Operation of the rake before reading the operator’s manual
carefully as well as operating by the unauthorized staff, especially
by children, is strictly forbidden .

Do not turn the rakes’ drive on until the machine is in operating
position.

Machine’s parts, which have been bent after collision with
obstacles or stones are repaired on charge by SaMASZ.

1. IDENTIFYING THE MACHINE
Data plate, VIN and approval plate are mounted to the rake’s main frame in the place shown in
Fig. 1.

CAUTION!
It is forbidden to drive the machine on public roads with damaged, illegible or
missing identification plates.
2. INTRODUCTION
❑This operator’s manual should be considered as the basic rake’s equipment. If the rake is handed
over to another operator, it should be in working condition and given away along with operator’s
manual and it’s other basic equipment.
❑Operator’s manual is attached to every machine in order that the operator can familiarize himself
with design, working principles, service and adjustment of the rake. The user of the rake should be
familiar with common safety rules and procedures.
❑The rake is manufactured according to international safety rules.
❑Compliance with the warnings in this operator’s manual will ensure safe operation.
❑Please contact your dealer if you have any queries relating to the operation and service of the rake.
❑This operator’s manual is an indispensable part of any machine and is intended to familiarize future
user with principles of proper operation and use of the machine as well as the risks involved.

3. PROPER USE
Rotary rake is designed to rake up green forage, dried forage and hay. The machine cooperates
with tractors with power from 60 HP. The rake can be used only by persons familiarized with its
technical characteristics, and aware of risks associated with its operation and ways to avoid these.
CAUTION!
Use of the rake for purposes other than mentioned herein is forbidden. Different
use than the above mentioned shall be considered as improper and may lead to
revoking of the warranty.
The machine should be operated, maintained and repaired only by personnel
who are familiarized with its detailed specifications and safety rules and
procedures. Willful modifications to the rake may lead to revoking of the
warranty.

Hitch (1) allows for connecting the rake to tractor's lower pull-cables. Drive from the tractor's PTO
shaft is transmitted by a shaft (3) located under the rake's linkage (2) onto bevel gear I (4), which
distributes the drive with shafts (5) on carousel gear I (6) and bevel gear II (7). Then the drive from the
carousel gear II (7) is transmitted with the shaft (8) onto the carousel gear II (9).
On the rotor, there are arms (10) installed to which raking tines (11) are mounted. Adjustment
cranks (12) are used to set the raking height. Below the carousel gears (6) and (9) there are driving
trolleys (15). The rake is equipped with safety guards (13) and swath screens (14) used to form the
row. During transport outside arms are taken off and placed inside the holders (16); put the tine
protections.

PTO shafts of other brands with equivalent technical parameters may be used on the SaMASZ
permission.
CAUTION!
Respect lubrication frequency of telescopic articulated shaft solely. Points
marked in Fig. 3 shall be lubricated every 50 hours. Telescopic articulated shaft
shall be lubricated prior to and after period of longer idleness also.

4. SAFETY ADVICE AND CAUTION
4.1. Safety rules and regulations
❑Front axis of the tractor should be well weighted to keep the balance. If need be, use front wheel
weights.
❑Any operation with the hydraulic lift lever should be conducted from the operator's seat; DO NOT
move the lever from outside of the tractor.
In case of tractors equipped with EHR, controlling with hydraulic lift is conducted with a button
located outside the tractor's cabin. When operating, please be extremely careful.
❑When driving on public roads always respect the local traffic regulations concerning warning -lights,
while the rake shall be equipped with required safety devices.
❑Operating without safety guards is not permitted.
❑Unauthorized persons should keep away in a safe distance from the rake. The utmost attention
shall be required when working near roads and carriageways.
❑Perform any maintenance and -adjustment works with the drive disconnected and the rotor in
complete standstill.
CAUTION!
Any operations related to service and repair should be conducted with the
tractor drive disconnected, and all rotating parts in the complete standstill.

