1. General warning
1. Before using the stopfor™and to ensure safe,
efficient use of this equipment, it is essential that
the user be properly trained in the use of this
equipment and has read and understood the
information given in the manual supplied by
TRACTEL SAS. This manual should be available
at all times to all operators. Additional copies can
be supplied on request.
2. Before use, it is essential that operators are
trained in the use of this safety device. Check the
state of associated equipment and make sure that
the clearance is sufficient.
3. The stopfor™ fall arrest device must only be used
by trained and skilled personal, or under the
supervision of trained and skilled personal.
4. If a stopfor™ fall arrest device is not in good
condition or has been used to stop a fall, all
equipment must be checked by TRACTEL SAS or
by an authorised and competent technician who
must authorise in writing the reuse of the system.
A visual inspection before each use is
recommended.
5. Any modification or addition made to the
equipment cannot be done without prior written
approval from TRACTEL SAS. The equipment
must be transported and stored in its original
packaging.
6. Any stopfor™ fall arrest device that has not been
periodically examined in the last twelve months or
has stopped a fall must not be used. It may only
be used again after a new periodic examination
by an authorised and competent technician who
will authorise its use in writing. If these tests and
authorisations are not carried out, the stopfor™
fall arrest system must be destroyed.
7. The maximum working load for this equipment is
150 kg.
8. If the weight of the operator increased by the
weight of their equipment and tools is between
100 kg and 150 kg, you must ensure that the total
weight (operator + equipment + tools) does not
exceed the maximum working load of each of the
components of the fall-arrest system.
9. This equipment is suitable for use on site in the
open air and for a temperature range between -30
°C and +60 °C. Avoid contact with sharp edges,
abrasive surfaces, chemicals.
10. If you are responsible for assigning this
equipment to an employee or similar person,
ensure that you comply with the applicable health
and safety at work regulations.
11. The operator must be physically and mentally fit
when using this equipment. In case of doubt,
check with one’s private doctor or with the works
doctor. It is forbidden to be used by pregnant
women.
12. This equipment should not be used beyond its
limits or in any other situation other than what it
has been designed for: see "4. Functions and
description".
13. It is recommended that this equipment is
personally allocated to each operator, especially if
this is an employee.
14. Before using an EN 363 fall-arrester device, the
user must ensure that each of the components is
in good working conditions: security system,
locking system. When setting up, it is essential to
ensure that no deterioration of the safety
functions occurs.
15. In a fall arrest system, it is essential to check the
clear space under the operator at the workplace
before each use, so that in the event of a fall
there is no risk of collision with the ground or
presence of an obstacle on the path of the fall.
16. A fall arrest harness is the only body gripping
device that is permitted to be used in a fall arrest
system.
17. It is essential for the safety of the operator that
the device or anchoring point is correctly
positioned and that work is carried out so as to
minimise the risk of falls from height.
18. For the safety of the operator, if this equipment is
sold outside the first country of destination, the
distributor should supply: an instructions manual,
instructions for maintenance, for periodic
inspections and repairs, all compiled in the
language of the country of use.
19. Each stopfor™ fall arrest device must be mounted
exclusively on a Tractel® flexible anchorage
system sold for the corresponding model of
stopfor™. Failure to comply with this requirement
may endanger the life of the operator. It is the
responsibility of the user or his employer to identify
the anchorage systems in his stock in order to
avoid any errors in this regard.
20. Tractel® requires the use of the Tractel® belay
system and declines all responsibility for the use
of a stopfor™ fall arrest system with a belay
system other than the original Tractel® system
and the model indicated for the corresponding
model of stopfor™. Similarly, Tractel® cannot
guarantee a fall arrest system only to the extent
that it is composed exclusively of components
marketed, maintained, assembled and installed

