Infortrend product. Customer is further solely responsible for ensuring its systems,
software, and data are adequately backed up as a precaution against possible
failures, alternation, or loss.
For any questions of hardware/ software compatibility, and the update/ upgrade code,
customer should contact Infortrend sales representative or technical support for
assistance.
To the extent permitted by applicable laws, Infortrend shall NOT be responsible for
any interoperability or compatibility issues that may arise when (1) products, software,
or options not certified and supported by Infortrend are used; (2) configurations not
certified and supported by Infortrend are used; (3) parts intended for one system are
installed in another system of different make or model.

Safety Precautions
Safety Precautions
Read these instructions before you install, operate, or transport EonStor GSe Pro system.
Setup the EonStor GSe Pro system at a site where the ambient temperature stays lower than
40C.
Install the power source socket outlet near the enclosure where it is easily accessible.
Secure airflow clearance around the enclosure:
- Secure an 18 to 20cm clearance around the enclosure.
- Do not cover the enclosure openings.
- Do not leave the drive bays empty as it will affect the airflow efficiency.
NEVER remove more than one hard disk drive tray out of the enclosure at the same time!
Secure each hard disk drive using its retaining screws.
Put the power cords and other cables away from foot traffic. Do not place things over the
power cords and make sure they do not rest against data cables.
Ensure that the correct power range is being used before powering the device.
If the enclosure is not used for a long time, disconnect it from mains to avoid transient
over-voltage.
Important Notice
The use of Infortrend certified components is strongly recommended to ensure compatibility,
quality and normal operation with your Infortrend products. Please contact your distributor for a
list of Infortrend certified components (eg. SFP, SFP+, HBA card, iSCSI cable, FC cable,
memory module, etc.).

ESD Precautions
Avoid touching the PCB boards or connector pins on the hard disk drives.
Avoid dust, debris, carpets, plastic, vinyl, and styrofoam in your work area.
Do not remove the hard disk drive from its anti-static bag before installation takes place.
Drives must not be stacked on top of each other without their protective drive trays. Even when
drives are fixed in the drive trays, contacting the exposed PCB or rear-side interface may
damage the drives.

Keep the faulty hard disk drive in place until you have a replacement unit in hand; removing a
hard disk drive tray will affect airflow within the enclosure.
When transporting the enclosure, repackage all disk drives separately in the original package
foam blocks.
Disconnect the power cords before servicing or cleaning the enclosure.
Use a slightly moistened paper sheet or cloth for cleaning. Avoid using liquid or sprayed
detergent.
When replacing hard drives, insert the hard drive cage as gently as possible while assuring full
engagement. Vibration and shock can easily damage hard drives.
Contact service personnel if any of the following situations occurs:
- The power cord or plug is damaged.
- The enclosure has been exposed to moisture.
- The system has not been working properly.
- The enclosure was dropped against a hard surface.
- The enclosure shows obvious signs of breakage.
When relocating the enclosure, hard disk drives should be removed from the enclosure
beforehand. Please remember the installation order of the hard disk drive and their
corresponding slots.

1 Introduction
1.1 Product Overview
The EonStor GSe Pro 2005 and 2008 are ruggedly built and come with five (5) and
eight (8) hard drive bays, respectively. The hard drive bay can support a single 3.5
inch hard disk drive up to 3TB. The hard disk drives can be configured in RAID 0,1,5
and 6, offering users with performance or data backup functionalities. The EonStor
GSe Pro 2005 and 2008 are the perfect NAS storage solution for SMBs, media
services, education and medical institutes.

The naming rules for systems are explained in the example below:

1.2 Front panel
The EonStor GSe Pro 2005 has 5 hard drive slots while the EonStor GSe Pro 2008 has 8 hard
drive slots. In the front of the panel, they both have a power button and three (3) LED
indicators.
Shown below is an illustration of EonStor GSe Pro 2005. The difference between EonStor GSe
Pro 2005 and 2008 externally is that the 2008 has three extra hard disk drive bays.

At the rear of the system, the main difference between EonStor GSe Pro 2005 and 2008 is that
there is only one fan for 2005.

1.6.2 Drive Tray LEDs
Two (2) LED indicators are located on the bottom of each drive tray. When notified by a drive
failure message, you should check the drive tray indicators to find the correct location of the
failed drive.
