SafetyFeatures
This room air conditioner is equipped with an electronic
control to improve comfort and ensure reliability.
Compressor Lockout
To extend the life of the compressor a three-minute time
delay will occur when:
• Electrical power is first supplied to the unit.
• The thermostat is turned down immediately after
the compressor stops running.
Low Voltage Protection
This unit is equipped with “brownout” protection. In case
of an extreme brownout, the Amana control will interrupt
powertotheunittopreventcompressorfailure. Whenthe
line voltage reaches at least 100 VAC, the control will
reenergize your unit.
Note: A compressor lockout will occur after the unit is
reenergized.
Electrical Requirements
Electrical Grounding Instructions
This appliance is equipped with a three-prong grounding
plug for protection against possible shock hazards. If a
two-prong wall receptacle is encountered, the customer is
required to contact a qualified electrician and have the
two-prongwallreceptaclereplacedwithaproperlygrounded
three-prong wall receptacle in accordance with the Na-
tional Electrical Code.
Table 1 shows the electrical requirements for safe opera-
tion of the room air conditioner. Do not plug models
marked “Use on Single Outlet Circuit Only” into a circuit
with another appliance or light fixture.

FAN SPEED (LOW, MED, HIGH) - FAN
selects either a low, medium or high fan
speed to cool.
ENERGY SAVER - ENERGY SAVER mode
providesthe most energy efficient useofyour
roomairconditioner. Thisfeaturecanbeused
with SMART COOL or cooling with any fan speed.
Amana’sTemp-Asure®airsamplingsystemworkstomain-
tain the set temperature within 1.5°F while in ENERGY
SAVER mode. Approximately every 5 minutes the fan will
come on and “sample” the room air to determine if cooling
isneeded. Iftheroomiscoolenough,thefanwillcycle off.
If the room needs further cooling, the compressor will
engage along with the fan until the set temperature is
reached.
ENERGYSAVER hasasoftstart fanfeature. Thisfeature
starts the fan in low to reduce noise.
ACTION AIR - ACTION AIR provides uni-
form cooling with a power sweeping action
to move the cooled air around the room.
This feature can be turned on and off by
pressing this button.
ARROW KEYS - These keys increase or
decrease the set temperature and clock
setting.
CLOCK - The CLOCK button sets the
clock. The arrow keys adjust the time. To
exit clock mode, press the clock button.
The time of day will be displayed.
Note: Pressing this button twice quickly changes the
mode from time to temperature and vice-versa. To briefly
display the time (if temperature is currently displayed) or
temperature(iftimeiscurrentlydisplayed),presseitherthe
up or down arrow key.
TIMER - The TIMER button is used to turn
the TIMER on and off as well as set the
TIMER. The timer has four different timer
periods, P1, P2, P3, and P4. Each period can be pro-
grammed with a different temperature setting and opera-
tional mode. See page 5 for operation details.
Operation
Vent Control
Open or close the vent by sliding the vent control lever to
the appropriate setting.
EXHAUST -This settingopensthevent to moveindoorair
out.
Note: To conserve energy, the unit should be set to FAN
mode when using this setting.
CLOSED - In this position the vent is closed and room air
is recirculated and filtered. This position should be used
for all normal cooling operations.
FRESH AIR - This setting opens the vent to move outside
air indoors.
Note: To conserve energy, the unit should be set to FAN
mode when using this setting.
Unit Control
OFF - Turns the unit off. To turn the unit on,
press SMART COOL or MODE.
SMART COOL - SMART COOL adjusts the
fan speed of the unit to achieve the selected
temperature. The SMART COOL feature
uses computer logic to cool the room quickly
and quietly. Fan speeds start high, automatically switch to
medium and finally go to low as the room temperature
nears the set temperature.
MODE (COOL,DRY, FAN) - MODE is
used to switch the operational mode of the
controlbetween theCOOL,FAN,and DRY
modes. If the unit is off when this button is
pressed, the unit will come on with the last mode and
temperature setting.

Timer Operation
TIMER Mode is like a setback thermostat on a central air conditioning system. At preset times during the day, the
thermostat changes the set point (SP) and other operating settings (i.e. fan speed, mode, etc.). This allows the unit to
raise the temperature set point during hours when the house is vacant and then cool the house shortly before you arrive
home from work.
Therearefourprogrammableperiodsforevery24-hourday. Followtheeasystepsbelowtocustomizethetimerprogram
for your individual schedule. To program Periods 2 (P2) through 4 (P4), repeat steps 2 through 4. If you have not
programmed your air conditioner before, the default settings listed above will be displayed.

SLEEP-TheSLEEPbuttonstartsaprogram
that adjusts the cooling comfort level. The
program raises the cooling temperature 1°F
every hour for the next four hours.
LOCKOUT - LOCKOUT is a new child-
proof feature of the new Ultra Quiet Zone
room air conditioner. This feature pre-
vents altering of the current settings on the unit.
To activate, press and hold for two sec-
onds the up and down arrow keys at the
same time. When the LOCKOUT LED
lights up, the function is activated. The
only command that is available during
lockout is the OFF button for deactiva-
tion. To deactivate lockout, press the
arrowkeysatthesametimeandholduntil
the LOCKOUT LED goes off.
Note: Toturn offthedisplay, pressand hold theOFF and
CLOCKbuttonsatthesametimeuntilthedisplayturnsoff.
CLEAN FILTER - After 250 hours of fan
runtime, the clean filter will flash. This is
a reminder to remove and clean the filter.
To reset the counter and stop the flashing, press the OFF
button twice.

