gebruikershandleiding goed door te lezen, voordat u met de Babboe bakfiets op pad gaat.
De gebruikershandleiding geeft informatie over het gebruik en de bediening van de
trapondersteuning, de accu en het gebruik van de accu. Daarnaast geven wij advies en tips
over het fietsen op uw Babboe bakfiets en uitleg over de garantie en het onderhoud.

FIETSEN MET TRAPONDERSTEUNING
Wat is trapondersteuning?
Uw Babboe bakfiets is voorzien van elektrische trapondersteuning. Trapondersteuning
betekent dat u tijdens het fietsen wordt geholpen door een elektromotor. Gaan de pedalen
niet rond, dan doet de motor niets. Wanneer de trapondersteuning wordt ingeschakeld,
dan is de acceleratie die de motor biedt groot, zodat u gemakkelijk op gang wordt
geholpen. Door veel mensen wordt het fietsen met trapondersteuning ervaren als fietsen
met wind in de rug.
Fietsen met trapondersteuning
Door de krachtige trapondersteuning zult u
gemakkelijker hogere snelheden halen dan u
wellicht gewend bent. Wij adviseren de Babboe
bakfiets eerst uit te proberen in een rustige
omgeving en zonder kinderen in de bak. Op deze
manier kunt u wennen aan uw nieuwe bakfiets.
Zet de trapondersteuning pas aan wanneer u het
gevoel heeft dat u veilig en zeker op de Babboe
bakfiets fietst. Let goed op bij de bochten, wij
adviseren de snelheid in de bochten te reduceren tot stapvoets. De trapondersteuning
wordt onderbroken indien u niet meer trapt. Zodra u vervolgens weer gaat trappen, slaat
de ondersteuning automatisch weer aan.
Wegfietsen met uw Babboe bakfiets is, als de trapondersteuning is ingeschakeld, anders
dan bij een niet-elektrische (bak)fiets. Dit zal makkelijker gaan dan u wellicht gewend
bent. Wij raden aan om een laag trapondersteuningsniveau te gebruiken voor het
wegfietsen uit stilstand. Ook als u langzaam fietst, adviseren we gebruik te maken van
een lage stand, wanneer u sneller fietst kunt u het trapondersteuningsniveau verhogen.
Gebruik de hoogste standen enkel op het moment dat u deze nodig heeft, om gevaarlijke
situaties te voorkomen en om efficiënter en zuiniger te fietsen met uw Babboe bakfiets. De
trapondersteuning is wettelijk begrensd op een snelheid van 25 km/u. Dat wil zeggen dat
wanneer u richting een snelheid van 25 km/u gaat, de trapondersteuning geleidelijk zal
afnemen tot nul.
Als de trapondersteuning uit staat, fietst de Baboe bakfiets iets zwaarder dan een
niet-elektrische bakfiets. Daarmee is de Babboe bakfiets wel gewoon te gebruiken. Let
hierbij op dat wanneer u zonder accu fietst of wanneer de display is uitgeschakeld, de
achterverlichting niet werkt!
Let op
• Schakel de trapondersteuning naar de 0-stand of schakel het systeem helemaal
uit wanneer u van de Babboe bakfiets afstapt. Loop nooit met ingeschakelde
trapondersteuning, omdat de Babboe bakfiets ineens naar voren kan schieten als
u per ongeluk tegen de trappers aankomt. Wanneer u tijdens het lopen toch de
trapondersteuning wilt aanzetten, gebruik dan de walk-assistfunctie (zie ‘Display &
bediening’ op de volgende pagina)
• Rijd altijd met vingers aan de remmen, zodat u snel kunt reageren op het moment
dat u eventueel moet remmen. Stop met trappen tijdens het remmen en probeer
met beide remhendels tegelijk en gelijkmatig te remmen. Houd beide remmen
ingeknepen wanneer u stilstaat met ingeschakelde trapondersteuning bij
bijvoorbeeld een stoplicht.
• Schakel de ondersteuning uit bij een slecht of glad wegdek of wanneer u rustig wilt
fietsen.
Versnellingen en schakelen
Uw Babboe bakfiets heeft 7 versnellingen. Gedurende het fietsen kunt u opschakelen
in de versnelling van 1 tot en met 7. U kunt door middel van de versteller (rechts op het
stuur) de gewenste versnelling kiezen. Met uw wijsvinger trekt u de versteller naar u toe
om een versnelling hoger te schakelen. Met uw duim duwt u de versteller van u af om een
versnelling lager te schakelen.
Uiteraard is het ook mogelijk zonder elektrische ondersteuning te fietsen op uw
Babboe bakfiets. Wanneer de motor uit staat, kunt u gewoon gebruik maken van de 7
versnellingen.
Let op
• Uw fiets is voorzien van een Shimano derailleur-systeem. In tegenstelling tot een
versnellingsnaaf dient u bij het schakelen door te trappen (zonder kracht te zetten).