CAUTION!
Keep the children away from the mower both in operation and standstill.
❑When in standstill the machine should be protected against unauthorized use with a padlock
mounted on hitch pin (Fig. 36).
❑Prior to performing any maintenance works, assembly, disassembly, set the machine onto a stable
ground and protect against unintentional shifting.
❑When cleaning the machine, use personal protective equipment for health protection.
❑Any maintenance inspections and regulations may be conducted only when the mower is
disassembled and lowered onto the ground.
❑If any maintenance or adjustment works under the lifted rake are necessary, it must be secured
against falling with a support.
❑If any part of the mower needs to be replaced, use only genuine spare parts according to catalogue
of spare parts.
❑Bolts and other fasteners should be inspected on regular basis. Operating with damaged or worn
fasteners is not admissible.
❑Locking pawl line should be mounted with relevant tolerance in the tractor cabin.
❑When operating the rake, please comply with the Resolution of the Minister of Agriculture and Food
Economy of 12-01-1998 on work safety when operating tractors, machines, technical instruments
and devices used in agriculture (Dz. U. no 12/98 item 51.)
❑When operating the rake, the tractor should always be equipped with an operator's cabin.
❑The rake should not be operated unless the cooperating tractor is well balanced.
❑Never start the rake if it is lifted up.
❑Never start the mower when persons or animals are present near the machine.
❑Always comply with safety decals describing hazards, and warning signs placed on the machine.
❑Before you start the tractor make sure that every other drives are turned off and the levers steering
hydraulics are in neutral position.
❑Never leave the tractor’s engine running without supervision. Before you leave the tractor, lower
work assemblies in the ground, turn off the engine and put off the key from tractor’s ignition switch.
❑Do not approach moving jointed connections of hitches when in operation.
❑It is forbidden to drive the rake backwards when operating.
❑Never get onto the rake.
❑It is not permitted to lift the rake arms up with the drive on and the discs rotating.
❑Keep away from the area between tractor and the machine, before tractor-rake set is secured
against moving by the tractor’s brake.
❑The machine should be stored under roof and in manner that effectively prevents animals and
persons from being injured.
❑Do not leave agricultural machinery on slopes or other descents without providing protection
against its free runaway.
❑Due to risk of tipping, it is not permissible to fold rotors for work on cants (across the slope). Setting
the machine should be performed on an even ground or upwards/down the slope.
❑When operating over a stony field or nearby roads there exists a risk of throwing out stones or other
objects, which may pose a danger for passing-by vehicles on the road or for passers-by. Therefore
keep the safe distance.

❑Rotating spring tines and other rotary elements present a danger to health and life of persons
present nearby the machine. Do not touch any moving machine parts.
❑The operator is not allowed to leave the tractor while driving.
❑Prior to approaching operation with the machine, make sure that all safety guards are not damaged
and fitted in place. It is forbidden to operate with missing or damaged guards.
❑Pressure in the machine's wheels should be check regularly and held constant.
❑Repair works at wheels should be carried out by personnel who are trained and competent in this
respect, using appropriate tools.
❑In the event of any break in the equipment operation, turn off the drive.
❑Bear in mind that when operating and transporting the machine in areas where high voltage lines
are present, special caution should be exercised due to possibility of contacting the aggregate with
the lines.
❑When used in storm, the machine is exposed to lightning.
❑Prior to performing any maintenance works, assembly, disassembly, set the machine onto a stable
ground and protect against unintentional shifting.
❑When cleaning the machine, use personal protective equipment for health protection.
❑In case of a fatal failure, stop the machine's drive, turn the tractor's engine off and take out the
ignition key. Then call for technical service, and if an accident (in this case: road accident) occurs,
respect first aid rules and contact responsible authorities.
❑Rake should be kept clean to avoid risk of fire.
❑Allow no person and object to remain on the machine when driving or transporting.
❑When taking turns pay particular attention and consider weight and dimensions of the machine.
4.2. Qualifications of operator
To provide safe machine operation each person being the machine operator must meet the
following requirements:
❑Operator should hold driving license, have ability to drive vehicles safely and know road traffic rules.
❑Operator must be in proper physical condition to be able to operate the machine.
❑Operator must not be under the influence of alcohol, drugs and medicines, which all have influence
on vehicle driving and machine operation.
❑Operator should be familiarized with this manual and follow its provisions.
❑Operator should be familiar with working principles of both the tractor and the machine, and be able
to recognize and avoid hazards resulting from operation of the aggregate.
4.3. Mounting rake onto tractor
❑Prior to the mounting operation, check whether the tractor's and the mower's hitch categories are
compatible and make sure that tractor's hitch load is adequate for the machine aggregated.
❑Prior to mounting the machine, examine technical condition of the rake’s hitch assembly and
tractor's 3-point linkage.
❑Use only genuine pins and cotters to mount the mower on a tractor.
❑Once the machine is mounted on tractor check stability and manoeuvrability of the latter. Load on
the front axle should be approx. 20% of the weight of tractor. Otherwise, ballast front of the tractor.

