The sequence of installation and adjustment is in order, however, some sections will not apply. Review
this instruction manual and determine those sections that do apply. Be sure all doors swing freely and
clear all objects before attaching arms. Precaution must be taken with parallel arms and adjacent walls.

The KM Series 2000 operator has been carefully designed, built, and tested to provide years of service.
The life of this operator package is directly related to how carefully the installation is accomplished and
how accurately the instructions are followed. Installation of this operator package should be done by a
properly trained and knowledgeable installer with a knowledge of local code requirements and the require-
ments of ANSI 156.10 Standards for Power Operated Pedestrian Doors. The authorized service/
installation dealer must perform all measurements for forces, speeds, and times to insure proper and safe
operation.
KM Systems is not responsible for improperly adjusted or maintained automatic doors or activation/safety
systems and assumes no responsibility for damages caused by automatic door systems that have not
been properly installed, tested, and adjusted.

ELECTRICAL PREPARATION
Before preparing jambs, determine the method and requirements for the electrical wiring
involved and whether mats or other type of activation is used.
For mounting on-off-hold switch proceed to Operator Installation section.
CAUTION -Some local codes require on-off-hold open switches to be installed no higher
than 6’-6” above the floor. A suggested method of installation is to prepare a 1/2” dia. hole
as shown. To install, place switch through top hole (1-1/2” dia.). While holding lead wires,
lower switch to second hole (1/2” dia.) and fish out toggle end of switch.
Install tabbed legend washer with mounting nut and secure with self-tapping screw.
OWNER INFORMATION TO BE PROVIDED BY THE DISTRIBUTOR / INSTALLER
•After the installation instruct the owner on the safe operation of the door.
•Location and proper use of the power switches.
•Location of the main cutoff breaker.
•Necessary warnings not covered in general instructions.
•Owners Manual and Daily Safety Checklist.
•Phone number(s) for the local servicing dealer.
•What to do in the event that a dangerous situation should occur, and how to shut the doors
down and call for service.

Run flexible conduit or 3-wire cable down
side jamb, through cut-out. Trim sufficient
length of wire and insert into 90 degree con-
nector. Attach connector to bracket and se-
cure with lock nut. Trim wire to proper
length when wiring unit. Secure ground wire
to operator base or control.

BACK PLATE INSTALLATION
Before preparing jamb for back plate, determine the hand of the door. If door hand is LH Regular
or RH Parallel proceed as shown on next page. If the door hand is RH Regular or LH Parallel, re-
verse the back plate end to end so that it is opposite as shown. See Page 1 for Hand of Door
Identification.
MOUNTING BACK PLATE
Mount to prepared jamb using furnished flat head screws suitable for prepared holes.
Note: For swing clear hinges, place end of back plate 1 3/8” beyond the centerline of hinge pin or
order special length back plate and cover (See Installation of Cover and Back Plate of a different
length than door opening).

Mounting Regular Arm
1. Assemble the secondary sleeve onto rod end which is
attached to main arm, screw all the way in.
2. Place main arm on pinion shaft of operator indexing as
shown. Replace locking pinion nut, then tighten.
3. Mount shoe to door using furnished screws suitable for
prepared holes. Note: The keyed hole (with the flat
spot) must be down.
4. Determine depth of reveal. Using Table, cut secondary
rod to proper length, see example. Insert rod into sec-
ondary sleeve, bottom and finger tighten set screw
with 3/16” Allen wrench.
5. Slide rod end of secondary arm into shoe. Drop sex
bolt through hole in shoe and rod end, and align flats.
Insert screw into bottom of sex bolt, tighten.
Adjustment
With door against door stop and set screw in sleeve loos-
ened, rotate main arm 7° as shown. Tighten set screw.

Mounting Parallel Arm
1. Assemble secondary sleeve onto rod end which is attached
to main arm, screw all the way in.
2. To install main arm, pinion must be rotated. See page 13
for rotating operator pinion manually. Place arm on pinion
shaft of operator, indexing as shown. Replace locking pin-
ion nut, then tighten.
3. Mount door bracket to door using furnished screws suitable
to prepared holes. See table in “Door Preparation” (page
10) for proper door bracket.
4. Determine depth of reveal. Using table, cut secondary rod
to proper length, see example. Insert rod into secondary
sleeve, bottom and finger tighten set screw with 3/16” Allen
wrench.
5. Place rod end onto stud on door bracket, insert screw,
tighten.

MANUAL ROTATION OF OPERATOR PINION
Manual Rotation of Operator Pinion
PinionSweep Valve
1. Using the main arm or an open end wrench, rotate pinion of
operator approximately 1/4 turn, hold in that position.
2. Using a 3/16” narrow blade screwdriver, turn sweep valve
clockwise until it bottoms on the seat. DO NOT TIGHTEN
VALVE AGAINST SEAT.
3. Remove main arm or open end wrench and proceed to install
main arm.
4. After installation of arm to door, return sweep valve to approxi
mate original position. Final adjustment will be made in
“Adjustments and checkout procedures”

Mounting Parallel Arm
1. Assemble secondary sleeve onto rod end which
is attached to main arm, screw all the way in.
2. To install main arm, pinion must be rotated. See
page 12 for rotating operator pinion manually.
Place main arm on pinion shaft of operator, in-
dexing as shown. Replace locking pinion nut
and tighten.
3. Mount door bracket to panic breakaway using
1/4-20x5/8” round head machine screws. See
Table in “Door Preparation” for proper bracket.
4. Determine depth of reveal. Using table, cut sec-
ondary rod to proper length, see example. In-
sert rod into sleeve, bottom and finger tighten
set screw with 3/16” Allen wrench.
5. Place rod end onto stud on door bracket, insert
screw, tighten.
6. Mount Arm / door stop to back plate temporarily
using 1/4-20x1 3/4” round head screws.
Note: Stop Block is tapered to match contour of
main arm.
Adjustments
Loosen set screw, center door in frame with main
arm in contact with stop block, tighten set screw.
Main arm may require final adjustment after installa-
tion of cover. See page 15 for panic breakaway for
adjustment.

