Important information
The installation must comply with the current standards and regulations in force in the country in which the product is being
installed.
Failure to follow these installation instructions may result in serious injury or damage to the equipment. Somfy shall not
be held liable in this event.
If installed and used correctly, the motorisation system conforms to the required safety standards. It is recommended that
these rules of conduct be respected to prevent the risk of danger or accidents.
Any use outside the scope of application dened by Somfy is forbidden. Any incorrect use will invalidate the
warranty and Somfy's liability.
Installation environment
To be able to access the motors and unlock them in the event of a fault, additional access must be provided within the
property.
The position in which the motorisation mechanism will be tted must allow for safe and easy manual release of the
product.
The product must not be installed in an explosive environment (presence of gas, ammable fumes).
Condition of the product to be motorised
Do not motorise a product which is in bad condition or incorrectly installed.
Before installing the motor, ensure that the driven part is in good mechanical condition, that it is correctly balanced and
that it opens and closes correctly.
Check that:
• the mountings for the product are in good condition
• the product is not equipped with a manual or electric locking system
• the points where the motorisation will be attached are sturdy and in perfect condition. Otherwise, masonry work will
have to be carried out to embed the motors in accordance with the measurements given.
Specications of the gate to be motorised
The motor cannot be used with a driven part incorporating a small gate (unless the motor is inhibited when the small
gate is in the safety position).
Check that this automatic control system is suitable for your type of product and for its dimensions. Otherwise, the
automatic control system cannot be installed unless modications are made to the structure.
This automatic control system has been designed to motorise residential double door gates.
With solid gates, and in windy conditions, the automatic control system cannot operate correctly.
For more detailed information on the types of gates which can be motorised, refer to the table below.

All connections must be made with the power off and the battery disconnected.
Do not connect to a power source (mains, battery or solar) before installation is complete.
Ensure that any danger zones (crushing, cutting, trapping) between the driven part and the surrounding xed
elements caused by the opening movement of the driven part are avoided or indicated on the installation (see the
section on risk prevention).
Modifying one of the elements provided in this kit or using an additional element not recommended in the installation
guide for the motorisation is strictly prohibited.
During installation, particularly when setting the motorisation, it is crucial to ensure that no-one is in the product's
movement zone both at the start of and during the setting operation.
Do not use adhesive to secure the motorisation.
Ensure you can see the product when it is in movement.
Be careful when handling the motorisation to prevent any risk of injury.
Manual unlocking may result in uncontrolled movement of the product.
The control devices must be moved away from the moving parts and installed at a minimum height of 1.5 m.
After installation, ensure that the mechanism is correctly adjusted and that the protection system and any manual
release mechanism operate correctly.
Permanently afx the label concerning the manual back release device near to its mobile component.
If the installation does not correspond to one of the scenarios described in this guide, it is crucial to contact us so
that we can provide all the elements required to ensure correct installation with no risk of damage.
Safety devices
The use of any safety accessories not validated by Somfy is prohibited.
For gate and garage door motorisations, the cells and the orange light are mandatory for operation in automatic
mode and out of sight of the automated product. The orange light must be visible from both inside and outside the
property.
As stated in EN 12453, which relates to the safe use of motorised doors and gates, the use of a TAHOMA/Somfy
Box unit for controlling an automatic garage door or gate control system, where the user cannot be seen, requires
the mandatory installation of a photoelectric cell type safety device on this automatic control system.
The correct operation of the photoelectric cells must be checked every 6 months.
Clothing precautions
Take off your jewellery (bracelet, chain, etc.) during installation.
For drilling and welding operations, wear special glasses and appropriate protection (gloves, ear protection).
SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS RELATING TO INSTALLATION
230V power supply input (not required for a solar power supply)
The installation of the power supply must comply with the standards in force in the country where the product is
installed (NF C 15-100 for France) and must be carried out by qualied personnel whenever possible.
Use a 3 x 1.5 mm² cable, of a maximum length of 300 m. If the installation requires the cable to be longer than
300 m, use a solar power supply.
The electrical line must be:
• used solely for the motorisation.
• tted with protection: – a 10 A fuse or breaker,
– a differential type device (30 mA).
An all-pole supply cut-off device must be provided.
Provide a connection to earth when class 1 peripheral devices are connected (zone lighting).
It is recommended that you t a lightning conductor (maximum residual voltage 2 kV).
Cable feed
If you intend to bury the cables, use a protective sheath with a sufcient diameter to feed the motor cable and the
cables for the accessories that you wish to install.
If a cable conduit cannot be made between the pillars, use a cable grommet which will withstand the passage of
vehicles (ref. 2400484).

