2.2 Description
Through its modular structure, the model TGU73.100 gas-actuated
thermometer is designed for operation with the model NETRIS®3 radio
unit.
The gas-actuated thermometer consists of a stem, capillary, bourdon
tube and transmitter in the case. These parts are combined to form a
single unit. The entire measuring system is filled with an inert gas under
pressure.

Any change in temperature causes a change in internal pressure in the
stem, and thus a change in the shape of the pressure element.
This motion is converted, via a mechanical movement, into a rotational
motion. A magnet on the pointer shaft rotates proportionally to the
instrument pointer as a direct linear function of the process tempera-
ture.
The angle sensor contained in the transmitter electronics measures
the rotational motion of the magnet in the range 0 ... 270°. The change
in angle is recorded contact-free, and therefore wear-free, and further
processed into a digital signal, which is transmitted to the model
NETRIS®3 radio unit. The radio unit ensures the intrinsically safe
voltage supply for the TGU73.100 gas-actuated thermometer and
ensures the transmission of the measured data based on LPWAN
technology ("Low Power Wide Area Network").
The measurement and sending intervals, and also the alarm limits, for
particular measured values can be configured over the IIoT platform.
→ For details on the alarm configuration, see Special documentation for
LoRaWAN®communication specification, model TGU73.100.
Variations in the ambient temperature acting on the case are compen-
sated for by a bimetal element mounted between the movement and
the measuring tube.
The mechanical on-site indication works completely autonomously, i.e.
battery-independent.
Accuracy class
After tapping on the case, the indication meets accuracy class 2.0 in
accordance with EN 13190.

3. Safety
3.1 Intended use
WARNING!
Damage to property due to incorrect temperature of
use
Temperatures outside the application range can lead to
irreversible damage to the measuring instrument.
▶The temperatures of the application range must not be
exceeded at any time, not even when faults occur in the
end application.
The model TGU73.100 thermometer combines a mechanical measu-
ring system with electronic signal processing and is prepared for
connection to the WIKA model NETRIS®3 radio unit. The instru-
ment is used for measuring temperature in hazardous areas of
industrial applications. For the operation of TGU73.100 the use of a
thermowell/protection tube is necessary.
The model TGU73.100 thermometer in combination with the model
NETRIS®3 radio unit is used wherever web-based remote monitoring
of the process temperature is desired in addition to on-site indication.
In addition to the temperature value of the process, the instrument
temperature is also transmitted digitally.
Due to the position of the temperature probe, which is
located on the sensor circuit board in the thermometer
case, the instrument temperature is influenced by the
ambient and the process temperature.
The instrument has been designed and built solely for the intended use
described here, and may only be used accordingly.
