Safety rules
• The personnel carrying out the installation, commission-
ing, maintenance or repair of the device must be properly
qualied for this type of work. In particular, the persons
concerned must
- be suitably trained and familiar with handling
compressed-air systems besides being informed
about the associated dangers,
- know the content of the relevant instructions for
installation and operation, and
- prossess vocational qualications or entitlements in
this particular eld of work.
• Before the start of any work, the housing must rst be
depressurized.
• To ensure safe functioning, only use the device within the
operational limits (operating pressure, operating tempera-
ture, volumetric ow, material stability).
• In the event of leaks, shut off the compressed-air supply
immediately and eliminate the cause in order to maintain
safe and cost-effective operation.
• CLEARPOINT lters, including accessories, must be
checked once a week.
Areas of application
The CLEARPOINT “V” activated carbon cartridge enables
the separation of oil vapours and odours. The special feature
here is the large-volume lter bed consisting of form-pressed,
highly activated carbon. This extends the contact time quite
considerably compared with conventional lter elements. The
system offers two distinct advantages:
- the compressed air ows through a much deeper lter
bed, thereby increasing the efciency of oil vapour and
odour separation,
- the lter cartridge lifetime is particularly long thanks to
the large amount of activated carbon.
VActivated carbon cartridge for the separation of oil va-
pours up to 0.003 mg/m³ and odours.
Max. operating pressure: up to 16 bar
Operating temperature: +2 °C ... +45 °C
Recommended operating temperature: +25 °C
Function of activated carbon cartridge
The ow through the activated carbon bed proceeds from top
to bottom. Oil vapours and odours are adsorbed and retained
on the activated carbon.
Any coarse particles are separated out by a small lter segment
upstream of the cartridge outlet. For particularly sensitive ap-
plications, it is recommended to install a ne-dust particle lter
directly downstream of the activated carbon absorber.
Prior to delivery, dry air is led through the activated-carbon
cartridges over a dened period of time. The cartridges are
then hermetically shrink-wrapped. According to the technical
parameters of the sheet used, and according to internal long-
term trials, a storage time of at least 6 months can be assumed.
This storage time is based on normal temperatures and ambient
moistures (25°C at max. 50 % relative humidity).
Employability is also maintained with longer storage times;
however, the absorption capacity of hydrocarbons decreases
with increasing moisture in the activated carbon.
Economic efciency of activated carbon cartridges
To extend the lifetime of the lter elements, the residual hu-
midity of the incoming gas should not exceed 30 %, and the
compressed air temperature should be preferably be on the low
side (recommended guide value +25 °C). Depending on the
given lter load, the cartridge will be exhausted after several
months and will need to be replaced. To assess the condition
of the activated carbon cartridge we recommend using an oil
check indicator (see page 12 ).
The nominal diameters of the pipes should be as uniform as
possible in order to avoid creating additional ow resistance.
Reduced pipe sections should only be installed where required
for the partial-ow outlets (ring, connecting or supply lines).
Installation
CLEARPOINT lters undergo stringent quality control proce-
dures in the manufacturing plant and are handed over to the
forwarding agent in a perfect condition. Upon arrival of the
goods, please check for any visible damage and, where ap-
propriate, insist on a corresponding note on the delivery receipt.
Get in touch immediately with the forwarding agent and arrange
for an assessment of the damage. The manufacturer is not
responsible for any damage caused during transport.
Positioning:
The housing should be mounted in a vertical position. Ob-
serve the direction of ow which is indicated by an arrow on
the housing.
As the activated-carbon cartridges are delivered separately in
a diffusion-tight sheet, the cartridge needs to be mounted in
the lter housing prior to installation of the activated-carbon
lter in the pipework (see also ”Change of the activated-carbon
cartridge”, page 10).
If the pipe network is affected by vibration, it is recommended
to install vibration dampers.
For replacing the lter elements it is necessary to leave a han-
dling space below the housing (see drawing page 11).