CAUTION: the motorisation must be disconnected from its power supply during cleaning and maintenance and
when parts are replaced.
The instructions given in this guide must be read carefully before any work is carried out on the motorisation.
Check the installation frequently to detect any imbalance or signs of wear or damage to the cables or springs or
to the tting. Do not use the device if it needs repairing or adjusting. Motorised products in poor condition must
be repaired, reinforced or even replaced. Check that the various motorisation component's screws and ttings
are correctly tightened.
Only use original parts for maintenance or repair work.
Any technical, electronic or mechanical alteration to the motorisation must be carried out with the agreement of
our technical department; otherwise, the warranty will be immediately invalidated and safety will no longer be
guaranteed.
Never clean the motorisation system with high pressure water cleaning equipment.
Have the motorisation checked every year by a qualied technician.
Contact Somfy assistance for any direct intervention on the motorisation.
If the installation is equipped with photoelectric cells and/or an orange light, regularly clean the photoelectric cell
optical units and the orange light. Ensure that no branches or shrubs are obscuring the photoelectric cells.
This device may be used by children aged 8 and over and by persons whose physical, sensory or mental capacity
is impaired, or persons with little experience or knowledge, as long as they are under supervision or have received
instructions on safe use of the device and fully understand the associated risks. Children must not be allowed to
play with the device. The cleaning and maintenance operations performed by the user must not be carried out by
unsupervised children.
The A-weighted sound pressure level of the motorisation is 70 dB(A) or below. The noise emitted by the structure
to which the motorisation will be connected is not taken into account.
Any potential user must be instructed on the use of the automatic control system, by reading the guide supplied
with the automatic control system. It is essential to ensure that no untrained persons (including children) are able
to put the product into motion.
The opening and closing control must always be activated with a clear view of the motorised product
Before starting to move the motorised product, check that no-one is within the motorised product's movement zone.
Monitor the movement of the motorised product and ensure no-one comes near until the movement has come to
an end.
Do not allow children to play with the xed control devices. Remote controls must be placed out of the reach of
children. Children should be supervised to ensure they do not play with the motorisation or close to the motorisation.
When using a non-locking switch, ensure that other people keep well away.
Do not deliberately obstruct the movement of the motorised product.
If not operating correctly, switch off the power supply, use emergency unlocking to gain access and contact Somfy
assistance.
Do not attempt to manually open the motorised product if the motorisation has not been unlocked. Activating the
manual back release system could cause uncontrolled movement of the driven part due to mechanical faults or a
loss of balance.
Do not modify the motorisation components.
Ensure that no natural obstacles (branch, stone, tall grasses, etc.) are able to obstruct the movement of the
motorised product.
About the batteries
Do not leave batteries of any kind within reach of children. Keep them somewhere children cannot access. There
is a risk that they could be swallowed by children or pets. Danger of death! If this does occur, seek medical advice
immediately or go to hospital.
Ensure that the batteries are not short-circuited, thrown in the re or recharged. There is a risk of explosion.

Protection of the environment
This automatic gate control system and its packaging are formed of different materials, some of which must be
recycled and some disposed of.
None of the elements must be dumped in unauthorised areas or thrown away with domestic waste.
The dismantling of the various elements of kit, to separate the different materials, must be performed by qualied
personnel.
The elements must be sorted by type: Batteries/Circuit boards/Plastics/Scrap iron/Card and paper/Other
The sorted elements must be handed over to a certied recycling company and the other materials taken to a waste
disposal site.
Recycling
Never dispose of used batteries with household waste. It is your responsibility to dispose of your electronic
equipment at the relevant recycling points.
Do not dispose of your device with household waste at the end of its life. The hazardous substances that
it may contain could pose a risk to health and the environment. Ensure that your distributor takes back the
device or use the separate collection services provided by your local authority.
Despite the care taken in the design of our products and the creation of our guides, you may encounter difculties
during the installation of your automatic control device or have some unanswered questions.

