1INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
1.1 Introduction
WARNING
DO NOT APPLY ELECTRICAL POWER TO THE MULTI-MODULE MSS SYSTEM BEFORE THE
CONSENT OF THE COMMISSIONING ENGINEER.
WARNING
THE SYSTEM EQUIPMENT SHOULD BE INSTALLED BY A QUALIFIED ENGINEER IN
ACCORDANCE WITH THE INFORMATION CONTAINED IN THIS CHAPTER. ALL EQUIPMENT NOT
REFERRED TO IN THIS MANUAL IS SHIPPED WITH DETAILS OF ITS OWN MECHANICAL AND
ELECTRICAL INSTALLATION.
WARNING
Battery hazards
EYE PROTECTION SHOULD BE WORN TO PREVENT INJURY FROM ACCIDENTAL ELECTRICAL
ARCS.
REMOVE RINGS, WATCHES AND ALL METAL OBJECTS.
ONLY USE TOOLS WITH INSULATED HANDLES.
WEAR RUBBER GLOVES.
NOTE
REMOVE THE FUSES OF THE FANS BEFORE OPENING THE FAN COVERS. MAINTENANCE OF
FANS SHOULD BE CARRIED OUT WHEN THE MSS IS INSULATED FROM BOTH SUPPLY LINES.
This secti n describes the Multi-M dule MSS System's envir nmental requirements and mechanical
c nsiderati ns that must be taken int acc unt when planning the p siti ning and cabling f the Multi-
M dule MSS System.
Because every site has its peculiarities, it is n t the aim f this chapter t pr vide step-by-step
installati n instructi ns, but t act as a guide as t the general pr cedures and practices that sh uld be
bserved by the installing engineer.

1.2 Environmental Considerations
1.2.1 Multi-Module MSS System Location
The Multi-M dule MSS System sh uld be l cated in a c l, dry, clean-air envir nment with adequate
ventilati n t keep the ambient temperature within the specified perating range.
All the equipment is c led with the aid f internal fans. C ling air enters the devices thr ugh the
ventilati n grids l cated at vari us p ints n the cabinet and is released thr ugh the grids n the r f.
T permit air t enter and exit and t prevent verheating r malfuncti ning, d n t c ver the
ventilati n penings.
If necessary, a system f extract r fans sh uld be installed t aid c ling-air fl w, and a suitable air
filter sh uld be used if the MSS is perating in a c ntaminated envir nment.
1.2.2 Storing
If the unit is t be st red bef re installati n, it is rec mmended that it be st red in a dry envir nment
with temperatures in the range f -10°C t 70°C. Use riginal packing materials r ther suitable means
t keep the unit clean.
1.3 Mechanical Considerations
1.3.1 Centralized Parallel System Location Selection
The MSS + TCE cabinets and the MSS in centralized parallel system must be installed in a c l, dry,
clean and well-ventilated envir nment in which the m unting fl r is flat and even and the ambient
envir nmental parameters are within the specified range, as sh wn in the "Technical data" chapter n
page 81.
The MSS + TCE cabinets and MSS in centralized parallel system use f rced air c nvecti n c ling
which is pr vided by the internal fan. The c ld air enters the inside f the MSS + TCE cabinets and the
MSS thr ugh the grills n the MSS + TCE cabinets and the MSS cabinet and is expelled thr ugh the
t p grill f the MSS + TCE cabinets and MSS. If the MSS + TCE cabinets and MSS are m unted n a
raised fl r and the air intake is underneath, the c ld air can enter the MSS + TCE cabinets and MSS
thr ugh the gap between the MSS and the fl r. Exhaust fans sh uld be installed where necessary t
accelerate the ambient air circulati n. In a dusty envir nment, air filters sh uld be installed.

surface.

1.3.2 System Composition
The centralized parallel system f r the cabinet c mp siti n is sh wn in Table 1. All the cabinets are the
same height and are installed side-by-side f r aesthetic effect.

1.3.3 Moving the Cabinets
The r ute t be traveled between the p int f arrival and the unit's end p siti n must be planned such
that all penings are wide en ugh f r the unit and that fl rs are capable f supp rting its weight (f r
instance, check that d rways, lifts, ramps, etc. are adequate and that there are n impassable c rners
r changes in the level f c rrid rs).
WARNING
ENSURE ANY LIFTING EQUIPMENT USED IN MOVING THE MSS CABINET HAS SUFFICIENT
LIFTING CAPACITY.
EXERCISE EXTREME CARE WHEN HANDLING MSS CABINETS TO AVOID EQUIPMENT DAMAGE
OR INJURY TO PERSONNEL.
Ensure that the MSS weight is within the designated surface weight l ading (kg/cm
2
) f any handling
equipment. MSS and pti nal cabinets (battery cabinets, t p cable entry cabinets, etc.) can be handled
by means f a f rklift r similar equipment. F r perati ns with a f rklift, it is necessary t rem ve
either the l wer pr tecti n panel, l cated at the base f the cabinet, and rear panels ( r b th side
panels).
In the event that the equipment cann t be m ved by f rklift, r llers sh uld be used.
Because the weight distributi n in the cabinet is uneven, use extreme care during handling and
transp rting.
When m ving the unit by f rklift, lift the unit fr m the rear s as t pr tect the fr nt panel. D n t
exceed a 15 degrees tilt with the f rklift. The b tt m structure will supp rt the unit nly if the f rks are
c mpletely beneath the unit.
Handling with straps is n t auth rized.
