1 Identification
The xFUME™ ADVANCED 115V – CSA fume extraction system is used for extracting fumes generated
during welding, cutting and grinding processes. The device may be operated only with original ABICOR
BINZEL spare parts. These operating instructions describe only the xFUME™ ADVANCED 115V – CSA fume
extraction system.
When used in these operating instructions, the terms “device”, “product”, and “fume extraction system”
always refer to the xFUME™ ADVANCED 115V – CSA fume extraction system.
1.1 Marking
This product fulfills the requirements that apply to the market to which it has been introduced. A
corresponding marking has been affixed to the product, if required.
1.2 Nameplate
The device is labeled by means of a nameplate on the housing.
► You will need the device type, device number and year of manufacture for inquiries.

1.4 Classification of the warnings
The warnings used in the operating instructions are divided into four different levels and shown prior to
potentially dangerous work steps. The following signal words are used depending on the type of hazard:
2 Safety
This chapter describes the essential safety requirements and warns of residual hazards that should be kept
in mind to operate the product safely. Non-observance of the safety instructions may result in risks to the life
and health of personnel, and environmental damage or material damage.
► Please retain these operating instructions and all other documentation for future reference.
2.1 Designated use
The device described in these operating instructions may be used only for the purpose and in the manner
described in these operating instructions. The device is used to extract welding fumes and dust that is
generated during welding. The device can be used to extract fumes and dust when welding or cutting steel
with an alloy content of nickel and chrome under 30%. Any other use is considered improper. Unauthorized
modifications or changes to enhance the performance are not permitted.
► Do not exceed the maximum load data as defined by the documentation supplied. Excessive loads lead
to irreparable damage.
► Do not make any constructive changes to this product.
► Do not use or store the device outdoors where it is wet.
► During welding work outdoors, use suitable protection against the weather conditions.
► Ensure that the volume flow that is led back to the work area during operation does not exceed 50% of
the supply air of the installation area. In the event of free room ventilation, the supply air flow
corresponds to one room volume per hour. This equals a ventilation rate of 1/h (supply air flow [m³/
h] = room volume [m³] × ventilation rate [1/h]).
DANGER
Describes an imminent threatening danger. If not avoided, it may cause severe injuries or death.
WARNING
Describes a potentially dangerous situation. If not avoided, this may result in death or serious injuries.
CAUTION
Describes a potentially harmful situation. If not avoided, this may result in slight or minor injuries.
NOTICE
Describes the risk of impairing work results or material damage and indicates irreparable damage to the
device or equipment.

2.2 Obligations of the operator
► Ensure that only qualified personnel are permitted to perform work on the device or system.
Authorized personnel are:
— those who are familiar with the basic regulations on occupational safety and accident prevention;
— those who have been instructed on how to handle the device;
— those who have read and understood these operating instructions;
— those who have been trained accordingly;
— those who are able to recognize possible risks because of their special training, knowledge, and
experience.
► Keep untrained persons out of the work area.
Country-specific obligations of the operator
The recirculation of filtered air can lead to health risks and is therefore prohibited in certain countries. For
example, when operating the device in France, the cleaned air must be expelled from the building.
► Observe the local occupational health and safety regulations.
2.3 Warning and information signs
The following warning, notice and mandatory signs can be found on the product:
These markings must always be legible. They may not be covered, obscured, painted over, or removed.
WARNING
Risk of injury due to electromagnetic fields
The device can cause electromagnetic fields to develop.
► Use the device only in industrial areas.
► Disconnect the mains plug before maintenance and cleaning.
► Wear a respiratory mask.
Rotating fan blade warning. Risk of injury.
► Disconnect the device from the power supply before opening it.
Warning against hot surfaces. Risk of burns.
► Do not touch hot surfaces.