Reinforcements
The motors must be secured to the horizontal reinforcements for the gate leaves.
These reinforcements must ideally be placed 1/3 of the way up the gate.
If there are no reinforcements, provide metal reinforcement plates approximately
4 mm thick.

Closing end stops
Stops fixed securely to the ground should stop the travel of the gate leaves when
closing.
The opening stops are integrated into the motor (see page 19).
Mechanical lock
If your gate is equipped with a mechanical lock, it must be removed.
Pillars
The pillars must have a robust structure and be at least 21 cm wide. If not, improvements may have to be made to your pillar to
guarantee correct installation and to ensure that the bracket holds in place.
It is not recommended to mount the bracket level with the pillar: risk of spalling.

Fit a 230 V electrical input with a 3 x 1.5 mm² cable to one of the pillars, as close as possible to where the control unit is located.
• For the cell cables, route a sheath across each pillar.

Drilling the pillars
Taking dimensions
Take the dimensions using the disc (6) to determine the position of the motors on the pillars.
Note: For these measurements, the gate leaves and their hinge pins are assumed to be on the same axis.
N.B.: you must leave a minimum distance of 50 cm between the gate leaves and the fixed sections (see page 6).

The direction of fitting (E or e) for the bracket for mounting
the cylinder on the pillar.

Specific case: dimension A is negative
If dimension A is negative, the gate leaf hinge is located in
front of the pillar. Add a shim so that the cylinder mounting
bracket is aligned with the gate leaf hinge and A is 0 cm.

Transfer the dimension B onto the pillar using the hinge axis
and mark a vertical axis AM on the pillar.
Mark the horizontal axis AH on the pillar, halfway up the
reinforcement.

Drilling the pillars
Drill 3 holes in each pillar at the marked locations (see page 9 for the
drilling diameter corresponding to suitable hardware).
Check that the bracket is horizontal, then mark the mounting holes for
the bracket.
Align the markers made on the bracket with the AH axis and align the
edge of the bracket with the AM axis.
Note: The markers marked on the bracket are underneath the oblong
holes.

Securing the motors to the pillars
Securing the pillar mounting bracket
Check that the bracket is at the right level. Retighten if necessary.
Secure the mounting bracket to the pillar with hardware adapted to the
mounting support.

Immobilise it with the pin (10).

In the closed position, the gate leaves must
be firmly against the ground stop and the
cylinder against its internal stop.
Securing the motors to the gate leaves
Secure the unlocking mechanism (8) on the gate leaf
mounting bracket (5) using the screw (9).
Fit the cylinder on the gate leaf mounting bracket.
Clip the unlocking mechanism on the cylinder catch to
secure it.
Close the gate.

Never operate the cylinder before correctly mounting it on the gate leaf. If this happens, the internal end stop setting will
be incorrect and malfunctions could occur.
The cylinders are supplied (default factory setting) on their internal closing end stop.
To ensure correct operation of the
unlocking mechanism, the direction of
fitting shown opposite must be respected.
Do not fit the screw from below.

Unclip the unlocking mechanism, then remove the cylinder from the
gate leaf mounting bracket.

Push the gate leaf mounting bracket against the gate leaf
reinforcement.
Check that the cylinder is horizontal.

Drill a hole in the gate leaves with a diameter of 8.
Install the cylinder.
Clip the unlocking mechanism on the catch to secure it.
Reposition the gate leaf mounting bracket then mark the mounting
holes in the centre of the oblong holes.

The third mounting hole must only be drilled after self-
learning of the gate leaf travel.
The washers (11) provided must be fitted.

Have you checked that the cylinders are perfectly horizontal?
Secure the gate leaf mounting bracket to the two points on the gate
leaves using screws suited to the reinforcement material and the
washers (11) supplied.

Installing the control unit
Positioning the control unit on the pillar/wall
The unit should be mounted next to the power supply input.
Fitting the sealing strip
Fit the sealing strip (13) inside the top of the control unit.
Securing the control unit to the pillar
Position the unit mounting bracket (17) against the pillar/wall.
Check it is horizontal by placing a spirit level in the space provided.
Remove the bracket and drill the pillar/wall.
The drilling diameter is to be defined based on the type of screws
used for mounting (see page 9).
Position the base of the unit to mark the 2 mounting points at the
bottom of the unit.
Mark the mounting points for the bracket.
Secure the bracket to the pillar/wall.
