1 Description and Intended Purpose
These Instructions for Use are intended for use by the practitioner and user unless otherwise
stated.
The term device is used throughout these instructions for use to refer to EliteVT.
Please read and ensure you understand all instructions for use, in particular all safety information
and maintenance instructions.
Application
This device is to be used exclusively as part of a lower limb prosthesis.
Intended for a single user.
A high-energy-return foot. Independent heel and toe spring provides axial deection. The split
toe provides good ground compliance. This device also includes a spring element capable of
absorbing axial and rotational shock intended to reduce sheer stresses at the residuum/socket
interface.

Activity Level
This device is recommended for users that have the potential to achieve Activity Level 3 or 4.
Of course there are exceptions and in our recommendation we want to allow for unique,
individual circumstances and any such decision should be made with sound and thorough
justication.
Activity Level 3
Has the ability or potential for ambulation with variable cadence.
Typical of the community ambulator who has the ability to traverse most environmental barriers and
may have vocational, therapeutic, or exercise activity that demands prosthetic utilization beyond
simple locomotion.
Activity Level 4
Has the ability or potential for prosthetic ambulation that exceeds basic ambulation skills, exhibiting
high impact, stress, or energy levels. Typical of the prosthetic demands of the child, active adult, or
athlete.
Contraindications
This device may not be suitable for Activity Level 1 individuals or for competitive sports events,
as these types of users will be better served by a specially designed prosthesis optimized for their
needs.

Clinical Benets
• Allows variable running speeds
• Increased walking speed, compared to rigid pylons
• High levels of mobility for active users, compared to non-energy-storage-and-return feet,
hydraulic ankles, ex-foot-style feet and ex-walk-style feet.
• Improved prosthetic push-o work compared to solid-ankle-cushioned-heel feet
• Increased prosthetic positive work done, compared to lower activity feet
• High degree of user satisfaction, particularly with high activity users
• Reduced loading rate on the residual limb, compared to rigid pylons
• Reduced back pain when twisting, compared to rigid pylons
Note… If in doubt choosing between two categories, choose the higher rate spring set.
Foot spring set recommendations shown are for transtibial users.
For transfemoral users we suggest selecting a foot spring set one category lower.
Once tted with springs, cover appropriate lines on carrier with permanent black
marker to leave spring set number showing.
Warning: For higher impact users, do not exceed the weight limit for individual springs.

Any changes in the performance or
function of the limb e.g. restricted or
excessive movement, non-smooth
motion or unusual noises should be
immediately reported to your service

Always use a hand rail when

4 Function
This device comprises an e-carbon toe and independent heel spring. The carrier assembly
contains a spring component which allows the pyramid tube to deect and/or rotate through a
limited range under an axial and/or torsional load. When the load is removed the spring returns
to its original position. The eect of this movement is to attenuate any shock forces that would
otherwise be transmitted to the residuum/socket interface both in axial and rotational directions.
Heel and toe springs are attached to the carrier assembly using titanium screws. The foot is
wrapped in a UHM PE sock which is in turn surrounded by a PU foot shell.
5 Maintenance
Visually check the device regularly.
Report any changes in performance of this device to the practitioner/service provider e.g.
unusual noises, increased stiness or restricted/excessive rotation, signicant wear or excessive
discoloration from long term exposure to UV.
Inform the practitioner/service provider of any changes in body weight and/or activity level.
Cleaning
Use a damp cloth and mild soap to clean outside surfaces, do not use aggressive cleansers.
The remaining instructions in this section are for practitioner use only.
This maintenance must be carried out only by competent personnel (practitioner or suitable
trained technician).
The following routine maintenance is to be carried out at least annually:
• Remove foot shell and glide sock, check for damage or wear and replace if necessary.
• Check all screws for tightness, see Construction section; clean and reassemble as necessary.
• Check heel and toe springs for signs of delamination or wear and replace if necessary. Some
minor surface damage may occur after a period of use, this does not aect the function or
strength of the foot.
Instructions to remove the foot shell and replace the foot-springs are included in Foot Shell
Removal & Foot Spring Replacement section.
If necessary, re-lubricate the spring’s bearing surfaces. To do this:
• Disassemble the device as shown in the Axial Shock Spring Replacement instructions.
• Apply‘Sapphire Endure’ (928015) or equivalent PTFE loaded grease to the bearing surface,
then reassemble.
Ensure the user has read and understood all safety and user-level maintenance information.
Advise the user that a regular visual check of the foot is recommended and signs of wear that
may aect function should be reported to their service provider (e.g. signicant wear or excessive
discoloration from long term exposure to UV).
If this device is used for extreme activity, the maintenance level and interval should be reviewed
and if required advice and technical support sought to plan a new maintenance schedule
dependent upon the frequency and nature of the activity. This should be determined by a local
risk assessment carried out by a suitably qualied individual.