Dat betekent dat u ver voor het stoppen (bij bijvoorbeeld een stoplicht) moet
terugschakelen.
• Zorg dat u altijd in de eerste of tweede versnelling wegrijdt. U mag niet schakelen uit
stilstand.
• Trap nooit achteruit! Hierdoor kan de ketting eraf lopen en de Babboe bakfiets schade
oplopen.

DISPLAY & BEDIENING
Om gebruik te kunnen maken van de trapondersteuning, plaats u de accu in uw Babboe
bakfiets.
Plus- en min-knop
Schakel het elektrische systeem aan door de
plusknop in te drukken. Om het systeem uit te
schakelen houdt u de plusknop langer ingedrukt.
Het systeem schakelt een trapondersteuningsniveau
omhoog door de plusknop kort in te drukken. Door
de min-knop kort in te drukken, schakelt het systeem
een trapondersteuningsniveau omlaag. De motor
geeft ondersteuning in de eerste tot en met de
hoogste stand.
Lichtknop
De indicator van de lichtknop geeft de status van de achterverlichting aan. Door de
lichtknop kort in te drukken, schakelt de achterverlichting aan of uit. De voorzijde is
voorzien van batterijverlichting en deze is direct op de lampjes te bedienen (en niet via het
display).
Walk-assist (loopstand)
De Babboe bakfiets heeft een walk-assistfunctie, dat wil zeggen dat tijdens het lopen met
de bakfiets aan de hand de ondersteuning ook kan worden ingeschakeld. De walk-assist
schakelt in door de min-knop in te drukken en deze tijdens het lopen ingedrukt te houden.
De walk-assist kent een snelheid van ongeveer 5 km/u. De functie mag alleen gebruikt
worden wanneer u de Babboe bakfiets lopend duwt.
Accu-indicator (op display)
Op de display staan vier rode led-lampjes afgebeeld. Elk lampje van de accu-indicator is
ongeveer gelijk aan 25% van de totale accucapaciteit. Bij vier brandende lampjes is de
batterij dus ongeveer 75-100% vol. Wanneer er geen enkel lampje op de accu-indicator
brandt, zal de motor geleidelijk ophouden met ondersteunen.
Let op
• Op de accu kunt u ook de accustatus zien. Het kan zijn dat de status op de accu iets
verschilt met de accustatus op het display. De accustatus op de accu is leidend. Zodra
u uw Babboe bakfiets in gebruik neemt, zal de status op het display zo goed als
overeenkomen met de status op de accu.
Trapondersteuningsindicator
De indicator geeft aan in welk trapondersteuningsniveau de Babboe bakfiets is
ingeschakeld. Deze kent 6 verschillende standen en een 0-stand. Aan de hand van
het rode led-lampje kunt u zien in welk trapondersteuningsniveau de Babboe bakfiets
is ingeschakeld. In de 0-stand geeft het systeem geen ondersteuning, maar zijn de
verlichting en de walk-assistfunctie wel beschikbaar. Met de plus- en min-knop kunt u het
trapondersteuningsniveau aanpassen.
Let op
• In de 0-stand en wanneer de walk-assist is ingeschakeld, is geen led-lampje
zichtbaar.

STORINGSCODES DISPLAY
Indien de trapondersteuning niet naar behoren werkt, raden wij aan om eerst de
verschillende kabelaansluitingen te controleren en na te gaan of de batterij voldoende
opgeladen is. Zoals bij elk elektronisch systeem kan er alsnog een storing optreden. Neem
in dat geval contact op met de Babboe serviceafdeling, zodat een eventuele reparatie snel
uitgevoerd kan worden.
Hieronder ziet u de meest voorkomende storingen en welke actie u vervolgens kunt
ondernemen.

ACCU & OPLADEN
Actieradius (bereik)
De actieradius is de totaalafstand die u per rit kunt afleggen met uw elektrische Babboe
bakfiets zonder tussentijds op te laden.
De gemiddelde actieradius van uw elektrische Babboe bakfiets is normaliter >
40 km. Echter is de actieradius van veel factoren afhankelijk. Er is een aantal
beïnvloedingsfactoren die de actieradius aanzienlijk kunnen verkorten. Veel van deze
factoren kunt u ondervangen, zodat de actieradius positief wordt beïnvloed.
Beïnvloedingsfactoren actieradius:
• Het totaalgewicht (gewicht van de bakfiets + fietser + belading in de bak)
• De weerstand (windkracht, bandenspanning*, versnelling, conditie van het wegdek en
hoogteverschillen)
• Uw rijgedrag (tijdig op- en afschakelen en gereden snelheid)
• De buitentemperatuur
• Leeftijd van de accu (accucapaciteit neemt af naarmate de accu ouder wordt)
*Banden lopen langzaam leeg, breng de banden van uw Babboe bakfiets daarom elke
twee weken weer op druk.
