Spare screws are included with each part. Occasionally, you may be instructed to keep spare or
unused screws for a later stage. Keep these spares in a safe place and label them correctly.
Please make sure you don’t mix up the screws. They look quite similar, but the threads do vary slightly.
Using the wrong screws may damage the parts.
When securing parts together using multiple screws, fit each screw loosely to ensure all the parts are
correctly aligned before gently tightening them firmly, but not overtight, in the order in which you
placed them.
The screwdriver can be magnetized by stroking it with a magnet (fridge magnet, etc.) enabling it to
hold the screws and make assembly easier.
If a screw is tight going into a metal part, do not force it as you may shear the head off. Remove it and
put a tiny smear of Vaseline, soap or light oil on the thread. That will lubricate it and make it easier to
drive home.
During the course of this build, you will receive many pieces that you will assemble immediately –
following the instructions in the corresponding stage – and other pieces that you should store safely
to one side, for use in future assembly stages.
Left and Right! When building your Porsche 917KH, the left or right hand side refers to each side as
you are sitting in the car.

WARNING: Some parts are assembled using magnets. These magnets can cause serious injury if they
are swallowed. Keep away from children. If you suspect a magnet has been swallowed, seek medical
help straight away.

Before installing the
dashboard (63A) onto the
dashboard frame (27A), route
the four cables (blue, green,
white and red-white) between
the tubular frame (31A) and
the wiring board (31C) as
indicated by the red arrow.
Position the dashboard onto
the frame as shown.
Connect the cables (34D, blue)
(34E, green), (35H, white),
and (35I, red-white) from the
dashboard to the four cables of
the corresponding colour from
the circuit board (32D). The
yellow cable is not connected
for the moment.

Temporarily remove the fire
extinguisher pull (28E) from
the dashboard frame (27E)
and set it aside safely.
Carefully turn the assembly
over and locate the two
screw holes just ahead of the
seats. Use two MP screws
(supplied with Stage 64) to fix
the dashboard (63A) to the
dashboard frame (27A) at
these points.
Next to the front left wheel,
drive an MP screw (supplied
with Stage 64) through the
indicated hole to secure the
dashboard (63A).
You’ll need to use the long
thin screwdriver between the
‘V’ of the frame (highlighted
in orange) to reach the holes.
Pass the screwdriver through
the area highlighted orange
to access the hole.

Replace the fire extinguisher
pull (28E) in the dashboard
frame (27A).
Next to the front right wheel,
drive an MP screw (supplied
with Stage 64) through the
hole in the same manner.
Pass the screwdriver through
the area highlighted orange
to access the hole.
Disconnect the right and left
headlight LED cables (35F).
Store them away safely for now.

Align the front floor panel (65A) with the underside of the chassis (25A) as shown and position it
in place. Secure it using four PM screws.
The dashboard and front floor panel have been mounted onto the chassis.

Fit the radiator front panel
(66B) into the radiator (66A)
and secure in place using two
MP screws. Press the right and
left radiator sides (66C and
66E) onto the shaped pins of
the radiator as shown.
Push each of the ends of
a metal hose (66F) into a
connector (66G), then fit
a coupling (66D) into the
connectors in the orientation
shown. Repeat this process to
make a second metal hose.
Note that the left radiator
side (66C) has two holes in
one edge (orange arrows).

Carefully turn the assembly over and detach the water hose (37B) from
the pin of the water pump housing (8A) as shown by the red arrow.
Connect the two metal
hoses (66F) to the radiator
by pressing the pins of their
connectors into the holes of
the left radiator side (66C).
Position the lugs of the
radiator (66A) into the
corresponding holes of the
front floor panel (65A) and
secure it using two AP screws.
Do not remove the
second hose (green
arrow), as it will be
used to connect the
oil tank later.

Take the cooling water pipe
roll (66H) and cut two lengths
of hose measuring 285 mm.
Fit a length of the cooling
water pipe (66H), highlighted
green, over the pin of the
water pump housing (8A)
from which the hose was
removed in Step 3. Run the
hose under the edge of the
cockpit bulkhead (54A) and
along the side of the passenger
seat (bottom image).

Guide the cooling water pipe
(66H) underneath the wiring
board (31C) and towards the
front of the model.
Connect the cooling water
pipe (66h) to the coupling
(66D) of the lower hose.
Take the other length of
cooling water pipe (66H),
highlighted red, and pass it
through the left side of the
frame and under the cockpit
bulkhead (54A) as shown. The
other end (orange arrow) will
be left loose for now.
Before connecting the pipe to
the coupling, you may wish to
trim it to length by removing
any excess piping if needed.
Once the end of the pipe is
near the gap in the bulkhead,
you can use a pair of tweezers
to grasp it and pull it through.

Run the cooling water pipe
(66H) through towards the
front of the model as shown.
Slide the cooling water pipe
(66H) behind the wiring board
(31C), then run it through to
the front of the model.
Connect the cooling water
pipe (66h) to the coupling
(66D) of the upper metal hose.

Carefully turn the assembly
upside down and unscrew
the two CM screws from the
chassis (25A), as indicated by
the red arrows.
Align the cockpit floor panel
(67A) as shown and fit it onto
the chassis (25A). Drive two
PM screws into the holes
from which the screws were
removed in the previous step.
Fix the panel to the chassis by
driving four PM screws into the
remaining holes as shown.

Align the right cockpit
housing (68B) with the
assembly as shown. Fit the
housing onto the chassis (25A)
and tubular frame (34B).
While fitting, ensure the rear
edge slides under the cockpit
bulkhead (54A) as shown by
the blue arrow.
Fix the right cockpit housing
(68B) to the tubular frame
(34B) using two IM screws
(blue arrows). Fix it to the
chassis (25A) using another
IM screw (green arrow).
