0.Prologue
Use this Help Guide if you have any questions on how to Install EonStor CS cluster.
1. Node Installation
Outline the process for Installing and boot up the first node of EonStor CS properly, and repeat the step
until all the other nodes are successfully boot up.
2. Cluster Cabling
Introduces what’s the CS cluster network architecture/topology, and how to connect with three different
network to establish the CS cluster.
3. Cluster Deployment
After cluster network connection is established, this section outline the process for assigning one of the CS
as the master node and using the Cluster Deployer tool to create the CS cluster.
4. Cluster Initialization
Outline the process for initialize CS cluster with EonOne Setup Wizard.
5. Connect with Client Site
At this step the CS cluster is established, the process for connect with client workstations, servers will be
introduced in here. Including creating pools, share folder and local / domain user for file sharing, and how to
access the CS from Windows, MacOS client.

1.Node Installation
In This Section
Outline the process for Installing and boot up the first node of EonStor CS properly, and repeat the step
until all the other nodes are successfully boot up.

Connecting the CS with expansion enclosure (JBOD) for expansion purpose, if you don’t the expansion
enclosure to add with CS, you can skip this step.
1.5. Node Status Checking
Power up the system and make sure the storage is working normally, outline the action you should take if
there is any abnormal status for CS.

Screwdriver: Locks the rack and enclosure chassis
Anti-static wrist wrap: Prevents static electricity
Rack space: Depends on form factor of enclosure
Microsoft Windows client PC/notebook: Used for configuring system

Switches: For connecting management/internal/front-end network. We strongly recommend that use
dedicated switch for each network to prevent system performance downgrade.

1-2. Rackmount Installation
Please do the hardware installation device by device, checking single device (node) first. You can proceed
to install another node only if setting up previous one without any problem.
Install rackmount kit (Slide rail kit) on rack and enclosure.
Checking the contents of the slide rail kit
Assembling the slide rail kit
1. Determine the position where to install the enclosure to the front and rear rack posts, then
insert the cage nuts into the designated holes of the front rack posts.
Note! If the rack does not require M5 cage nuts and has its own screw threads, use the M6
or No. 10-32 screws on the front posts.
2. Loosen the four screws on the slide rail (A), adjust its length (B), then secure the slide rail to

the front and rear rack posts using the M5 9.0mm screws (C). Tighten the four screws on the
slide rail to fix the length.
3. Attach the inner glides to both sides of the enclosure using the no. 6-32 flathead screws.
4. With the assistance of another person, lift and insert the enclosure onto the slide rails.
Ensure that the inner glides on both sides of the enclosure meet the inner glide rails. Secure
the enclosure using the M5, M6, or no. 10-32 screws on the front.

1-3. Install Drive on Trays
For CS 3016/3024/4016/4024
Press the release button to open the spring handle.
Orient the hard drive to the tray with the interface connectors facing the open side of the tray and
the label is facing up (A). Secure the drive to the correct holes of the tray using the four bundled
screws (B).
Insert the assembled hard drive and tray to the enclosure with the spring handle open.

Close the spring handle when the drive is fully inserted to the bay.
IMPORTANT! The system should be full of drives.

For CS 4025B
Press the release button to open the spring handle.
Place the hard drive on the tray (A), then secure the clips to both sides of the tray (B).
Insert the assembled hard drive and tray to the enclosure with the spring handle open.

Close the spring handle when the drive is fully inserted to the bay.
IMPORTANT! Hard drives are installed in all drive slots of the systems.

1-4. JBOD connections (Optional)
Setup the JBOD Expansions
Locate the rotary ID switch on the JBOD’s front panel.
Use a small flat blade screwdriver to set a unique ID on the JBOD expansion system.
IMPORTANT! When setting an ID on the JBOD system, you must start from 1. Use the same JBOD
models if you want to attach more storage expansions. Refer to CS Expansion Guide for more
information
Install the new expansion enclosure to the rack

Connecting JBOD Expansions (Example)
Connect CS onboard SAS IN port to the OUT port on the expansion enclosure.
Connect expansion enclosure (1) SAS IN port to the OUT port on the expansion enclosure (2).

1-5. Node Status Checking
Connect the bundled power cords to the power sockets of the system (A).
Turn on the networking devices and the expansion systems.
Press the start button to turn on CS system (B).
You can observe the LEDs located at the front panel/power supplies at the rear of the enclosure/on drive
tray. Wait until all LEDs turn into normal status without red/amber lights (Please check LED status for each
part in the following section). If the LED color is still in red/amber for more than 3 minutes after powering
up, please check the following diagnostic guide.
Check LED status of front panel/power supply.
The following table shows the status of CS front panel LED, the system works normally with , ,
, and remain green light.
