1. Basic safety instructions
1.1 Notes on this manual
Please read carefully before commissioning the devices.
The user manua is a constituent part of the product. It must be kept in the direct vicinity
of the device and accessib e at a times to insta ation, operating and maintenance
personne .
It contains important notes, safety instructions and test certificates which are necessary
for perfect functioning when the devices are being operated and hand ed.
The user manua is written for a peop e who carry out assemb y, insta ation,
commissioning and maintenance work on the product, whereby the directives and
standards app icab e to areas with a gas or dust atmosphere (2014/34/EU, EN/IEC
60079-17 and EN/IEC 60079-19) must be observed when doing such work.
Fami iarity with and strict adherence to the safety instructions and warnings in this
manua are essentia for safe insta ation and commissioning. Carefu hand ing and
consistent observation of these instructions can prevent accidents, persona injuries
and damage to property.
The i ustrations in these operating instructions serve to make the information and
descriptions more c ear. They are not necessari y true to sca e and may deviate s ight y
from the actua construction of the device.

1.2 Handling the product
The product described in these operating instructions has been tested and eft the factory
in perfect condition as regards meeting safety requirements. To maintain this condition
and ensure that this product operates perfect y and safe y, it may be used on y in the
manner described by the manufacturer. Appropriate transportation, suitab e storage and
carefu operation are a so essentia for the perfect and safe operation of this product. The
POLARIS must be insta ed proper y and secure y if it is to work perfect y and correct y.
The safe and perfect mounting of the POLARIS is a precondition for fau t ess and correct
operation.
1.3 Use in accordance with the intended purpose
1.3.1 xclusive purpose
It is used exc usive y in combination with operating devices which satisfy the requirements
for Overvo tage Category I.
The POLARIS SMART HMI has been designed specia y for use in hazardous (potentia y
exp osive) areas in Zone 1 or Zones 21.
It is essentia to observe the permissib e operationa data for the device being used.

1.3.2 Improper use
Any other use is not in accordance with the intended purpose and can cause damage and
accidents. The manufacturer wi not be iab e for any use beyond that of its Exc usive II
intended purpose.
1.4 Owner’s/Managing operator’s obligations
The owner/managing operator undertakes to restrict permission to work with the
POLARIS to peop e who:
-are fami iar with the basic regu ations on safety and accident prevention and have
been instructed in the use of the POLARIS;
-have read and understood the documentation, the chapter on safety and the
warnings.
The owner/managing operator must check that the safety regu ations and accident
prevention ru es va id for the respective app ication are being observed.
1.5 Safety instructions
1.5.1 General safety instructions
-Take the device out of the hazardous area before wiping it with a dry c oth or
c eaning it!
-Do not open devices in a hazardous area.
-The genera statutory regu ations or directives re ating to safety at work, accident
prevention and environmenta protection egis ation must be observed, e.g. the
German industria hea th and safety ordinance (BetrSichV) or the app icab e
nationa ordinances.
-In view of the risk of dangerous e ectrostatic charging, wear appropriate c othing
and footwear.
-Avoid the inf uence of heat that is higher or ower than the specified temperature
range.
-Protect the device from externa inf uences! Do not expose the device to any
caustic/aggressive iquids, vapours or mist! In the event of ma functioning or
damage to the enc osure, take the device out of the potentia y exp osive area
immediate y and bring it to a safe p ace.
1.6 Safety instructions for operation
1.6.1 Upkeep
For e ectrica systems the re evant insta ation and operating regu ations must be comp ied
with (e.g. Directive 2014/34/EU and the nationa app icab e ordinances EN 60079-14 and
the DIN VDE 0100 series)!
The disposa of this equipment must comp y with the nationa regu ations on the disposa
of waste.

