Product Introduction
1.1 Product Overview
Following on from the RG-AM5528 and RG-AM5528(ES), RG-AM5532 is an i-Share+ dedicated
wireless access point (AP) released by Ruijie Networks for scenarios with high building
density, such as the campus network for dormitory buildings and the hospital network for
medical wards. The RG-AM5532 provides four optical ports, four copper ports, or two optical
ports and two copper ports for data uplinks. Four uplink copper ports can supply power to
four devices that support IEEE 802.3af or two devices that support IEEE 802.3at for expansion
of APs that support standard PoE. Based on the IEEE 802.11 protocol, the RG-AM5532 can
provide 24 RF modules by using Category-5 cables to deliver dual-band and two spatial-
stream performance for 24 rooms, with 600 Mbps bandwidth for each room. A total of 14.4
Gbps wireless throughput can be achieved, meeting the high-performance access
requirements in dormitory buildings. Important factors such as the wireless network
security, radio control, mobile access, Quality of Service (QoS), and seamless roaming are
fully taken into account for the RG-AM5532. Therefore, the RG-AM5532 can implement STA
data forwarding, security, and access control.

Caution

The following symbol on the product nameplate indicates that the RG-AM5532 is applicable
only to areas below 2000 m (6561.68 ft.) above sea level.
Product Appearance
The front panel of the RG-AM5532 provides 24 × 10/100/1000Base-T Ethernet ports, 4 × 1000
Mbps uplink copper ports, 4 × 10 Gbps SFP+ optical ports, and one console port. The rear
panel has an AC power connector.

Caution
To change the mode of the port status LED (to switching or PoE mode), you can press and hold the power
button for over two seconds.
Port Modes
Ports 25 to 32 on the RG-AM5532 can work in three modes. Only a maximum of four ports
can work simultaneously in each mode.
(1) Mixed mode: two optical ports and two copper ports. As shown in the following figure,
ports 27, 28, 31, and 32 are working simultaneously.
(2) 4GE mode: four copper ports. As shown in the following figure, ports 25 to 28 are 1000
Mbps uplink copper ports, while ports 29 to 32 are not working.
(3) 4SFP+ mode: four optical ports. As shown in the following figure, ports 29 to 32 are 10
Gbps uplink optical ports, while ports 25 to 28 are not working.

Heat Dissipation Solution
The RG-AM5532 adopts the dual-fan design. To ensure proper heat dissipation, maintain a
minimum clearance of 10 cm (3.94 in.) around the device for air circulation. To install the AP
on a rack, it is recommended to install the AP at a spacing of 1 U. Do not stack the AP. Handle
the AP by strictly following the instructions. Avoid blocking the vents; otherwise, the heat
dissipation of the device will be affected. Dust the device every three months to avoid
blocking the ventilation openings.

Preparing for Installation
2.1 Safety Precautions
Caution
To avoid personal injury and device damage, carefully read the safety precautions before you
install the RG-AM5532.
The following safety precautions may not cover all possible dangers.
2.1.1 General Safety Precautions
Keep the chassis clean, free from any dust.
Do not place the device in walking areas.
During the installation and maintenance, do not wear loose clothes, ornaments, or any
other things that may be hooked by the chassis.
Cut off all power supplies and unplug all power cords and cables before installing or
removing the AP onto or from a rack.
2.1.2 Handling Safety
Do not frequently move the device.
Keep balance and prevent personal injury when handling the device.
Cut off all power supplies and unplug all power cords before moving or handling the
device.
2.1.3 Electric Safety
Observe local regulations and specifications during electric operations. Only personnel
with relevant qualifications can perform such operations.
Before installing the device, check whether there are potential risks at the installation
location. For example, check whether the power socket is grounded and whether the
ground is wet.
Find the position of the indoor emergency power switch before installation. Cut off the
power switch in case of accidents.
Do not maintain the device by yourself when the device is powered on.
Confirm the preceding items when you cut off the power supply.
Do not place the device in a wet position, and keep the device away from liquid.

