General Safety Rules
WARNING

The term "power tool" in the warnings refers to
your mains-operated (corded) power tool or
battery-operated (cordless) power tool.
Work Area Safety
•Keep your work area clean and well lit.
Cluttered or dark areas invite accidents.
•Do not operate power tools in explo-
sive atmospheres, such as in the pres-
ence of flammable liquids, gases, or
dust. Power tools create sparks which
may ignite the dust or fumes.
•Keep children and by-standers away
while operating a power tool. Distrac-
tions can cause you to lose control.
Electrical Safety
•Power tool plug must match the out-

let. Never modify the plug in any way.
Do not use any adapter plugs with
earthed (grounded) power tools. Un-
modified plugs and matching outlets will
reduce the risk of electric shock.
•Avoid body contact with earthed or
grounded surfaces such as pipes, radi-
ators, ranges and refrigerators. There is
an increased risk of electrical shock if your
body is earthed or grounded.
•Do not expose power tools to rain or
wet conditions. Water entering a power
tool will increase the risk of electrical shock.
•Do not abuse the cord. Never use the
cord for carrying, pulling, or unplug-
ging the power tool. Keep cord away
from heat, oil, sharp edges or moving
parts. Damaged or entangled cords in-
crease the risk of electrical shock.
•When operating a power tool outdoors,
use an extension cord suitable for out-
door use. Use of a cord suitable for out-
door use reduces the risk of electric shock.
•If operating a power tool in a damp lo-
cation is unavoidable, use a ground
fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) protected
supply. Use of a GFCI reduces the risk of
electrical shock.

communicate important safety information. This section is provided to improve under-

This is the safety alert symbol. It is used to alert you to potential personal injury hazards. Obey

Personal Safety
•Stay alert, watch what you are doing
and use common sense when operating
a power tool. Do not use a power tool
while you are tired or under the influ-
ence of drugs, alcohol, or medication. A
moment of inattention while operating power
tools may result in serious personal injury.
•Use personal protective equipment.
Always wear eye protection. Protective
equipment such as dust mask, non-skid
safety shoes, hard hat, or hearing protec-
tion used for appropriate conditions will
reduce personal injuries.
•Prevent unintentional starting. Ensure
the switch is in the off-position before
connecting to power source and/or bat-
tery pack, picking up or carrying the
tool. Carrying power tools with your finger
on the switch or energizing power tools
that have the switch on invites accidents.
•Do not overreach. Keep proper footing
and balance at all times. This enables
better control of the power tool in unex-
pected situations.
•Dress properly. Do not wear loose cloth-
ing or jewelry. Keep your hair, clothing,
and gloves away from moving parts.
Loose clothes, jewelry, or long hair can
be caught in moving parts.
Power Tool Use and Care
•Do not force power tool. Use the correct
power tool for your application. The cor-
rect power tool will do the job better and
safer at the rate for which it is designed.
•Do not use the power tool if the switch
does not turn it ON and OFF. Any power
tool that cannot be controlled with the
switch is dangerous and must be repaired.
•Disconnect the plug from the power
source and/or the battery pack from
the power tool before making any ad-
justments, changing accessories, or
storing power tools. Such preventive
safety measures reduce the risk of starting
the power tool accidentally.
•Store idle power tools out of the reach
of children and do not allow persons
unfamiliar with the power tool or these
instructions to operate the power tool.
Power tools are dangerous in the hands
of untrained users.
•Maintain power tools. Check for mis-
alignment or binding of moving parts,
breakage of parts and any other condi-
tion that may affect the power tool’s op-
eration. If damaged, have the power tool
repaired before use. Many accidents are
caused by poorly maintained power tools.
•Keep cutting tools sharp and clean.
Properly maintained cutting tools with
sharp cutting edges are less likely to bind
and are easier to control.
•Use the power tool, accessories and
tool bits etc. in accordance with these
instructions, taking into account the
working conditions and the work to be
performed. Use of the power tool for oper-
ations different from those intended could
result in a hazardous situation.
Battery Tool Use and Care
•Recharge only with the charger speci-
fied by the manufacturer. A charger that
is suitable for one type of battery pack
may create a risk of fire when used with
another battery pack.
•Use power tools only with specifically
designated battery packs. Use of any
other battery packs may create a risk of in-
jury and fire.
•When battery pack is not in use, keep it
away from other metal objects, like
paper clips, coins, keys, nails, screws or
other small metal objects, that can
make a connection from one terminal to
another. Shorting the battery terminals to-
gether may cause burns or a fire.
•Under abusive conditions, liquid may be
ejected from the battery; avoid contact.
If contact accidentally occurs, flush
with water. If liquid contacts eyes, addi-
tionally seek medical help. Liquid ejected
from the battery may cause irritation or
burns.
Service
•Have your power tool serviced by a
qualified repair person using only iden-
tical replacement parts. This will ensure
that the safety of the power tool is main-
tained.

