DAS VORBILD
Anfang der 90er Jahre benötigte die
U.S.-Personenzugbehörde Amtrak
dringend neue Lokomotiven für den
Fernverkehr. Die vorhandenen, 15
Jahre alten F-40PH Dieselloks
erreichten aufgrund der hohen
Geschwindigkeiten und häufigen
Starts rasch das Ende ihrer Laufzeit.
General Electric (GE) entwickelte die
erste nordamerikanische Diesellok
der letzten Jahrzehnte, die von An-
fang an als Personenzuglok konzipiert
war, statt eine Weiterentwicklung
einer Güterzuglok darzustellen.
Die 4000 PS (2941 kW) starken die-
selelektrischen Loks des GE-Typs
P40-8 zeichnen sich durch eine rah-
menlose Bauweise aus. Sogar der
Treibstofftank ist in das futuristisch
wirkende Lokgehäuse integriert. Die
Drehgestelle wurden speziell im Hin-
blick auf geringe ungefederte Massen
entwickelt, um den Fahrkomfort bei
hohen Geschwindigkeit zu steigern.
Die Loks sind für eine Höchst-
geschwindigkeit von 103 "Miles per
Hour" (165 km/h) zugelassen, daher
die Amtrak-Bezeichnung AMD 103
(Amtrak Diesel 103 mph).
Beginnend im Jahr 1993 beschaffte
Amtrak 44 Loks der ersten Serie. Seit
1995 sind über 200 weitere "Genesis
II"-Loks vom Typ P42DC mit 4200 PS
(3088 kW) dazu gekommen. Die
kanadische Personenzugbehörde
VIA Rail beschaffte ebenfalls einige
Loks der zweiten Serie. Heute findet
man diese Loks vor den meisten
Fernverkehrszügen in den USA, wo
sie oft in Doppeltraktion eingesetzt
werden.

LGB-Mehrzugsystem nicht benötigt.
Das Dach im Bereich des schwarzen
Auspuffs lässt sich zum Einbau eines
Sound-Moduls abnehmen. Falls in
der Lok nicht genug Platz ist oder Sie
die Lok nicht demontieren wollen,
kann das Sound-Modul in einem
Wagen platziert werden und über die
Mehrzweck-Steckdose an die Lok
angeschlossen werden.
Stromversorgung
Achtung! Um Sicherheit und Zu-
verlässigkeit zu gewährleisten, darf
das Modell nur mit LGB-Trafos und
Fahrreglern betrieben werden. Bei
Verwendung von anderen Trafos
wird Ihre Garantie ungültig.
Für dieses Modell einen LGB-Trafo
mit mehr als 1 A Fahrstrom einset-
zen. Weitere Informationen über die
LGB-Trafos und Fahrregler zur
Verwendung im Haus oder im Freien
und über das Mehrzugsystem finden

Achtung! Nach längerer Benutzung
kann Abrieb durch mechanische Teile

Schmierung 
Die Achslager hin und wieder mit je
einem Tropfen LGB-Pflegeöl (50019)
ölen.
Reinigung 
Sie können das Gehäuse Ihres
Modells mit einem milden
Reinigungsmittel reinigen. Das
Modell nicht in das Reinigungsmittel
eintauchen.
Austauschen der Haftreifen 
- Jeweils eine Schraube an beiden
Enden der Drehgestellblende lösen.
Drehgestellblende abnehmen.
- Mit einen kleinen flachen
Schraubendreher den alten
Haftreifen entfernen:
- Den alten Haftreifen aus der Rille
(Nut) im Treibrad hebeln.
- Vorsichtig den neuen Haftreifen
über das Rad schieben und in
die Rille (Nut) des Rads einsetzen.
- Überprüfen, dass der Haftreifen
richtig sitzt.
- Modell wieder zusammenbauen.

BEDIENUNG
Betriebsarten
Das Modell hat einen vierstufigen
Betriebsarten-Schalter in der Rück-
wand des Führerstands (Abb. 1, 2),
den man durch die geöffnete Tür des
Führerstands erreicht:
Position 0: Stromlos abgestellt
Position 1: Beleuchtung ist einge-
schaltet
Position 2: Lokmotor und Beleucht-
ung sind eingeschaltet
Position 3: wie Position 2 (werkseitige
Einstellung bei Auslieferung)
Achtung! Nicht mehrere Triebfahr-
zeuge mit unterschiedlichem Anfahr-
verhalten zusammenkuppeln, da dies
zu Getriebeschäden führen kann.
Mehrzugsystem
Das Modell ist mit einer Digital-
Schnittstelle zum Anschluss eines
DCC-Decoders mit 3-Ampere ausge-
stattet (Abb. 3). Auf der Decoder-
schnittstelle befindet sich eine
Brücke. Die Brücke abziehen und
statt dessen den Decoder ansch-
ließen. Das Dach im Bereich des
schwarzen Auspuffs lässt sich zum
Einbau des Decoders abnehmen.
Beleuchtung
Die Beleuchtung des Modells wech-
selt mit der Fahrtrichtung. Das
Modell hat eine Mehrzweck-
Steckdose für Flachstecker an der
Rückwand (Abb. 4). Über die
Steckdose können Sie LGB-Wagen
mit Beleuchtung oder mit Geräusch-
elektronik an die Gleisspannung an-
schließen. Dazu die Abdeckung von
der Steckdose abziehen. Sollte die
Abdeckung zu fest sitzen, diese vor-
sichtig mit einem kleinen Schrauben-
zieher heraushebeln. (Jedoch nicht
das äußere rechteckige Gehäuse her-
ausziehen.)
Vorsicht! Nicht direkt in den Licht-
kegel blicken. Die hellen LEDs kön-
nen das Sehvermögen beeinträchti-
gen.

