1 About this manual
1.1 Reading the manual
Please read the user manual ompletely. Pay spe ial attention to the first pages ontaining the safety instru tions and
the onditions of liability. They are provided solely to assure your safety when working with the tool.
You are re ommended to read the individual work steps in the manual again while working with the tool, in order to
avoid danger to personnel and equipment or operating errors.
The tool may only be operated by personnel qualified in vehi le engineering. Information and knowledge in luded this
training is not explained further in this user manual.

2 User information
2.1 Safety precautions
2.1.1 General safety precautions
• The tool is intended for use on vehi les only. It is a pre ondition for the use of the tool that the
user has knowledge of automotive te hnology and is therefore aware of the sour es of danger
and risks in the repair shop and on vehi les.
• All notes given in the individual se tions of this user manual apply. In prin iple it is required to
follow the steps and safety pre autions stated below.
• Furthermore, pay attention to all general instru tions from labour inspe torates, trade
asso iations and vehi le manufa turers as well as all laws, legal ordinan es and instru tions
whi h have to be ommonly obeyed by a repair shop.
2.1.2 Safety precautions for the SEG V
To prevent in orre t handling and resulting injuries to the user or destru tion of the tool, pay
attention to the following:
• Only sele t fun tions and menus on the tou h s reen display using the stylus or lean fingers.
Do not use implements su h as a s rewdriver.
• Prote t the TFT LCD and the tool from prolonged exposure to solar radiation.
• Prote t the tool and the onne ting able against hot parts.
• Prote t the tool and the onne ting able against rotating parts.
• Regularly he k onne ting ables/a essory parts for damage (destru tion of the tool due to
short ir uit).
• Conne t the tool ex lusively a ording to operator guidan e/user manual.
• Prote t the tool from water (it is not water-proof).
• Prote t the tool from strong impa ts (do not drop or kno k over).
• Do not open the tool on your own. Only te hni ians authorised by Hella Gutmann are allowed
to open the tool. If the prote tive seal is damaged or if the tool is subje t to unauthorised
intervention, the warranty will be rendered void.
• If the tool malfun tions, onta t Hella Gutmann or a Hella Gutmann trading partner without
delay.
• Have s rat hed Fresnel lenses repla ed (refer to Servi e parts and a essories).
• Dust and s rat hes an have a negative impa t on the display of the test s reen. Only lean
lenses with a soft loth and glass leaner.
• Che k the 9 volt blo k battery (9 V type) in the laser sight at regular intervals for leaks/
sulphation.

2.1.3 Safety precautions – high voltage and line voltage
Very high voltages o ur in ele tri al systems. Due to voltage flashover on damaged omponents
su h as marten damage or tou hing live omponents, there is a risk of ele tri sho k. High
voltage via the vehi le and line voltage via the building's mains supply an ause severe injury or
even death if adequate are is not taken. Therefore regard the following:
• Always use original wiring harnesses.
• Regularly he k ables and power adapters for damage.
• Do not tou h live omponents when the ignition is on.
2.1.4 Safety precautions – ris of injury
Regard the risk of injury due to rotating parts or rolling vehi le when working on the vehi le.
Therefore regard the following:
• Prote t vehi le against rolling away.
• Additionally pla e sele tor lever of automati transmission vehi les to P position.
• Do not rea h into rotating parts when engine is running.
• Do not run ables near rotating parts.
• Che k high voltage parts for damage.
2.1.5 Safety precautions – chemical burns
If the TFT display is damaged, there is a danger of hemi al burns due to the es ape of liquid
rystal. Therefore observe the following:
• Immediately rinse affe ted parts of the body or lothing with water ( onsult a do tor).
• Seek medi al attention immediately on inhaling or swallowing.
2.1.6 Laser safety precautions
There is a risk of injury through dazzling the eyes when working with the laser. Therefore observe
the following:
• Do not dire t the laser beam towards persons, doors or windows.
• Never look dire tly into the laser beam.
• Ensure proper room illumination.
• Avoid trip hazards.
• Se ure me hani al parts from falling over or be oming loose.

2.2.1 Software
2.2.1.1 Safety-relevant software modifications
The urrent tool software provides numerous diagnosti and onfiguration fun tions. Some of these fun tions affe t
the behaviour of ele troni omponents. These omponents also in lude omponents in safety related vehi le
systems, su h as airbags and brakes. The following notes and instru tions also apply to future updates and related
software upgrades.
2.2.1.2 Performing safety-relevant software modifications
• Work on safety-related areas, e.g. the o upant safety system and the brake systems, may only be performed if
the user has read and a knowledged this noti e.
• The user of the tool must omply fully with all work steps and onditions given by the tool and the vehi le
manufa turer and must follow the related instru tions.
• Diagnosti programs that make safety-related software modifi ations in the vehi le an and may only be used if
the related warning noti es in luding the de laration below are a epted without reservation.
• It is imperative that the diagnosti program is used orre tly, as it an delete programs, onfigurations, settings
and indi ator lamps. These hanges affe t and modify safety-related data and ele troni ontrols, in parti ular
safety systems.