2.4 Basic safety instructions
The product has been developed and manufactured in accordance with state-of-the-art technology and the
recognized safety standards and regulations. Inevitable technical residual risks to the user, third parties,
devices, or other material property are posed by the product. The manufacturer will accept no liability for
damage caused by non-observance of the documentation.
► Before using the system for the first time, please read the provided documentation carefully.
► Do not operate the product unless it is functioning properly and ensure compliance with all documents.
► Before carrying out specific work, for example, commissioning, operation, transport and maintenance,
read the documentation carefully.
► Use suitable means to protect yourself and bystanders from the hazards listed in the documentation.
► Store the documentation within easy reach of the device for reference and enclose all documents when
passing on the product.
► Consult the documentation for additional welding components.
► Information about how to handle gas cylinders can be found in the instructions provided by the gas
manufacturer and the relevant local regulations, e.g., regulations that apply to compressed air.
► Observe the local accident prevention regulations.
► Only trained specialists should commission, operate, and service the device. Qualified personnel are
persons who, based on their special training, knowledge, experience and due to their knowledge of the
relevant standards, are able to assess the tasks assigned to them and identify possible dangers.
► Keep the work area in order. Ensure good lighting of the work area.
► Switch off the power supply, gas supply, and compressed air and unplug the power plug for the entire
duration of maintenance, commissioning, and repair activities.
► For disposal, observe the local regulations, laws, provisions, standards and guidelines.
Safety instructions for use of electrical devices
► Please read all the instructions before using this device.
► Keep hair, loose clothing, fingers and all body parts away from the openings and movable parts.
Improper use or connection can result in life-threating electric shock or fire. This may result in serious injuries.
► Use the device according to its designated use only.
► Only use manufacturer-approved component parts.
► Check all live cables and connections for proper installation and damage.
► If the device does not function correctly, was dropped or damaged, is left outdoors or fell into water,
have it checked by an authorized specialist store.
► Do not touch the device with wet hands.
► Do not insert any objects into the device’s openings.
► Do not use the device if an opening is blocked.
► Keep the device free of dust, fluff, hair and anything that could impair the flow of air.
Safety instructions for electrical components
► Check electric tools for damage and for its proper functioning in accordance with its designated use.
► Do not expose electric tools to rain and avoid a moist or wet environment.
► Protect yourself from electric shock by using insulating mats and wearing dry clothing.
► Do not use the electric tools in areas subject to fire or explosion hazards.

Safety instructions for welding
► Arc welding may cause damage to the eyes, skin and hearing. Note that other hazards may arise when
the device is used with other welding components. Therefore, always wear the prescribed personal
protective equipment as defined by local regulations.
► Any metal vapors, especially lead, cadmium, copper and beryllium are harmful. Ensure sufficient
ventilation or extraction. Do not exceed the current occupational exposure limits (OEL).
► To prevent the formation of phosgene gas, rinse workpieces that have been degreased with chlorinated
solvents using clean water. Do not place degreasing baths containing chlorine in the vicinity of the
welding area.
► Adhere to the general fire protection regulations and remove flammable materials from the vicinity of
the welding work area prior to starting work. Provide appropriate fire extinguishing equipment in the
workplace.
Safety instructions for personal protective equipment
► Do not wear loose fitting clothing or jewelry.
► Use a hair net for long hair.
► Wear safety goggles, protective gloves, and a respiratory mask, if necessary.

2.6 Safety instructions for the electrical power supply
► Ensure that the mains connecting cable is not damaged, for example, by being driven over, crushed or
torn.
► Check the mains connecting cable for damage and wear at regular intervals.
► Only operate the device with an undamaged mains connector.
► Protect the 115 V/60 Hz (according to the current) mains connector on the mains side.
► If it is necessary to replace the mains connecting cable, only models indicated by the manufacturer may
be used.
► Only a qualified electrician should replace the mains connecting cable and the mains plug.
► Splash-water protection and mechanical stability must be ensured when replacing the mains plug of the
mains connecting cable.
WARNING
Health risk caused by inhaling harmful dust
The device contains harmful dust that can collect on surfaces and penetrate the ambient air as of the first
use. It can damage the respiratory tract when inhaled.
► Check and wear your personal protective equipment.
► Use the device only in rooms with sufficient ventilation.
► Ensure that all seals on the device are free from dirt and debris.
► The provided filtration system must be used when operating the device.
► The dust collecting drawer must be closed when operating the device.
► Keep the device closed during operation and during the cleaning process.
► Immediately remove dust deposits from the environment with a dust class H industrial vacuum cleaner
or a damp cloth.
WARNING
Fire and explosion hazard due to usage not in accordance with the designated use
The extraction of flammable, aggressive chemical or oil-laden substances and materials as well as dusts
containing aluminum or magnesium can pose a risk of fire and explosion due to chemical reactions. This
may result in serious injuries.
► Use the device according to its designated use only.