Let op
• Om de actieradius te verlengen, zal de topsnelheid van de ondersteuning langzaam
afnemen naarmate de batterij minder vol wordt.
• De prestaties van uw accu zullen bij lage temperaturen afnemen. De genoemde
actieradius is optimaal bij een gemeten temperatuur van ongeveer +/-25 °C. De
richtlijn is dat de capaciteit met 1 % afneemt bij een temperatuurdaling van 1 °C.
Capaciteit van de accu
De accu van uw Babboe bakfiets heeft een capaciteit van 10.4 Ah en een spanning van 36
Volt. De accu levert 375 Wh.
Let op
• Om de maximale capaciteit van de accu te kunnen bereiken, dient de accu tenminste
10 keer volledig opgeladen/ontladen te worden.
• Per jaar kan de capaciteit tot 15% afnemen. De afname is afhankelijk van het gebruik
en laadcycli. Het kan voorkomen dat tegelijk gekochte en dezelfde Babboe bakfietsen
een andere actieradius geven. Nieuwe accu’s geven minimaal hun opgegeven
waardes. Hier zit een lichte variatie in. Het kan dus zijn dat één van de Babboe
bakfietsen boven specificaties presteert.
Accu-indicator (op accu)
Op de accu kunt u zien hoe vol de accu is. Druk hiervoor op de knop aan de
linkerachterzijde van de accu bij de accustatus-indicator. Het eerste lampje van de vijf zal
vervolgens rood gaan branden. Elk van de overige vier lampjes van de accu-indicator is
ongeveer gelijk met 25% van de totale accucapaciteit. Bij vier brandende groene lampjes is
de batterij dus ongeveer 75-100% vol. Wanneer er geen enkel groen lampje op de accu-
indicator brandt, zal de motor geleidelijk ophouden met ondersteunen.
Let op
• Op de display kunt u ook de status van de accu zien. Het kan zijn dat de status op de
accu verschilt met de accustatus op de display. De accustatus op de accu is leidend.
Zodra u uw Babboe bakfiets in gebruik neemt en de trapondersteuning inschakelt, zal
de status op de display zo goed als overeenkomen met de status op de accu.
Usb-aansluiting
De accu is voorzien van een usb-aansluiting. Hiermee kunt u de accu gebruiken als
extra energiestation voor bijvoorbeeld uw smartphone, laptop of tablet. U vindt de usb-
aansluiting aan de onderkant van de accu en is afgeschermd door een rubberen dopje.
Accu plaatsen en loskoppelen
Zowel bij het plaatsen als loskoppelen van de accu
dient de trapondersteuning altijd uitgeschakeld te
zijn. Wanneer u de accu in uw Babboe bakfiets wilt
plaatsen, schuift u de accu in de controllerbox (bij de
bagagedrager), totdat u een klik hoort. Vergrendel de
accu vervolgens door middel van het accuslot. Het
accuslot vindt u aan de linkerkant op de controllerbox.
Om het accuslot te vergrendelen, steekt u de accusleutel
in het slot en draait u deze linksom.
Wanneer u de accu wilt loskoppelen, ontgrendelt u eerst het accuslot door de accusleutel
rechtsom te draaien. Vervolgens haalt u de accu uit de controllerbox door deze via het
handvat aan de onderkant van de accu eruit te trekken.
Tip
Verwijder de accusleutel uit het accuslot, nadat u de accu heeft geplaatst of losgekoppeld,
zodat u de sleutel minder snel kwijt kunt raken. Maak de accusleutel bijvoorbeeld vast
aan uw fietssleutel. Op deze manier heeft u, nadat u de accu heeft vergrendeld, beide
sleutels mee en kunt u de accusleutel niet vergeten. Bewaar de reservesleutels altijd als
een aparte sleutelbos.

Let op
• Accu’s lopen langzaam leeg, ook als de bakfiets niet wordt gebruikt. Haal daarom de
accu uit uw Babboe bakfiets en bewaar deze thuis, indien de bakfiets niet in gebruik
wordt genomen.
• Het opbergen en opladen van de accu dient altijd op een (brand)veilige plaats te
gebeuren.
• Stel de batterij niet bloot aan hoge temperaturen (> 50 °C), zoals verwarming en vuur.
• Haal de batterij niet uit elkaar. Raadpleeg de Babboe serviceafdeling bij problemen.
Plaats de accu op een schaduwrijke, koele en droge plek bij langdurige opslag.
Accu opladen
Met de bijgeleverde lader kunt u de accu opladen. U kunt de accu zowel in uw Babboe
bakfiets als buiten de bakfiets opladen. Het laadpunt van de accu is afgedekt door een
draaibaar kunststof klepje. Tijdens het laden zal er op de lader een rood lampje zichtbaar
zijn. Wanneer dit lampje groen wordt, is de accu volledig opgeladen, dit duurt ongeveer 5
uur (95% opgeladen).