Intended Life
A local risk assessment should be carried out based upon activity and usage.
Lifting Loads
Users weight and activity is governed by the stated limits.
Load carrying by the users should be based on a local risk assessment.
Environment
Avoid exposing this device to corrosive elements such
as water, acids and other liquids. Also avoid abrasive
environments such as those containing sand for example
as these may promote premature wear.
Exclusively for use between -15°C and 50 °C
(5°F and 122 °F).

7 Bench Alignment

7.1 Static Alignment
Set-up Length
With exion, adduction and abduction
properly accommodated, set the limb length
10mm longer than the sound side to allow for
compression and deection of the foot & axial
shock springs during gait. This should be re-
assessed before the dynamic trial commences
and the length adjusted accordingly.
Build Line
This should fall 10mm anterior to the centre
of the pyramid (with heel height properly
accommodated). The socket should be
positioned accordingly.
7.2 Dynamic Alignment
Coronal Plane
Ensure that M-L thrust is minimal by adjusting
relative positions of socket and foot.
Sagittal Plane
Check for smooth transition from heel strike
to toe-o. Ensure also that when standing the
heel and toe are evenly loaded and that both
are touching the oor.
7.3 Transfemoral Alignment
Align transfemoral components according to
tting instructions supplied with the knee,
keeping the build line relative to this device,
as shown.

Springs are supplied as matched sets i.e. the heel, toe and axial springs are designed to work
together to give smooth progression for most users.
Heel Wedge
A heel wedge is supplied with the foot. Fitting the wedge will have the eect of stiening the
heel spring. These can be taped in place for trial. For permanent tting, wedges should be
adhered in place by application of Loctite 424 (926104) between the lower contacting surface of
the heel and the wedge.
Heel Stiness
Progression throughout the stance phase should be smooth; heel function is key to this process:
• Too soft a heel or load line excessively posterior will result in sinking at heel strike and
diculty in getting over the toe.
• Too hard a heel or load line excessively anterior will result in a rapid progression through
mid-stance or jarring at heel strike.
Axial Stiness
The axial spring controls both compressive and torsional resilience. Typical vertical movement
should be between 3-6mm for normal walking. Alternative stiness springs are available if
required.
8 Fitting Advice
Note… Please contact your supplier if it is not possible to achieve a smooth gait after following the
advice above.

Remove toe spring screws (13A/F spanner
940273). Withdraw toe spring from shell.
13A/F
Rotate the carrier/heel spring assembly toward
the rear of the foot to dis-engage the spring
from it’s location in the shell.
Undo and remove heel spring screws. Assemble
new heel spring onto carrier, use Loctite 243
(926012) and torque to 15Nm. Use special Allen
wrench 940080, Torque spanner adaptor 940081
or 13A/F spanner 940273
If a foam cosmesis is to be tted, roughen top
surface of foot shell to provide ideal bonding
surface.
Attach the toe

1. For spring rates 1 to 7 use 4 A/F Allen
wrench and torque to 15Nm. Do not use
external hex, this is reserved for loosening
the bolt, if required.

