General InformationGeneral Information
Foreword
Arjo is dedicated to serving your needs and providing
the best products available along with training that
will bring your staff maximum benet from every
Arjo product.
All references to the patient in these instructions
refer to the person being lifted, and references to
the caregiver refer to the person who operates the
lifter or the product.
Some of the information in this manual may become
outdated, due to improvements made to the product
in the future. If you have any questions regarding
these instructions or your product, please contact
Arjo.
Arjo strongly advises and warns that only Arjo
Company Designated Parts, which are designed
for the purpose, should be used on product and
other appliances supplied by Arjo, to avoid injuries
caused by the use of inadequate parts.
The Arjo Company’s conditions of sale make
specic provision conrming no liability in such
circumstances.
Intended Use
The DUAL-LOOP ATTACHMENT
STRAPS are intended to be used with the
Ferno Scoop EXL Stretcher series in combination
with Arjo’s Maxi Move® oor lift equipped with a
compatible stretcher frame and only for transfer
purposes.
The
Ferno Scoop EXL Stretcher is intended to be
exclusively operated by a trained caregiver (as per
the product Users’ Manual) for transferring patients
who have been assessed as requiring lifting in a
supine position. No functions regarding the control
of this product should be performed by the patient.
The DUAL-LOOP ATTACHMENT STRAPS are
part of a series of quality products designed for
hospitals, nursing homes, long-term care and home
care environments, including private homes.
Operational Life
The DUAL-LOOP ATTACHMENT STRAPS have
been produced and tested for a life span of two
(2) years starting from the manufacturing date—
subject to maintenance as specied in the Care and
Maintenance section of this manual. Refer to the
manufacturing date on the strap labels.
WARNING: Arjo cannot ensure full safety for
an accessory of which the life span has been
exceeded.
The life span of this product is the safe operating
time period before an overhaul is required. Aging,
the weight of the patient and maintenance frequency
are factors that have an impact on the life span of
the DUAL-LOOP ATTACHMENT STRAPS.

WARNING: The DUAL-LOOP ATTACHMENT
STRAPS must be used as per instructions found
herein as well as the User’s Manual issued with
the Ferno Scoop EXL Stretcher, the lifter and
the stretcher frame.
The DUAL-LOOP ATTACHMENT
STRAPS are intended to be used with the
Ferno Scoop EXL Stretcher accessory in
combination with Arjo Maxi Move oor lift with
a compatible stretcher frame and only for
transferring purposes.
Failure to follow these instructions may result in
patients falling, causing injuries.
Before using your DUAL-LOOP ATTACHMENT
STRAPS, familiarise yourself with the various parts
and compatible accessories as illustrated in Fig. 1. 1
and Fig. 2 then read this manual in its entirety.
Prior to rst use, install the labels included with this
product to the four attachment points. See Fig.1.
Information in the manual is crucial to the proper
operation and maintenance of the product. It will
help protect your product and ensure that it performs
to your satisfaction.
The information in this booklet is important for your
safety and must be read and understood to help
prevent possible injuries.
If there is anything in the manual that is confusing
or hard to understand, call Arjo or their vendor (the
telephone number appears on the last page of this
manual.)
Safe Working Load
The DUAL-LOOP ATTACHMENT STRAPS have
been made with a lifting capacity of 227 kg (500 lb).
WARNING: The DUAL LOOP ATTACHMENT
STRAPS are intended to be used for patients
whose weight is within a specied safe working
load. Do not attempt to lift more than the lowest
weight limit indicated on the following:
• The lift;
• The Ferno Scoop EXL Stretcher
(160 kg [350 lb]);
• The accessories.
Failure to follow these instructions may result in
patients falling, causing injury.
Safety Directions
Always ensure that:
• Care is taken when manually lifting
alternative / optional components (e.g.
stretcher frames, spreader bars etc.,)
to avoid injuries. Do not attempt to
manually lift the complete lifter.
• The need for a second attendant to
support the patient must be assessed
for each individual case.
• Before an attempt is made to move the
patient, an assessment is performed
by a qualied professional.
• You are prepared before attempting
to transfer a patient.
• An assessment of the suitability for
transfer of a patient who is connected to
electrodes, catheters or other medical
devices is conducted by qualied personnel
before performing the transfer.
• Violent impact during transfers is avoided.
•
WARNING: Always inspect the DUAL-LOOP
ATTACHMENT STRAPS prior each use
in search of irregularities as per Care and
Maintenance section on page 8.
Failure to follow these instructions may result in
patients falling, causing injuries.
• The straps are properly fastened.
• The transfer procedures outlined
in this manual are followed.
• The straps are cleaned and
maintained according to the Care and
Maintenance section of this manual.