in accordance with applicable safety rules and
standards.
21. stopfor™ fall arresters must be used on a vertical
anchorage system or with a maximum angle of
30° or a maximum displacement of 3 m with
respect to the vertical (see fig. 6.2). They can be
used in a horizontal position to work on a flat roof,
deviating no more than 1.50 m from the
perpendicular to the edge (see fig. 6.1).
2. Definitions and pictograms
2.1. Definitions of the terms
"Supervisor": Person or department responsible for
the management and safety of use of the product
described in the manual.
"Technician": Qualified person in charge of the
maintenance operations described and authorised by
the user manual, who is competent and familiar with
the product.
"Operator": Operational person involved in the use
of the product as it is intended to be used.
"PPE": Personal protective equipment against falls
from height.
"Connector": Connection element between
components of a fall-arrest system. This is EN 362
compliant.
"Fall arrest harness": Body harness designed to
arrest falls. It consists of straps and buckles. It
features fall-arrest attachment points marked with an
A if they can be used alone, or marked with A/2 if
they are to be used in combination with another A/2
point. This is EN 361 compliant.
"Fall-arrester including a flexible anchor line":
Subsystem consisting of a flexible anchor line (rope),
a guided-type fall arrester with an automatic blocking
system that is secured to the flexible anchor line, and
a connector or a line terminated by a connector.
"Maximum working load": Maximum weight of the
operator, equipped with the correct PPE, workwear,
tools and the parts they need to perform the task at
hand.

“Fall-arrester system”: Set composed of the
following items:
–– Fall-arrest harness.
–– Self-retracting fall-arrester, or energy shock
absorber, or mobile fall prevention device with rigid
anchoring supports, or mobile fall prevention device
with flexible anchoring supports.
–– Anchoring.
–– Linking component.
"Fall arrest system component": Generic term
defining one of the following:
–Fall arrest harness.
–Self-retracting fall-arrester, or energy shock
absorber, or mobile fall prevention device with
rigid anchoring supports, or mobile fall prevention
device with flexible anchoring supports.
–Anchoring.
–Linking component.
2.2. Pictograms
DANGER: Placed at the beginning of a
paragraph, refers to instructions to avoid injury to
persons, including death, serious or minor injuries,
and damage to the environment.
IMPORTANT: Placed at the beginning of a
paragraph, refers to instructions for avoiding a failure
or damage to equipment, but those not directly
endangering the life or health of the operator or that
of others, and/or not likely to cause environmental
damage.

3. Operation
Checks before use:
•No deformation of the flanges.
•Visual check of the condition of the belay and
lanyard. The rope, strap, sewing threads must not
show any signs of abrasion, fraying, burns or
cuts.
•Check the locking effectiveness of the stopfor™,
mounted on its belay bracket, by pulling the
device vigorously in the opposite direction to the
arrow on its housing.
•Take the stopfor™ by its connector. Lift up to

up and then down at slow speed to check its
correct sliding.
•Check the system installation conditions (see
chapter 8: "Installation").
•Check that the stopfor™ is correctly oriented on
the belay system.
•Check the condition of the associated
components harness and connectors.
•Operator safety is related to the maintenance and
effectiveness of the equipment's resistance. In
case of doubt, immediately remove any product
from circulation.
4. Function and description
The stopfor™ is a self-holding mechanical fall arrest
device, constituting, together with the flexible
anchoring system on which it slides, a subassembly of
a fall protection system. Each model of stopfor™ is
assigned a specific belay bracket model.
Each model of stopfor™ has undergone an EU type
examination by a notified body, in association with the
appropriate belay device.
•The stopfor™ SL is an openable fall arrester that
moves along a 14 mm stranded belay rope, it
accompanies the user without requiring manual
intervention during its upward or downward
movement. Its jaw automatically locks onto the
rope when a fall occurs.
•The stopfor™ B is a new generation opening fall
arrest device that moves along a 14 mm stranded
belay rope, it accompanies the user without
requiring manual intervention during its upward or
downward movement. Its articulated cam
automatically locks onto the rope when a fall
occurs.
•The stopfor™ BF is a new generation non-opening
slide fall arrestor and is identical to stopfor™ B.
•The stopfor™ MSP is a new generation of opening
slide fall arresters. It is a variant of stopfor™ B to
which we have added:
–An anti-rotation system that prevents the
blocfor™ from being incorrectly placed on the
belay system.
–A manual locking function that allows the user to
lock the stopfor™ in the holding position at the
workstation on the rope.
•The stopfor™ K is a new generation opening slide
fall arrest device that moves along an 11 mm
halyard belay rope, it accompanies the user without
requiring manual intervention during his upward or
downward movement. Its articulated cam
automatically locks onto the halyard when a fall
occurs.
•The stopfor™ KS is a stopfor™ K equipped with an
anti-rotation system that prevents the blocfor™
from being incorrectly placed on the belay bracket.
•The stopfor™ KSP is a stopfor™ KS with a manual
locking function that allows the user to lock the
stopfor™ in the holding position at the workstation.
Horizontal use
The fall arresters stopfor™ B/BF/MSP have been
tested in horizontal use according to the European
sheet CNB/P/11.075 of September 2018 on radius
edge 0.5 mm min.
If the edge is considered sharp or if there is any burr,
take all necessary measures to prevent the operator
from falling on the edge or provide a protection on the
edge.
Before using the stopfor™ fall arrest device in
horizontal use, check that:
–The anchorage point of the stopfor™ fall arrest
device is located at the same height or above the
edge
(Figures 5.a, 5.b, 5.c).
–The angle formed by the belay device in contact
with the edge if there is a fall is at least 90°
(Figures 5.a, 5.b).
–To reduce the risk of pendulum effect, the
operator's movement is limited to a maximum
lateral movement distance perpendicular to the
edge of 1.50 m max. (See fig. 6.1). For any other
application exceeding 1.50m, a class C or D
anchor according to EN 795:2012 must be used.
–That there are no obstacles on the dip path during
a fall.
–That a specific rescue plan has been put in place if
there is a fall.
–That there is no risk of roof fragility (fibrocement
type,...). If in doubt, install a solid traffic path
compatible with the roof.
–Other cases are not included in this list. A multitude
of other scenarios exist that we cannot list or
imagine. If you have any doubts or
misunderstandings about this manual, please
contact Tractel®.

