ImportantSafetyInstructions
Safety requirements
Whenusing yourtelephoneequipment, basicsafetyprecautionsshouldalwaysbefollowed toreducetherisk offire,
electricshock andotherpersonal injury, includingthefollowing:
•Pleasereadandunderstandallinstructions.
•Followallwarningsandinstructionsmarked onthe product.
•Unplugthisproductfromthewalloutletbeforecleaning.Just adampclothshouldbeusedforcleaning; do notuse
liquidoraerosol cleaners.
•Donotusethisproductnearwater,suchasinabathtub,washbowl,kitchensink,orlaundrytub,inawet
basement,ornearaswimming pool.
•Donotplacethisproducton anunstablecart,stand, ortable.Theproductmayfall, causingseriousdamagetothe
productorpersonal injury.
•SlotsandopeningsintheKSUandtheback orbottomareprovidedforventilation,toprotectitfromoverheating,
theseopeningsmustnotbe blocked orcovered.Theopeningsshouldneverbeblocked byplacing theproduct on
abed,sofa, rug, orothersimilarsurface.Thisproductshouldneverbe placed nearoroveraradiatororotherheat
source.Thisproductshouldnotbe placedinabuilt-ininstallationwithoutproperventilation.
•Thisproductshouldbeoperatedonlyfromthetypeofpowersourceindicated ontheproductlabel.Ifyou arenot
sureofthetypeofpowersupplytoyourhome, consult yourdealerorlocal powercompany.
•Donotallowanythingtorestonthepowercord.Donotlocatethisproductwherethe cordcouldbeabused by
peoplewalkingonit.
•Donotoverload walloutletsandextension cordsasthiscanresultintheriskoffireorelectricshock.
•Neverpushobjectsofanykind intothisproductthroughKSUslotsorconnectorsastheymaytouchdangerous
voltage pointsorshortoutpartsthat couldresultinariskoffireorelectricshock. Neverspillliquidofanykind on
the product.
•Toreducethe riskofelectricshock,donotdisassemblethisproduct.Instead,takeittoaqualifiedperson when
serviceorrepairworkisrequired.Opening orremovingcoversmayexposeyoutodangerousvoltagesorother
risk.Incorrectreassemblecan causeelectricshockwhentheapplianceissubsequentlyused.
•Unplugthisproductfromthe wall outletandreferservicing toqualifiedservicepersonnel underthe following
conditions:
-Whenthepowersupplycordorplug isdamagedorfrayed.
-If liquidhasbeenspilled intothe product.
-If the producthasbeenexposedtorain orwater.
-If theproductdoesnotoperatenormallybyfollowingthe operating instructions.Adjustonlythosecontrolsthat
arecoveredbytheoperating instructionsbecauseimproperadjustmentofothercontrolsmayresultin damage
and willoftenrequireextensiveworkbyaqualifiedtechnician torestoretheproducttonormal operation.
-If the producthasbeen droppedortheKSUhasbeen damaged.
-If the productexhibitsadistinctchange inperformance.
•Avoidusingatelephoneduring anelectrical storm. Theremaybe aremoteriskofelectricshock fromlightning.
•Intheevent ofagasleak,do notusethetelephone neartheleak.

Precaution
•Keepthesystemawayfromheatingappliancesandelectricalnoisegeneratingdevicessuchasfluorescent
lamps,motorsandtelevisions.Thesenoisesourcescaninterferewiththe performanceoftheIPLDK-20
System.
•Thissystemshouldbe keptfree ofdust,moisture, high temperature(morethan40 degrees)and vibration, and
should not beexposedtodirectsunlight.
•Neverattempttoinsert wires,pins,etc.intothe system. If the systemdoesnotoperateproperly, thetroublehas
beenrepaired byanauthorizedLGservicecenter.
•Donotusebenzene,paintthinner, oranyabrasivepowdertocleantheKSU.Wipeitwithasoft cloth.
CAUTION
•Thissystemshouldonlybeinstalled andservicedbyqualifiedservicepersonnel.
•When afailureoccurswhichexposesanyinternal parts,disconnectthepowersupplycordimmediatelyand
returnthissystemtoyourdealer.
•Topreventtheriskoffire,electricshockorenergyhazard,donotexposethisproducttorainoranytypeof
moisture.
•ToprotectPCBfromstaticelectricity,dischargebodystaticbeforetouchingconnectorsand/orcomponentsby
touching groundorwearingagroundstrap.
WARNING
Dangerofexplosion ifbatteryisincorrectlyreplaced.Replaceonlywiththe sameorequivalenttyperecommendedby
themanufacturer.Disposeof usedbatteriesaccordingtothemanufacturer’sinstructions.

