. Press Back three times.
5. Press Power > Power Off Library > OK (at the
power down message) to power down the unit.
Remove Unit from Rack
WARNING: It is recommended that a mechanical lifter
(or at least two people) be used to prevent injury during
rack installation or removal.
1. At the rear, remove the power cord and all cables.
2. At the front, loosen the retaining screws.
3. Using either a mechanical lifter or at least two people,
remove the ARCvault unit from the rack.
Remove Drive Assemblies
1. Loosen the two thumbscrews on the top drive cover.
2. Remove the drive cover (Figure 1) as follows:
a. Gently pull the drive cover out and hold it about
2 inches (5cm) below the drive bay.
b. Unplug the fan wiring from the fan connector.
c. For a SCSI drive assembly, using the guide handles,
pull the assembly out about 1 inch (2.5cm) and
unplug the SCSI cable from the drives.
d. Set the drive cover aside.
3. Unplug the drive power cables and position them off
to the right.
4. Disconnect the serial jumper cable from the serial
connector.
Leave the serial jumper cable attached to the drive
assembly and move the other cables off to the right.
5. Grasp the guide grips and slide the drive assembly
out of the unit.
6. If drives are installed in the bottom drive bay, repeat
Steps 1–5 for bottom drives.

Secure the Robotics
1. Open the left door.
2. Install the shuttle bracket:
a. Holding the shuttle bracket by the front lip
(Figure 2), slide it into the magazine bay.

b. Swing the rear of the bracket to the right until it
contacts the shuttle.
c. Press the front lip of the bracket down and to the
right until the screw holes align.
You should hear a click as the bracket slips into
place over the shuttle.
d. Install the screw that holds the shuttle bracket to
the bottom edge of the front panel.
3. Turn the unit onto its left side with the front bezel
off the table.
4. Install the shuttle bracket well nut:
a. With a washer on a screw, screw it onto a well nut
until only one-half inch (12.5cm) remains extended.
b. Repeat Step a for the other three well nuts.
c. While pressing the shuttle bracket down, visually
confirm the hole alignment from underneath.
d. Insert a well nut assembly (Figure 3) through the
three holes using the extended screw as a handle.
e. While continuing to hold the bracket against the
shuttle, tighten the screw into the well nut.

5. Insert the remaining three well nuts assemblies
using the extended screws, and tighten (Figure 4).

6. Carefully return the library to the upright position.
Repack the Chassis
Once the robotics are secure, repack the unit for shipment.
1. Open the top of the box and remove all the packaging
materials stored there.
2. With the ARCvault on a secure surface, slide it into the
ESD bag and seal with packing tape.
3. Using two people, lower the packaged ARCvault into
the box.
4. Insert the top packaging over the unit with the
smaller pieces at the rear.
5. Tape the box using the type of tape required by the
shipper for the shipping method being used.
