The electronical equipment and machinery described in these
Operating lnstructions are used in industrial power installations.
This equipment incorporates hazardous parts that are live, moving
or rotating during operation. Severe personal injury or damage to
equipment may occur it eg. any required enolosures or covers are
inappropriately removed or the equipment is insutticiently serviced.

1. Survey
LECOM-LI is a grnup et cennectinn elements te centrel the Lenze
drive centrellers via plaatic tibre-optic cablea.
The greup et LECOM-LI cnnnectien elements cemprises adaptnrs
with optical tranamitters and nptical receivers, diatributers and
pewer supply unit tor intercennecting plastic fibre-eptic cables.
As drive centrnller yen mey use any unit of the follewing series
equipped with the RS-232 interface:
• 4800
• 4900
• 8100
• 8300
• 8600
• 9200
Any computer equipped with the RS-232 interface can be uaed as
master:
• PLC
• PC
• treely pregrammable procesaer
The tibre-eptic adapter must be directly cennected te the RS-232
interface ef the Lenze drive controtler and the master computer.
All the single drives are interconnected in a ring-type netwerk by
means ot an tibre-eptic cable which starta and ends at the master.
The drive controliers are optically, not electrically interconnected.
As a result the communication cables have the best posaible
protection againat electrical interterences (EMC>.

2. General
2.1 Function
LECOM-LI werks on the basis of optical transmission by means ot
plastic tibre-optic cables.
The tibre-optic adaptors are equipped with an optical tranamitter
and an optical receiver.
By meaes ot the electrooptic tranaducer (light tranamitter) electrical
signals are changed to optical signals, the optoelectric transducer
changes (light receiver) optical signals te electrical signals.
The fibre-optic adaptor is equipped with two Iamps tortunction
control:
The receivlflg pilot lamp (RxD) flashes when receiving an
optical signal.
Thetransmitting pilot lamp (TxD) tlashes when
transmitting an optical signal
The tibre-optic adaptor must be directly connected te the RS-232
interface of the digitized Lenze drive controllerorthe master
computer.

2.2. Cammunlcatian protacol
LECOM-LI supports the communication protocol
— LECOM-A/B.
The protocol LECOM-A/B allows the master computer te use all
parameters of the drive controller. LECOM-A/B transmits all
parameter values in (orm ot acknowledged messages.
The transmission time is 9600 baud which means 20 te 30
parametern are transmitted per second. The transmission ot one
parameter usually takes abeut 30 ms te max. 50 ms.

2.3 Type af cannectian
LECOM-LI is the optical connection between the master computer
and the drive controller.
2.3.1 Fibre-aptic ring
A ring.shaped topology is used. The signals are transmitted to the
next ring by means 01 an tibre-optic adaptor. The optical signal is
amplitied by the fibre-optic adaptor and transmitted te the next
component ot the ring. The TxD-lamp at Ihe tibre-optic adaptor
flashes when an optical signal is amplified and transmitted and a
signal is transmilted by the controller.

2.3.2 Fibre-optic netwark
The tibre-optic distributor 2124 physically subdivides the fibre-optL
eng in suorings and interconnects them to a network. tt is not
necessary to assign all 4 subrings.

• The fibre-optic d~stributor transmits the signais (rom the tibra-optic
top ring (channei 0) to all 4 fibre-optic subrings (channel 1-4)) and
the signals from the 4 t;bre-optic subrings (channel 1 - 4) are
tranamitted to the tibre-optic top ring (channel 0). You can connect
either one, several or ne drive controllers to a fibre-optic subring.
Wben de-energizing the drive controller, only the communication
with the drive controtlers connected to this aubring is interrupted, all
• • other drive controllers can be contacted.
Multi-cascading of tbe tibre-optic distributors 5 possible, i.e.
another tibre-optic distributor can ha connected to the fibre-optic
sehnig, and then another tibre-optic distributor can ha connected
to thls subring, etc. (to find out about the maximum number of (ihre-
oplic diatnibutons, please see 2.6).
Because of the multi-cascading ot the tibre-optic distrihutors, it is
possible to connect only one drive controller to a fihre-opt:c
suhring.
If one of the drive controllers is de-energized, the commun~cation
with the other drive controllers will not ha interrupted.

2.4 Cannectian distance
The maximum ttbre-optic cable length between two tibre-optic
adaptore, dopende on
• tranamitter‘s output
• receivers sensitivity
• tibre-optic cable attenuation.
lt the transmission power ot the tibre-optic adaptor is too email, the
signal will not ha received CIearly. lt the transmission power is tOo
high, the signal will be overdriven.
The cable attenuation depende on
• tibre-optic cable quality
• tibre-optic cable Iength
• wave length.
The wave length used 5 b6Onm.
The tibre-optic Cable quality ix detined in deeibel per kIlometer
(dB/km) and detcrmined by the cable used.
Some tibre-optic adaptore have changeable transmission powers
(minimum and maximum), and theretore they can ha used tor two
ditterent cable lengths.
In the tollowing, the possible cable lengtha are aasigned to the
transmission powers ot Ihe single adaptore tors cable attenuation
ot 150dB/km:

2.5.2 Cable types
The tihre-optiC Cables delivered by Lenze are:
single-core tibre-optit, black, part no. 359 679 and
• single-core tibre-optic with red PUR sheath, part no. 359 681.