4.4. Transport
❑Before transporting the rake make sure that the support leg is lifted and protected.
❑Before transporting the rake make sure that the locking pawls are properly latched in the transport
position.
❑Any modifications in the rake's position are possible only if no unauthorized personnel is around
(children in particular).
❑When driving on public roads, the rake should be equipped with warning plates with luminous and
reflecting elements, and a warning triangle for a slow driving vehicle.
❑When transported the rake should always be set in transport position. see item 5.2.
❑Prior to shifting the machine to transport position make sure, that the tractor PTO is disconnected
and all the rotating parts in complete standstill.
❑Driving speed should always be adjusted to road conditions and local traffic regulations.
❑Do not exceed permissible speed of 30 km/h.
4.4.1. Moving machines onto another vehicle for transport
Both the carrier and the driver shall be responsible for the rake's transport safety. Any equipment
and parts must be secured properly for transport.
In order to safely move the rake onto another vehicle, please follow these rules:
❑the machine should be seized by any lifting device only in places indicated on the machine by the
hook sign,
❑to lift the rake, use only lifting devices with hoisting capacity bigger than the rake's weight provided
on data plate. It also applies to ropes and chains used for lifting,
❑transport belts, belt suspensions, ropes cannot be damaged. Whenever damages to these parts are
found replace these with new ones,
❑when mounting slings, chains, handles etc. always pay attention to setting the machine's centre of
gravity properly (Fig. 4),
❑to catch machines, pick ropes of adequate length, so that the angle between them is no greater than
120°, and the angle between the strand and the vertical is no greater than 60°,
❑collapsible elements should be locked in transport position,
❑when moving the rake onto another vehicle, there should be no unauthorised personnel permitted
to remain within the danger area,
❑the rake should be protected from shifting on the vehicle's trailer.
CAUTION!
Securing both danger area and activity performed shall lie under responsibility
of the person in charge of the rake's transporting.

4.5. Operating parts
❑Prior to operating the rake check condition of both the rotor and raking tines.
❑Worn or damaged tines should be replaced immediately with new ones.
CAUTION!
When replacing working parts, always use protective gloves.
4.6. Telescopic articulated shaft
❑Prior to operating learn provisions found in the shaft manufacturer's manual placed on the shaft.
❑Use only PTO shafts recommended by rake’s manufacturer.
❑Pay particular attention to PTO shaft’s guards and rake’s and tractor’s spline shaft guards. Never
work with damaged guards.
❑In order to operate safely use only fully technically fit, undamaged PTO shafts. Damaged PTO shaft
shall be repaired or replaced with new one.
❑Before operation, check all guards (in tractor, machine and the shaft), if they are in place and are
functional. Any worn or damaged guard must be replaced. Damaged or missing guard of drive shaft
may cause serious accident and even death.
❑Possible inclination of the shaft depends on shape and size of the guard. Before operation check if
guards in any position are not damaged or locked.
❑The shaft should be disconnected from the machine if steering angle is too much.
❑Before any operation make sure whether PTO rpm have proper rotational direction.
4.7. Hydraulic assembly
❑CAUTION! Hydraulic assembly is under pressure! Hydraulic oil under pressure may permeate
through skin and cause serious injury, therefore skin and eyes should be protected in particular. In
case of injuries caused by liquid under pressure, call a doctor immediately.