2.2.1.3 Prohibition of safety-related software modifications
Changes or modifi ations to ele troni ontrols and safety-related systems are not permitted in the following
situations:
• The ECU is damaged and it is not possible to read out data.
• The ECU and its allo ation annot be read out unambiguously.
• Reading out is not possible due to data loss.
• The user does not have the ne essary training and knowledge.
In these ases the user is not permitted to hange programs or onfigurations, or to make other hanges in the safety
system. To avoid any danger, the user must onta t an authorised dealer immediately. Only an authorised dealer an
guarantee the safe fun tion of vehi le ele troni s together with the fa tory.
2.2.1.4 Avoidance of use of safety-related software modifications
The user undertakes not to use any safety-related software fun tions if one of the following onditions arise:
• There are doubts about the te hni al ability of third parties to use these fun tions.
• The user does not have the pres ribed training qualifi ations.
• There are doubts about the orre t fun tion of the safety-related software modifi ation.
• The tool is transferred to a third party. Hella Gutmann Solutions GmbHis unaware of the fa t and has not
authorised the third party to use the diagnosti program.
2.2.1.5 Offer for all
Hella Gutmann Solutions GmbH uses open sour e software omponents. The open sour e software must be made
generally available to all if needed. A standard data arrier should be used for this purpose. The a tual osts in urred
are invoi ed. The offer is valid for three years starting from the date the diagnosti tool is pur hased or a hange is
made to the software spe ified above.
2.2.2 Disclaimer
2.2.2.1 Data and information
The information in the database of the diagnosti s program has been ompiled based on automotive and importer

3.1.1 Chec ing delivery contents
CAUTION
Danger of short ir uit due to loose parts in or on the tool
Never put the tool into operation if you suspe t that there are loose parts in or on the tool.
Inform the Hella Gutmann trading partner or the Te hni al Support of Hella Gutmann immediately.
Please he k the delivery ontents upon re eiving your tool so that omplaints regarding any potential damage an be
made immediately.
Pro eed as follows to he k the delivery ontents:
1. Che k the pa kage delivered to ensure that it is not damaged.
Should you identify any external transport damage, then open the pa kage in the presen e of the delivery servi e
and he k the tool for hidden damage. Any transport damage to the pa kage supplied and damage to the tool shall
be registered in a damage report by the delivery servi e.
2. Open the pa kage supplied and he k for ompleteness based on the delivery slip.
3. Remove the tool from the pa kaging.

Intended use
3.2 Intended use
The SEG V is a mobile tool for testing all modern headlight systems of vehi les.
The SEG V is equipped with a modern amera system. This enables pre ise testing of halogen, xenon and LED
headlight systems with the various light distribution fun tions su h as low beam, main beam and fog light but also the
verti al light/dark boundary. The fine verti al s aling of the test s reen enables values to be read with an a ura y of
+/- 0.1°.
The CMOS amera at hes the light distribution of the headlight and transmits it to the ele troni evaluation system. In
ombination with pre ise data re ords the light distribution is displayed on the test s reen in almost real time. The
software guides the user through the evaluation and aiming pro ess based on stored vehi le-spe ifi data and
pro edures. The re orded measurement data sets an be transmitted to peripheral devi es through the USB interfa e.

The laser is integrated into the mirror mount. SEG V is orre tly oriented if the line laser pointer is
parallel to two symmetri al referen e points on the front side of the vehi le.

3.4 Setting the optic housing height
To set the height of the opti housing, pro eed as follows:
1. Hold both rubber handles (11) on the opti housing (5).
2. Press the ontrol lever (10).
3. Set the desired height.
4. Release the ontrol lever.

3.5 Rotating the optic housing
To rotate the opti housing, pro eed as follows:
1. Release the olumn lo king me hanism hand wheel (10).
2. Rotate the opti housing (6).
3. Tighten the olumn lo king me hanism hand wheel.