Special Features
Variable Differential Control (VDC)
This feature controls the temperature difference between
when the unit turns off and restarts especially useful for
extended periods outside the room. Normally, the unit will
cycleon and offtomaintain within 1.5°Fofthe temperature
setting. VDC enables the user to change this differential
from 1.5°F to as much as 7.0°F.
To change the differential:
Be sure the unit is off.
Press and hold the OFF and FAN SPEED buttons. When
the characters d#.## (“#.##” is the current value of the
differential) are displayed, use the arrow keys and change
the differential.
Note: The differential defaults to 1.5°F. It changes in
increments of 0.5°F. The maximum change is 7°F.
IftheOFFandFANSPEEDbuttonsarereleasedduringthe
setup,theVDCmodewillbecancelledand theunitwillshut
off.
Intellistat
This feature expands the use of normal delay timers by
using sophisticated adaptive computer logic. The delay
timer is set using the clock. Instead of turning on and off in
a preset number of hours, Intellistat works to be at the set
temperature at the set time. For example, if you want the
roomto be 72°F at5:00 p.m., the Intellistatfeaturewill start
the unit prior to 5:00 p.m. so that by 5:00 p.m. it will be at
your selected temperature.

Remote Control
The remote control gives you control of virtually all unit
functions from your armchair.
Installing Batteries
1. On the back of the remote control, press down on the
arrow and lift out.
2. Insert AA batteries. Make sure to observe the proper
polarity: (+) to (+) and (-) to (-).
3. Replace the cover.
CAUTION:
Followthese procedures to avoidleaking or cracking cells:
• Use the correct type of batteries. Batteries that look
similar may differ in voltage.
• Always replace both batteries at the same time.
• Do not expose batteries to heat or flame.
Remote Control Operation
You can operate your room air conditioner by remote
control. The only functions not available by remote control
are activating and deactivating the LOCKOUT and reset-
ting of the CLEAN FILTER timer. The SMART COOL,
ENERGYSAVER, COOL, DRY, FAN,ACTIONAIR, HIGH
FAN , MEDIUM, and LOW FAN buttons operate the same
as on the unit.
The POWER button turns the room air conditioner off and
on.
TEMPERATURE: WARMER AND COOLER raises and
lowers the temperature setting in regular mode settings.
SLEEP: Activatesand deactivatesthesleepprogram ( see
Unit Control, Sleep )
TIMER: Turns on the timer setting mode (see TIMER
OPERATION)
CLOCK: Turns on the clock setting mode. Use the Up and
Down button to change the setting.
UP AND DOWN: Increases or decreases the time when
setting the clock or timer. It also sets the temperature
setting in timer modes.

General Information
Changing Air Flow Direction
• Adjusthorizontalbafflesforchangingairupordown.
• Adjust vertical baffles to change air left or right by
turning ACTION AIR off at desired direction.
Air Flow Around Unit
Check indoor grille and outdoor louvers for air flow ob-
structions. Do not block air flow to and from unit. The
outdoor coil should be checked and periodically cleaned
fordebris that maycollectand block unitairflow. If airflow
is obstructed or deflected back into unit, the compressor
may cycle on and off rapidly, causing early compressor
failure.
Care and Maintenance
WARNING
To avoid death or personal injury due to
electrical shock, turn fan control off and
unplug power cord before cleaning or
performing maintenance. After cleaning
or performing maintenance, reconnect
power.
NOTE: The unit should be inspected by an authorized
servicer once a year to ensure proper function of the unit.
1. Once a year, remove chassis from outer case and
thoroughly clean air conditioner.
2. Wash air conditioner with warm, soapy water as
needed. Rinse and dry thoroughly.
3. If using concentrated liquid detergent, dilute in warm
water first.
4. Do not use abrasive cleaners such as Comet, Ajax,
etc. These items can scratch, crack, and discolor
surfaces.
Oceanside or Corrosive Environment
Saltair or a corrosiveenvironmentmay greatly reduce the
life of the unit. After cleaning, sand and repaint any
scratches or blisters on painted surfaces. In humid areas
where algae formation is common, place an algaecide
tablet in outdoor side of unit base pan.
Charcoal Air Filters
Your charcoal air filters isshipped in a sealed plastic bag
so it arrives fresh to you. This filter reduces smoke, odor,
pollen,andfinedust particles. It should be replaced every
4 to 6 months for optimum performance. Check with your
store to reorder filters. To replace the filter use one of the
following methods for filter removal:

Before Calling For Service
IMPORTANT NOTE: A dirty air filter reduces operating
efficiency. Inspect filter at least once every week during
operation. Wash permanent air filter with warm soapy
water. Rinsethecharcoalairfilterwithwarmwateronly. Do
not scrub! Thoroughly dry before replacing.
Fan Motor
Fan motor is permanently lubricated so there is no need to
oil motor.
Slide out Chassis
Some models feature a slide out chassis for easier instal-
lation. Refer to Installation Instructions provided with unit
for details on removing chassis from outer case.

Charcoal Air Filter Installation
Remove charcoal air filter from plastic bag. Inset the three
tabs on the right side of the filter into the three slots on the
frame. Carefully bow the middle of the filter until the two
tabs on the filter can be inserted into the two slots on the
filter frame. Relax bow.
