1.0 INTRODUCTION
The Z3-Q603-RPS is a compact video encoder system. The system offers encoding capabilities of H.265/HEVC
and H.264 video up to 4K resolutions.
Together with the 30-0101 QCS603 CPU module board, the 30-0103 and 30-0104 boards form the Z3-Q603-
RPS video encoder system. The 30-0103 and 30-0104 boards provide power and I/O connectivity to the Z3-
Q603-RPS system.
The 30-0103 board contains all the power supplies and circuits necessary to implement the various inputs
and outputs. It is designed to attach directly to the CPU module, and has the following features:
•Micro-HDMI jack for A/V output, up to 4K resolution at 30 fps
•Micro-HDMI jack for A/V input up to 4K resolution at 30 fps
•Composite video input supporting NTSC and PAL standards
•KEL connector for HD video cameras with LVDS interface format
•KEL connector for 4K video cameras with HDMI/TMDS interface
The 30-0104 board contains all the large jacks, bus driver electronics and associated ESD protection. It is
intended to mount directly to the 30-0103 forming a 3-board stack, and has the following features:
•Threaded DC jack for DC power input
•RJ45 jack and magnetics for Gigabit Ethernet
•RS485 bus driver for PTZ control
•RS232 bus driver for the serial console port and auxiliary RS232 port
•RCA jack for composite video input (30-0104-30 and later)
•USB Type-C jack
•Switch for clearing presets
•Status LED
•Genlock indication LED

2.2 Connection to a Sony 4K Camera Block
J5 provides connectivity support for 4K cameras such as the FCB-ER8300, ER8530, ER8550 and FCB-EW9500H
with Sony-style 30-pin KEL jacks. These cameras have HDMI interface and power input on pins 27-30 of the
KEL jack.
WARNING: ONLY USE THE CORRECT KEL RIBBON CABLE PROVIDED BY Z3 TECHNOLOGY.
Using an incorrect type of KEL cable will likely permanently damage the camera body and/or encoder.
WARNING: Always insert the KEL plug with the shiny flat side facing up. Do not force the KEL plug into
the jack. Doing so is likely to cause permanent damage to the jack.
Please note that LVDS camera blocks, such as the FCB-EV7520, must use jack J7 of the Q603-RPS
encoder systems. Connecting the wrong camera block to the encoder will result in permanent damage
to the camera and/or encoder.

KEL makes two versions of ribbon cables that physically fit when connecting the encoder to the camera. One
cable is “straight thru”, with pin 1 connected to pin 1, and another is a “cross” type, with pin 1 connected
to pin N (N=30 in this case).
Z3 Technology provides the correct cable as part of the Q603-RPS complete starter kit system. The KEL cable
is also sold separately (ordering part number: CBL-0025-01). Please ONLY USE THE CABLE PROVIDED BY Z3
TECHNOLOGY to connect the Sony FCB-ER8300 to the I/F Front End PCB of the Q603 30-0103.
The correct cable is the “straight thru”, with pin 1 connecting to pin 1. The figure below shows the straight
cable. Note how the connectors at the ends of the cable are positioned in opposite orientation so that pin 1
on one side connects to pin 1 on the other side.

The KEL ribbon cable between the Q603-RPS 30-0103 and the FCB-ER8300 block camera is the only

connection necessary between the camera and the encoder. The KEL ribbon cable provides the following
connectivity:
▪Power from the encoder to the camera
▪Video from the camera to the encoder
▪Sony VISCA™controls, bidirectional, using a serial port
This connector provides a direct connection with the Sony FCB-ER8300 block camera. Make sure to use the
KEL ribbon cable provided or approved by Z3 Technology. Risk of permanent damage to the camera or
encoder exists if a non-approved cable is used.
The connector used is a KEL USL00-30L.
The pin assignments on J5 are shown in the table below.
Please note that the pin numbering of J5 on the Interface Front End PCB is opposite of that on the Sony FCB-
ER8300 camera.

2.3 Connection to the Sony FCB-EV7520A Camera
J7 provides connectivity support for LVDS cameras with Sony-style 30-pin KEL jacks such as FCB-EV7520,
EV7100 series, FCB-EV9500L cameras and other cameras compatible with the Sony LVDS connection. These
cameras have 4 or 8 lanes of LVDS interface and power input on pins 14-18 of the KEL jack.
Attention: the FCB-EV9500M camera is *NOT* compatible with the J7 jack.
WARNING: ONLY USE THE CORRECT KEL RIBBON CABLE PROVIDED BY Z3 TECHNOLOGY.
Using an incorrect cable can permanently damage the camera body or encoder.
WARNING: Always insert the KEL plug with the shiny flat side facing up. Do not force the KEL plug into
the jack. Doing so is likely to cause permanent damage to the jack.
WARNING: ONLY USE THE SONY FCB-EV7520 CAMERA ON THE J7 JACK.
Using an incorrect camera is likely to permanently damage the camera body and/or encoder.
Please note that the Sony 4K camera blocks, such as the FCB-ER8300, must use jack J5 of the Q603-RPS
encoder systems. Connecting the wrong camera block to the encoder will result in permanent damage
to the camera and/or encoder.