❑Hydraulic hoses can be connected to tractor's hydraulics, provided that both the tractor's and the
rake's hydraulic assemblies are not under pressure. To remove the pressure from the hoses just
simply restart the tractor's hydraulic valves several times, once the tractor is off.
❑When dismounting the machine from the tractor, set the equipment aside, deflate the pressure from
hydraulics and turn tractor's engine off.
❑When inspecting hydraulic assembly's malfunction and looking for oil leaks, it is forbidden to touch
any potential leaks until the entire assembly is under pressure.
❑CAUTION! It is recommended that the hydraulic oil used should not exceed 10 oil purity class in
accordance with NAS 1638.
Exploitation of hydraulic hoses:
❑Avoid stretching the hoses when operating.
❑Do not allow hydraulic hoses to get deflected.
❑Do not expose hydraulic hoses to contact with any sharp edges.
❑If damaged or worn, replace the hoses with new ones.
❑Useful life for hydraulic hoses is 5 years from their production date.
4.8. Residual risk
Despite the fact, that SaMASZ company –the manufacturer of the rake takes the responsibility
for the rake design and manufacturing, in order to eliminate hazard, certain risk when operating the rake
is unavoidable.
Major source of risk follows performance of these operations:
❑operation of the rake by minors as well as not being learned with the content of the operator's
manual,
❑operating the rake by persons under influence of alcohol or other abusive substances,
❑not being cautious while transporting and moving the rake during its operation,
❑transport of persons remaining on the machine,
❑presence of persons and animals within the rake's operation range,
❑performing operations related to servicing and adjustment with engine on.
4.8.1. Danger of being caught or pulled in
This kind of risk occurs when the rake's position is changed, when operating near rotating parts
without safety guards.
When operating, maintenance and regulation works are conducted always wear protective gloves,
footwear and clothing with no loose parts, belts, etc. Always comply with warnings placed on the rake.
4.8.2. Danger of injury, abrasion and damage of skin
This risk occurs when replacing working parts with sharp edges, cleaning the machine, removing
the clogging and jams, repair works of wheels. During any maintenance work always use safety gloves.
4.8.3. Danger of liquid ejection out of hydraulic system
During connection of hydraulic hoses to hydraulic connectors make sure, that either tractor’s or
tedder’s hydraulic system is without pressure.
During operation of hydraulic system always wear protective glasses and gloves. Check regularly
hydraulic hoses.

CAUTION!
Residual risk results from incorrect behaviour of the rake's operator.
4.8.4. Bans
Bear in mind the following bans when operating the rake:
❑do not remove clogs from the rake, make any adjustments or repairs when the rake is operating,
❑never change the sequence of operation and maintenance works specified in the operator's manual,
❑never operate the rake when its working condition is poor or has safety guards damaged,
❑never get your limbs close to the rake's rotating parts,
❑during repair and maintenance works on the rake always comply with the descriptions included in
the operator's manual, while conducting them with the tractor drive disconnected,
❑prior to approaching any works, focus your attention solely on the tasks to do,
❑never operate the rake being under influence of alcohol, drugs, or strong medicines,

the machine's rotating parts,
❑the rake cannot be operated by children or handicapped people.
When describing residual risk, the rake shall be considered a machine, which until the moment of
production launching had been designed and manufactured in accordance with top technology level
actual as per the rake’s manufacture date.
CAUTION!
Despite following the specified instructions and prohibitions, residual risk is still
present.
4.8.5. Residual risk assessment
Keep the following recommendations:
❑learn the operator’s manual thoroughly,
❑do not allow any person to remain on the machine when operating and driving,
❑do not allow any person to remain within the rake's operating range,
❑perform any works related to machine's adjustment, maintenance and lubrication with engine off,
❑perform machine repair works if skilled in such respect,
❑operate the machine upon having learned the operator’s manual,
❑protect the machine against access of children and any unauthorized personnel
in result residual risk when operating the machine may be limited to a necessary minimum.
When the risk of being exposed to noise cannot be avoided or eliminated by any
group protective means or organization of work, employer (operator) must:
1) provide the operator with individual means of noise protection, if the noise level
in work place exceeds 80 dB.
2) provide the operator with individual means of noise protection and supervise its
proper use, if the noise level in work place reaches or exceeds 85 dB.