A manual holder is supplied in the carry case
of the TC-40 Cutter to keep this manual with
the tool for use by the operator.
Cutter Safety
•Keep fingers and other body parts away
from the blade. The blade is sharp and
can cause cutting and crushing injuries.
•Always wear safety glasses. Cutting cold
pipe, thin walled pipe or short sections of
pipe can cause the pipe to shatter. Sec-
tions of pipe can be ejected when cut.
•Do not cut gas piping, electrical wires,
or pipe with any contents. Cutting these
can cause explosions, electrical shock and
other serious injury.
•Only use cutter to cut pipes of recom-
mended types and sizes according to
these instructions. Other uses or modify-
ing the cutter for other applications may in-
crease the risk of injury.
•Always store the cutter with the blade in
the closed position. The blade is sharp
and can cause cutting injuries.
Battery/Charger Safety
•Do not probe battery charger or bat-
tery with conductive objects. Shorting of
terminals may cause sparks, burns or elec-
trical shock.
•Do not use damaged batteries or charg-
er. This increases the risk of electrical
shock.
•Do not disassemble batteries or charg-
er. There are no user serviceable parts.
Disassembly may cause electrical shock.
•Use and store batteries and chargers
in dry, appropriate temperature areas.
Extreme temperatures and moisture can

damage batteries and result in leakage,
electrical shock, fire or burns.
•Do not cover charger while in use. Pro-
per ventilation is required for correct oper-
ation. Covering charger in use could result
in fire.
•Properly dispose of batteries. High tem-
peratures can cause batteries to burst. Do
not burn. Some countries have regula-
tions about battery disposal. Follow all ap-
plicable regulations.

Standard Equipment
Description
The TC-40 Cutter is designed to cut plastic
pipes and multi-layer pipes up to 11/4" diame-
ter nominally (1.66" or 42 mm actual diameter).
A 12V Li-Ion battery powers an electric motor
which in turn drives the blade for cutting. Cuts
can be made in approximately 5 seconds.
The blade can be retracted both with the
Reverse Switch and with the Blade Release
Button. A Work Light is provided to supply
light in the cutting area. The cutting blade
can be quickly changed without tools.
The RIDGID Battery Charger (Catalog Num-
bers 36548 EUROPE and 36558 U.S.),
when used with appropriate battery packs
(batteries) listed in the
Accessories Section ,
is designed to charge an 12V 1.3 Ah Lithium-
Ion RIDGID battery in approximately three
hours. This charger requires no adjustments.

Pre-Operation Inspection
WARNING
Before each use, inspect your TC-40 Cut-
ter, battery and charger and correct any
problems to reduce the risk of serious
injury from electrical shock or other
causes and prevent equipment damage.
Blade is sharp. Handle with care to pre-
vent cuts.
1. Confirm that the battery pack is removed
from the TC-40 Cutter and the charger is
unplugged from the battery and outlet.
To remove battery pack from the TC-40
Cutter, with dry hands, squeeze the re-
lease button and pull the battery pack out
of the tool handle
(see Figure 3) .

