SQUARE DRIVE
1. Remove shoulder screw and nut from each
flip top mechanism assembly.
2.If the control lever cable assembly is not
mounted to the flip top mechanism assembly:
Insert cable end through cable bracket hole (2a).
Grasp cable bracket and pull it toward you to compress
springs (2b). Slide cable end into slot in cable bracket (2c).
Repeat steps 2a to 2c on opposite leg.

3. Place each plate onto underside of worksurface and
align with pilot holes (3a). Attach each plate to worksurface
by first fastening two (2) #10 x 1-1/16” wood screws into the
pilot holes (3b). Insert ten (10) #10 x 1-1/16” wood screws
into remaining holes (3c).
NOTE: Protect top surface from scratches while working.

4. Place each control lever bracket onto underside of
worksurface and align with pilot holes (4a). Mount each
bracket with two (2) #10 x 1-1/16” wood screws (4b). On 24” x 36”
table, cross control lever cables over each other (4c).

mounting plates and control levers is critical to
the safe functioning of the table.

5. Place your fingers behind the cable bracket, as shown,
and pull toward you (5a). Place leg assembly with (4) holes
facing inboard, into opening in center of plate (5b). With leg
assembly at an angle (5c), tap it in place with a mallet and
line up rearward mounting holes (opposite the control levers).
Insert shoulder screw (5d) and tap all the way in with mallet.
Secure nut (5e) to shoulder screw and torque screw to 150±5 in-lbs.
NOTE: When securing nut, be
careful not to put pressure on
the control lever cable end.
Too much pressure could
cause cable connector to break.

6. Rotate leg assembly into vertical position and verify
engagement of locking pins.
7. Remove the paper backing from bumper (7a)
and place onto plate toward rear of table, opposite the
control lever (7b). Repeat procedure for other leg.

8. Position linkage bar between the two rear leg tubes (opposite the
control levers), and lower bar to rest on underside of worksurface (8a).
NOTE: Some of the linkage bars for 30” deep tables are very close in
length to linkage bars for 24” deep tables. To distinguish them from each
other, linkage bars for 30” deep tables have a 1/4” Ø identification
hole at each end (8b).
9. To create LH clamp assembly, orient LH clamp bracket and threaded
clamp plate so that the 45° edges and holes on both parts are aligned (9a).
Insert two (2) 3/8-16 x 1/2” socket head cap screws through double holes
in LH clamp bracket and loosely fasten clamp bracket to clamp plate. Leave
about 1/4” gap between clamp bracket and clamp plate (9b). Repeat step 9
to create RH clamp assembly.
NOTE: Clamp brackets are handed. Threaded clamp plates are non-handed.

10. For all table sizes except 24” x 36”, slide 4” x 4” x 1/16” cardboard spacer
under each bend in linkage bar. One spacer is required on 24” x 42” and 30” x 36”
tables (10a); two are required on longer tables (10b).
NOTE: 1/16” thick spacers are provided as an assembly aid to offset linkage bar
from worksurface. The offset helps prevent damage to linkage bar finish when
folding and unfolding table.
11. For 24” x 42” and 30” x 36” tables (these two sizes have single bend in
linkage bar), adjust both ends of linkage bar to approx. 10” from underside of worksurface.
12. For 24” x 36” table, lift linkage bar and place 4” x 4” x 2-1/2” cardboard spacer in
approx. center of worksurface (12a). Lower linkage bar onto spacer and adjust both
ends of linkage bar to approx. 9-3/4” from underside of worksurface (12b).
NOTE: 2-1/2” thick spacer is provided as an assembly aid to offset linkage bar from
worksurface. The offset is required to provide clearance to leg base plate when table is
folded (12c). Damage to linkage bar could occur if it contacts the plate.
NOTE: Spacers should not be removed until table assembly is complete (see pg. 8).

13. Visually line up single hole and 45° edges in clamp assembly,
with hole and 45° bend in linkage bar (13a). With threaded clamp plate
facing side edge of table, slide clamp assembly over front leg tube (13b).
Rotate clamp assembly 90° (13c) so that threaded clamp plate faces
rear edge of table (13d).
NOTE: Damage to leg finish could occur if clamp assembly rubs
against leg during installation.

14. Insert a 3/8-16 x 1-3/4" socket head cap screw through holes in clamp
bracket and linkage bar, and loosely fasten to threaded clamp plate.
15. Repeat steps 13 &14 on opposite leg. If holes don’t line up in step 14
push legs inboard.
16. Tighten all six (6) socket head cap screws in both clamps.
When properly fastened, screw threads will be fully engaged into
threads in clamp plate.
17. Using power drive
18. Remove cardboard spacers.
r, install #12-14 x 3/4" hex head self-drilling tapping
screw into leg tube through small hole in clamp bracket, on both legs.

19. Affix Pinch-Point Caution Label (19a) and Caution & Info
Label (19b) to underside of worksurface in locations shown,
with text upright as shown (text should be readable when table
is folded).
Note: If the Caution & Info Label (19b) becomes damaged or
unreadable, contact Steelcase immediately for a replacement label.
20. If worksurface is 66” or longer (see chart below):
Position brace in location shown, centered between the legs
(20a). Fasten the brace to the worksurface, starting at the
middle and working outward towards the ends, with the
#10 x 7/8” wood screws provided (20b).

21. With (2) people lifting table, carefully return it to upright
position. To verify proper table operation, do the following:

a. To fold table into vertical position, push front edge of
worksurface down while pulling control levers to unlock.
b. Lift worksurface up.
c. To unfold table into horizontal position, pull control
levers to unlock (you may need to shake table to loosen
locking pins out of holes), and pull down worksurface.
d. Push down on front edge of worksurface to lock.
Repeat steps 21a to 21c two more times to ensure that
table functions properly.
22. Perform the following final check:
a. While table is in user position (horizontal), push down
on rear of table carefully to make sure table is locked.
b. If table unlocks, review this document to ensure that
all steps were followed. Contact Steelcase immediately
if troubleshooting effort fails. 21d