Amtrak Genesis Diesel Loco
THE PROTOTYPE
In the early 1990s, Amtrak urgently
needed new locomotives for their
long distance passenger trains.
Because of the high speeds and fre-
quent starts, the existing, 15-year-
old F-40PH diesel locos were wear-
ing out rapidly. General Electric (GE)
developed the first North American
diesel loco in decades that was
designed specifically as a passenger
train locomotive, rather than as an
adaptation of a freight locomotive.
Equipped with a powerful 4000 hp
diesel engine, the GE P40-8 locos
features an innovative unit-body con-
struction. The loco's futuristic
bodyshell carries all the loads, and
there is no separate frame. Even the
fuel tank has been integrated into the
body. The trucks were designed for
low unsprung weight to improve
comfort at high speeds. The locos
are certified for a maximum speed of
103 mph (165 km/h) – thus their
official name AMD 103 (Amtrak
Diesel 103 mph).
Starting in 1993, Amtrak purchased
an initial series of 44 locos. Since
1995, more than 200 additional
"Genesis II" locos (Type P42DC) with
4200 hp have been added to the ros-
ter. VIA Rail in Canada also operates
a number of "Genesis II" locos.
Today, these locos pull most of the
long-distance passenger trains in the
United States. Often two locos are
used to double-head the heavy
"Superliner" trains.

OPERATION
Operating Modes
This model has a four-way power
control switch in the back wall of the
cab (Fig. 1, 2). To set the switch,
reach through the open cab door:
Position 0: All power off
Position 1: Power to lights
Position 2: Power to motor and lights
Position 3: Same as Position 2 (fac-
tory pre-set)
Attention: Do not connect this model
to other loco models with different
starting characteristics. This can
damage the internal gearing.
Multi-Train System:
The model is equipped with a digital
interface to connect a 3 amp DCC
decoder (Fig. 3). To install the
decoder, remove the roof in the area
of the black exhaust vent. Remove
the plug on the decoder interface and
connect the decoder.

Lighting
This model features directional light-
ing. The model has a "flat" multi-pur-
pose socket, with a removable cover,
on the rear wall (Fig. 4). This socket
can be used to provide track power
to LGB cars with lighting or sound
electronics.
To remove the cover of the socket,
pull it straight out. If the cover is
tight, gently use a small straight
screwdriver to pry it out. (Do not pull
out the rectangular outer housing.)
Caution! Do not look directly into the
lights. The bright LEDs can damage
your eyesight.
Sound
To equip this model with sound, we
recommend the following products:
- 65003 American Diesel Sound Unit
- 65011 Sound Unit Power Storage
The 65011 is not needed when oper-
ating with the LGB Multi-Train
System.
To install the sound unit, remove the

vent. If there is not enough space
inside the locomotive, or if you pre-
fer not to disassemble the loco, you
can place the Sound Unit in a freight
or passenger car and connect it to
the locomotive via the multi-purpose
socket.
Power Supply
Attention! For safety and reliability,
operate this model with LGB power
supplies (transformers, power packs
and controls) only. The use of non-
LGB power supplies will void your
warranty.
Use this model with LGB power sup-
plies with an output of more than 1

Attention! After extended operation,
this model may leave carbon dust or
other debris around the track. This
dust and debris can stain carpet and

Lubrication 
The axle bearings should be lubricat-
ed occasionally with a small amount
of LGB Maintenance Oil (50019).
Cleaning 
This model can be cleaned externally
using a mild detergent and gentle
stream of water. Do not immerse this
model.
Replacing the traction tires 
- Remove one screw on each end of
the outside frame on the power
truck. Remove the outside truck
frame.
- Use a small, straight-blade screw-
driver to replace the traction tire:
- Pry the old traction tire out of the
wheel groove.
- Gently insert the new traction tire
into the wheel groove.