Using the Ferno Scoop EXL Stretcher
with the Maxi Move
Lifting from a Bed or Hospital Stretcher
The following procedure should only be performed
using the
DUAL-LOOP ATTACHMENT STRAPS .
WARNING: Inspect the straps prior to each use.
See “Straps Inspection” on page 8. Never
use a strap if damaged or badly worn as it may
result in the patient falling, causing injuries.
WARNING: To prevent the Maxi Move from
tipping, resulting in patient falls and injuries, the
Maxi Move must be used with legs open at all
times. The patient should be kept at nearly bed
height or lower and transfers must always be
performed on at, level surfaces or oors.
1) Install the stretcher frame on the Maxi Move
(refer to the
Maxi Move Instructions for Use
No.001.25060.**
).
2) Position the patient onto the Ferno Scoop EXL
Stretcher
(refer to the product’s Users’ Manual).
3) Make sure that the DUAL-LOOP ATTACHMENT
STRAPS
have been installed in the correct
locations. If the four straps have not yet been
attached to the
Ferno Scoop EXL Stretcher,
proceed to attach them according to the precise
locations and in the correct way as shown in
Fig. 3.

4) Bring the stretcher frame over to the patient and
align the stretcher frame’s suspension point
labels with the installed attachment straps.
Lower the stretcher frame sufciently to be able
to connect the attachment straps securely on
the hooks (See Fig. 4).

WARNING: When lowering the stretcher frame,
over the patient, be careful that it does not
accidentally strike the patient.
5) Attach all the straps to the stretcher frame.
Choose the loop to use (long or short) at
head section and at foot section depending
on patient’s morphology. Most of the time long
loops can be used everywhere. See Fig. 5.

WARNING: Use only the hooks identied by the
“Suspension Point” labels (see Fig. 5), on the
stretcher frame to attach the Ferno Scoop EXL
Stretcher
to the frame. Failure to follow these
instructions may result in patient falls causing
injuries.
WARNING: Always check that all the DUAL-
LOOP ATTACHMENT STRAPS
remain secured
as the patient’s weight is taken up. A strap that
is incorrectly fastened could detach, resulting in
the patient falling.

WARNING: Before raising the patient, always
make sure the
Ferno Scoop EXL Stretcher is
not caught on any obstructions (i.e. the bed
headboard or footboard). Catching on such an
obstruction could result in the patient falling.
6) Raise the patient sufciently to clear the bed/
hospital stretcher (See Fig. 6).

7) Proceed with the transfer.
NOTE: When transferring the patient through a
door, rotate the stretcher frame until the patient’s
head is close to the mast (see Fig. 7). In this
position, the complete unit may be moved through
wide doorways.

8) Lower the patient down onto the new location.

9) When the patient’s body weight is fully
unsupported, unhook the straps from the
stretcher frame.
10) Roll the Maxi Move away.
11) Open the latches and gently slide the two
stretcher sections from underneath the patient.
Reconnect the
Ferno Scoop EXL Stretcher for
further use.

Recommended Cleaning
WARNING: Cleaning products must be used in
accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.
To prevent injuries, always wear protection for
eye, hand and clothing when handling cleaning
products.
The DUAL-LOOP ATTACHMENT STRAPS should
be inspected between each patient use and cleaned
if needed.
Cleaning the Straps
The laundering staff or service must be aware of the
following care instructions:
• washing temperature must not
exceed 80°C (176°F),
• always use mild detergents,
• never wring, press or iron,
• never bleach,
• rinse thoroughly,
• never tumble dry,
• never place in contact with a heat source,
• never dry clean.
Refer to the care label on the strap (See Fig. 9).

Storage conditions
Straps should be store away from direct sunlight,
stress, pressure, excessive heat or humidity. The
straps should be kept away from contact with sharp
objects, corrosives or other possible damaging
material.
Strap Inspection
Look for any sign of irregularities as shown in Fig. 10 .

WARNING: If the strap inspection reveals any
signs of irregularities, stop using the strap.
If you have any doubts about the strap’s safety,
replace it with a new one.
Continuing to use a damaged strap can seriously
compromise the caregiver’s or patient’s safety.
Verify the manufacturing date label found on each
attachment strap (shown in Fig. 11) to ensure that
the straps have not exceeded their life span.
