Section 1
Introduction
1.1 Product Description
The CS 5500 front-load cash dispenser is a free-standing system that dispenses
cash and printed receipts to the consumer. Supplies are replenished and service is
performed from the front of the cash dispenser.
The cash dispenser is installed in interior locations, such as bank lobbies,
transportation terminals, department stores, or work locations. With different
configurations, the cash dispenser is designed for 24-hour service or for
business-hour service only.
NOTE
UL 291 3.4 BUSINESS HOUR SERVICE is defined as a
product that is available during business hours only, is under
observation by responsible persons, and is emptied of all
valuables at the close of business.

1.2 Before Performing Maintenance Procedures
The operator should be familiar with the features on the cash dispenser and the
maintenance plan before performing maintenance procedures.
Standard and Optional Equipment
The cash dispenser might not have all the features described in this manual.
Refer to the documents listed in Appendix A for more information.
Maintenance Plans
Consult with the manager at the institution to verify which maintenance plan
the institution is using.
1.3 Maintenance Tasks
Daily maintenance includes the following tasks:
• Retrieving jammed, retained or captured cards
• Replenishing printer paper
• Removing jammed paper
• Replacing printer cartridges
• Removingjammedcash

1.5 General Safety Precautions
Strictly observe the following safety precautions during
maintenance to avoid damaging the equipment, severe
personal injury, or death.
• Be careful about wearing loose clothing or jewelry that
could become caught in the equipment.
• Prevent long hair getting caught in the equipment.
• Never insert screwdrivers, pens, or other instruments
into any part of the cash dispenser, modules or devices.
Severe bodily injury, death from electrical shock, or
equipment damage could occur.
• Always turn off the cash dispenser before removing or
installing modules.

1.6 Warning and Caution Labels
Strictly observe the following safety warnings or caution labels to reduce the
risk of severe personal injury, or death.
Label Definition Safety Concern
Electrical shock
hazard
An electrical shock hazard exists in the area
of the label. Do not remove covers. Remove
power before servicing.
Warning or danger
A personal injury can occur. Look for nearby
warning label (electrical shock, pinch point,
moving machinery, high temperature hazard)
or refer to the module or ATM operating
guideforthespecific hazard.
Pinch point
An area that can pinch (or cut) you exists in
the area of this label. Keep your hands and
fingers clear of pinch points.
Moving machinery
hazard
Moving parts that can snag or pull clothing,
hair, skin, or jewelry into the mechanism
are present in the area of this label. Keep
clothing, hair, skin, and jewelry out of the
mechanism.
High temperature
hazard
High temperatures that can cause pain or
burns are present in the area of this label.
Do not touch until cooled.

1.7 Radio Interference Label
This is a class A product. In a domestic environment this
product may cause radio interference, in which case the user
might be required to take adequate measures.
A warning label (see Figure 1-2) is included on ATMs available in Taiwan to
meet Taiwan Class A regulatory requirements for radio frequency interference.

Devices in the Cash Dispenser
This section describes the devices in the cash dispenser. The cash dispenser
might not have all the devices described in this section. Some devices are either
optional or are mutually exclusive and cannot be used with other devices.
Refer to the documents listed in Appendix A for more information.
2.1 Access Points used by the Consumer
Access points used by the consumer are shown in Figure 2-1 and described in
Section 2.1.1 through Section 2.1.13.

2.1.1 Fascia Mirror
Mirrors at the top of the fascia help consumers monitor the surroundings while
they use the cash dispenser.
2.1.2 Motorized Card Reader Slot
The motorized card reader is a mechanically operated device. The consumer
inserts an ATM card into the slot. The card reader automatically pulls the card
into the cash dispenser and returns it when the transaction is completed.
2.1.3 Dip Card Reader
The dip card reader is a manually operated device that reads magnetic stripe
cards and memory chip cards. The consumer inserts an ATM card in the card
slot and then removes the card to begin the transaction. The dip card reader
cannot retract, capture, or retain cards.
2.1.4 Secure Card Reader
The secure card reader is a mechanically operated device. The consumer inserts
an ATM card, long edge first, into the slot. The card reader automatically pulls
the card into the cash dispenser and returns it when the transaction is completed.
2.1.5 Fingerprint Reader (optional)
The fingerprint reader is mounted in the bezel of the PIN pad. The consumer
places a finger on the glowing window and the reader automatically scans the
fingerprint. A red flash indicates that an image of the fingerprint has been
captured. The scanned data is encrypted before it is sent over the USB interface.
2.1.6 Enhanced Biometric Fingerprint Reader (optional)
The enhanced biometric fingerprint reader is mounted on the bezel of the
enhanced encrypting PIN pad and uses active tamper detection. The reader
automatically scans the fingerprint when the consumer places their finger on the
window of the reader. The scanned data is hardware encrypted before being
sent to the processor.
2.1.7 Consumer Keypad
During the transaction the cash dispenser prompts the consumer to enter
information on the keypad, which uses an integrated security module and an
encrypting PIN pad to secure information about the transaction.

2.1.8 Headphone Jack
Consumers can use headphones to receive voice guidance. The fascia speakers
are turned off when the headphones are plugged into the jack.
2.1.9 Function Keypads
The consumer can use the four function keys on each side of the consumer
display to make selections that correspond to information on the display.
2.1.10 Consumer Display
The consumer display is a monitor used by the consumer to perform transactions.
2.1.11 Printer Slot
The consumer can receive a printed receipt at the end of a transaction through
the printer slot.
2.1.12 Dispenser Slot
The consumer receives bank notes and other dispensable media through the
dispenser slot.
2.1.13 Lead-through Indicators
Lead-through indicators are lights on the fascia of the cash dispenser that can be
amber or red, depending on the hardware status. Lead-through indicators guide
consumers to the next step in the transaction.