Caution
Improper or incorrect electric operations may cause a fire, electric shock, and other
accidents, and lead to severe and fatal personal injury and device damage.
Direct or indirect contact with high voltage or mains power supply through wet objects may cause fatal
dangers.
2.1.4 Electrostatic Discharge Safety
To prevent damage from static electricity, pay attention to the following:
Ensure that the grounding stud on the rear panel of the device is grounded. Use a single-
phase three-core power socket that has a protective earth (PE) ground wire for the AC
power supply.
Keep the indoor installation environment clean and free of dust.
Maintain proper humidity in the indoor installation environment.
2.1.5 Laser Safety
The RG-AM5532 supports multiple models of optical modules, which are generally Class I
optical modules. Optical modules are easily damaged by improper use. Therefore, pay
attention to the following precautions when using optical modules.
When an optical fiber transceiver works, ensure that its port has been connected with an
optical fiber or covered by a dust cap to keep out dust and prevent it from burning your
eyes.
When an optical module is used on the device, do not remove the optical fiber and look into
the port.
Caution
Otherwise, your eyes may be permanently injured.
2.2 Installation Environment Requirements
For the normal operation and prolonged service life of the device, the installation site must
meet the following requirements.
2.2.1 Ventilation Requirements
Maintain a minimum clearance of 10 cm (3.94 in.) around the device for air circulation. After
various cables are connected, bundle the cables or place them in the cable management
bracket to avoid blocking air inlets. Dust the device every three months to avoid blocking the
ventilation openings.

2.2.2 Temperature and Humidity Requirements
To ensure the normal operation and prolonged service life of the device, maintain an
appropriate temperature and humidity in the equipment room. An equipment room with too
high or too low temperature and humidity for a long period may damage the device.
In an environment with high relative humidity, the insulating material may have poor
insulation or even leak electricity. Sometimes it is also prone to changes in the mechanical
properties and causes rusting of metal parts.
In an environment with low relative humidity, the insulating strip may dry and shrink, static
electricity may occur and damage the internal circuits of the device.
In an environment with high temperature, the device performance is greatly degraded and
the device hardware is prone to failures.
The following table describes the temperature and humidity requirements for the RG-AM5532.

Caution
The ambient temperature and humidity of the device are measured at the point that is 1.5 m (59.06 in.) above
the floor and 0.4 m (15.75 in.) before the front panel of the device when there is no protective plate in front or
at the back of the rack.
2.2.3 Cleanliness Requirements
Dust poses a major threat to the device. Indoor dust falling on the device may be adhered by
static electricity, causing poor contact of metallic joints. Such electrostatic adhesion may
occur more easily when the relative humidity is low, not only affecting the service life of the
device but also causing communication faults. The following table describes the
requirements for the dust content and granularity in the equipment room.

Apart from dust, the salt, acid, and sulfide in the air in the equipment room must also meet
strict requirements. These harmful substances will accelerate metal corrosion and
component aging. Therefore, the equipment room should be properly protected against the
intrusion of harmful gases, such as sulfur dioxide, hydrogen sulfide, nitrogen dioxide,
ammonia gas, and chlorine gas. The following table lists limit values for harmful gases.

Caution
Average refers to the average value of harmful gases measured in one week. Maximum refers to the upper
limit of harmful gases measured in one week, and the maximum value cannot last for more than 30 minutes
every day.
2.2.4 Anti-interference Requirements
The AP is susceptible to external interference by capacitive coupling, inductive coupling,
electromagnetic waves, common impedance (including the grounding system) coupling, or
conduction over power cables, signal cables, and outgoing transmission cables. Note that:
In a TN earthing system, use a single-phase three-core power socket that has a protective
earth (PE) ground wire to allow the filter circuit in the device to eliminate interference
from the power grid.
Keep the device away from high-power radio stations, radar stations, and high-frequency
high-current devices.
Use EMI shielding such as shielded interface cables to minimize interference when
necessary.
Route interface cables only indoors to prevent signal ports from getting damaged by
overvoltage or overcurrent caused by lightning strikes.
2.2.5 Grounding Requirements
A proper grounding system is the basis for stable and reliable running and is indispensable
for preventing lightning strikes and interference. Carefully check the grounding conditions at
the installation site according to the grounding specifications, and complete grounding
properly based on the actual situation.
Caution
Proper grounding is an important guarantee for protecting the device from lightning and interference.
Safe Grounding
Ensure that the device is grounded through the yellow/green ground cable when the device
uses the AC power supply. Otherwise, electric shock may occur when the insulation
resistance between the power supply inside the device and the chassis becomes small.

