• Connect the probe to the oscilloscope or voltage measuring
instrumentbeforeclampingtheprobearoundaconductor.
• Neverusetheprobeoncircuitsratedhigherthan600V,CatIII.

connectedtoanoscilloscopeorvoltagemeasuringinstrument.
• Carefullycentertheconductorinsidetheprobejawsandascer-

Cat. I: Formeasurementsoncircuits notdirectlyconnectedto theAC
supply wall outlet such as protected secondaries, signal level,
andlimitedenergycircuits.
Cat. II: For measurements performed on circuits directly connected to
the electrical distribution system. Examples are measurements
onhouseholdappliancesorportabletools.
Cat. III: For measurements performed in the building installation at
the distribution level such as on hardwired equipment in xed
installationandcircuitbreakers.
Cat. IV: For measurements performed at the primary electrical supply
(<1000V) such as on primary overcurrent protection devices,
ripplecontrolunits,ormeters.

applicationsinindustrialorpowerenvironments,andisidealforanalysis
andmeasurementofdistortedcurrentwaveformsandharmonics.
TheModelMN261permitsaccuratedisplayandmeasurementofcurrents
from0.1to240Arms,40Hzto10kHz(withcurrentderating)withoutbreak-
ingintothecircuit.Apassiveltereliminatesnoise,ringonrapidrising(di/
dt)waveforms,andensuresaccuratescreendisplays.
Theprobeconnectsdirectlytoanoscilloscopethroughaninsulatedcoax-
ialcablewithaninsulatedBNC.

OPERATION
4.1 Current Measurement
WARNING: Always connect the probe to the instrument before
clampingontothecircuitundertest.
• ConnecttheModelMN261totheproperinputchannelonthe
oscilloscope.
•
Beginwiththeleastsensitiverangeonthecurrentprobe(10mV/A).
• Selectthe0.5V/Divisionrangeontheoscilloscope.
• Clamptheprobeontheconductortobemeasuredandreadthe
currentowingdirectlyonyouroscilloscope.
(Remember to unclamp the probe from the conductor before disconnect-
ing it from your meter or instrument.)
You may also use your oscilloscope to amplify the signal while using
the1mV/Aproberange(whichoffersthebestaccuracyandleastphase
shift).
NOTE: Itispossibletochangetherangeonthecurrentprobewith-
outremovingtheprobefromthecurrentcarryingconductor,butitis
importanttoremembernottoexceedthepermissiblepeakratings
of340mVpeakor680mVpeaktopeakmaximum.Thepeakratings
byrangeare:34Apeak@100mV/Aand340Apeak@10mV/A.

5.1 Maintenance
WARNING
• Toensureoptimumperformance,itisimportanttokeeptheprobe
jawmatingsurfacescleanatalltimes.Failuretodosomayresult
inerrorinreadings.
• Formaintenanceuseonlyspeciedfactoryreplacementparts.
• Toavoidelectricalshock,donotattempttoperformanyservicing
unlessyouarequaliedtodoso.
• Toavoidelectricalshockand/ordamagetotheinstrument,donot
allowwaterorotherforeignsubstancesintothecase.
• Disconnecttheunitfromallcircuitsandtestcablesbeforeopen-
ingthecase.
• Usecautionwithmetallictoolsthatmayshortbatterypacks,power
supplies,etc.
5.2 Cleaning
• Tocleantheprobebody,useasoftclothdampenedinasolution
ofmilddetergentandwater.Tocleanthecore,openthejawand
cleantheexposedcoresurfaceswithacottonswabdampened
withisopropylalcoholorethylalcohol.Lubricatethejawsmating
surfaceswithalightoil.
• Do not use chemicals containing benzine, benzene, toluene,
xylene,acetone,orsimilarsolvents.
• Donotimmersetheprobeinliquidsoruseabrasivecleaners.