Let op
• Het opladen van de accu dient altijd op een (brand)veilige plaats te gebeuren.
• Rol de snoeren van de oplader tijdens het opladen volledig uit.
• Sluit het positieve contact van de batterij nooit aan op het negatieve contact.
• Zorg ervoor dat u de accu in ieder geval eens in de 3 maanden volledig oplaadt (niet
langer dan 48 uur aan de oplader). Wanneer de accu lange tijd niet wordt gebruikt,
kan deze namelijk onherstelbare schade oplopen.
• Laad de accu direct op wanneer de accu volledig leeg is. Cellen die langere tijd leeg
staan, kunnen namelijk onherstelbaar beschadigd raken.
• Maak alleen gebruik van de meegeleverde oplader en gebruik de accu en oplader
alleen voor uw Babboe bakfiets.
• Steek geen voorwerpen in de lader en stel zowel de lader als de accu en elektronica
niet bloot aan teveel warmte, water of andere vloeistoffen.
• Gebruik uw acculader alleen op droge, goed geventileerde plekken.
• De acculader is niet bestand tegen vocht en/of valschokken.

GEBRUIKSTIPS
Fietsen
Fietsen op een driewielbakfiets zal vast even wennen zijn, aangezien de stuurbeweging
anders is dan bij een gewone fiets. Het stuur is aan de bak gefixeerd en in feite stuurt u
met de bak van links naar rechts en andersom. Blijf altijd rustig rechtop zitten, ook bij het
bochtenwerk. Bij zeer scherpe bochten kunt u uw hand aan de buitenkant los laten zodat u
niet overdreven meehangt. Houd deze hand wel in de buurt van de remmen, zodat u direct
kunt remmen indien nodig. Meer informatie kunt u vinden op www.babboe.nl.
Parkeerrem
De parkeerrem bevindt zich in de linker remgreep. Om de fiets op de parkeerrem te
kunnen plaatsen, knijpt u de remgreep in. Druk het zwarte hendeltje in en laat vervolgens
de remgreep los. De greep wordt nu geborgd en de fiets staat op de parkeerrem.
Stuur verstellen
Het is mogelijk om de hoogte en de hoek van het stuur te wijzigen. Draai hiervoor de
stuurpen los en zet het stuur in de gewenste stand. Zorg dat u het stuur niet te ver uittrekt.
Let hierbij op het streepje op de stuurpen die de maximale toegestane positie bepaald.
Wanneer u het stuur in de juiste positie heeft gezet, draait u de stuurpen weer vast.
Banden- en spaakspanning
Om comfortabel en licht te kunnen blijven fietsen, dient de bandenspanning op peil te
zijn. Dit betekent een bandenspanning van 3,5-4 bar. Hoe harder de banden, hoe lichter
en comfortabeler de Babboe bakfiets fietst. Controleer regelmatig de spanning van de
spaken. Wanneer deze ‘los’ zitten, laat ze dan spannen bij een erkende fietsenmaker of
een Babboe-monteur.
Verlichting
De elektrische Babboe Big is zowel aan de voor- als achterzijde voorzien van verlichting.
De achterverlichting werkt op de accu en is via de indicator op de display te bedienen. De
voorzijde is voorzien van batterijverlichting en is direct op de lampjes te bedienen (en niet
via het display). De voorlampjes branden knipperend of permanent. Kies hierbij altijd voor
de permanente stand.
Accessoires
Voor de elektrische Babboe Big zijn er verschillende leuke en functionele accessoires
beschikbaar. Zo hebben we bijvoorbeeld de babyschaal, peuterstoel en verschillende
kussensets om uw kindjes veilig mee te nemen in de bakfiets, accessoires die uw kindjes
beschermen tegen de regen of zon, zoals de regentent, het zonnedakje en verschillende
bakfietshoezen en vrolijke stickers en bakplakkers om het ritje op uw bakfiets nog
gezelliger te maken. Babboe is continu op zoek naar nieuwe accessoires, dus

GARANTIE EN ONDERHOUD
Garantie
Om de garantie op uw Babboe bakfiets te behouden, is het van belang dat binnen 4-12
weken (of na 100 km bij intensief gebruik) een controlebeurt wordt uitgevoerd om de
belangrijkste onderdelen (o.a. versnellingen, spaken, remmen) te controleren. Dat kan
zowel bij de lokale fietsenmaker als door een Babboe-monteur. De eerste controlebeurt
kunt u in onze webshop (www.babboe.nl) bestellen, maar u kunt daar ook terecht voor
reparaties, taxatierapporten en onderhoudsbeurten. Een Babboe-monteur komt altijd bij
u thuis.
