DJO VenaGo User manual

VenaGo™
Patient Quick Start Guide
APPLICATION:
POWER INDICATORS:
WHAT TO DO IF THE PUMP ALARMS:
The alarms are there to ensure the units are operating correctly and do
not indicate a major reason for concern.
BATTERY CRITICAL
When the battery voltage is severely low, the device will turn off
automatically after the following sequence: the red light under the
ON/OFF button flashes quickly, the digital display shows “LO”, and
the buzzer beeps for 10 seconds.
LOW PRESSURE OR LEAK
If the RED light under the ON/OFF button keeps flashing quickly,
the display shows “LP”, and the alarm buzzes for ~10 seconds,
make sure wrap is attached snugly to the leg. To reset the alarm,
turn the Unit OFF and then back ON. If the unit continues to ALARM
after this step, DO NOT try to fix the device.
CHARGING YOUR VENAGO™:
If you wear and operate the VenaGo™ unit while charging, it will take
approximately 4 hours to fully charge (from a completely depleted
battery.) If the unit is not in use during charging, a complete charge
will take approximately 3 hours (from a completely depleted battery).
PLEASE NOTE: Units are not shipped fully charged. Fully charge unit
before use.

CALF CUP APPLICATION
Wrap the cuff around the calf and
secure the hook and loop tabs
to hold it in place. Make sure the
wrap is snug, but not too tight.
BEFORE USING THE DEVICE, PLEASE READ THE INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE COMPLETELY AND CAREFULLY.
CORRECT APPLICATION IS VITAL TO THE PROPER FUNCTIONING OF THE DEVICE.
CUFF PLACEMENT
When both wraps are secured on
your legs they should look like the
picture above.
TURNING THE DEVICE ON
When the wraps are secured on
your legs PRESS and HOLD the
WHITE power button for about a
second until the light is illuminated
on each unit.
If the power button illuminates GREEN, the units are fully
operational.
When the device is powered on and the power button is
ORANGE, the approximate level on the battery is 50%.
When the device is powered on and the power button is RED, the
battery level is low and needs to be charged. If the power button
is flashing RED and on the display you see “LO” (along with
an alarm sounding), the battery level is critical and will power
down automatically.
IF both units are plugged in AND turned ON, the power button
will be GREEN (and the batteries WILL charge at the same time).
When the unit is turned OFF and plugged in, the battery is
charging and the POWER BUTTON FLASHES GREEN.
Once the battery reaches full charge, the POWER BUTTON
WILL BE RED and REMAIN SOLID
USING THE DEVICE
The device makes a “humming”
sound when inflating and
squeezing your leg. THIS IS
NORMAL - don’t be startled.
The wraps inflate once a minute.
The device cycles (inflate/
deflate) every minute - do not be
concerned if the device seems to
be off.

PURPOSE OF THIS DEVICE:
The purpose of the VenaGo™ is to aid in the prevention of Deep Vein
Thrombosis (DVT) by aiding in the stimulation of blood flow in the legs.
This is accomplished by an electronically controlled pump delivering
a set amount of air to the leg cuffs that, in turn, compress the calf
or calves to aid in blood flow out of the extremities. The pump will
inflate each leg cuff to a preset level of 50mmhg and deflate once the
pressure is reached. The cycles are repeated on each unit until the
power is turned off. Internal rechargeable batteries allow the VenaGo™
to be completely portable, thus helping to prevent interruption in
treatment.
INDICATIONS:
The VenaGo™ is intended to be an easy to use portable system
prescribed by a physician for use in the home or clinical setting. It aids
in the prevention of DVT by stimulating blood flow in the extremities
(simulating muscle contractions).
CONTRAINDICATIONS:
The VenaGo™ device must not be used to treat the following conditions:
• Persons with suspected (active or untreated) deep vein thrombosis,
ischemic vascular disease, severe arteriosclerosis, pulmonary edema,
severe congestive heart failure, thromboplebitis, or an active infection.
On the legs where the cuffs would interfere with the following
conditions:
• Vein ligation, gangrene, dermatitis, open wounds, a recent skin graft,
massive edema, or extreme deformity of the leg.
• On any neuropathy.
• On extremities that are insensitive to pain.
• Where increased venous or lymphatic return is undesirable.
What is DVT?
Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) is when blood forms a blockage or a clot inside your veins. DVT usually forms in the lower leg or thigh. A DVT could break
off from the wall of the vein, travel up in the body, and get stuck in the lungs. This type of clot, called a Pulmonary Embolism (PE), can be fatal. With so
many clot-related deaths every year, it is important to learn how to prevent DVT so that every preventative measure possible can be taken.
Why Use VenaGo™?
Thromboembolic risk can extend to 30 plus days post-discharge.
WARNINGS AND PRECAUTIONS:
• Medical Electrical Equipment needs special precautions regarding
EMC. Portable and mobile RF communications may be affected by
other Medical Electrical Devices.
• Cuffs used in combination with warming devices may cause skin
irritation. Check regularly for patient compliance, discomfort, and
skin irritation.
• To aid in the prevention of extremity compartment syndrome, special
attention should be given to patients who are positioned in the supine
lithotomy position for extended lengths of time. This includes patients
with or without cuffs.
• Do not open or remove covers.
• If pulsations or throbbing occur, the cuff may be wrapped too tightly.
Loosen immediately.
• STOP using the device if swelling occurs; consult physician.
• Device is to be used only by the patient prescribed and only for its
intended use.
• Unit should not be used in the presence of any flammable anesthetic
mixture with air, oxygen, or nitrous oxide.
• DO NOT IMMERSE in any liquid for any reason.
• DO NOT OPERATE device in a wet environment.
• Allow cuffs to warm to room temperature if exposed to temperatures
below 5C or (41 F).
• Do not subject the pump to extreme shocks, such as dropping the
pump.
• Contains no serviceable parts. Contact Product Support 888.405.3251.
• Do not place any items in an autoclave.
• Operation of this device can be done by the patient.
• No service is to be attempted when the device is in use.
• This device is NOT to be altered or modified.