3. Clean any dirt, oil or other contamina-
tion from the cutter, battery pack and
charger to aid in inspection and to help
prevent the cutter from slipping from your
grip in use.
4. Inspect the cutter, battery pack and
charger for any broken, worn, missing,
mis-aligned or binding parts or any condi-
tion which may prevent safe and normal
operation.
• Confirm that the forward and reverse
switch moves freely and does not bind
or stick.
• Confirm that the pipe indicator switch
moves freely and does not stick or bind.
The indicator should extend approxi-
mately 1/8" (3.2mm) above the pipe cra-
dle and should be flush to the pipe cra-
dle when depressed. Make sure no de-
bris that could jam the pipe indicator
switch is present.

• Inspect the tool and battery pack for
presence and readability of the warning
labels
(see Figures 5 & 6 for locations
of the labels).
• Inspect blade for damage. See Mainten-
ance Instructions.

If any problems are found, do not use the
equipment until the problems have been
corrected.
5. Following the Set Up and Operation
Instructions, with dry hands insert a fully
charged battery pack into the TC-40
Cutter. With no pipe in the cradle and
free hand away from the blade, depress
the FORWARD Switch to confirm that
the tool does not operate. With an ap-
propriate piece of pipe, make a test cut to
confirm proper operation per the operation
instructions.
6. With dry hands, remove the battery pack
from the tool.
Battery Charger Set Up and
Use
WARNING
Set up Battery Charger according to
these procedures to reduce the risk of in-
jury from electric shock, fire and other
causes, and prevent tool damage.
The battery pack is delivered with a partial
charge. Fully charge the battery pack before
use. New battery packs reach their full capac-
ity after approximately five charge/discharge
cycles.
1. Select an appropriate location for the
charger before use. Check work area for :
• Flammable liquids, vapors or dust that
may ignite. If present do not work in
area until sources have been identified

and corrected. Battery charger is not
explosion proof.
• Clear, level, stable dry place for charger
and battery pack. Do not use charger in
damp or wet areas.
• Proper operating temperature range.
32°F – 104°F (0°C – 40°C). Tempera-
tures in excess of 122°F (50°C) will re-
duce battery performance. Avoid ex-
tended exposure to heat or sunlight.
• Appropriate power source. Check to
see that the plug fits correctly into the
outlet.
• Sufficient ventilation.
2. Make sure that the battery pack and
charger have been properly inspected.
3. With dry hands, plug the charger into the
power source and plug the barrel plug
from the charger into the port on the bat-
tery pack. The battery pack will start
charging automatically. A red indicator
light will turn ON.
Only use RIDGID charger Catalog num-
ber 36558 or 36548 to charge RIDGID
Battery Catalog number 36563 or Catalog
number 36553.
4. When the battery pack is fully charged
the red light will turn green. Once the
battery pack is charged it can remain
connected to the charger until ready to be
used.
5. When ready to use the battery pack, with
dry hands, remove charger plug from the
battery pack and unplug the charger from
the outlet.
Tool Set Up and
Operation
WARNING
Set up and operate the TC-40 Cutter ac-
cording to these procedures to reduce
the risk of injury from electric shock,
fire, cutting, crushing and other causes,
and prevent tool damage.
Keep fingers and other body parts away
from the blade. The blade is sharp and
can cause cutting and crushing injuries.
Always wear eye protection to protect
your eyes against dirt and other foreign
objects.
1. Check work area for:
• Adequate lighting.
• Flammable liquids, vapors or dust that
may ignite. If present do not work in
area until sources have been identified
and corrected. TC-40 Cutter is not ex-
plosion proof.
• Clear, level, stable, dry place for opera-
tor. Do not use the TC-40 Cutter while
standing in water.
2. Inspect the pipe/tube to be cut and make
sure that the TC-40 Cutter is the appropri-
ate tool for the job. Do not cut pressurized
pipe or pipe with any contents such as
water, gas or wires. Do not cut metallic
pipe or tube, except as indicated in the
specifications. Cutting these can cause
explosions, electrical shock and other
serious injury and can damage the cutter.