3.6 Switching on the laser
CAUTION

Never look dire tly into the laser beam.
NOTE
After turning on the laser sight, the laser output is a tivated for approx. 30 s via an integrated
time swit h. Within this time, SEG V an be aligned in front of the vehi le.
To swit h on the laser, pro eed as follows:
1. Briefly press the laser sight (1) ON/OFF button.
The laser is a tivated for approx. 30 s.
2. If required, repeat step 1, to rea tivate the laser.
Now SEG V an be aligned in front of the vehi le.
3.7 Adjusting the height of the laser sight
To adjust the height of the laser sight, pro eed as follows:
1. Loosen the laser sight (9) hand wheel.
2. Set the desired height.
3. Tighten the laser sight hand wheel.
3.8 Adjusting the inclination of the laser sight
To adjust the in lination of the laser sight, pro eed as follows:
1. Loosen the laser sight lamping s rew (15).
2. Set the desired tilt.
3. Tighten the laser sight lamping s rew.
3.9 Operating the tool
NOTICE
Damage or destru tion of the display
Never tou h the display using a tool or pointed metal obje t.
Always use the stylus or a finger.
The tool is equipped with an 8.4” tou h s reen display (14). All menus and fun tions an be sele ted and/or a tivated
by gently tou hing with the stylus or finger.

4 Assembly
4.1 Assembling the SEG V
1. Pla e the olumn (3) with thrust ring (6)
and lamping pie e (4) in the so ket (7).
NOTE
Colour markings on the
olumn and tool foot must
align.
2. Kno k the roll pin (5) (fastened to the
tool foot with tape) into the olumn hole
until both proje ting ends are the same
length.
3. In a ordan e with the figure, fit the
opti housing (8) with the ontrol lever
(9) pressed down. Release the ontrol
lever on e the desired position has been
rea hed. The opti housing lat hes in.
4. Pla e the sight holder (10) on the olumn
(3) and tighten it with the hand wheel for
the laser sight (11).
5. Press down firmly on the hand wheel for
the olumn lo king me hanism (2) at the
top end of the olumn (3) and se ure
with a lo king ring (1).
To readjust the olumn guidan e, use Allen
key SW 6 in the opening.

Charging the battery
5 Putting into operation
This se tion gives a des ription of how to swit h on and off the tool as well as all the ne essary steps for the first use
of the tool.
5.1 Charging the battery
Prior to putting the tool into operation, harge the battery for at least 3 to 4 h.
Pro eed as follows to harge the battery:
1. Insert the voltage supply plug into the tool's so ket.
2. Insert the power plug into the plug so ket.
The battery is harged.
5.2 Switching on the tool
To swit h on the tool:
1. Hold the ON/OFF button on the opti housing (7) for at least 5 s.
The tool boots up.
2. Regard the window with information and instru tions.
3. Confirm the info and instru tions window with .
The main menu appears.
Now you an start working with the tool.
5.3 Switching off the tool
Pro eed as follows to swit h off the tool:
1. Return to the main menu with .
2. Swit h off the tool with .
3. Observe the onfirmation prompt.
4. Swit h off the tool with . Abort the pro edure with .
The tool is swit hed off.

6 Configuring the tool
Configure all interfa es and fun tions under Settings in the main menu.
6.1 Entering vehicle data
Enter data for the qui k test and the do ument test here.
To enter or hange vehi le data, pro eed as follows:
1. In the main menu, sele t Settings > Vehi le.
2. Open the list under Vehi le type with .
3. Sele t the desired vehi le type.
The sele tion is saved automati ally.
4. Open the virtual keyboard under Forward leaning in % via .
5. If required, li k to delete the ex works set value.
Per entage value for forward leaning is generally spe ified on headlight. This value (e.g. 1%) means that the
dipped beam is tilted by up to 10 m on a 10 m rea h.
6. Enter the value.
7. Confirm your entry with .
The input is saved automati ally.
8. Repeat steps 2 7 to make more entries.

The sele tion of ountries depends on the spe ifi software.
3. Sele t the ountry for the orresponding language.
The sele tion is saved automati ally.
6.2.2 Configuring the language
Here the language an be onfigured if the software is multilingual (optional). After having set the language, the
update is installed in this language.
To onfigure the language, pro eed as follows:
1. Sele t Settings > Region in the main menu.
2. Open the list under Languages via .
The sele tion of languages depends on the spe ifi software.
3. Sele t the requested language.
4. Via lose the Language sele tion.
5. Regard the window with information and instru tions.
6. Confirm the info and instru tions window with . Abort the pro edure with .
The sele ted language is reloaded. The language setting is saved automati ally.
The main menu is displayed in the sele ted language.
6.2.3 Setting the date format
Here you an onfigure the date format.
Pro eed as follows to set the date format:
1. Sele t Settings > Region in the main menu.
2. Open the list under Date format with .
3. Sele t the requested date format.