Panic Breakaway
Adjustment and Checkout
Tension Preset
The tension on the panic breakaway assy. has been pre-adjusted at the factory before shipment.
After the operation of the door has been checked out, the breakaway of the panic assembly must
be checked for operation and tension. The tension of breakaway must be tested and if necessary,
be reset to meet local codes.
To test
With a compression scale, press against the lock stile of the door 30” to 36” from the floor until the
door breaks into panic. Observe the point at which the breakaway occurs on the scale.
Adjustment Screw
Tension settings of the panic breakaway assembly varies in
accordance with local codes. Check local requirements.
Some recognized codes are as follows.
Underwriters Laboratory 50 lbs. max.
State of California 40 lbs. max.
New York State 20 lbs. max.
Pennsylvania State 50 lbs. max.
NFPA 50 lbs. max.

Mounting Slide Arm
1. Insert stud into drive roller, screw stud into threaded hole
in slide arm as shown on opposite side of the bend in the
arm. Stake with a center punch or use liquid thread
locker.
2. To install slide arm, rotate pinion. See page 12 for rotat-
ing pinion manually. Place slide arm on pinion shaft of
operator indexing as shown. Replace locking pinion nut
and tighten.
3. Slide track assy. onto drive roller. Mount track assy. to
door using furnished screws suitable for prepared holes.
Slide arm may need field alignment to relieve any
strain or excess rubbing of roller or arm on track.

SPEED AND PRESSURE ADJUSTMENT

Speed and Pressure
Important
Test all functions of the operator using operational switching devices such as sensors, press wall
switches, or mats and the On/Off/Hold Open switch. As the unit warms up to operating temperature,
operating speeds will increase; the speed must be set slower than normally desired.
Timing of Door Swing
The time of swing for an average size and weight door
(80 to 150 lbs.) from moment of start and until the door
reaches the back check position shall not be less than
1 1/2 seconds and it shall not be less than 1 3/4
seconds to full 90° opening. Doors larger and heavier
should be set to operate slower in opening and closing
cycles. 0 sec.

To adjust opening speed / pressure, remove hex cap nut with 1/2” box end wrench or socket. Turn
counterclockwise. Using 3/16” Allen wrench, turn Allen set screw clockwise to increase speed /
pressure. Turn counterclockwise to decrease speed / pressure.
Notes:
1. When making opening speed / pressure adjustment on operator, it is not necessary to replace
the hex cap nut after each adjustment attempt. After the proper speed has been achieved,
replace cap nut and tighten ( do not over tighten ). Be sure that the cap nut does not bottom
out on the adjustment screw.
2. If it was necessary to increase the speed / pressure, make sure that the unit is not over adjusted
and overloads the motor. To check for overloading, block or hold the door in a half open position
(approx. 45°), with the operator turned on. If the motor lopes, jerks, or growls, the pressure has
been raised too high. Decrease the speed / pressure until the motor runs smoothly.
3. If it was necessary to increase the pressure to obtain the desired door speed, be sure the door is
not dragging or binding on the butts or pivots. Recheck these points.

Limit Switch Adjustment and Checkout
Function of Limit Switch
The operation of the motor is to open the door, not to hold it open. The limit switch is used to shut
off the motor after opening the door through the back check zone, thus allowing the door energy to
be quenched before the 90° stop position. The actual point of shutoff will vary depending on the
weight of the door and the degree of back check.

Adjustment
To adjust, turn the adjustment screw on the limit switch counterclockwise to decrease motor run
time, clockwise to increase motor run time. It may be necessary to adjust the back check and
pressure when adjusting the limit switch.
Note:
Cam follower and limit switch must have free movement before accurate adjustment can be
attained. Also, with the door opened to a full 90° and motor off, the main and secondary arms
should form a slight dog leg. If there is no dog leg in the arms, readjust the secondary arm.
Caution: With an improper adjustment of the limit switch and an overrun of the motor, the piston
of the operator may travel too far to the end of the cylinder and bottom out. This condition may
cause too much pressure against the solenoid valve. Should the door not close, the solenoid
valve is locked. Caution -Do not force the door closed. Should the solenoid lock, do the fol-
lowing. Support the body of the solenoid valve and turn the 3/4” brass plug at bottom of valve and
turn counterclockwise not more than 1 1/2 turns. This will permit the pressure in the valve to drop
sufficiently to let the door close. Retighten.
After the door is closed, readjust the limit switch turning the screw counterclockwise to turn the
motor off sooner. Also the pressure must be readjusted by turning the adjustment screw counter-
clockwise to reduce the pressure.
Note: For older units with the Brunswick valve, there is a set screw located under the brass body
of the valve. To release the pressure, turn the screw counterclockwise, but do not remove.