3. Make sure that the TC-40 Cutter and bat-
tery pack have been properly inspected.
4. If needed, install the multi-layer pipe sup-
port adapter by sliding it over the tool
pipe cradle. The adapter must be firmly
seated on the tool cradle. Re-inspect the
pipe indicator switch for proper function
according to the Pre-Operation Inspection
section. The pipe indicator switch must
work properly.

5. If the PVC pipe is cold (less than 50°F
(10°C), it may need to be warmed up

prior to cutting. Cold PVC pipe can shat-
ter during cutting.
6. With dry hands, insert a fully charged
battery pack into the handle of the TC-40
Cutter. Battery charge can be checked by
pressing the Battery Level Indicator
Button on the rear of the TC-40 Cutter.

7. If needed, mark the pipe at the point to be
cut. Wipe any dirt or debris from the area
to be cut. This will help to extend blade
life. Cutting close to the pipe end (less
than one pipe diameter) may cause crook-
ed cuts, pipe deformation or breakage.
8. If desired, turn the TC-40 Cutter Work
Light on. The work light helps illuminate
the cut area and is controlled by the Work
Light Switch .

9. Grip the TC-40 Cutter in one hand and in
the other hand, grip the pipe to be cut at
least 6 inches (15cm) from the cut loca-
tion. Keep hands away from the blade.
Do not cut short sections of pipe less
than one pipe diameter.
10. Place the pipe squarely in the pipe cradle
with the blade aligned with the cut loca-
tion. The pipe should press the pipe indi-
cator switch. Do not try to make a cut in a
section of pipe less than 8" (20cm) long.

11. Press the FORWARD Switch until the
cut is complete. The cutter will make a
clicking sound at the end of travel. Re-
lease the FORWARD switch.
12. Fully retract the blade. This can be done
by either
• Pressing the Reverse Switch .
• Pressing the Blade Release Button .

13. When the TC-40 Cutter is not in use, al-
ways leave the blade in the closed posi-
tion. If the blade is open, press the Blade
Release Switch and then push the blunt
back edge of the blade to the fully closed
position. Do not try to close the blade
under power by pressing the pipe indica-
tor switch.

forming maintenance or making any ad-
justments.
Follow Maintenance instructions to re-
duce the risk of injury from electrical
shock and cut injuries.
Blade is sharp. Handle with care to pre-
vent cuts.
Cleaning
Wipe the tool, battery and charger clean daily
with a clean, dry cloth. Do not use any water
or solvents for cleaning as they can damage
the tool and increase the risk of electrical
shock.
Blade Changeout
Replace the blade when it becomes dam-
aged or dull. Damaged blades have nicks,
chips, deformation or other damage. A dull
blade is indicated by the tool laboring while
cutting, excessive time to cut, and poor cut
quality. Always change blade pin at the same
time blade is changed.
1. Confirm that the battery has been re-
moved from the cutter.
2. Fully retract the blade by pressing the
Blade Release Switch.
3. Position the cutter up or on its side when
removing the blade.
4. Press the end of the blade pin to raise the
head out of the slot and remove the pin.
5. Grasp the back of the blade and moving
along the line of the arrows on the cutter
housing, remove the blade.

6. Wipe a small amount of grease on teeth
at the back of the blade.

7. Grasp the back of the new blade and
move along the lines of the arrows on the
cutter housing, place into the housing so
that the hole in the blade aligns with the
blade pin hole in the housing.
8. Fully insert the new blade pin into the
blade pin hole.