► To replace or lengthen the mains connecting cable, use only a cable of the type and with the same
cross-section as the original.
2.7 Personal protective equipment
► Wear your personal protective equipment (PPE).
► Ensure that others in close proximity are also wearing personal protective equipment.
Personal protective equipment consists of protective clothing, safety goggles, a class P3 respiratory mask,
protective gloves, and safety shoes.
2.8 Emergency information
► In the event of an emergency, immediately disconnect the following supplies: electrical power supply.
► Extinguish burning oil or emulsions using a CO2 or powder fire extinguisher.
3 Scope of delivery
The following components are included in the scope of supply:
— 1× xFUME™ ADVANCED 115V – CSA fume extraction system
— 1× current clamp
— 1× power supply cable with safety plug
— 1× extraction hose (length 5 m) incl. 2× connectors
— 1× compressed air connection including sealing ring
— 1× operating instructions

4 Product description
4.1 Assembly and use
The device is a component of a welding system. The device is used for manual welding and automated
welding/robot welding. Welding fumes are produced during the welding process. They are filtered and
cleaned by the filter cartridges inside the device. The device can be used to extract fumes and dust when
welding or cutting steel with an alloy content of nickel and chrome under 30%.
The device is equipped with an automatic starting function. Together with a current clamp, the automatic
starting function switches on extraction automatically when the welding process starts. Once the welding
process begins, the device receives a signal from the current clamp and automatically starts the fume
extraction process. Use of the automatic starting function extends the service life of the device.
Two powerful turbines (F) draw the welding fumes in via intake fittings (C) located in the middle section of
the device. The welding fumes are pressed through filter membranes in the filter cartridges (G). The dust and
debris stay stuck to the filter material. The cleaned air is sent through the top section of the device and
returned to the environment through exhaust louvers (E).
The device is equipped with two rotary nozzles, which with the help of a pulse of pressurized air, blow dirt
and debris out of the filter membranes. A collection container collects the dirt and debris.
The following extraction devices can be connected to the device:
— Fume extraction torch
— Welding torch with external extraction systems
— Funnel-shaped nozzle with magnetic bracket
A maximum of two fume extraction torches may be attached to the device.

<Auto/Manual> switch (E) The automatic starting function is activated when the switch is set to
<Auto>. If the switch is set to <Manual>, the automatic starting function is
inactive and the device must be switched on and off manually.
Service LED (A) The device is equipped with a safety device to monitor the minimum air
volume flow to be extracted. A differential pressure switch is used for
monitoring purposes. The service LED illuminates in continuously when
both filter cartridges are not functioning properly or are saturated and
must be replaced. During initialization, the service LED and the power
LED flash alternately.
Operation LED (B) The operation LED illuminates continuously when the motor is running.
During initialization, the power LED and the service LED flash alternately.
Power LED (C) The power LED illuminates continuously if the device has been switched

► Ensure that the extraction hose is laid in a straight line.
► Ensure that all supply lines and cables do not encroach into the area in which employees are working.
► Place the device on a suitable base (flat, solid, dry) on which it will not topple over.
► Note the weight of the device when lifting it.

6.1 Attaching the extraction hose
A maximum of two fume extraction torches may be attached to the device. If only one fume extraction torch
is connected, the cap for the second connector should be closed to ensure optimal extraction.
1Remove the cap from the intake fittings.
2Screw the connectors on both ends of the
extraction hose.
3Connect one end of the extraction hose with
connector to the welding torch cable assembly.
4Connect the other end of the extraction hose to the
device's intake fittings.
A maximum of two fume extraction torches may be
attached to the device.

6.2 Mounting the current clamp
A current clamp is supplied with the device. A second current clamp is optionally available for the
connection of a second fume extraction torch.

