Using the Verifone MX800 Series Pinpads via USB in XP
When using the pinpad via USB the following will need to be done:
Driver Installation
Determining the COM Port That the USB Device is Using
Entering the Configuration Menu
Checking the Correct Interface Settings
Restarting the Device
Configuration in CRE/RPE
Other Required and Optional Pinpad Configuration

Driver Installation
1. Download and extract the USB drivers for the MX800 series pinpad at:
http://download2.pcamerica.com/drivers/VeriFone_MX800_series_USB_Drivers.zip
2. Run the downloaded drivers. Note, there is nothing to click next to with these drivers simply double-click
on the installer and the drivers will be installed automatically.
3. Connect the device, plug in the USB (connection to the computer) first and then the power plug.
4. After the device has been connected and has
passed the loading screen (pictured left) we
must check in the device manager that it is
connected properly.

Determining the COM Port That the USB Device is Using
1. In Windows select Start and right click on My
Computer then select Manage.
2. When at Computer Management select Device
Manager and then the +that is to the left of
Ports (COM & LPT).
3. We want to verify that the Mx800 Family
Terminal (COM9) is there and that it says
COM9. COM9 is what the pinpad must be set
to.

4. To verify that the device is ready to be
configured in CRE/RPE you will need to see
either of the screens (pictured left). The one
with text or the one with the CRE/RPE and the
pcAmerica logos.

Entering the Configuration Menu
In order to use the MX800 series via USB the device must be configured correctly through the configuration
menu.
1. To check the correct configuration the device
must be displaying either screen pictured left,
where either the PCA CRE/RPE logos are rotating
or on the top of the screen it says FORMAGENT.

2. Using a narrow tool such as a paperclip press the
button in the hole to reset the device, it may take
a minute or so.
3. After some time with the device configuring you
should see a screen (pictured left) asking for a
password.
Default password: 166831
Note: If the above password does not work then you
can also try: 166832

4. This will display the System Mode, which is where
all the settings for the MX800 series pinpads are
checked and set.
Checking the Correct Interface Settings

1. At the System Mode screen select CONFIGURE.
2. The Configure (1) screen is where you will set how
the device integrates with the computer.
3. Select USB PORT.
4. If the device is going to be interfaced via USB set it
to Serial Port (COM5).
5. Select the Left Arrow to go back to the
CONFIGURE (1).

6. You will want to check and make sure that the
Ethernet configuration is disabled.
7. Select ETHERNET PORT (or NETWORK PORT).
8. Check DISABLE.
9. Select the Left Arrow to go back to the
CONFIGURE (1). Select the Left Arrow once again
to go back to the System Mode screen.