Onderhoud
De elektrische Babboe Big bevat hoogwaardige onderdelen, maar onderhoud aan uw
Babboe bakfiets is belangrijk. Smeer tijdig bewegende delen en zorg ervoor dat de kabels,
bijvoorbeeld bij vorst, soepel blijven. Achterin deze handleiding vindt u ruimte om een
onderhoudsoverzicht bij te houden. Bewaar voor de garantie de bonnen van de controle-
en onderhoudsbeurten. Kijk voor uitgebreide onderhoudstips bij ‘Klantenservice’ op
www.babboe.nl.
Onderhoud houten bak
De bak is bestand tegen het Hollandse klimaat – toch raden we u aan altijd een
regendek, regentent of bakfietshoes te gebruiken. Hiermee beschermt u de bak tegen de
verschillende weersinvloeden. Ook kan de bak beschadigd raken door bijvoorbeeld het
in- en uitklimmen van kinderen. Schade aan de lak maakt het hout mogelijk kwetsbaar
voor vocht. Mochten er beschadigingen optreden op de vlakke delen of de kopse kanten,
behandel deze dan met een blanke lak, geschikt voor buiten. Dan kan er geen vocht in het
hout dringen.
Schoonmaken
U kunt uw Babboe bakfiets schoonmaken door eerst met een zachte borstel het vuil te
verwijderen en vervolgens met warm water de bakfiets te wassen. Zo ziet uw Babboe
bakfiets er weer als nieuw uit. Een regelmatige schoonmaakbeurt van de Babboe bakfiets
bevordert de levensduur. Pas op met overvloedig gebruik van water in de buurt van
elektronica en de accu. Zorg ervoor dat ook tussen het sensorplaatje in de sensor (bij de
trapas) geen vuil komt. Bij het schoonmaken van de Babboe bakfiets, kunt u het beste de
accu uit de bakfiets halen. Gebruik nooit een hogedrukreiniger! Veel delen van de Babboe
bakfiets hebben vet/olie of vaseline nodig. Was dit niet weg of breng dit na het wassen
meteen weer aan.
Behandelen
Behalve een regelmatige schoonmaakbeurt is het verstandig om bepaalde onderdelen
na het schoonmaken direct te behandelen. Zo adviseren wij om verchroomde delen,
ongelakt aluminium en roestvrijstalen onderdelen in te vetten met zuurvrije vaseline om
oxidatie (roest) te voorkomen. Draaiende delen hebben vet/olie nodig. Het is aan te raden
de ketting, tandwielen en assen regelmatig te smeren. Om roestvorming te voorkomen,
adviseren wij om bij lakschade aan uw bakfiets deze schade geregeld bij te werken.
Algemene controle
Controleer regelmatig het volgende:
• Is de accu opgeladen?
• Werken de remmen nog zoals het hoort? Zitten remmen, bouten en moeren nog goed
vast? Zijn de kabels niet beschadigd? Zijn de remoppervlakken schoon en vetvrij?
Zijn de remblokken niet versleten?
• Zit de stuurpen goed vast? Zit het zadel goed vast?
• Zitten de handvaten nog goed vast?
• Is de spanning van de spaken nog voldoende? Zit er geen slag in het wiel? Zijn er geen
spaken gebroken? Zit er geen speling in de wielen?
• Hebben de banden de juiste spanning? Zit er nog voldoende profiel op de banden?
• Werken de lichten? Is de fiets goed zichtbaar in het donker? Zijn de reflecterende
strippen op de banden aanwezig en zo ja, zijn ze schoon?
• Werkt de trapondersteuning naar behoren?
• Werken de versnellingen naar behoren?
• Is de kettingspanning juist?
• Is de fiets toe aan een schoonmaakbeurt?
• Heeft de fiets recent een onderhoudsbeurt gekregen?
Let op
• Spuit uw Babboe bakfiets niet schoon met een harde waterstraal of hogedrukspuit.

CYCLING WITH PEDAL ASSISTANCE
What is pedal assistance?
Your Babboe cargo bike is equipped with electric pedal assistance. This means that an
electric motor enhances your efforts, thus increasing your performance while you deliver
less power. If the pedals are not rotated the motor will not work. When pedal assistance is
enabled, the acceleration is high so you have an easy start. From experience, cyclists say
that pedal assistance is similar to cycling with tailwind.
Cycling with pedal assistance
With the powerful pedal assistance you will easily reach a higher speed than you are used
to. We therefore recommend that you first try the
Babboe cargo bike in a low traffic environment and
without children in the cargo bike. This is the best
and safest way to get used to riding your new cargo
bike. Only turn on the pedal assistance once you feel
confident about safely cycling on the Babboe cargo
bike. We recommend that you pay attention and
reduce speed to walking pace when turning corners.
The pedal assistance will stop if you stop pedalling.
Once you start pedalling again, the pedal assistance will automatically start again.