2.1Pre-Installation
Pleaseread thefollowing guidelinesconcerninginstallationandconnection beforeinstalling theIPLDK-20 System.
Besurealsotocomplywithapplicablelocalregulations.
2.1.1Safetyinstallation instructions
Wheninstalling thetelephone wiring,basicsafetyprecautionsshouldalways be followed toreducethe risk offire,
electricshock andpersonal injury, includingthefollowing:
•Neverinstallthe telephonewiring during alightning storm.
•Neverinstallthe telephonejackinwetlocationsunlessthejackisspecificallydesigned forwetlocations.
•Nevertouchuninsulatedtelephonewiresorterminalsunlessthetelephone line hasbeendisconnected atthe
networkinterface.
•Usecaution wheninstallingormodifyingtelephonelines.
•Anti-staticprecautionsshouldbetaken during installation.
2.1.2Installationprecautions
The IPLDK-20Systemisdesigned forwallmountingorafree-standingrack.Avoid installinginthefollowingplaces.
•Indirectsunlight andhot,cold,orhumid places.Temperaturerange: 0to40
•Placeswhereshocksorvibrationsarefrequent orstrong.
•Dustyplaces, orplaceswherewateroroilmaycomeintocontact withthe system.
•Nearhigh-frequency generatingdevicessuchassewingmachinesorelectricwelders.
•Onornearcomputers, faxmachines,orotherofficeequipment, aswellasmicrowaveovensorairconditioners.
•Donotobstructtheareaaroundthe IPLDK-20 System(forreasonsofmaintenanceandinspection)
•DonotblocktheopeningsonthetopoftheIPLDK-20 System.
•Donotstackuptheoptional serviceboards.
2.1.3Wiring precautions
Besuretofollowtheseprecautionswhenwiring.
•Donotwirethetelephone cableinparallel withanACpowersource,suchasacomputer,faxmachine,etc.Ifthe
cablesarerun nearthosewires,shieldthecableswithmetal tubing oruseshieldedcablesand groundtheshields.
•If thecablesarerun onthe floor,useprotectorstopreventthe wiresfrombeing stepped on.Avoidwiringunder
carpets.
•Avoidusingthesamepowersupplyoutletforcomputers,faxmachines,andotherofficeequipmenttoavoid
inductionnoiseinterruptionwhen using the IPLDK-20nearothermachines.
•Thepowerand batteryswitchesoftheIP LDK-20 Systemmustbe OFFduringwiring.Afterthewiringiscompleted,
the powerswitchmaybeturned ON.
•Incorrect wiring maycausethe IPLDK-20Systemtooperateimproperly.
•If anextension doesnotoperateproperly,disconnectthetelephone fromthe extensionline andthenre-connect,
orturnthepowerof the IPLDK-20SystemOFF andONagain.
•UsetwistedpaircableforCOlineconnection.

ItisveryimportanttheframeoftheIPLDK-20systemisgrounded:
1.Turnthescrewcounter-clockwisetoloosen. Theninsertthe grounding wire.

Incaseofpowerfailure,the externalbackupbatteriesautomaticallymaintainuninterrupted powerforthe IPLDK-20
system.Theexternalbatteriesmustprovide24 VoltsDC.Thisisgenerallyaccomplishedbyconnectingtwo12 Volt
batteriesinaseriesarrangement.

Operation ofthebatteriesiscontrolledbytheMBUB.ThisIPLDK-20 MBUBwillprovide chargingcurrenttothe
batteriesduringnormal ACpoweroperationatamaximumofabout100mA.Duringbatteryoperation,the battery
operation of MBUBwillbestoppedif theACpowerre-appliedorthebatteryvoltageistoo lowtomaintainfull-system
operation.
The externalbatteriescanmaintainsystemoperation asneededdepending onseveral elementssuchas,battery
chargestatus,condition and capacityofthe batteries,and systemconfiguration(numberof station ports).
