1About this product
The Universal Lockers product by Steelcase is
subject to continuous quality control during
manufacture and distribution. This ensures fault-
free functioning.
The product is designed according to the state of
the art (in Germany at the time of construction)
and recognised safety rules and manufactured in
Spain. However, hazards can still arise. Please
follow the respective safety instructions.
Malfunctions that affect safety must be resolved
immediately. We reserve the right to make
technical changes to the products for technical
reasons.
Steelcase applies a quality management system
that meets the requirements of DIN EN ISO 9001.
Steelcase carries the eco-audit seal of the “Eco
Management and Audit Scheme”.
1.1 Intended use
The Universal Lockers product is exclusively
designed to be used as office furniture. Any other
use or extended use is regarded as improper use.
Intended use also includes following all
instructions in the user manual.
1.1.1 Foreseeable misuse
Improper use of the product may result in dangers
to life and limb as well as property damage. For this
reason, improper use is prohibited. In case of
improper use, Steelcase assumes no liability for any
damage that may occur and does not guarantee
that the components will function properly.
Improper use includes:
■Placing objects with a total weight of more than
20 kg on W400 shelf, or 64 kg on W1200 shelf,
or 10 kg in drawer.
■Outdoor use
■Use in damp rooms
The list does not claim to be exhaustive.
1.1.2 Users with limitations
Children from the age of 8 and individuals with
reduced physical, sensory or mental abilities or lack
of experience and knowledge may use the
Universal Lockers product:
■under supervision;
■after instructions in safe use;
■when they recognise and understand the
potentially dangerous situations.
Children must not play with the Universal
Lockers product
or its parts.
Children are not to perform cleaning or
user's maintenance tasks.

2.1 Safety instructions
You may only use the Universal Lockers product
in a technically perfect condition and in compliance
with the User Manual.
The user of the Universal Lockers product
undertakes to follow the safety instructions and
warnings in this user manual.
In addition to the user manual, the general and
local regulations on accident prevention and
environmental protection must be made available
by the owner and followed.
2.2 Safety instructions and
warnings
To prevent personal injury and damage to property,
this user manual contains warnings at the
appropriate locations. The symbols and signal
words have the following meaning:

The Universal Lockers product is used for
storage of personal items in an office environment.
It is available in several models, sizes and surface
finishes.
3.1 Technical data

Lockers product.
3.2 Components
The Universal Lockers product consists of the
following key components (a description of the
variants can be found under
3.4 Variant types ):
■Body structure of 0.75-mm thick sheet metal
■Metal doors and drawers (0.75-mm thick sheet
metal; total thickness: 19mm); doors and
drawers made of 19-mm thick melamine-coated
plywood
■Rear panels either melamine-coated or of fabric
(400x400mm squares); completely covering
rear panel either melamine-coated, fabric or
pinnable rear panel
■Frame for 4-binder height (BH) units of 25-mm
thick melamine-coated plywood
■Metal whiteboard
■Handles (wardrobe only) of GM1 Zamak, GM7
metal, painted GM8 metal alloy and TM metal
Keyfree locks:
■Mechanical code lock/Lock with key: A
separate master key is required for opening the
door(s) in an emergency.
■Electronic lock: A separate programming
key/code plus a master key are required for the
initialisation process and for opening the
door(s) in an emergency.
–Two premium AAA batteries (2-year life
cycle) are required for an electronic lock.
■RFID lock: A separate programming key/code
plus a master key are required for the
initialisation process and for opening the
door(s) in an emergency.
–A compatible RFID card is required to be
able to use the lock.
–Four premium AA batteries (2-year life
cycle) are required for an RFID lock.
All (additional) available components are specified
in the separate technical description and in the
price list.

4.1 Safety instructions
Risk of injury and damage!
The fastening screws may tear if the
assembled Universal Lockers product is
lifted.

Exercise due caution when transporting
or moving the Universal Lockers
product.
4.2 Interim storage
If you want to store the Universal Lockers product
temporarily before installation, the following
conditions must be met:
■Undamaged transport packaging
■Sufficient carrying capacity of the floor
■Dry floor
■Level floor surface
■Temperature range: +5 °C to +40 °C
■Max. rel. humidity: 90 %
4.3 Checking the delivery
contents
After unpacking, check the product immediately for
transport damage and completeness; if applicable,
inform the manufacturer as soon as possible of any
damage.
4.4 Disposing of the packaging
material
The packaging includes the following:
■Outer packaging made of cardboard
■Bubble wrap made of polyethylene (PE)
■Edge protectors made of cardboard or
polyethylene (PE)
■Corner protectors made of polyethylene (PE)
These materials are recyclable. If assembled by
Steelcase or an assembly company authorised by
Steelcase, the manufacturer will dispose of the
packaging. If you assemble the product yourself,
ensure that the packaging material is correctly
sorted by type and recycled.
4.5 Assembling the Universal
Lockers product and
accessories
For assembling the Universal Lockers product
and its accessories, please follow the attached
assembly instructions.
Steelcase recomme