5. USING THE RAKE
5.1. Mounting rake on tractor
CAUTION!
When attaching the rake, there should be no persons between the machine and
the tractor. Any accidental manoeuvring with the aggregate might cause
crushing of unauthorized personnel.
CAUTION!
The machine should be mounted on a level ground.
Rake TANGO cooperates with tractors with power from 60 HP.
❑The rake should be attached to a tractor with use of tractor's lower pull-cables as provided
in Fig. 7. For this purpose drive the tractor at the rake's catch, and then place hangers Wof tractor's
lower pull-cables on pins Son the rake's linkage.
❑Once the rake is mounted turn support leg back and protect it with pin K.
❑Connect hydraulic hoses (Fig. 6).
❑Connect machine's controller to tractor's lighter outlet (12V) by means of a plug and a three-pin
plug to socket on the rake's linkage. Fix the controller in tractor's cabin by means of magnetic holder
in a visible place.
❑Connect the machine's lighting cables to the tractor and check the lights for operation.
❑Connect telescopic articulated shaft. If need be shorten the shaft as per item 5.3.

❑After the rake has been attached to tractor, check the balance and steerability of tractor - rake set.
To do this, calculate to formulas given in the appendix or weigh the set, and then drive on the scales
only with front axis of the tractor. If the pressure on the front axis is at least 20% of the whole set’s
pressure, it means the set is stable. Otherwise, front axis should be balanced.
5.1.1. Control panel
Controller (Fig. 8) enables switching the rake's working units to working position (lowering) and
transport position (lifting). During the machine operation, if diode (1) is lit the sequential lifting and
lowering of working units function is enabled. Button (C) is for switching between the panel functions.
Once button (C) is pressed the diode (1) goes off, a diode (2) will light up to indicate deactivation of
sequential lifting and lowering function and thus activation of folding the machine for transport and
unfolding it for operation function. Once this option is enabled the working units will fold and unfold
steadily.

CAUTION! once diode (2) lights up the function remains active for 60 seconds. This time is sufficient
to fold the machine to transport position or unfold it to working position. As the 60 s time elapses the
panel will go to sequential operation mode.

5.2. Preparing rake for transport
CAUTION!
Switching the machine from working to transport position, and the other way
round can only be done on an even and stable ground. Prior to starting any works
make sure that nearby the machine there are no unauthorized persons exposed
to being crushed.
In order to prepare the rake for transport (drive on a road):
❑due to safety reasons, before setting the rake to transport position turn off the PTO shaft; raking
arms cannot be in motion,
❑lift safety guards to transport position,
❑take out the extreme most raking arms from a rotor, place them in transport holes (depending on
max. height of obstacles under way) (Fig. 9),
❑put the tine protections,
❑lift working assemblies and secure them with a pawl (P) (See point 5.9. Lifting rake on headlands
and transport position),
❑lower and secure a support leg,

CAUTION!
Once the machine is set to transport position, check whether mechanical locking
pawls (P) are properly locked on pins (Fig. 10).

5.2.1. Preparing rake for transport on public roads
To meet safety precautions concerning transport on the public roads the rake should be equipped
with warning triangle, attached at the rake's rear (the plates are standard-delivered with the machine.)
To improve safety during the transport the machine should be fitted with a warning triangle –to be
purchased at the manufacturer.
When transporting on public roads respect provisions valid in the country of use.
CAUTION!
If the rake's owner does not own the above warning lights and plates, these can
be ordered at the manufacturer.
5.3. Mounting telescopic articulated shaft
The machine is delivered with a separate instruction manual for PTO shafts.
Prior to commencing operation, examine and adjust length of PTO shaft, which is designed to
mount machine on tractor. In some cases it is possible, that the shaft is too long and therefore needs
to be shortened, so that there is adequate tolerance for the shortest possible distance between tractor’s
shaft and machine’s shaft.
Mount the shaft with wide-angle joint from the rake side. The guard should be protected against
rotating by securing the shaft set chains to immovable parts of the tractor and the rake.
CAUTION!
The telescopic articulated shaft should remain mounted only during the rake's
operation period. For transport and service time the shaft should be
disconnected from the tractor's PTO shaft.
CAUTION!
Use machines with correspondingly designed telescopic articulated drive
shafts. For any service and repair works of the shaft and the machine, the tractor
engine and its drive must be disconnected.
