PMI FAST User manual

Instructions > PMI FAST
The PMI FAST pre-installed in your litter allows you to lash in
a patient in a fraction of the time it takes the traditional way.
Color coded shoulder and leg straps hold the patient securely,
while wide stirrups hold them toward the head. A quick secure
connection is also provided when a connection to a seat harness
is needed. Individual straps can be quickly repositioned in the
fi eld to accommodate patient injuries. Metal-on-metal buckles
mean a secure connection. You will be amazed at the speed and
functionality of the PMI FAST.

MAINTENANCE AND CARE
INSPECTION
Proper maintenance of the PMI FAST is essential to its performance
• System may be stored attached to the litter or loosely packed in a
container
• Store in a clean, dry environment
• Wet components should be thoroughly dried before storage
• As with all webbing products, avoid exposure to direct fl ame, high
temperature, chemicals or damaging substances
• PMI FAST Restraint may be hand washed in cool water. Use clear
water or a non-detergent cleanser, rinse thoroughly and dry
completely before storing.
Remove the PMI FAST Restraint from service and destroy it if it
does not pass inspection or if there is any doubt about it’s safety or
serviceability, or if:
• The unit or its components have sustained a signifi cant impact
• The load bearing components of the unit are damaged in any way
• The webbing shows excessive wear, is cut, is improperly rigged,
or is otherwise affected in a way that might affect function or
performance
• Buckles or attachment points do not function properly, or show
signs of excessive wear or damage that might affect function or
performance
• If the unit has been visibly damaged by heat, chemical or other
hazardous condition
• If the unit has been in use for 5 years, regardless of condition
Inspect the unit prior to each use, particularly noting the condition
of load bearing buckles and components. Inspection criteria
should be established by the user according to his needs, and must
consider at least the following hazards:
• Missing or torn components
• Improperly functioning buckles or attachment points
• Webbing and/or stitching that shows excessive wear
• Chemical damage or exposure
• Heat damage

ASSEMBLY
RIGGING
Each PMI FAST System comes with the following components:
1 - Orange patient attachment strap. (A, B)
2 - Green securing straps including 5 buckle straps (C, D, E)
2 - Yellow securing straps including 5 buckle straps (C, D, E)
1 - Blue securing strap (H)
1 - Red securing strap (H)
1 - Black foot loop system including 2 buckles (G, F)
Close-up of Correct Buckle Threading
One advantage of the PMI FAST System is that girth-hitched
attachment points can easily be relocated “up or down” one loop
of cord in the fi eld as needed to accommodate varying sizes of
patients or other special considerations.
• BEFORE putting the patient into the litter unsnap all the buckles and
arrange the straps as shown on the left.
• Position the patient as needed in the litter.
• Place the openings in the Foot Stirrups over each of the patient’s
feet so that the bottoms of the triangles are snug in the middle of
the patient’s feet. Then pull or loosen the tail of webbing to adjust
to the desired height.
• Bring the Blue and Red Straps over the patient’s shoulders and
across the chest to the opposite side hip so that they clip back into
the buckle on the same color strap. Adjust the tails of these straps
to provide the desired tension and fi t.
• Starting at the end nearest the patient’s feet, snap the male buckle
pieces into the corresponding female pieces on the Green and
Yellow Straps so that a criss-cross pattern is formed. Adjust the
tails of these straps to provide the desired tension and fi t.
• Use the Orange strap to connect the patient’s harness to the litter
with a carabiner or by threading the Orange strap through the
waist and leg loops of the patient’s harness.
• Tuck away all the extra length of straps (tails) to prevent possible
snagging.
