1. IDENTIFYING THE MACHINE
Data plate is mounted to the rake’s main frame in the place shown below (Fig. 1).

CAUTION:
Should the contents of the herein manual be unclear, for more detailed
information on the machine ask the manufacturer or your dealer.
2. INTRODUCTION
 This operator’s manual should be considered as the basic rake’s equipment. If the rake is handed
over to another operator, it should be in working condition and given away along with
operator’s manual and it’s other basic equipment.
 Operator’s manual is attached to every machine in order that the operator can familiarize
himself with design, working principles, service and adjustment of the rake. The user of the rake
should be familiar with common safety rules and procedures.
 The rake is manufactured according to international safety rules.
 Compliance with the warnings in this operator’s manual will ensure safe operation.
 Please contact your dealer if you have any queries relating to the operation and service of
the rake.
 Operator’s manual remains part of rake’s equipment.

When operating the rake please comply with the warnings and
safety regulations shown throughout this manual by this safety
alert symbol .
CAUTION:
Operation of the rake before reading the operator’s manual carefully as well
as operating by the unauthorized staff, especially by children, is strictly
forbidden.

3. PROPER USE
SaMASZ rotary rake is designed for raking forage, dry forage and hay.Rotary rake can only
be used by people familiar with its technical data, danger situations that may occur during operation
and how to avoid them.
CAUTION:
Use of the rake for other purposes than the above mentioned is forbidden.
Different use than the above mentioned will be considered as improper and
may lead to revoking of the warranty. Rake should be used, operated and
repaired only by people familiarized with its detailed specifications and with
safety rules and regulations. Willful changes of the rake will lead to revoking
of the warranty.

The hitch (1) enables attaching the rake to tractor’s lower pins. The driver from tractors PTO
is transmitted by means of PTO shaft placed inside the main frame of the rake (2) on an intersecting
axis gear and then by means of shafts (3) on rotor gearboxes (4). On a rotor there are arms mounted
(5), to which the arms with tines are attached (6). On the arms there are safety guards (7). During
transport outside arms are taken off and placed inside the holders (8). Adjustment levers (9) are
used to regulate the height of raking. The rake is equipped with a curtain (10), which formulates
a windrow. Under the rotor gearboxes rake trolleys (11).

3.3. Standard equipment and spare parts
The rakes are sold with the following standard equipment:
 warranty card,
 operator’s manual along with spare parts list,
 PTO shaft,
 Spray paint (150 ml).

UWAGA:
Lubricate the PTO shaft with high quality multi-purpose grease every
50 shaft operating hours. If access holes are available, lubricate fittings
through access holes. See decal on guard if applicable (Fig. 4).
PTO shafts of other brands with equivalent parameters could be used after SaMASZ permission.
4. SAFETY ADVICE
4.1. Safety rules and regulations
 Operation without safety guards as well as with the damaged or raised guards is not allowed
(danger of the stones, etc. being thrown out).
 Raking can only be started after the power take-off reaches a nominal PTO speed.
 Nobody is allowed to remain within the danger area. Particular caution is necessary when
operating near roads and in stoney areas.
 Any maintenance and adjustment work should only be done after the drive has been
disconnected and when the rotors have come to the complete standstill.
 When driving on public roads always comply with local traffic regulations, especially
concerning warning lights.