Caution
The building should provide a protective ground connection to ensure that the device is connected to a
protective earth.
The maintenance personnel should check whether the AC socket is reliably connected to the protection
ground of the building. If not, the maintenance personnel should use a protection ground wire to connect the
protection ground terminal of the AC socket to the protection ground of the building.
The power socket should be installed in an easily operable position near the device.
During the device installation, connect the ground cable first and disconnect it last.
The cross-sectional area of the protection ground cable should be at least 0.75 mm2 (18 AWG).
When installing the device, use a three-core power cord. The cross-sectional area of each pin is at least 0.75
mm2 (18 AWG).
Lightning Grounding
The lightning protection system of facilities is an independent system composed of a lightning
rod, a lower conductor, and a connector connected to the grounding system. The grounding
system is usually used for power reference grounding and yellow/green ground cable
grounding. Lightning discharge grounding is required only for facilities and is not required for
the device.
EMC Grounding
Grounding required for electromagnetic compatibility includes shielded grounding, filter
grounding, noise and interference suppression, and level reference, which contribute to the
overall grounding requirements. The grounding resistance should be smaller than 1 ohm. The
rear panel has a grounding stud, as shown in Figure 2-1.

2.2.6 Lightning Protection Requirements
The AC power port must be connected to an external lightning arrester to prevent the device
from being struck by lightning when the AC power cord is introduced from the outdoor and
directly connected to the power port of the device. To use a lightning arrester, connect the
mains AC power cable to the lightning arrester, and then connect the RG-AM5532 to the
lightning arrester. To some extent, this can prevent the high-voltage lightning current from
directly passing through the RG-AM5532 via the mains power cable.

Caution
The lightning arrester is customer-supplied.

2.2.7 EMI Requirements
All interference sources, either from outside or inside of the device or application system,
affect the device by capacitive coupling, inductive coupling, or electromagnetic waves.
Electromagnetic interference (EMI) occurs due to electromagnetic radiation or conduction,
depending on the transmission path.
When the energy, often RF energy, from a component arrives at a sensitive component via
the space, the energy is known as radiated interference. The interference source can be both
a part of the interfered system and a completely electrically isolated unit. Conduction
interference occurs when interference is transferred from one unit to another unit through
cables, which are usually electromagnetic wires or signal cables connected between the
source and the victim. Conducted interference often affects the power supply of the
equipment, but can be controlled by a filter. Radiated interference may affect any signal path
in the equipment, and is difficult to shield.
Take interference prevention measures for the power supply system.
Keep the grounding device of the RG-AM5532 far away from the grounding or lightning
protection devices for power equipment.
Keep the RG-AM5532 far away from high-frequency high-current devices such as high-
power radio transmitting station and radar launcher.
Take electromagnetic shielding measures when necessary.

Installing the Device
Caution
Before installing the device, make sure that you have carefully read the requirements
described in Chapter 2.
Ensure that requirements in Chapter 2 are all met.
3.1 Installation Procedure

3.2 Before You Begin
Confirm the following requirements before installation:
The installation site meets the heat dissipation requirements.
The installation site meets the temperature and humidity requirements.
The power supply and required current are available in the installation site.
The network cables have been deployed in the installation site.
3.3 Installing the RG-AM5532
Precautions
When installing the device, pay attention to the following:
Connect the power cord of the specific color with the corresponding grounding stud.
Ensure that the power cord is securely connected with the power connector of the device.
After the power cord is connected with the device, use a retention clip to protect the power
cord.
Do not place any object on the RG-AM5532.
Maintain a minimum clearance of 10 cm (3.94 in.) around the device for heat dissipation. Do
not stack the device.
Keep the RG-AM5532 away from high-power radio stations, radar stations, and high-
frequency high-current devices. Use EMI shielding such as shielded interface cables to
minimize interference when necessary.
Route 100-meter cables indoors. If 100-meter cables need to be routed outdoors, take
lightning protection measures.
3.3.1 Installing the RG-AM5532 in a Cabinet
The RG-AM5532 can be installed in a 19-inch EIA cabinet. The installation steps are as
follows:
Step 1: Secure one end of a bracket to each side of the RG-AM5532 by using the matching
screws.

Step 2: Mount the device into the cabinet and secure the other ends of the brackets to square
hole posts of the cabinet by using the cage nuts and M6 screws.