RIDGID TC-40 Cutter. To prevent serious
injury, use only accessories specifically
designed and recommended for use
with the RIDGID TC-40 Cutter, such as
those listed below. Charger and batter-
ies are not compatible with any other
models of RIDGID Li-Ion batteries or
chargers.

Storage
WARNING
Remove battery pack from tool and store
in carry case. Store the TC-40 Cutter in a
dry secure area that is out of the reach of
children and peoples unfamiliar with it’s
use. The tool is dangerous in the hands
of untrained users. Store the TC-40 Cutter
with the blade in the fully closed position.
The battery packs and charger should be
protected against hard impacts, moisture and
humidity, dust and dirt, extreme high and low
temperatures, and chemical solutions and
vapors.

Seal on the battery packs
means that RIDGID has al-
ready paid the cost of recycling
the lithium-ion battery packs once they have
reached the end of their useful life.
RBRC™, RIDGID®, and other battery suppli-
ers have developed programs in the USA
and Canada to collect and recycle recharge-
able batteries. Normal and rechargeable bat-
teries contain materials that should not be
directly disposed of in nature, and contain
valuable materials that can be recycled. Help
to protect the environment and conserve nat-
ural resources by returning your used batter-
ies to your local retailer or an authorized
RIDGID service center for recycling. Your
local recycling center can also provide you
with additional drop-off locations.

packs/batteries must be recycled according
to the guideline 2006/66/EEC.
Machine Disposal
Parts of the TC-40 Cutter contain valuable
materials and can be recycled. There are
companies that specialize in recycling that
may be found locally. Dispose of the com-
ponents in compliance with all applicable reg-
ulations. Contact your local waste manage-
ment authority for more information.

household waste!

line 2002/96/EC for Waste Elec-

Long term storage in temperatures
above 104°F (40°C) can permanently reduce
the capacity of the battery pack.
Battery Transport
The battery is tested according to UN docu-
ment ST/SG/AC.10/11/Rev/3 Part III, subsec-
tion 38.3. It has effective protection against in-
ternal overpressure and short circuiting as
well as devices for the prevention of violent
rupture and dangerous reverse current flow.
The lithium-equivalent content in the battery is
below applicable limit values. Therefore, the
battery is not subject to national or interna-
tional regulations pertaining to dangerous
mediums, neither as an individual compo-
nent nor when inserted into a machine.
However, the regulations governing danger-
ous goods may be relevant when transporting
several batteries. In this case, it may be nec-
essary to comply with special conditions (e.g.,
concerning the packaging).

Improper service or repair can make
equipment unsafe to operate.
The “Maintenance Instructions” will take care
of most of the service needs of this ma-
chine. Any problems not addressed by this
section should only be handled by an author-
ized RIDGID service technician.

La concentration équivalente de lithium du
bloc-piles est inférieure aux limites applicables.
Donc, le bloc-piles n’est soumis à aucune ré-
glementation nationale ou internationale visant
les milieux dangereux, que ce soit à titre indi-
viduel ou installé dans un appareil. Cepen-
dant, il est possible que la réglementation
visant le transport des produits dangereux
soit d’application dans le cas du transport si-
multané de plusieurs bloc-piles. Le cas éché-
ant, des mesures spéciales, notamment en ce
qui concerne leur emballage, pourront être
imposées.

TC-40 dépend d’un entretien approprié.