DANGER
The use of a stopfor™ on a belay system not adapted
to this model in accordance with the information in
this manual entails a risk of non-functioning of the
system that could endanger the life of the operator.

5. Operating principle
•The stopfor™ moves along a stranded belay rope,
it accompanies the operator without requiring
manual intervention during its upward or downward
movement and locks into place automatically on
the rope when a fall occurs product.
The fall protection system consists of the
components described below.

The stopfor™ can only be used exclusively with
anchoring support certified by Tractel® S.A.S.
•stopfor™ B, BF, MSP, SL
The anchoring support is a 14 mm diameter
stranded polyamide rope.
•stopfor™ K, KS, KSP
The anchoring support is a Tractel® static
halyard, made of polyamide with a diameter of 11
mm.
For all anchoring support (rope or halyard), a
sewn loop is made at one end to attach the rope
to the anchorage point. On the other hand, a
manufactured end (a knot) prevents the
unintentional release of the stopfor™ from the
anchoring support.
The breaking strength of the anchoring support is
greater than 22 kN.
The anchoring support must only be used as a
safety line in work at a height to allow safe
access to the workplace.
3. The stopfor™
NOTE: For stopfor™ BF, during maintenance
the anchoring support is delivered without
manufactured extremity. It is the operator who will
carry out this extremity in order to prevent the
stopfor™ from being unintentionally released on the
anchoring support.
•The stopfor™ SL (Fig. 3, page 2)
The jaw (I) is attached to the control lever (K) to
which the user is attached by means of a lanyard.
The stopfor™ SL automatically moves along the
belay line. The slight tension transmitted by the
user via the lanyard and allows the jaw to be
opened and the stopfor™ SL to be moved.
The flanges of stopfor™ SL are openable to allow
the installation of the belay system. To install the
stopfor™ SL on the belay system two simultaneous
actions are required to open and close the flanges,
–press the lock (D),
–screw / unscrew the knurled knob (E).
Before installing stopfor™ SL on its belay system,
check that :
–the belay bracket is in place vertically (with a
maximum permitted angle of 30° or a maximum
displacement of 3 m from the vertical),
–the belay device is connected to its upper end,
–the coded pin (N) of stopfor™ SL allows the
device to be closed on the belay
bracket,
–that the device is presented in such a way that
the arrow engraved on the flange faces
upwards.
If the user falls, the lever tilts 45° under the action
of the force applied by the lanyard and the jaw locks
the rope against the moving flange (F).
•The stopfor™ K/KS/KSP (Fig. 1, page 2) and
the stopfor™ B/BF/MSP (Fig. 2, page 2)
The stopfor™ K/KS/KSP (Fig. 2, page 2) and the
stopfor™ B/BF/MSPs move freely along the belay
system. When a fall occurs, the device tilts, which
brings the belay bracket into contact with the
upper part of the cam. The cam rotates inside the
unit and pinches the belay bracket. For stopfor™
K/KS/KSP (Fig. 2, page 2) and stopfor™ B/MSP,
the system consists of two flanges articulated
around the cam axis (Fig. 2, page 2, Q). The device
opens by rotating the movable flange (R). The cam
spring (Fig. 2, page 2, S) is used to keep the cam
under pressure on the belay bracket. When the
belay bracket is in place and the connector locks
both flanges, it is no longer possible to open the
unit; the belay bracket is then trapped in the unit.
The stopfor™ KS, KSP, MSP are equipped with an
anti-rollback system (Fig. 8, page 2, T) which
guarantees the operating direction of the stopfor™
on the anchoring support If the stopfor™ is
presented upside down facing the vertical anchoring
support, the anti-rotation system locks the jaw (Fig.
8, page 2, Q). This operation prohibits the
implementation of stopfor™ on its anchoring
support.
•The stopfor™ BF (figure 2, page 2)
The stopfor™ BFs move freely along the belay
system. When a fall occurs, the unit tilts, bringing
the