CAUTION:
All service and repair operations must be done only after the tractor engine
has been stopped, all rotating parts have come to the complete standstill.
CAUTION:
Be certain that children and animals are at a safe distance away from the
machine. Never allow anyone to ride on a machine or tractor.
 The bolts and other fasteners have to be periodically checked and, if necessary, tightened or
replaced. DO NOT work with damaged or worn fasteners.
 When operating the rake, the tractor should always be equipped with the cabin.
 During operation of the rake the Regulation of the Farm Ministry and Food Economy
(Rozporządzenie Ministra Rolnictwa i Gospodarki Żywnościowej) from 12-01-1998 dealing
with safety and hygiene during the operation of tractors, machinery, tools andequipment used
for farming (Dz. U. Nr 12/98 poz. 51), should be observed,
 When operating the rake, the tractor should always be equipped with the cabin.
 Rake should not be operated when the tractor-rake set is not balanced.
 Never start the rake when it is lifted.
 Never start the rake, when people or animals are near the machine.
 Always comply with the safety decals describing hazards, and warning signs placed on
the machine.
 Before you start the tractor make sure that every other drives are turned off and the levers
steering hydraulics are in neutral position.
 Never leave the tractor’s engine running without supervision. Before you leave the tractor, turn
off the engine and put off the key from tractor’s ignition switch.
 It is forbidden to operate the rake when driving backwards.
 Never get on the rake in any case.
 Never lift the rake on tractor’s 3-point linkage when the drive is on and the rotors are rotating.
 Never stand between tractor and rake, before tractor-rake set is secured against moving by
the tractor’s brake.
 Every maintenance work and regulations can be done only when the rake is on the ground.
 If any maintenance work or regulation under lifted rake is needed, it must be secured against
falling.
 When the parts of the rake need replacement, use only original spare parts according to spare
parts list.
 Pay particular attention to PTO shaft’s guards and rake’s and tractor’s spline shaft guards.
Never work with damaged guards.
 The rake should be stored under roofed places and in the way that it will not harm people or
animals.
 Do not leave agricultural machinery on slopes or other descents without providing protection
against its free runaway.
 When operating over a stony field or nearby roads there exists a risk of throwing out stones or
other objects, which may pose a danger for passing-by vehicles on the road or for passers-by.
Therefore keep the safe distance.
 Rotating spring tines and other rotary elements present a danger to health and life of persons
present nearby the machine. Do not touch any moving machine parts.
 The operator is not allowed to leave the tractor while driving.
 Prior to approaching operation with the machine, make sure that all safety guards are not
damaged and fitted in place.
 Check pressure in the machine's wheels regularly.
 In the event of any break in the equipment operation, turn off the drive.

 Prior to performing any maintenance works set the machine onto a stable ground and protect
against unintentional shifting.
 In case of a fatal failure, stop the machine's drive, turn the tractor's engine off and take out the
ignition key. Then call for technical service, and if an accident (in this case: road accident)
occurs, respect first aid rules and contact responsible authorities.
4.2. Transport
 Every position change of the rake can only be done when there is nobody around (pay particular
attention to children).
 For the transport period put warning plate with combined lights and reflectors and warning
triangle on the rake.
 During transport always put the rake to transport position. See chapter 5.2.
 Before putting the rake to transport position make sure, that the tractor’s PTO is turned off and
all the rotating parts have come to complete standstill.
 Driving speed should always be adjusted to road conditions.
 Permissible speed is 30 km/h (17 mph) and it cannot be exceeded.
4.3. Putting the rake onto another vehicle for transport
The driver and the carrier are responsible for rake’s transport safety. Equipment and parts
must be secured during transport.
To put the rake onto another vehicle in a safe way, please obey the following rules:
 seize the rake by any lifting devices only in the places indicated by the hook sign (Fig. 5),
 for rake lifting use only lifting devices with hoisting capacity bigger than rake’s weight shown
in data plate. It also concerns ropes and chains used for lifting,
 transport belts, belt suspensions, ropes cannot be damaged. Whenever damages to these parts
are spotted replace these with new ones,
 when mounting slings, chains, handles etc. always pay attention to setting the machine's center
of gravity properly,
 to catch machines, pick ropes of adequate length, so that the angle between them is no greater
than 120°, and the angle between the strand and the vertical is no greater than 60°,
 collapsible parts should be blocked in transport position,
 during putting the rake onto another vehicle it is forbidden for anybody to remain in transport
area,
 on the vehicle’s trailer the machine should be secured against moving.
CAUTION:
Securing maneuvering area and transport of the rake is the responsibility of a
person who does it.

4.4. Working parts
 Before operating the rake check tine’s condition.
 Worn or damaged tines should be immediately replaced with new one.
4.5. PTO shaft
 Use only PTO shafts recommended by rake’s manufacturer.
4.6. Residual risk
Despite the fact, that company SaMASZ Białystok – the manufacturer of the rake takes
responsibility for design and manufacturing of the rake, in order to eliminate dangerous situations,
certain risk during rake’s operation is unavoidable.
Major source of risk follows performance of these operations:
 operation of rake by minors as well as not being familiarized with operator's manual,
 operation of rake by persons under influence of alcohol or other abusive substances,
 not keeping caution while transportation and shifting of rake during operation,
 transport of persons remaining on the machine,
 presence of persons and animals within the rake operation range,
 performing operations related to servicing and adjustment with engine on.
4.6.1. Danger of catching
This kind of risk occurs during changing the position of a rake, operation near rotating parts,
working without safety guards.
During operation, maintenance and regulations always wear protective gloves, shoes and
clothes without loose parts, belts and so on. Always comply with safety decals placed on the rake.