Le terme « appareil » utilisé dans les aver-
tissements comprend à la fois les appareils
électriques sur secteur et à piles.
Sécurité des lieux
•Assurez-vous de la propreté et du bon
éclairage des lieux. Les zones encom-
brées ou mal éclairées sont une invitation
aux accidents.
•N’utilisez pas d’appareils électriques
en présence de matières explosives
telles que liquides, gaz ou poussières
combustibles. Les appareils électriques
produisent des étincelles susceptibles
d’enflammer les poussières et émana-
tions combustibles.
•Eloignez les enfants et les curieux lors
de l’utilisation d’un appareil électrique.
Les distractions risquent de vous faire per-
dre le contrôle de l’appareil.
Sécurité électrique
•La fiche du cordon d’alimentation de
l’appareil doit être compatible avec la
prise de courant utilisée. Ne jamais ten-
ter de modifier la fiche d’une manière
quelconque. Ne jamais utiliser d’adap-
tateurs sur les appareils à prise de
terre. Des fiches non modifiées branchées
sur des prises adaptées limiteront les
risques de choc électrique.
•Evitez tout contact physique avec les
objets reliés à la terre tels que canalisa-
tions, radiateurs, cuisinières et réfrigéra-
teurs. Tout contact avec la terre aug-
menterait les risques de choc électrique.
•N’exposez pas l’appareil à la pluie ou
aux intempéries. Toute pénétration d’eau
à l’intérieur d’un appareil électrique aug-
menterait les risques de choc électrique.
•Ne maltraitez pas le cordon d’alimenta-
tion de l’appareil. Ne jamais utiliser le
cordon pour transporter, tirer ou dé-
brancher l’appareil. Éloignez le cordon
des sources de chaleur, des matières
huileuses, des objets tranchants et des

d’alimentation endommagés ou entortillés
augmenteraient les risques de choc élec-
trique.
•Lors de l’utilisation d’un appareil élec-
trique à l’extérieur, prévoyez une ral-
longe électrique homologuée pour cet
usage. L’utilisation d’une rallonge homo-
loguée pour une utilisation à l’extérieur lim-
itera les risques de choc électrique.
•Lorsqu’il est inévitable de travailler dans
des endroits mouillés, utilisez une
source d’alimentation protégée par dis-
joncteur différentiel (GFCI). La présence
d’un disjoncteur différentiel limite les risques
de choc électrique.
Sécurité individuelle
•Soyez attentif, faites attention à ce que
vous faites et faites preuve de bon sens.
N’utilisez pas d’appareil électrique lorsque
vous êtes sous l’influence de drogues, de
l’alcool ou de médicaments. Lors de l’utili-
sation d’un appareil électrique, un instant
d’inattention risque d’entraîner de graves lé-
sions corporelles.
•Prévoyez les équipements de protec-
tion individuelle nécessaires. Portez
systématiquement une protection oculaire.
Le port d’un masque à poussière, de
chaussures de sécurité antidérapantes,
d’un casque de chantier ou de protecteurs
d’oreilles s’impose lorsque les conditions
l’exigent.
•Evitez les démarrages accidentels. S’as-
surer que l’interrupteur est en position
arrêt avant de brancher l’appareil, d’y
introduire son bloc-piles ou de le trans-
porter. Transporter un appareil électrique
avec son doigt sur la gâchette ou le bran-
cher lorsque l’interrupteur marche/arrêt se
trouve en position marche serait inviter les
accidents.
•Ne vous mettez pas en porte-à-faux.
Maintenez une bonne position de travail
et un bon équilibre à tout moment. Cela
vous permettra de mieux contrôler l’ap-
pareil en cas d’imprévu.
•Habillez-vous de manière appropriée.
Ne portez ni vêtements flottants, ni bi-
joux. Eloignez vos cheveux, vos vête-
ments et vos gants des mécanismes
de l’appareil. Les vêtements flottants, les
bijoux et les cheveux longs risquent d’être
entraînés par le mécanisme.
Utilisation et entretien des
appareils électriques
•Ne forcez pas l’appareil. Prévoyez un
appareil adapté aux travaux envisagés.
L’appareil approprié fera le travail plus effi-
cacement et avec un plus grand niveau
de sécurité lorsqu’il tourne au régime prévu.
•N’utilisez pas d’appareil électrique dont
l’interrupteur marche/arrêt ne fonctionne
pas correctement. Tout appareil électrique
qui ne peut pas être contrôlé par son inter-
rupteur est dangereux et doit être réparé.
•Débranchez l’appareil et/ou retirez son
bloc-piles avant de le régler, de changer
ses accessoires ou de le ranger. De tel-
les mesures préventives limiteront les
risques de blessure.
•Rangez tout appareil non utilisé hors
de la portée des enfants et des indivi-
dus qui n’ont pas été familiarisés avec
ce type de matériel ou son mode d’em-
ploi. Les appareils électriques peuvent de-
venir dangereux s’ils tombent entre les
mains d’utilisateurs non initiés.
•Veillez à l’entretien de l’appareil. Exam-
inez-le pour signes de désalignement,
de grippage, d’absence ou de bris de
ces composants, et de toute autre
anomalie qui risquerait de nuire à son
bon fonctionnement. Le cas échéant,
faire réparer l’appareil avant de l’utiliser.
De nombreux accidents sont provoqués
par des appareils mal entretenus.
•Maintenez les outils de coupe dans un
bon état d’affûtage et de propreté. Des
outils de coupe bien entretenus et cor-
rectement affûtés seront moins susceptibles
de se gripper et plus faciles à contrôler.
•Servez-vous de l’appareil et de ses ac-
cessoires selon les consignes ci-pré-
sentes en tenant compte des conditions
de travail et des travaux envisagés. L’utili-
sation de ce matériel à des fins autres que
celles prévues pourrait s’avérer dangereux.
Utilisation et entretien des
appareils à piles
•Utilisez exclusivement le chargeur prévu
par le fabricant pour recharger les bloc-
piles. L’emploi d’un chargeur prévu pour
d’autres types de piles augmenterait les
risques d’incendie.
•N’utilisez que le modèle de bloc-piles
spécifiquement désigné pour cet ap-

