Chapter 1
Introduction
This Configuration and Installation Manual provides all the information required
by trained installation and maintenance personnel to install the ECA06, ECA60,
ECA600 and EMA60 process controllers and to configure them for use by system
operators.
Chapter 2, Installation, describes the mechanical and electrical installation
procedures for the controllers.
Chapter 3, Configuration, is intended for trained personnel such as Process
Control Engineers or Instrument Technicians who configure the controllers.
It describes the operator interfaces and features available in the Configuration
Mode and describes all the configurable options available for each controller.
Chapter 4, Maintenance, contains maintenance instructions to ensure the
continued safe operation of the controllers.
Chapter 5, Technical Data, contains a summary of the features of the controllers.
Appendix A, Application Examples contains detailed configuration instructions
for some typical applications.
Appendix B, Error, Warning and Information Codes, lists all the error, warning
and information codes that may be encountered and describes the appropriate
operator action by maintenance personnel.
Appendix C, Configuration Tree Diagrams, contains complete Configuration
Menus for each controller.
Appendix D, Configuration Work Sheet, contains an example worksheet which
you can photocopy and use to plan configurations.
Appendix E, Communication, contains details of communication parameters and
settings.

Appendix F, Special Modes, contains details of operating modes where you can
update the software or reset all the parameters in the configuration to their default
settings
• Installation and maintenance personnel should read chapters 3, 4 and 5 of this
manual.
• Technicians who are authorised to determine the installation functions and
configuration should read Chapter 2 of this manual.

1.1 Warning and Information Symbols
Warning and information symbols appear in the left margin adjacent to
paragraphs containing important information.
The symbols should be interpreted as follows:
• A warning sign denotes a danger of injury to personnel or that caution is
required to avoid damage to the equipment.
•Asignformandatory action denotes steps necessary to bring the equipment
into operation but without immediate safety implications.
• A sign indicating important information.
1.2 Process Safety
Read the safety and environmental instructions provided by the supplier of the
machinery or process equipment controlled by the ECA controller. Pay special
attention to situations in which the mains supply is switched on or off, units are
fitted or removed, cables are connected or disconnected, and units are reset or

switched to manual operation. If possible shut down the process before such
actions are taken.
1.3 Electrical Supplies
Maintenance of electrical equipment should only be performed by trained
personnel. Always switch off the power supply at the mains outlet and disconnect
the power supply cables before removing the covers from or attempting to repair
any ECA controller.
1.4 Operating Environment
Observe the following:
• The ECA controllers must not be exposed to environmental conditions
exceeding the values stated in the technical data in the Configuration and
Installation Manual.
• The ECA controllers should not be used in an environment where there is a risk
of exposure to strong electrical interference.
• Always follow precautions for handling electrostatic sensitive devices when
handling the ECA controllers.
1.5 Version information
Version 1.00
The first version.
• Controller types ECA06, ECA60 and ECA600
Version 1.01
Changes and additions:
• Absolute and Deviation Alarm block; The input connections are freely
configurable.
• Auto Mode; No parameters except PID Parameters are changeable.
• New block types; AOC (Analog Output Communication) and DOC (Digital
Output Communication).
• Editable texts.

1.5 Version information Chapter 1: Introduction
14 493-0736-11 (6-2)
• Configuration via COMLI possible.
Version 1.02
Changes and additions:
• EMA60 is serial approved.
• German menu language is introduced.
Version 1.03
Changes and additions:
• DOX 6 can be used in this version.
Version 1.04
Changes and additions:
• The integrator block is revised completely.
• The integrator block is included in ECA600.
• PID- and Gain Scheduling parameters can be read/written via COMLI.
• A new parameter, COMLIWriteEnable, enables writing via COMLI in
Communication Mode Local.
• The parameter ESPLock is added to the Set Point Block, which means that the
controller can be locked in ESP mode.
• The “RestartBehaviour” parameter is supplemented with new modes.
• The IncDec Block has improved functions. Two input signals for tracking and
two parameters for output signal limitation are added.
Version 1.05
Changes and additions:
• The Rate Limiter function is now also available in ECA60 and ECA600.
• The Time Measurement function is now also available in ECA600.
• Two new function blocks (FO), Timer and Counter, have been added to
ECA600 and EMA60.
• A warning does not cause the bar graph to flash, only an error.

Chapter 1: Introduction 1.5 Version information
493-0736-11 (6-2) 15
• The Three State Pulse function (with feedback) has been revised.
• ISP and output signals are now writeable from a supervisory system via
communication.

Chapter 2
Installation
This chapter provides all the information required by trained service engineers to
install the ECA06, ECA60, ECA600 and EMA60 controllers and to make all the
necessary electrical connections.
The ECA06, ECA60, ECA600 and EMA60 controller units fit into a cutout in a
vertical panel which allows high packing density. The panel must be between
2 mm and 4 mm thick. For installation on thicker panels, contact your local
representative.
Warning – Damage From ESD: To reduce the risk of damage to the controller
from ESD (electrostatic discharge) you should discharge yourself by touching a
suitable ground point before handling the controller.
2.1 Panel Cutout
The dimensions and spacing of the panel cutouts required for installation of the
controller are shown below. All dimensions are in mm.
Note: The panel may need extra support if a large number of controllers are
mounted on it and the minimum spacing between the panel cutouts is used.

Installation and Removal
The mechanical installation is performed in two steps:
1 Installation of the cassette in the panel cutout.
2 Insertion of the controller unit in the cassette.
The electrical connections can be made after step 1.
