General Handling Guidelines
• Careful handling, using proper ESD precautions, must be observed.
• Power down the system before PCB removal.
ESD Susceptibility — Avoid handling the switcher circuit
boards in high static environments such as carpeted areas, and
when synthetic fiber clothing is worn. Touch the frame to
dissipate static charge before removing boards from the frame,
and exercise proper grounding precautions when working on
circuit boards.
Environmental Information
The equipment that you purchased required the extraction and use
of natural resources for its production. It may contain hazardous
substances that could impact health and the environment.
To avoid the potential release of those substances into the environment and to
diminish the need for the extraction of natural resources, Ross Video encourages
you to use the appropriate take-back systems. These systems will reuse or
recycle most of the materials from your end-of-life equipment in an

The contents of a single 8-Keyer Module upgrade kit is listed below. If any
items are missing, or damaged, contact Ross Video Technical Support.

8-Keyer Module Installation
To install the 8-Keyer module for the Vision control panel, you must power
down the control panel, disconnect the communications cables, remove the
Keyer module, install the new module, and then connect the power and
communications cables.
A single 8-Keyer module can be installed in the control panel.
Use the following procedure to install the 8-Keyer module:
1. Power down the control panel. The frame can remain on during this
procedure. Refer to your switcher documentation for information on
shutting down the switcher.
2. Unplug the Primary and Redundant (if installed) power from the
control panel.
Warning Hazardous Voltage — Hazardous voltages are
present in the control panel as long as any of the power supplies
are connected to the AC power.
3. Lift up on the control panel lid to gain access to the control panel tub.
4. Identify the Keyer module that you want to replace with the 8-Keyer
module. This should be the control panel row that is assigned as the
Program/Preset row.
5. Disconnect the Module Power Cable from the Keyer module you
want to remove (Figure 1). This 4-conductor ribbon cable delivers
power to all the modules in the row. When removing it, ensure that
you do not accidently unplug it from any neighboring modules.

6. Disconnect the Module Control Link Cables from the Keyer module
you want to remove. These CAT5e cables deliver all the command

signals to and from the module, as well as the other modules in the
same row.
7. Remove the Retaining Bolts located at each corner of the Keyer
module and keep them in a safe place. A ¼ inch hex driver or wrench
is required.
8. Remove the Keyer module plate from the control panel.
9. Slide the 8-Keyer module into the module opening.
10. Install the Retaining Bolts located at each corner of the module to a
maximum torque of 5 in-lbs (6 cm-kg). A ¼ inch hex driver or
wrench is required.
11. Connect and secure the Module Control Link Cables to the PMC on
the 8-Keyer module (Figure 2). One cable connects to the previous
module in the row, and the other cable to the next module.

12. Connect and secure the Module Power Cable to the 8-Keyer module
(Figure 3).

13. Close the control panel lid and reconnect the power supplies.
This completes the procedure for installing the 8-Keyer module.

8-Keyer Module Setup
With the 8-Keyer module installed and cabled, the Vision switcher must
be set up to properly communicate with the 8-Keyer module.
Refer to your Vision Engineering Manual for information on upgrading
your PMCs and assigning the 8-Keyer module to a panel row.