belay bracket with the upper part of the cam. The cam
rotates inside the unit and pinches the belay bracket.
For stopfor™ BF, the flange (R) is not movable, which
makes the device non-opening. The stopfor™ BF is
inseparable from the flexible belay system. For better
comfort when climbing, the belay system must be
weighted by rolling it up or by positioning a mass of
max. 1 kg in the lower part.
The stopfor™ KSP and MSP are equipped with a
locking system (Fig. 2, P) which ensures that the
stopfor™ is locked on the belay bracket. To lock the
stopfor™, tilt the brake cam (P) down.
In accordance with the requirements of CNB/P/11.080
when the stopfor™ KSP is used as a
retention/suspension at the workstation. A fall arrest
system must be used.
For better comfort when climbing, the belay system
must be weighted by rolling it up or by positioning a
mass of max. 1 kg in the lower part.
4. Length or connector (Figure 1, page 2, L)
Connector type termination:
•M10: steel connector with ring locking to eachother.
•M11: steelconnector with lockingmechanism
automatic by rotating ring.
•M23: steel connector with triple locking security
Termination type lanyard:
•Removable lanyards with a length of 0.3 m:
–LS03 M10 M41: 0.3 m strap lanyard with
M10 and M41 connector
–LS03 M10 M42: 0.3 m webbing lanyard with
M10 and M42 connector
–LS03 M10 M10T: 0.3 m webbing lanyard with
M10 and M10T connector
5. The connectors (figure 1, page 2, J)
The connectors supplied with the lanyard have a
breaking strength of more than 22 kN.

6. Clearance
6.1. Vertical use (Figure 3, page 3)
6.2. Horizontal use (Figure 4, page 3)
For stopfor™ MSP B and BF before each use, it is
imperative to check that the clearance (L) under the
device is greater than the sum of twice the length of
the lanyard used (L1), plus 4.50 metres for braking
(L2), plus one metre of safety (L3), plus the elastic
elongation of the rope used (L4), plus the height of the
dorsal point of the person's harness in relation to the
ground (L5), plus the maximum deflection of the
anchor point defined in the operating instructions for
the anchor point.
7. Prohibited use
It is strictly forbidden:
•to install or use this equipment without the proper
authorization, training and recognition or, failing
that, without the supervision of an authorized,
trained and recognized competent person,
•to use this equipment if any of the markings are not
legible,
•to install or use this equipment without first having
carried out the preliminary checks,
•to use this equipment if it has not been periodically
inspected over the past 12 months by a technician
having authorised re-use in writing,
•to connect this equipment to a point if it has not
been periodically inspected over the past 12
months by a technician having authorised re-use in
writing,
•to use this equipment for any application other than
personal fall protection,
•to use this equipment in contradiction with the
information specified in the section “15. Life span”
•to use this equipment as a fall protection system for
more than 1 person,
•to use this equipment by a person whose weight,
equipment included, is greater than 150 kg,
•to use this equipment with a load of between 100
kg and 150 kg (total weight of the operator,
equipment and tools) if any component in the fall-
arrest system has a lower maximum load,
•to use this equipment if he has suffered a fall from
a person,
•to use this equipment as a means of suspension,
•to use this equipment in a highly corrosive or
explosive atmosphere,
•to use this equipment outside the temperature
range specified in this manual,
•to use this equipment if the clearance is not
sufficient in case of a fall of the person,
•to use this equipment if an obstacle is located on
the path of the fall and on the pendulum effect
trajectory when used horizontally,
•to use this equipment if you are not in good
physical condition,
•to use this equipment if you are pregnant,
•to use this equipment if the safety function of any
of the associated items is affected by the safety
function of another item or may interfere with it,
•to use this equipment to secure a material’s load,
•to connect this equipment to a structural anchorage
point whose strength is less than 12 kN or
assumed to be less than 12 kN,
•to use this equipment’s lanyard as a means of
slinging,
•to interfere with the alignment of this equipment
with the lanyard,
•to perform any repair or maintenance operations
on this equipment without first having been trained
and qualified, in writing, by Tractel®,
•to use this equipment if it is not complete, if it has
been dismantled beforehand or if components
have been replaced by any person unauthorised by
Tractel®,
•to use this equipment in horizontal use if the radius
of the edge is not in conformity or if there are any
burrs,
•to use this equipment as a means of suspending
the operator or any other load,
•to place several stopfor™ fall arresters on the
same anchor line,
•to use this equipment on an anchor line whose
angle with the vertical is greater than 30° or a
maximum displacement of 3 m from the vertical
(see Fig. 6.2).