When the pedal assistance is on, cycling off with your Babboe cargo bike is very different
to a non-electric (cargo) bike. It is easier than you might be used to. We recommend to
use a low pedal assistance level when starting to cycle from stand. Also, if you are cycling
slowly, we recommend using a low level; when you increase speed you can increase the
level of pedal assistance. To avoid dangerous situations and to cycle more efficiently and
economically use the highest levels only when needed. The pedal assistance is legally
limited to a speed of 25 km/h. This means that when you reach the speed of 25 km/h, the
pedal assistance will gradually decrease to zero.
If the pedal assistance is turned off, it is slightly more strenuous to cycle on this Babboe
cargo bike in comparison to a non-electriccargo bike. Please note that when you use the
bike without a battery or if the display is off, the rear light does not work!
Important! Please note:
• Change the pedal assistance to the 0 level or switch the system off completely when
you step off the Babboe cargo bike. Never walk with the pedal assistance activated
because the Babboe cargo bike can suddenly shoot forward if you rotate the pedals
by accident. If you wish to turn on the pedal assistance when walking, use the walk-
assist function (see ‘Display & Controls’ on the next page)
• Always keep your fingers on the brake levers, so you can respond quickly if you
have to brake. Stop pedalling when braking and try to brake with both hands
simultaneously and evenly. Hold both brake levers tight when stationary with the
pedal assistance in gear, for example by a trafficlight.
• Switch the pedal assistance off when cycling on a bad or slippery road or when you
want to cycle slowly.
Shifting Gears
Your Babboe cargo bike has 7 gears. When cycling you can shift gears from 1 to 7. Through
the gripshifter (right on the handlebar) you can select the desired gear. Of course it is also
possible to use your Babboe cargo bike without electric assistance. When the motor is off,
you can simply use the 7 gears.
Important! Please note:
• Your bike features a Shimano derailleur system. Unlike a hub gear, you need to keep
cycling (but without force on the pedals) when you shift gears.
This means that you have to downshift well in time before stopping (for example, at
traffic lights).
• Make sure you always start in first or second gear. You can not shift gears from
standstill.
• Never pedal backwards! The chain can fall off and it can cause damage to the Babboe
cargo bike.

DISPLAY & CONTROLS
Insert the battery into your Babboe cargo bike to make use of the pedal assistance.
Plus and minus button
Switch on the electrical system by pressing the ‘plus’ button. To turn off the system, hold
the ‘plus’ button down for longer. By pressing the
‘plus’ button briefly, the system increases the level
of pedal assistance. By pressing the ‘minus’ button
briefly, the system decreases the level of pedal
assistance. The motor provides support from the first
all the way to the highest level.
Lighting indicator
The lighting indicator displays the status of the rear
light. By briefly pressing the button, the rear light will switch on or off. The front of the bike
is equipped with battery lights and these can be operated on the light itself (and not via
the display).
Walk-assist (walking distance)
The Babboe cargo bike has a walk-assist function, which means that the assistance
can also be enabled while walking next to the cargo bike. Walk-assist is switched on by
pressing the ‘minus’ button and holding it down while walking. Walk-assist has a speed
of about 5 km/h. The function should only be used when the Babboe cargo bike is pushed
along when walking.
Battery indicator (on display)
There are four red LEDs on the display. Each light on the battery indicator is equal to
approximately 25% of the total battery capacity. With four burning lights, the battery is
approximately 75-100% full. When there is no light on the battery indicator the motor will
gradually cease assistance.
Important! Please note:
• You can see the battery status on the battery. It is possible that the status of the
battery is slightly different to the battery status on the display. The battery status on
the battery is most accurate. Once you start using your Babboe cargo bike, the status
on the display should match the status of the battery.
Pedal assistance indicator
The indicator shows which pedal assistance level the Babboe cargo bike is on. This has 6
different levels and a 0 level. You can see which level the pedal assistance is on by looking
at the red LED light. In level 0, the system does not provide any assistance, but the lighting
and walk-assist function are still available. You can adjust the level of the pedal assistance
with the ‘plus’ and ‘minus’ buttons.
Important! Please note:
• In level 0 and when walk-assist is activated, there is no LED light visible.

ERROR CODE DISPLAY
If the pedal assistance is not working properly, we recommend that you first check the
various cable connections and verify that the battery is sufficiently charged. As with any
electronic system, a malfunction is possible. If this is the case, please contact your Babboe
dealer so that any repairs can be performed quickly.
Here are the most common errors and the actions you can take to resolve them.

BATTERY & CHARGING
Range
The range is the total distance you can travel with your electric Babboe cargo bike on a
single trip without recharging.
The average range of your electric Babboe cargo bike is typically > 40 km. However, the
range is dependent on many factors that can significantly shorten the range. Many of these
factors can be overcome to positively affect the range.
