STEP 1: Preparation
Remove the End Caps located on the top of each Nelson Wing
Support Arm
NOTE: This manual assumes you have already completed assembly of your original Nelson model carrier.

Slide one (1) Fly Rod Adapter [A] onto each Wing Support Arm
and tighten the adjustment knob until snug [Fg. 2].
TIP: The Fly Rod Adapters can be placed facing in any
direction and safely carry Fly Rod accessories, however it is
recommended that Fly Rod Adapters are installed so that they
mirror each other (see gures 3, 4 & 5 for examples).
NOTE: Nelson bicycle wheel cradles do not need to be
removed to install the Fly Rod Adapter. Images are shown
without bike wheel cradles for clarity only. Both bicycles and
user supplied Fly Rod accessories can be transported on the
same Wing so long as equipment does not exceed the weigh
limit.
Slide one (1) 1/4-20 Bolt [D] through the hole in the center of
one (1) Tie-off Plate [B]. [Fg. 6]
NOTE: The 1/4-20 Bolt should enter the Plate through the side
of the plate without the square indentation.
Thread one (1) Star Nut [C] onto the end of the 1/4-20 Bolt [D]
so that its sits with .25in of bolt exposed at the end. [Fg. 7]
NOTE: The direction of the Star Nut is important and should
have its “ns” point towards the Tie-off Plate [D].
Repeat these steps for the remaining 1/4-20 Bolt [D], Tie-off Plate [B] and Star Nut [D].
Press each newly created Tie-off Assembly [B, C, D] into the open ends
of the Wing Support Arms until the square indentation on the bottom the
Tie-off Plate [B] full seats onto the Wing Support Arms. [Fg. 8]
NOTE: The “Key Hole” on the Tie-off Plate [D] must face towards the
opposite Wing Support Arm.

STEP 7: Suspension Cable Tensioning
Once both Tie-off assemblies are attached.
Remove ONE Tie-off Plate [B] by unbolting the 1/4-20 Bolt [D]. The Star
Nut [C] will remain in place for future use. [Fg. 9]
Loosen the Ring Pins (refer to your Nelson Manual for more information
on Ring Pins) connecting the Wing Support Arms to allow the Wings to
move slightly. [Fg.10]
Two balls are given at each of the Suspension Cable [E] to allow
for three length settings and to help with t. In order to create
proper tension on the Cable you will want to use the ball setting
that provides the tightest available t.
Begin tensioning the Suspension Cable [E] by locking 2nd ball
from one end of the Cable into the into the key hole of the Tie-off
Plate [B] still attached to a Wing Support Arm.
On the other side of the Suspension Cable [E], lock the 2nd ball
in from the end into the loose Tie-off Plate [B] key-hole and then
re-seat the Tie-off Plate onto the open Wing Support Arm End.
This is the tightest possible setting. [Fg. 11 & 12]
If the Suspension Cable [E] is too tight at this setting to seat
properly, change the ball setting by one side only and re-test until
Tie-off Plate [B] seats over the open Wing End. [Fg. 13]
NOTE: The Suspension Cable [E] ball setting on one side does
not need to be the same as the opposite side; users may nd the
best t is to use the rst ball on one side and the second ball on
the other.
IMPORTANT: The Suspension Cable [E] MUST be completely
taut and without slack.

Loop the looped end of the each Webbing Strap [F] around the end of
the Tie-off Plate [B]. [Fg. 16]
NOTE: The looped end of the Webbing Strap [F] must be placed so
the length of the webbing strap hangs from the
bottom of the Tie-off Plate . [Fg. 17]
Secure each S-Hook [G] to the preferred
tie-down locations in the truck bed with one
reaching as far towards the truck cab as
possible and the other as close to the back of
the bed as possible as shown.
Lace the Webbing Strap [F] though the Cam
Buckle [G] attached to the S-Hook and tighten
until taut. [Fg. 18 & 19]

With the Tie-off Plate [B] fully seated, re-insert and tighten the 1/4-20 Bolt [D]. [Fg. 14]

Do not exceed the 50lbs weigh limit of the Fly Rod Adapter Bars (25 lbs weight limit for each Fly Rod Adapter) and
the separate 120 lbs overal weight limit of the V-Wings. Failure to follow weigh limits may result in damage to carrier,
damage to property, bodily injury or death.
Always check and conrm all truck tie-down locations, cam buckles and webbing straps are tight and fully secured
before each transit. Failure to follow proper installation and equipment checks before transit may result in damage
to carrier, damage to property, bodily injury or death.

WEIGH LIMITATIONS EXPLAINED
The Fly Rod Cradles have a 25 lbs weight limit each for a combined 50 lbs. Accessories attached to the Fly Rod Cradles
may not exceed 50 lbs. [Fg. 20]
The Tie-offs included in this kit increase the overall weight limit of the V-Wing to a combined 120 lbs.
EXAMPLE: Users MAY carry a 50 lbs Rod Vault attached to the Fly Rod Cradles [A] and also carry two bikes at 35 lbs
each on the V-Wing.
EXAMPLE: Users MAY NOT carry a 60 lbs roof top cargo carrier attached to the Fly Rod Cradles [A].
