1.0 GENERAL DESCRIPTION
In the security market, there are many different schemes for Pan/Tilt/Zoom (PTZ) control.
This App Notes describes various scenarios from using standard ONVIF controls for Pelco-D
commands on RS-485, to implementing custom PTZ controls on RS-485 or RS-232.

2.1 RS-485 control is available from the connector PCB at header J5.
The RS485 header uses 1.25mm spacing.
The exact part number used for J5 is Hirose DF13-4P-1.25DSA.
The recommended mating part is the Hirose DF13-4S-1.25C shell plus the appropriate pins.
On J5, the RS485 ”A” signal is on pin 1 and “B” on pin 2
(see Figure).

Please refer to the Hardware Specification Document, DOC-USR-0116-0x for more
information.
If the unit is in its case, it is best to leave it in the case, and not disassemble the thermal
pads and copper tape. Since the case metalwork does not have a hole for J5 on the rear
panel, it is recommended to install the mating shell using tweezers, and route the wires out
where possible. The mating shell should be plugged straight into the connector

see Figure.
Serial ports are mapped to software devices as follows:
The RS-232 port (back panel 2.5 mm jack) is /dev/ttyAMA0
The RS-485 port (J5 on connector PCB) is /dev/ttyAMA1
The VISCA control port for Sony camera is /dev/ttyAMA2

3.0 USING ONVIF RS-485 PELCO-D PTZ CONTROLS
3.1 ONVIF Device Manager
3.2 Com2TCP Setup
1. Before proceeding confirm that on the Term tab of the Z3 Unit, the Baudrate is
configured for the Baudrate of the PTZ arm or device connected to the RS-485 port.
2. If you have not already done so, install the Com2TCP application onto your PC.
(Windows 7 is recommended. For Windows 8 or 10, verify you are using v1.4.6.)
Com2TCP is an application supporting remote access and is available online.
3. Launch the Com2TCP application.
4. Set the Remote IP field to the IP address of your Z3 Unit. This can be found using
ZFinder or as the URL of the web browser with the user interface open.
5. Set the TCP Port to 2000. This value must match the “Local Port” value listed in the
Term tab of the Z3 Unit user interface.

6. Assign a COM Port that is not currently in use on your system using the dropdown
menu.
7. Click the Connect button. The application will minimize. Do not close this application
while your camera PTZ control over RS-485 is in use.
The COM port selected will now redirect data to the Z3 Unit.
Note: If the camera is rebooted or power cycled, you will need to reconnect COM2TCP on
your PC. COM2TCP does not automatically detect the dropped connection.

4.0 USING RS-232 PORT INSTEAD OF RS-485 FOR CUSTOM PTZ CONTROLS
1) Remove console from bootargs
a) edit bootargs

The result should be similar to

c) change bootargs and verify change

If you made an error during the process and the bootargs printed in step c) are not correct,
you can revert the settings to the original and try again by running
fw_setenv bootargs_misc "`cat /tmp/orig.txt`"
fw_printenv bootargs_misc
2) Change settings in Term tab on web page –to use RS-232 port, set “Devicefile” to
/dev/ttyAMA0 as shown in Figure.
Set the “Baudrate” to your desired baud rate.
Then click the “Update” button to save the settings.
Note: The “Save” button will not save the “Term” tab settings – you must use the “Update”
button.

3) Edit the file /etc/init.d/S00devs to point the login tty to a virtual terminal instead of the
serial console.