Insert assembly into foot shell, push toe spring,
carrier and heel assembly forward in the foot
shell as far as possible.
Slide a metal shoe horn between heel spring
and back of foot shell opening. Lever the spring
down into the foot shell while pushing the whole
assembly downwards.
Ensure toe spring’s correct t into location slot in
foot shell.
The shoe horn should be located approx. 30 mm
below top surface of foot shell to ensure full
engagement of heel spring.
Ensure heel spring’s correct t into location slot

Bond foam cosmesis to top surface of the foot
shell as shown using Thixox adhesive (926204)

Liability
The manufacturer recommends using the device only under the specied conditions and for
the intended purposes. The device must be maintained according to the instructions for use
supplied with the device. The manufacturer is not liable for any adverse outcome caused by any
component combinations that were not authorized by them.
CE Conformity
This product meets the requirements of the European Regulation EU 2017/745 for medical
devices. This product has been classied as a class I device according to the classication rules
outlined in Annex VIII of the regulation. The EU declaration of conformity certicate is available at
the following internet address: www.blatchford.co.uk
Compatibility
Combination with Blatchford branded products is approved based on testing in accordance
with relevant standards and the MDR including structural test, dimensional compatibility and
monitored eld performance.
Combination with alternative CE marked products must be carried out in view of a documented
local risk assessment carried out by a Practitioner.
Warranty
This device is warranted for 36 months - foot shell 12 months - glide sock 3 months. The user
should be aware that changes or modications not expressly approved could void the warranty,
operating licenses and exemptions. See Blatchford website for the current full warranty
statement.
Reporting of Serious Incidents
In the unlikely event of a serious incident occurring in relation to this device it should be
reported to the manufacturer and your national competent authority.
Environmental Aspects
Where possible the components should be recycled in accordance with local waste handling
regulations.
Retaining the Packaging Label
The practitioner is advised to keep the packaging label as a record of the device supplied.

1 Opis in namen uporabe
Ta navodila za uporabo so predvidena za zdravnika in uporabnika, razen če je navedeno drugače.
Izraz pripomoček se v teh navodilih za uporabo uporablja za EliteVT.
Preberite in poskrbite, da boste razumeli vsa navodila za uporabo, predvsem vse varnostne

Uporaba
Pripomoček je predviden izključno kot del proteze za spodnje okončine.
Predviden je za enega uporabnika.
Stopalo z visokim povratkom energije. Neodvisni vzmeti na peti in sprednjem delu stopala
omogočata aksialni pregib. Deljeni veliki prst zagotavlja dobro prileganje tlom. Pripomoček ima
tudi vzmetni element, ki lahko ublaži aksialne in rotacijske udarce ter zmanjša strižne sile na krn
okončine.

Seveda pa obstajajo izjeme, zato pri našem priporočilu dopuščamo možnost edinstvenih,
posameznih okoliščin, odločitev o tem pa je treba sprejeti na osnovi temeljite presoje.

Ima sposobnost ali potencial za premikanje s spremenljivim korakom.
Običajno pokretna oseba, ki lahko premaga večino okoljskih ovir in morda opravlja poklicno,
terapevtsko ali zično aktivnost, ki zahteva uporabo proteze, ki presega zgolj preprosto gibanje.

Ima sposobnost ali potencial za hojo s protezo, ki presega osnovne sposobnosti hoje, in je izpostavljena

Opomba… Če ste v dvomih in ne veste, katero kategorijo izbrati, izberite sklop vzmeti z višjo
stopnjo.
Priporočila za sklope stopalnih vzmeti so prikazana za transtibialne uporabnike.
Za transfemoralne uporabnike priporočamo uporabo sklopa stopalnih vzmeti ene
kategorije niže.
Ko stopalo opremite z vzmetmi, prekrijte ustrezne linije nosilca s črnim
permanentnim markerjem, vidna naj ostane samo številka sklopa vzmeti.
Opozorilo: pri uporabnikih, izpostavljenih visokim sunkovitim obremenitvam,
ne prekoračite omejitve teže za posamezne vzmeti.