Influencing factors:
• The total weight (weight of the cargo bike + rider + load in the box)
• The resistance (wind, tire pressure*, speed, road conditions and differences in
altitude)
• Your driving behaviour (shifting gears up and down in a timely manner and driving
speed)
• The outdoor temperature
• Age of the battery (battery capacity decreases as the battery ages)
* Tires slowly deflate. Make sure you pump more air in the tires of your Babboe cargo bike
every two weeks.
Important! Please note:
• To extend the range, the top speed of the assistance will slowly decrease as the
battery drains.
• The performance of your battery will decrease at low temperatures. The range is
optimal at a measured temperature of approximately +/-25 °C. The guideline is that
the capacity decreases by 1% with a temperature drop of 1 °C.
Capacity of the battery
The battery of your Babboe cargo bike has a capacity of 10.4 Ah and a voltage of 36 volts.
The battery provides 375 Wh.
Important! Please note:
• In order to reach the maximum capacity of the battery, it must be fully charged/
discharged at least 10 times.
• Each year, the capacity may be reduced with up to 15%. The decrease is dependent
on the usage and charging cycles. It may happen that Babboe cargo bikes purchased
at the same time have different ranges. New batteries provide at least their minimum
specified values, but there could be a slight variation. It is possible that one of the
Babboe cargo bikes performs above the specifications.
Battery indicator (on battery)
You can see how full the battery is on the battery. Simply press the button at the left
on the back of the battery, which is the battery status indicator. The first of the five
lights will turn red. Each of the other four lights of the battery indicator is equivalent to
approximately 25% of the total battery capacity. With four burning green lights, the battery
is approximately 75-100% full. If there is no green light on the battery indicator, the motor
will gradually cease assistance.
Important! Please note:
• The display also shows the status of the battery. It is possible that the status of the
battery is slightly different to the battery status on the display. The battery status on
the battery is most accurate. Once you start using your Babboe cargo bike and the
pedal assistance, the status on the display should match the status of the battery.
USB connection
The battery is equipped with a USB connection. This allows you to use the battery as an
extra power station for example, for your smartphone, laptop or tablet. You can find the
USB connection on the bottom of the battery and it is protected by a rubber cap.
Inserting and disconnecting the battery
Inserting and disconnecting the battery
The pedal assistance must always be switched off when
inserting or disconnecting the battery. If you want to
insert the battery in your Babboe cargo bike, slide the
battery into the controller box (by the rear carrier), until
you hear a click. Then lock the battery using the battery
key, which is located on the left side of the controller box.
To lock the battery, insert the battery key into the lock
and turn it counter clockwise.
To disconnect the battery, unlock the battery lock with the battery key clockwise. Then
remove the battery from the controller box by pulling the handle at the bottom of the
battery.
Tip
Remove the battery key from the battery lock after inserting or disconnecting the battery to
ensure the key is less likely to be lost. For example, keep the battery key attached to your
bike key. After locking the battery, keep both keys with you and you can never forget the
battery key. Always keep spare keys on a separate key ring.

Important! Please note:
• Batteries slowly empty, even if the bike is not used. Therefore remove the battery from
your Babboe cargo bike and keep it at home when the cargo bike is not in use.
• Storing and charging the battery should always be done in a (fire) safe place.
• Do not expose the battery to high temperatures (> 50 °C), such as heating and fire.
• Do not take the battery apart. Consult the service department at Babboe if you have a
problem. Place the battery in a shady, cool and dry place for long-term storage.
Charging the battery
You can charge the battery with the supplied charger. You can charge the battery whether
it is in or out of your Babboe cargo bike. The loading point of the battery is covered by
a rotatable plastic cover. During charging the charger will show a red light. When this
indicator is green, the battery is fully charged. This takes approximately 5 hours (95%
charged).
Important! Please note:
• Charging the battery should always be done in a safe place and not near anything
flammable.
• Never connect the positive terminal of the battery to the negative terminal.
• Make sure the battery is fully charged at least once every 3 months (but do not charge
longer than 48 hours). When the battery is not used for a long time it could become
irreparably damaged.
• Charge the battery immediately when the battery is completely empty. Cells that are
empty for a long time may be damaged irreparably.
• Only use the charger supplied and use the battery/charger only for your Babboe cargo
bike.
• Do not insert objects into the charger. Also make sure the charger, the battery and
electronics are not exposed to too much heat, water or other liquids.
• Use your charger only in a dry and well-ventilated place.
• The charger is not resistant to moisture and/or should not be dropped.

USER TIPS
Cycling
Cycling on a three-wheel cargo bike takes some getting used to, since the steering motion
is different from a regular bike. The handlebar is fixed to the box and you actually steer
from left to right and vice versa with the box. Always remain quietly seated in an upright
position, even when turning corners. In very sharp turns you can let go of the outside
handlebar to prevent hanging to one side. Keep this hand in the vicinity of the brakes, so
you can brake immediately if necessary. For more information please refer to our website.