4.6.2. Danger of injury
This kind of risk occurs during replacement of working parts with sharp edges. During any
maintenance work always use safety gloves.
CAUTION:
Residual risk always results from incorrect behaviour of rake’s operator.
4.6.3. Bans
Please bear in mind the following bans during rake’s operation:
 never unblock the rake, make any regulations or repairs of the rake while it is in motion,
 never change the order of operation and maintenance activities described in operator’s manual,
 never operate the rake when it is not in working order or has damaged safety guards,
 never get your hands and legs close to rotating parts of the rake,
 during repair and maintenance of the rake always comply with the descriptions included in
operator’s manual. Always do these activities when the tractor’s drive is off,
 before you start any activities, focus your attention on them,
 never operate the rake under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or strong medicines,
 your clothes should not be too loose, or too tight. Too loose cloth parts may be pulled in by
the rotating parts of the rake,
 the rake cannot be operated by children or by handicapped people.
When describing residual risk, the rake is treated as a machine, that up to the moment of its
putting in motion it had been designed and manufactured according to technology level actual till
the day of rake’s manufacture.
CAUTION:
Residual risk occurs in case of not complying with described instructions and
bans.
4.6.4. Residual risk assessment
When keeping such recommendations as:
 thorough familiarizing with operator’s manual,
 no persons remaining on the machine when operating and during drives,
 no persons remaining within the rake operation range,
 adjustment, maintenance and lubrication of the machine with engine off,
 performing repairs of the machine only by skilled persons,
 operation of the machine by persons, which are familiarized with operator’s manual,
 in the event of the machine protection against children and unauthorized personnel residual risk
when operating the rake may be limited to necessary minimum.
When the risk of exposing to noise cannot be avoided or eliminated by any group
protective means or organization of work, employer (farmer) must:
1) provide the operator with individual means of noise protection, if the noise
level in work place exceeds 80 dB.
2) provide the operator with individual means of noise protection and supervise
the correctness of its usage, if the noise level in work place reaches or exceeds
85 dB.

5. OPERATION
5.1. Attaching the rake to the tractor
Rotary rake Z2-780 and Z2-840 works properly with tractors (class 2,0 and power from
60 HP) .
 The rake should be attached to a tractor with use of tractor's lower pull-cables as provided on
Fig. 7. For this purpose drive the tractor at the rake's catch, and then place hangers Wof
tractor's lower pull-cables on pins Son the rake's linkage.
 Once the rake is mounted turn support leg back.
 Connect hydraulic hoses.
 Connect the machine's lighting cables to the tractor and check the lights for operation.
 Connect telescopic articulated shaft. If need be shorten the shaft as per item 5.4.

5.2. Preparing the rake to transport
CAUTION:
Switching the machine from working to transport position, and the other way
round can only be done on an even and stable ground. Prior to starting any
works make sure that nearby the machine there are no unauthorized persons
exposed to being crushed.
To prepare the rake to transport and to meet safety precautions, please do the following:
 due to safety reasons, before setting the rake to transport position turn off the PTO shaft; raking
arms cannot be in motion,
 lift safety guards to transport position,
 take off extreme rotors, put them in the transport holes, (depending on the maximum height of
the obstacles during transport),
 lift support legs,
 lift working assemblies and secure them with a pawl.

CAUTION:
When lifting the machine for transport pay attention so that the tractor's glass
pane is closed. Protective barriers found on the rake may damage the glass.
5.3. Preparing the rake for transport on public roads
To meet safety precautions concerning transport on the public roads in Poland the rake should
be equipped with portable warning-light plates, to be mounted on both sides of rake (standard
equipment).
CAUTION:
Warning devices can be ordered from the rake’s manufacturer.
5.4. Mounting PTO shaft
PTO shaft’s end with wide-angle joint should be mounted on rakes’s side.
The PTO shaft plastic guards have to be secured by fastening their small chains to immovable
parts of tractor and rake.
CAUTION:
If need be, shorten the PTO haft according to its operator’s manual given by
the shaft’s manufacturer (Fig. 9).