specialist dealer or an assembly company.
4.6 Disassembling the
Universal Lockers product
The Universal Lockers product can be
disassembled. Disassembly should be carried out by
qualified personnel. Please follow the separate
recycling and disassembly instructions.
Before disassembling the product:
Remove all objects from or on the Universal
Lockers product.
Remove all accessory parts from or on the
Universal Lockers product.
If you want to disassemble the Universal
Lockers product for good and dispose of
it, follow the instructions under

Disposal.

5.1 Safety instructions
The Universal Lockers product should only be
used and operated in faultless condition and in
compliance with the instructions in the operating
manual.
Prior to storing objects in the Universal Lockers
product:
■Ensure that the Universal Lockers product has
been assembled in accordance with the
provided assembly instructions.
■Ensure that the maximum permissible load-
bearing capacity of the Universal Lockers
product is not exceeded.
Risk of injury and damage.
When loading the assembled Universal
Lockers product or its accessories with a
weight higher than the approved weight,
the fastening screws may tear.

Comply with the permissible weight.
CAUTION
Possible damage to the

Lockers product.

Check that the Universal
Lockers product has been
properly assembled and
mounted.

6.3.2 Cleaning and care
CAUTION
Aggressive cleaning agents may cause
product damage or discolouration.

Only use polishing and cleaning
agents that are suitable for the
respective materials (wood, plastics,
metals, etc.).
Remove dust and dirt from the Universal
Lockers product and installed accessories
periodically.
Check the Universal Lockers product and
installed accessories for damage and cracks at
regular intervals.

Disassembly should be carried out by qualified
personnel.
If you want to remove and dispose of the
Universal Lockers product permanently, proceed
as follows:
Disassemble the Universal Lockers product.
Sort the dismantled parts by
–reusable components
–material groups to be disposed of (wood,
metal, plastics, electrical parts, etc.)
and return them to the recycling process. Follow all
applicable regional regulations. Also follow the
instructions for disassembling / recycling.

Unsachgemäße Instandhaltung, Instandhaltung durch Dritte sowie
Instandhaltung durch nicht qualifiziertes Fachpersonal.
Mangelhafte Überwachung der Produktkomponenten
(Funktionskontrollen).
Unsachgemäße Entsorgung und Rückführung des Produktes oder
der Verpackung in den Wertstoffkreislauf.
Weiterverkauf an Dritte, wenn diesem/diesen die Betriebsanleitung
nicht mitgeliefert wird.
Katastrophenfälle durch Fremdkörpereinwirkung und höhere Gewalt.
Bei umfangreichen Montage-, Wartungs- und Entsorgungstätig-
keiten ist unbedingt qualifiziertes Fachpersonal heranzuziehen.

Das Produkt Universal Lockers von Steelcase
unterliegt in ihrer Fertigung und in ihrem Vertrieb
einer ständigen Qualitätskontrolle. Somit wird die
fehlerfreie Funktionalität gewährleistet.
Das Produkt ist nach dem Stand der Technik (in
Deutschland zum Zeitpunkt der Konstruktion) und
den anerkannten sicherheitstechnischen Regeln
konstruiert worden und wird in Spanien gefertigt.
Trotzdem können Gefahren entstehen. Beachten
Sie hierzu die jeweiligen Sicherheitshinweise!
Störungen, die die Sicherheit beeinträchtigen, sind
umgehend zu beseitigen. Änderungen an den
Produkten aus technischen Gründen behalten wir
uns vor.
Steelcase wendet ein Qualitätsmanagement-System
an, das die Forderungen der DIN EN ISO 9001
erfüllt.
Steelcase führt das Öko-Audit-Siegel für das „EG-
System für Umweltmanagement und
Umweltbetriebsführung“.
1.1 Bestimmungsgemäße
Verwendung
Das Produkt Universal Lockers ist ausschließlich
für den Einsatz als Büromöbel konzipiert. Eine
andere oder darüberhinausgehende Benutzung gilt
als nicht bestimmungsgemäß.
Zur bestimmungsgemäßen Verwendung
gehört auch das Beachten aller Hin
weise
aus der
Bedienungsanleitung!
1.1.1 Vorhersehbarer Fehlgebrauch
Wird das Produkt nicht bestimmungsgemäß
verwendet, können sowohl Gefahren für Leib und
Leben als auch Sachbeschädigungen auftreten. Aus
diesem Grunde ist eine bestimmungswidrige
Verwendung untersagt. Bei nicht
bestimmungsgemäßer Verwendung übernimmt
Steelcase keine Haftung für eventuell auftretende

