andintotalnotmorethan100forthewholebeamcross-section.
AnyadjustmentstotheEK80systemlesaredoneautomatically.Nogainadjustmentsare
required.
AnewcalibrationmayalsoberequirediftheEK80softwareisupdated.Refertothe
softwarereleasenote.
TheinformationprovidedbythecalibrationisenteredintotheEK80softwareasoperational
parameters.Thisisdoneautomatically.TheEK80systemusesthenarrow-bandcalibration
forCWoperations,andthewide-bandcalibrationforLFMoperations.Innarrow-band
calibration,thefactorygainandtheSacorrectionarestoredfortheselectedpulselength.
Thebeamopeningandoffsetvaluesarestored/updatedforthelastroundofcalibration.
•ForaCWoperationwithanot-calibratedpulselength,thefactorygainandtheSa
correctionwillbeused,whereasthebeamopeningandoffsetvalueswillbeextracted
fromthelastroundofcalibration.
•ForaLFMoperation,thewide-bandcalibrationisusedforallpulselengths.
ATScalibrationcanalsobea"sanity"checkofthesystem,asitallowsyoutoverifythatall
partsofthesystemworkcorrectly.
Tip
WerecommendthatyoucalibratetheEK80incalmsea.Inareaswithcalmseaandlow
seacurrents,positioningthesphereandkeepingitwithinthedetectionareaoftheEK80
transduceriseasier.
Sacorrection
TheSacorrectionisonlycalculatedforCWtransmissions.
•WhencalibratingaWideBandTransceiver(WBT),theeffectivepulsedurationis
calculatedandusedtoestablishtheSacorrection.ThiswillnormallyresultinaSa
correctionaround0dB.
•WhencalibratingaGeneralPurposeTransceiver(GPT),theSacorrectionisbasedonthe
nominalpulseduration.ThiswillnormallyresultinaslightlynegativeSacorrection.