CAUTION:
The PTO shaft should be mounted only during operation time and
disconnected from tractor PTO for transport and service.

CAUTION:
Use the machines with PTO shafts designed to drive them. Before the work
begins, check the safety guards (in tractor, rake and PTO shaft), if they are
placed correctly and are not damaged. Damaged or lost parts must be
replaced with genuine ones. Make sure the PTO shaft is properly mounted. It
is forbidden to approach the rotating parts, because it may lead to serious
injuries or even death. All service and repair operations must be done only
after the tractor engine has been stopped, all rotating parts have come to the
complete standstill and the cutterbar is on the ground. Before the operation
begins, read operator’s manuals of both the machine and PTO shaft.
CAUTION:
PTO shaft’s end with wide-angle join should be mounted on rake’s side.
5.5. Switching from transport to working position
 make sure there is nobody around in the place where you are going to lower the rake,
 unblock the locks with a cord,
 by means of hydraulic lifting lower arms of the rake in the slowliest way in order to cushion
contact with the ground,
 take off arms from transport holders, put them into the rotors and secure them with cotter pins,
 lower safety guards.
5.6. Preparing the rake for work
CAUTION:
During storing of the machines in company SaMASZ the cylinders are
protected by special grease in order to secure them against weather which
may cause their premature wear. Before starting the operation excess grease
should be removed from the cylinders.
Due to large dimensions of rakes, 4 arms are originally dismounted on each rotor for transport
purposes (TIR). In order to dismount these quicker they are mounted in factory with bolts. For
operation purposes put expansion pins which are provided with the machine instead of factory bolts
as given below:
 untighten bolts from four outer arms on the rakes in each of transmissions (Fig. 10),
 support rake arm in order to avoid damaging transmission connecting rod (Fig. 11),

 hammer expansion pins into holes, where bolts were previously found. Put pin Ø10 and Ø6 into
a single hole (Fig. 13).

Prior the first machine start-up, replace (Fig. 14) temporary wheel bolts (S), located in the
place of wheel header and rear wheel axle coupling, for Ø16 and Ø10 roll pins (K). Roll pins are in
a parts package, which comes together with the machine. Roll pins need to be put in the way shown
on Fig. 13.

When the rake is in working position, please do the following:
 connect PTO shaft between tractor and rake,
 by means of regulation lever (lift or lower) adjust demanded working height,

 on peat meadows there is a possibility to increase the distance of tines from the ground by
shifting arms of wheels‘ trolley. In rotary rake Z2-780 unscrew the nut (1) and take off washer
(2), pull out front arm. (3) and rotate it 180°. Rotate left (4) and right arm (5) 180° and switch
their places (Fig. 16),

In rotary rake Z2-840 for turf meadows it is possible to increase the distance between raking
tines from the ground by mounting the driving trolley's wheel arms in a different way. For this lift
up the driving trolley and secure against an uncontrolled fall. Unscrew nuts (1), remove washers
(2), and then draw out the arm of front wheels (3) and insert the locking pin (4) into lower sleeve
(5). Trolley's pin (6) should be located in upper sleeve (7). Left (8) and right (9) arm to be switched
analogically (Fig. 17).

 turn on tractor’s PTO and work with medium rpm e.g. 300÷350 rpm. Long work with nominal
540 rpm. will cause premature wear of gearbox,
 engage tractor gear and drive slowly into the swath. Working speed is a resultant of clean
raking.

CAUTION:
Working with one rake is possible only after PTO shaft of the second rake is
dismounted.
5.7. Working width adjustment mechanism

Rake’s regulation of working width is done by hydraulic cylinders on each working unit.

CAUTION:
Manual regulation of rake’s working width (arms lifted up). Hydraulic
extension can be done in transport as well as on headlands (Fig. 26).
5.8. Operation
Rotary rake is designed for raking forage, dry forage and hay after rotary rake treatment.
Speed should be adjusted to terrain conditions, swath size and cleanliness of raking.