Before each use it is essential to check that
the clearance (L) under the unit is greater
than the sum of twice the length of the lanyard
used (L1), plus one meter for
the braking (L2), plus one meter of safety
(L3), plus the elastic elongation of the rope
used (L4).

•to deviate by more than 1.50 m from the
perpendicular to the edge for stopfor™ fall arrest
device in horizontal use (see fig. 6.1),
•to reassemble the belay system with this
equipment, thus creating a slack strand,
•to use other belay systems, lanyards and
components than those compatible with each fall
arrest model stopfor™ as indicated in this manual,
•to use the belay device for any purpose other than
that of the intended fall arrest model stopfor™,
including with another model of fall arrest device,
•to use a lanyard longer than 0.3 m for stopfor™,
•to use an anchor line or lanyard with defects, knots
or visible signs of deterioration.
8. Installation
Installation before use
Install the stopfor™ on the belay line.
The stopfor™ BF is installed on its string, it is not
removable.
Connect the stopfor™ to the fall arrest harness with
the connector that is directly positioned on the
stopfor™ or with the connector positioned at the end
of the stopfor™ lanyard.
Then, the procedure to follow is as follows:
For stopfor™ B/MSP/K/KS/KSP
•Open the device by rotating the flange
mobile.
•Tilt the cam with your finger to release the passage
of the belay bracket.
•Insert the belay device between the axis of the
pinch and the cam.
•Close the movable flange as far as it will go on the
axis
of pinching.
•Insert the M10 connector supplied with the
stopfor™ into the holes of the two fixed and
movable flanges, which allows the device to be
locked.
•The stopfor™ must be oriented on the belay device
in such a way that the arrow points upwards, with
the device locked.
In case of a fall, the stopfor™ automatically stops the
operator.
For stopfor™ SL,
•take the stopfor™ S in your hands,
•lift the jaw lever upwards,
•unlock the lock by rotating it upwards,
•unscrew the knurled knob,
•open the swivel flange,
•stopfor™ must be oriented on the belay line in a
such way that the arrow points upwards when the
device is locked. If the arrow is pointing downwards,
the coded pin prevents the instrument from closing.
•place the belay bracket in the flanges,
•close the flanges,
•screw in the knurled knob,
•lock the lock by rotating it downwards. In case of a
fall, the stopfor™ automatically stops the fall.
1. Anchoring to the structure (Figure 1, page 2, A)
•The belay bracket is fixed to the anchorage point
by a loop (Fig. 1, page 2, C/K) and a connector
(Fig. 1, page 2, J). The anchor point must have a
minimum strength of 12 kN.
2. Mounting configurations
The stopfor™ must only be mounted on a vertically
suspended anchor line or with a maximum angle of
30° to the vertical or on a horizontal plane (see fig. 6).