Beachtung der Bedienungsanleitung benutzt und
bedient werden.
Der Benutzer des Produktes Universal Lockers
verpflichtet sich, die Sicherheitsvorschriften und
Warnhinweise in dieser Bedienungsanleitung stets
zu beachten.
Ergänzend zur Bedienungsanleitung sind die
allgemeingültigen sowie die örtlichen Regelungen
zur Unfallverhütung und zum Umweltschutz vom
Besitzer bereitzustellen und zu beachten.

Das Produkt Universal Lockers dient als
persönlicher Stauraum und findet in einem Büro-
Arbeitsumfeld Verwendung. Es ist in mehreren
Modellen, Größen und Oberflächenausführungen
erhältlich.

19mm stark)
■Rückwände aus Melamin- oder Textil Kacheln
(400x400mm große Quadrate); komplett
abdeckende Melamin-Rückwand, Stoff-

■Rahmen für 4OH-Einheiten aus
melaminbeschichteten Spanplatte, 25mm stark
■White-Board aus Metall
■Griffe (nur für Garderobe) aus GM1 Zamak,

Schlüsselfreie Schlösser:
■Mechanisches Zahlenschloss/Schloss mit
Schlüssel: Ein separater Master-Schlüssel ist
für Notfall-Öffnungen erforderlich.
■Zahlenschloss mit Tastatur: Ein separater
Programmier-Schlüssel plus Master-Schlüssel
sind für das initialisieren und für die Notfall-
Öffnung erforderlich.
–Das Zahlenschloss mit Tastatur benötigt
zwei premium AAA-Batterien (ungefähr 2-
Jahre Laufzeit).
■RFID-Schloss: Ein separater Programmier-
Schlüssel plus Master-Schlüssel sind für das
initialisieren und für die Notfall-Öffnung
erforderlich.
–Für den Betrieb des Schlosses ist eine
kompatible RFID-Karte notwendig.
–Das RFID-Schloss benötigt vier premium
AA-Batterien (ungefähr 2-Jahre Laufzeit).

4.1 Sicherheitsvorschriften

Universal Lockers diesen vorsichtig
handhaben.
4.2 Zwischenlagerung
Soll der Universal Locker vor dem Aufstellen
zwischengelagert werden, sind folgende
Bedingungen zu erfüllen:
■Unverletzte Transportverpackung
■Ausreichende Tragfähigkeit des Bodens
■Trockener Boden
■Ebene Abstellfläche
■Temperaturbereich +5 °C bis +40 °C
■Max. rel. Luftfeuchtigkeit 90 %
4.3 Lieferung prüfen
Nach dem Auspacken ist das Produkt sofort auf
Transportschäden und auf Vollständigkeit zu
überprüfen und ggf. ein Schaden dem Hersteller
schnellstmöglich zu melden.
4.4 Verpackungsmaterial
entsorgen
Die Verpackung besteht aus folgenden Materialien:
■Umverpackung aus Karton
■Bläschenfolie aus Polyethylen (PE)
■Kantenschützer aus Karton oder Polyethylen
(PE)
■Eckenschützer aus Polyethylen (PE)
Diese Materialien sind recyclingfähig. Bei Montage
durch Steelcase oder eines durch Steelcase
autorisierten Montageunternehmens wird die
Verpackung durch den Hersteller entsorgt. Sollten
Sie selbst montieren, so sorgen Sie für sortenreine
Trennung und Rückführung in den
Wertstoffkreislauf.
4.5 Universal Lockers und
Zubehör montieren
Für die Montage des Universal Lockers und
dessen Zubehör beachten Sie bitte die beigefügte
Montageanleitung.
Steelcase empfiehlt, die Montage durch
den Fachhandel bzw. durch ein
Montageunternehmen durchführen zu
lassen.
4.6 Universal Lockers
demontieren
Das Produkt Universal Lockers kann demontiert
werden. Die Demontage soll von hierzu
qualifiziertem Fachpersonal durchgeführt werden.

Demontageanleitung.
Bevor Sie den Universal Locker demontieren:
