General Safety Instrucons
Intended Use
The electronics are a laboratory device as
dened by DIN EN 61010-1. They are intended
for indoor use and use in an environment which
is free of dirt, oil, and lubricants.
According to their design, the electronics are
intended for operang posioners from PI.
The electronics may only be used in compliance
with the technical specicaons and instruc-
ons in this user manual. The user is responsi-
ble for process validaon.
The electronics may not be used for purposes
other than those stated in the user manual. The
electronics may only be installed, operated,
maintained, and cleaned by authorized and
appropriately qualied personnel.
Installaon
Unsuitable cables can cause damage to the
electronics and can aect the performance of
the posioner.
XOnly use genuine PI parts for connecng
the posioner to the electronics.
XIf you need longer cables, use extension
cables from PI.
Startup
The collision of a moving part at the end of the
travel range, or with an obstacle, as well as high
acceleraons, can cause damage to or consi-
derable wear on the posioner.
XDo not deacvate the limit switch evalua-
on by the electronics.
XStop the axis in me.
XIf you use a system for closed-loop opera-
on: Avoid moon in open-loop operaon.
Unsuitable sengs can cause the posioner to
oscillate. Oscillaon can damage the posioner
and/or the load axed to it.
XIf the posioner is oscillang (unusual ope-
rang noise), immediately switch o the
servo mode or the electronics.
XChange the parameter sengs of the elec-
tronics (see manual).
XIf there is any oscillaon during the refe-
rence move, follow the instrucons under
„Troubleshoong“ in the manual.
Installaon
Installing the PC Soware
Installing the PC soware in Windows
1. Start the installaon wizard by double-cli-
cking the PI_<product number>.CD_Setup.
exe le in the installaon directory (root
directory of the CD).
The InstallShield Wizard window opens
so that programs and the manuals for the
electronics can be installed.
2. Follow the instrucons on the screen.
3. If necessary: Update the PC soware and
posioner database with the PI Update
Finder (see manual).

directory of the product CD to a directory
on your PC.
2. Change to the directory where the tar
archive was unpacked.
3. As superuser (root privileges), execute the
./INSTALL script to start the installaon.
4. Follow the instrucons on the screen.
5. If necessary: Update the PC soware and
posioner database (see manual).
Mounng the Electronics
NOTICE
High temperatures can cause the electro-
nics to overheat.
XSet up the electronics with a gap of
at least 10 cm to the top and rear
panels and at least 5 cm to the sides.
If this is not possible, make sure
that the surroundings are cooled
suciently.
XEnsure sucient venlaon at the
place of installaon.
XKeep the ambient temperature at a
noncrical level (5-40 °C).