Parking brake
The electric Babboe cargo bike features a parking brake. The parking brake holds the
Babboe cargo bike at standstill and prevents it from rolling away.The parking brake
is located in the left brake lever. Pull the brake lever to operate the Babboe cargo bike
parking brake. Then press the metal button/lever and release the brake lever again. The
handle is now locked and Babboe cargo bike is in the parking brake position.
Adjustable handlebar
It is possible to adjust the height and the angle of the handlebar. Loosen the handlebar
stem and place the handlebar in the desired position. Be careful not to pull the handlebar
out too far. Pay attention to the marked indent on the handlebar stem that determines the
maximum allowable position. When the handlebar is in the correct position, tighten the
handlebar stem.
Tire and spoke tension
In order to continue cycling in a light and comfortable way, the tire pressure should remain
the same. This means a pressure of 3.5-4 bar.The harder the tires, the more comfortable
and lighter it is to cycle. Check the tension of the spokes regularly. When they are ‘loose’,
get them tightened at an approved bicycle shop or at your Babboe dealer.
Lighting
The electric Babboe Big has both front and rear lighting. The rear light runs on batteries
and can be controlled via the display indicator. The front is equipped with battery lighting,
which is operated on the light itself (and not via the display). The lights have a flashing
setting and a continuous setting. You should always opt for the continuous setting.
Accessories
There are several fun and functional accessories available for the electric Babboe Big.
For example, to keep your children safe we have the baby seat, toddler chair and various
cushion sets. For convenience we have the rain tent, sunroof and several cargo bike covers.
To make it more cheerful, we also have specially designed stickers. Babboe is continuously
looking to expand its range with new and exciting accessories, so make sure you check the
new range in the shop regularly.

WARRANTY & MAINTENANCE
Warranty
To keep the warranty on your Babboe Big cargo bike, it is important to get your bike
serviced within the first 4-12 weeks or after 100 km of heavy use to check if the main
components (including gears, spokes and brakes) are all working effectively. This can be
done at your local bike shop or Babboe dealer.
Maintenance
Even though the electric Babboe Big contains high-quality components, it is very important
to keep it well maintained. Lubricate moving parts on a regular basis and ensure that the
cables remain flexible, for example, during cold spells of frost. At the back of this manual
is a maintenance overview. Keep the receipts for the warranty for the maintenance and
inspection.
Maintenance of the wooden cargo box
The box is resistant to the Dutch climate. However, we still recommend that you always
use a rain cover, rain tent or cargo bike cover. This will protect the box against the various
weather conditions. It will also, for example, protect the cargo bike against damage
from children climbing in and out of the box. Damage to the paint makes the wood more
vulnerable to moisture. If damage occurs, treat it with a clear coating of varnish suitable
for outdoor use. This will prevent moisture from penetrating into the wood.
Cleaning
To make your Babboe cargo bike look new again, you can clean it by firstly brushing it with
a soft brush to remove the dirt and then washing it with warm water. Regular cleaning of
the Babboe cargo bike promotes longevity. Beware of excessive use of water around the
electronics and battery. Make sure the area between the sensor plate in the sensor (by
the bottom bracket) is not dirty. When cleaning the cargo bike it is advisable to remove
the battery. Never use a high-pressure cleaner! Many parts of the Babboe cargo bike
require oil, grease or vaseline. Do not wash these substances away or apply them again
immediately after washing.
Treatment
Besides regular cleaning, it is recommended to treat certain parts of the cargo bike
immediately after cleaning. We recommend that you grease around chromed parts,
uncoated aluminium and stainless steel parts with acid-free vaseline to prevent oxidation
and rust. Rotating parts require grease or oil. It is advisable to periodically lubricate the
chain, sprockets and shafts. To prevent corrosion, we recommend that you regularly mend
any damage to the paintwork.
General check
Regularly check the following:
• Is the battery fully charged?
• Are the brakes working properly? Are the brakes, bolts and screws still tightened?
Is there any visible wear and tear on the cables? Are the braking surfaces clean and
grease-free? Is there any visible wear and tear on the brake pads?
• Is the handlebar stem still tightened? Is the saddle tightened properly?
• Are the handgrips secure?
• Is the tension on the spokes adequate? Are the wheels straight? Are there any spokes
broken? Are the wheels secure?
• Are the tires still at the right tension? Is there still enough profile grip on the tires?
• Do the lights work? Is the bike clearly visible in the dark? Are there reflective strips on
the tires and are they clean?
• Does the pedal assistance work properly?
• Do the gears work properly?
• Is the chain tension correct?
• Does the bicycle need a proper cleaning?
• Has the bicycle had a maintenance check-up recently?
Important! Please note:
• Do not clean your Babboe cargo bike with a strong water jet or high-pressure hose,
as this can damage the electronics of the cargo bike. This will affect your warranty.
• By improper use, you can put yourself and others at risk. More importantly your
warranty will expire.