1.6.2 Maintenance
Regu ar servicing is not necessary if the equipment is operated correct y in accordance
with the insta ation instructions and environmenta conditions. In this context, p ease refer
to Chapter "Maintenance, Inspection, Repair".
1.6.3 Inspection
Under EN/IEC 60079-17 and EN/IEC 60079-19, the owner/managing operator of e ectrica
insta ations in hazardous areas is ob iged to have these insta ations checked by a
qua ified e ectrician to ensure that they are in a proper condition.
1.6.4 Repairs
Repairs on exp osion-protected operating equipment may be done on y by authorised
persons working in accordance with the atest deve opments in techno ogy and using
origina spare parts. The app icab e regu ations must be observed.
1.6.5 Commissioning
Before commissioning, check that a components and documents are there.
1.7 x protection type, certification and standards
Markings specifying Ex protection and certification are put on the device. For Ex
protection markings, see chapter 4 "Technica Data ".
The POLARIS SMART HMI conform to Directive 2014/34/EU for devices and protective
systems for use to their intended purpose in potentia y exp osive areas (ATEX Directive).
For the standards conformed to, see chapter 3 "Exp osion protection and approva s".
1.8 Warranty
WARNING
If components other than those specified are used, protection against explosion
can no longer be assured.
 Do not take any modifications or conversions on device.
 Use on y origina spare parts parts.
The manufacturer grants a comp ete warranty on y and exc usive y for the spare parts
ordered from him, the manufacturer.

As a fundamenta ru e, our “Genera Conditions of Sa e and De ivery” app y. These are
made avai ab e to the owner/managing operator at the atest on formation of a contract.
Guarantee and iabi ity c aims for persona injury and damage to property are exc uded if
they are due to one or more of the fo owing reasons:
-Use of the POLARIS for a purpose other than that for which it is intended.
-Incorrect insta ation, commissioning, operation and maintenance.
-Non-comp iance with the instructions in the manua with respect to transport,
storage, assemb y, commissioning, operation and maintenance.
-Structura modifications without our prior authorisation.
-inadequate monitoring of components that are subject to wear
-Repairs done incorrect y.
-Disasters due to the effects of foreign matter or Act of God (events outside human
contro ).
We guarantee the POLARIS and its accessories for a period of 1 year starting from the
BARTEC de ivery date. This guarantee covers a parts of the de ivery and is restricted to
the rep acement free of charge or the repair of the defective parts in our Bad Mergentheim
factory. As far as possib e, the de ivery packaging shou d be kept for this purpose. In the
event of such a c aim, the product must be returned to us after written arrangement. The
customer cannot c aim to have the repairs done at the site of insta ation.

2. Product description
2.1 Definition
The POLARIS SMART HMI 7,0“ W is an innovative further deve opment of the POLARIS
series.
High-reso ution disp ays with LED techno ogy and touch screen for an intuitive and
comfortab e operation. It is avai ab e as capacitive or resistive touch mode .
State-of-the-art LED disp ay techno ogy ensures an optimum contrast event with a arge
viewing ang e.

The POLARIS SMART HMI 7,0” W has been equipped as standard with the third-
generation processor, the Inte ® Atom™ with 2x 1,46 GHz. The open Windows operating
system makes the device series in the market unique. Working with the BMS-Graf-Pro is
a so possib e.
A direct connection to the contro or to the process contro system is possib e through
Ethernet.
The intrinsica y safe USB interfaces can be reached direct y on the back.
Wired e ectrica connections are made via integrated termina compartments.
The use of the BARTEC Ex i memory stick through the intrinsica y safe USB interface
a ows data to be transferred easi y, stored, and saved for system restoration by means of
the backup function
The front-pane mounting design makes insta ation easy. On request, the devices are
a so avai ab e as a ready-made system so ution in a stain ess stee enc osure for wa ,
f oor or tab e mounting.
For particu ar y harsh areas of use with temperatures as ow as down to -40 °C, we equip
the POLARIS series with e ectrica heating. On request, we produce customised so utions
with more command and signa ing devices.

4.2 Keyboard
4.2.1 Description
The intrinsica y keyboard of the SMART HMI 7" is intended for zone 1 and 2, as we as
for zone 21 and 22.
The keyboard is connected to the intrinsica y USB socket, besides, it can be connected to
the comp ete POLARIS series.
The comp ete stain ess stee keyboard can be a so used in industria extreme terms
(near y insensitive against effect of vio ence) and offers with the ong hub keys a high
ease of use. The keyboard is avai ab e in different anguages.