2.5.3 Preparation of cables
• Gut cable to lcngth at right anglas an a rigid base using a sharp
knite.
Be aura to usa a good as naw blade (e.g. utility knife)
• Remove 20 mm ot the rad PUR sheath, it presont.
• Poliah ond ot tibre optic cable (grain = Pl 000).
Note:
With unpolishad tibre-optic Cable ends, the maximum Cable
langth is typically reducad by 13 m (sf150 dB/km).
A spetial )ibra-optic connector is not raquired.
2.5.4 Connectlon
• Insert tibre-optic cable end info tha tranamitter or receivar
houaing as far as posaible.
• Tighten ptnch screw joint cautiously.
2.5.5 Assembly
• Gonneet tha white fibre-optic adaptor connactor (trransmittar,
ToD) ot the master computer to the black tibre-optic adaptor
connector (recaiver, RaD) ot Ihe cuntroller by using a plastic
fibre-optic cable.
• Connect the white tibra-optic adaptor connector (tranamitter,
ToD) ot the controller to tho black tibre-optic adaptor connector
(receiver, RxD> ot tho noxt controller, etc.
• Connect the white fibre-optic adaptor connactor (tranamitter,
ToD> ot tha last controller to tha black tibre-optic adaptor
connector (recetver, RxD) ot the master computer.
Wheri using tha tibre-optic distributor, please act corraapondingly
(see fig. 2.3.2).
Note:
__ Banding radius should ha at least 30 mm.

2.6 Number of participants
To ensure best receiving quality tor tibre-optic adaptors, the
number ot participants is limitert.
All tibre-optic adaptors directly or indirectly connected 10 a master
computer tibre-optic adaptor form a fibre-optic ring (see page 6).
When using tibre-optic distributors, an tibre-optic network will be
tormert <see page 7).
Number ot participants in a fibre-aptic ring
A tibra-optic ring with max. 52 tibre-optic admptors may ha
connected to the master computer tibre-optic adaptors 2125 and
2126.
Number ot partlaipantre in a fibre-opfle network
WI,en using hie tibre optic distributors, Ihe sIgnale pass through
hie fibre-optic subrings at Ihe same lima. Qnly hie fibre-optic
subring with Wie most tibre-optic adaptors must be considerad tor
Ihe calculatton ot hie signal distortion. As a result, more Ihan 52
tibre-optic adaptors can ha used in a tibre-optic network willi fibre -
optic distributore.
Calculation ot die maximum number ot fibre-optic adaptore
connected to a master calculator fibre-optic adaptor:
• Add the signal distortion ot Ihe passed fibre-optic adaptors and
Wie tibre-optic distribulors. You wIll tind the signal distortion ot
every unit in the Technical dato‘ (see Description of tha units“,
chapter 3).
• The sum 01 tha stgnal distortions may not exceed 40,5 Ps.
LECQM-AJB can organize max. 90 addresses, i.e. max. 90 lilire -
oplic adaplore can ha used in a tibre-optlc network.

2.7 Commissioning
27.1 Danger notes
2.7.2 Supply voltage
The tibre-optic adaptor at the drive controller is aupplied by the
drive controller itselt. The tibre-optic adaptor St the master
computer is supplied by an extarrtal power supply unit (part no. 352
016). The tibre-Optic &stributor 5 supplied by an esternal 24V DC
voltage.
Note:
lt the drive controller 5 de-energized (disconnected trom
mama) the tibre-optic ring will ha interruptad.
When having 5 separate supply ot power stage and control stege
ot the drive controllcr, the power stage may ha de-energized (eg.
tor sataty reasons). The control stage, and thus the tibre-optic
adaptor, remain ready tor Operation
2.7.3 Setting of the drive controller
To connect the drive controllar to a tibre-optic ring er a tibra-optic
network, the tollowing parameters must be set:
• Enter contruller address under coo
• Setoperating mode under 001:
-2- tor parameter setting via interface RS-232
-3- tor control and parameter setting via interface RS-232.
• Save changed parameters under 003.

Note:
Each controller address can only be assirtned once.

Caution:
1. The opticar tibre can ha in)luertced by strong magnetic tields
(e. g. busbars ot galvanic systems).
2. For external supply ot Ihe tibre-optic adaptors 2125 and 2126,
pin 9 ot the sub-D socket may not be wired in the master
computer, otherwise, the master computer can be dastroyad.

2.7.4 Connection test
We recommend to check the tibre-optic ring tor Commissioning the
communication network LECOM-LI. Vou rio not need a master
computer tor this test.
After having completed the installation ot the tibre-optic network,
Ihe tollowing fest helps to check the network:
• Separate the fibre-optic adaptor 2125 or 2126 trom Ihe master
drive.
• Graste ahorting plug (bride 9 pole Sub-D-plug, pin 9 and pin 3
with lkD /aW).
• Connect ahorting plug to tibre-opttc adaptor 2125 or 2126.
• Apply supply voltage to all drive controllers in Ihe tibre-optic
network.
• Apply supply voltage to all tibre-optic distributors.
• Apply suppiy voltage to the tibre-optic adaptor 2125 or 2126.
Reault:
TxD and RxD lamps ot all tibre-optic adaptors and tibre-
optic distributors are tlashing, i.e. all tibre-optic adaptors
are connected properly to the tibre-optic cable.
1) they are not connected properly, the TxD and RxD lamps will
remain dark as trom the point ot interruption ot the tibre-optic
netwo rk.
This test helps In easily find taults occudng in the fibre-optic
network.

3. Description of the units
3.1 Fibre-optic adaptor 2121 tor 8100 E5 inverter
series

3.1.1 Assembly
1. De-energize the 8100 controller.
2. Assemble the tibre-optit adaptor 2121 direttly into the 8100 by
means ot twa strews instead ot the Opole Sub-D connection.
3. Connect the enclosed ribbon Cable to the terminal connection
X2 ot the 8100 POB.
4. Set tranamitter power by means ot the jumper
(presetting: ‚min).
5. Connect tibre-optic cable.