pareil. L’emploi de tout autre type de bloc-
piles augmenterait les risques de blessure
et d’incendie.
•Lorsqu’il ne sert pas, éloignez-le de tout
objet métallique (trombones, pièces de
monnaie, clés, clous, vis et autres) qui
serait susceptible de ponter les deux
bornes du bloc-piles. Un court-circuit
entre les deux bornes du bloc-piles pourrait
provoquer des brûlures ou un incendie.
•En cas de suintement de l’électrolyte
du bloc-piles suite à un traitement abu-
sif, évitez tout contact celui-ci. En cas de
contact cutané, rincez la peau à l’eau
courante. En cas de contact oculaire,
faites de même, puis consultez un méd-
ecin. Ce type d’électrolyte est susceptible
de provoquer des irritations et des brûlures.
Révisions
•Confiez les révisions de votre matériel a
un réparateur qualifié utilisant exclu-
sivement des pièces de rechange iden-
tiques à celles d’origine. Cela assurera la
sécurité intrinsèque du matériel.

CONSERVEZ CES INSTRUCTIONS !
La mallette de transport du coupe-tubes TC-
40 est équipé d’un porte document destiné à
garder le présent manuel à portée de main
de l’utilisateur.
Sécurité du coupe-tubes
•Eloignez vos doigts et autres membres
de la lame. La lame est tranchante et
risque de provoquer des coupures ou
autres lésions.
•Portez systématiquement des lunettes
de sécurité. La coupe des tuyaux froids, à
parois minces ou de courte longueur aug-
mente les risques d’éclatement du tuyau.
Des copeaux de tuyau risquent d’être pro-
jetés en cours de coupe.
•Ne jamais couper de tuyaux de gaz, de
câbles électriques ou de tuyaux con-
tenant une matière quelconque. Cela
risquerait de provoquer une explosion, un
choc électrique ou d’autres lésions graves.
•N’utilisez ce coupe-tubes que pour la
coupe des types et diamètres de tuyau
précisés dans le présent manuel. Toute
autre utilisation ou modification du coupe-
tubes pourrait augmenter les risques de
blessure.
•Toujours ranger le coupe-tubes avec
sa lame fermée. La lame est tranchante et
susceptible de vous couper.
Sécurité des piles et du
chargeur
•Ne jamais introduire d’objet conducteur
d’électricité dans le chargeur ou le bloc-
piles. Un court-circuit entre les bornes
pourrait provoquer des étincelles, des
brûlures ou des chocs électriques.
•Ne jamais utiliser un bloc-piles ou un
chargeur endommagé. Cela augment-
erait les risques de choc électrique.
•Ne jamais démonter le bloc-piles ou le
chargeur. Aucun des deux n’est réparable,
et leur démontage pourrait entraîner des
chocs électriques.
•Utilisez et stockez les piles et le char-
geur dans un endroit sec et à tempéra-
ture appropriée. Les températures et taux
d’humidité extrêmes peuvent endommager
les piles et provoquer leur fuite, des chocs
électriques, des incendies ou des brûlures.
•Ne jamais recouvrir un chargeur en
cours d’utilisation. Le bon fonctionne-
ment du chargeur dépend d’une ventilation
adéquate. Le recouvrir pourrait entraîner
un incendie.
•Recyclez les piles de manière appro-
priée. Une température élevée risque de
provoquer l’explosion des piles. Ne jamais
incinérer. Certains pays disposent d’une ré-
glementation visant le recyclage des piles.