7 Operation

Damaged or improperly installed cables can lead to fatal electric shock.
► Check all live cables and connections for proper installation and damage.
► Damaged, deformed or worn parts should only be replaced by a qualified electrician.

► Ensure that the operating voltage specified on the nameplate is suitable for the mains voltage.

7.1 Setting the extraction volume
7.2 Manual operation
The device is operated in manual mode (deactivated automatic starting function) as follows:

1To set the extraction volume, turn the output
regulator to the right or left.
1 Set the <Auto/Manual> switch to <Manual> to
deactivate the automatic starting function.
2Set the <On/Off> switch to <On>.
The filter membranes are cleaned once.
Continuous extraction is started.

Running the cleaning process
The filter membranes must be cleaned regularly to maintain continuous extraction. The cleaning interval
depends on the welding process. We recommend that the filter members are cleaned at least every 2 hours,
however no later than when the service LED illuminates. The service life of the filter membranes can be
lengthened if they are cleaned before the service LED illuminates.
1To clean the filter membranes, set the <On/Off>
switch to <Off> for a short period of time.
The filter membranes are cleaned once.
2Set the <On/Off> switch to <On>.
Continuous extraction is started.

7.3 Automatic mode
The device is operated in automatic mode (activated automatic starting function) as follows:

If the welding process is interrupted, automated cleaning of the filter membranes occurs after a run-on time
of 20 seconds.
The filter membranes must be cleaned regularly to maintain continuous extraction. The cleaning interval
depends on the welding process. We recommend that the filter members are cleaned at least every 2 hours,
however no later than when the service LED illuminates. The service life of the filter membranes can be
lengthened if they are cleaned before the service LED illuminates.

Once the welding process begins, the device

automatically starts the fume extraction process. If
the welding process is interrupted, extraction

NOTICE
Shorter service life due to lack of cleaning
If the welding process is interrupted, automatic cleaning of the filter membranes is run after a run-on time
of 20 seconds. If the welding process is started before the 20 seconds expire, cleaning does not occur.
The service life of the filter membranes is shortened.
► Ensure that the welding process is interrupted at least every 2 hours for a minimum of 20 seconds, or
set the <On/Off> switch to <Off> to run cleaning.

Running the cleaning process manually

switch to <Off> for a short period of time.
The filter membranes are cleaned once.

receives a signal from the current clamp and
automatically starts the fume extraction process.

9 Maintenance and cleaning
Scheduled maintenance and cleaning are prerequisites for a long service life and trouble-free operation.
We recommend you clean the device in two steps. The first part involves emptying the dust from the
collecting drawer. Regularly removing dust can lengthen the service life of the filter cartridges. The second
part involves the electrical and mechanical maintenance of the filter system. The maintenance cycle is
determined by the work environment and by the length of the scheduled intervals between maintenance of
the devices. The maintenance cycle is usually three months. If the device is operated for more than 8 hours
a day, the maintenance intervals should be changed as needed.
WARNING
Health risk caused by inhaling harmful dust
The device contains harmful dust that can collect on surfaces and penetrate the ambient air as of the first
use. It can damage the respiratory tract when inhaled.
► Check and wear your personal protective equipment.
► Use the device only in rooms with sufficient ventilation.
► Ensure that all seals on the device are free from dirt and debris.
► The provided filtration system must be used when operating the device.
► The dust collecting drawer must be closed when operating the device.
► Do not open the dust collecting drawer until at least one minute has passed since the device was
switched off.
► Keep the device closed during operation and during the cleaning process.
► Immediately remove dust deposits from the environment with a dust class H industrial vacuum cleaner
or a damp cloth.

Electric shock due to defective cables
Damaged or improperly installed cables can lead to fatal electric shock.
► Check all live cables and connections for proper installation and damage.
► Damaged, deformed or worn parts should only be replaced by a qualified electrician.

CAUTION
Risk of injury due to unexpected start
If power is supplied during maintenance, cleaning or disassembly, rotating parts can start running
unexpectedly and lead to injuries from cuts.
► Switch off the device.
► Disconnect all electrical connections.