Description, caractéris-

Description
Le coupe-tubes TC-40 est prévu pour la coupe
des tuyaux en matière plastique à paroi simple
ou multiple d’un diamètre nominal maximal
de 11/4", soit de 1,66" ou 42 mm de diamètre
extérieur réel. Son moteur électrique, entraîné
par un bloc-piles Li-Ion de 12V, entraîne à
son tour la lame de coupe. Le cycle de coupe
dure environ 5 secondes.
La lame peut être rétractée soit à l’aide de l’in-
terrupteur de marche arrière, soit à l’aide du
bouton de déverrouillage de lame. L’appareil
est équipé d’une lampe qui permet d’éclaire la
zone de coupe. La lame peut être remplacée
rapidement et sans outils.
Le chargeur RIDGID (référence 36548 en
Europe et 36558 aux USA), utilisé en con-
jonction avec les bloc-piles RIDGID appro-
priés indiqués à la section
Accessoires, per-
met de charger des piles lithium ion de 12V
/ 1,3 Ah dans une durée d’environ 3 heures.

AVERTISSEMENT
Examinez le coupe-tubes TC-40, son
bloc-piles et son chargeur avant chaque
utilisation afin de remédier à toute anom-
alie éventuelle susceptible d’endom-
mager l’appareil et limiter les risques
de blessure par choc électrique ou aut-
res causes.
La lame de l’appareil est tranchante.
Mani-pulez-la avec soin.
1. Le bloc-piles doit être retiré du coupe-
tubes TC-40 et du chargeur, et le
chargeur doit être débranché. Pour re-
tirer le bloc-piles du TC-40, appuyez,
avec les mains sèches, sur les boutons
de déverrouillage, puis retirez-le de la
poignée du coupe-tubes
(Figure 3).

2. Si nécessaire, appuyez sur le bouton de
déverrouillage de lame pour ramener
la lame complètement.
3. Nettoyez le coupe-tubes, le bloc-piles et
le chargeur soigneusement afin de par-
faire leur inspection et éviter que le
coupe-tubes s’échappe de vos mains en
cours d’utilisation.
4. Examinez le coupe-tubes, le bloc-piles
et le chargeur pour signes d’éléments
endommagés, usés, manquants, mal
alignés ou grippés, ainsi que pour toute
autre anomalie susceptible de nuire au
bon fonctionnement et à la sécurité de
l’appareil.
• Vérifiez le bon fonctionnement du com-
mutateur marche avant/marche arrière
et l’absence de grippage à ce niveau.
• Assurez-vous que le témoin de tube
fonctionne normalement, sans grippage
et sans points d’accrochage. Le témoin
devrait normalement saillir d’environ 1/8"

débris ne pourra bloquer le témoin en