Locomotive diesel Genesis
d’Amtrak
LE PROTOTYPE
Amtrak eut au début des années
1990 un besoin urgent de nouvelles
locomotives pour le trafic voyageurs
à grande distance. Les machines en
service, des locomotives diesel F-40
PH de 15 ans d’âge, vieillissaient
rapidement sous les contraintes
imposées par les démarrages fré-
quents et les vitesses élevées.
General Electric (GE) lança alors l’é-
tude de la première locomotive diesel
nord-américaine spécialement
conçue pour le transport de voya-
geurs, et ce depuis des décennies,
plutôt que d’adapter une locomotive
traditionnelle conçue pour tirer les
trains de marchandises.
Equipée d’un puissant moteur diesel
de 4000 CV, la locomotive GE P40-8
est de construction monocoque, une
innovation pour l’époque. La coque
futuriste de la locomotive supporte
toutes les charges, et il n’y a pas de
châssis séparé, même le réservoir de
carburant est intégré à la caisse. Les
bogies ont été étudiés pour avoir un
poids non suspendu faible afin d’a-
méliorer le confort à une grande
vitesse. Les locomotives ont été cer-
tifiées pour une vitesse de pointe de
165 km/h (103 mph); d’où leur dési-
gnation officielle AMD 103 (Amtrak
Diesel 103 mph).
Amtrak fit l’acquisition, dès 1993,
d’une série initiale de 44 locomoti-
ves. Depuis 1995, plus de 200 loco-
motives supplémentaires « Genesis
II » (de Type P42DC), d’une puissan-
ce de 4200 CV, ont rejoint le parc.
Via Rail, au Canada, utilise également
un certain nombre de locomotives «
Genesis II ». De nos jours, ces
machines tirent la plupart des trains
de voyageurs de grand parcours aux
Etats-Unis. Deux locomotives sont
souvent utilisées en double traction
pour tirer les lourds convois «
Superliner ».
LE MODÈLE RÉDUIT
Cette fidèle reproduction présente les
caractéristiques suivantes :

FONCTIONNEMENT
Modes opératoires
Ce modèle est équipé d’un sélecteur
d’alimentation à quatre positions
situé sur la paroi arrière de la cabine
(figures 1, 2). L’accès se fait par la
porte de cabine ouverte :
Position 0 : Alimentation coupée
Position 1 : Alimentation de l’éclaira-
ge
Position 2 : Alimentation des
moteurs et de l’éclairage
Position 3 : Identique à la position 2
(position d’origine usine)
Attention : Pour éviter d’endomma-
ger le train d’engrenages, ne pas
accoupler ce modèle réduit à d’aut-
res modèles de locomotive ayant des
caractéristiques de démarrage diffé-
rentes.
Système multitrain
Ce modèle réduit est équipé d’une
interface numérique pour raccorder
un décodeur DCC de 3A (Fig. 3).
Pour installer le décodeur, enlever la
partie du toit située près de l’orifice
de ventilation noir. Enlever le capu-
chon de l’interface et raccorder le
décodeur.
Éclairage
Ce modèle est équipé d’un éclairage
qui s’allume automatiquement sui-
vant le sens de la marche. Il possè-
de une douille à usages multiples
«plate» avec couvercle amovible
située sur la cloison arrière (Fig. 4).
Cette douille peut être utilisée pour
fournir l’alimentation électrique de la
voie aux voitures LGB munies d’une
électronique d’éclairage ou de son.
Pour enlever le couvercle de la
douille, tirez simplement dessus. S'il
ne sort pas, utilisez un petit tournevis
droit pour le plier légèrement. (Ne
sortez pas le logement extérieur rec-
tangulaire).
Attention : Ne pas regarder les feux
en face. Les DEL brillantes peuvent
endommager la vue.
Effets sonores
Pour équiper ce modèle d’un systè-
me d’effets sonores, nous recom-
mandons d’utiliser les produits sui-
vants :
- 65003 Générateur de bruit de loco-
motive diesel – Amérique
- 65011 Alimentation générateur
d’effets sonores
L’accessoire 65011 n’est pas néces-
saire avec le système multitrain.
Pour installer l’alimentation du géné-
rateur d’effets sonores, enlever la
partie du toit située près de l’orifice
de ventilation noir. S’il n’y a pas
assez de place à l’intérieur de la loco-
motive ou si vous ne voulez pas la
démonter, vous pouvez placer le
générateur de bruit dans une voiture
ou un wagon et le raccorder à la
locomotive par la douille à usages
multiples.
Blocs d’alimentation
Attention ! Pour des raisons de
sécurité et de fiabilité, n’utiliser que
les blocs d’alimentation LGB (trans-
formateurs, groupes d’alimentation
et commandes) pour faire fonction-
ner ce modèle réduit. L’utilisation de
blocs d’alimentation autres que les
blocs d’alimentation LGB rendra la
garantie nulle et non avenue.
Pour ce modèle, utiliser un bloc d’a-
limentation LGB de sortie supérieu-
re à 1 A. Se reporter au catalogue
général LGB pour des renseigne-
ments complémentaires au sujet des
blocs d’alimentation LGB pour utili-
sation à l’intérieur, à l’extérieur et
pour le système multitrain.
Attention ! Après un certain temps,
ce modèle réduit peut laisser des tra-
ces de carbone ou d’autres débris
autour des voies. Cette poussière et
ces débris peuvent tacher les tapis et
autres matériaux. Pensez-y lors de la
création de votre réseau. Ernst Paul

Lubrification 
Les roulements des essieux doivent
être lubrifiés de temps à autre avec
une goutte d’huile de nettoyage LGB
(50019).
Nettoyage 
Nettoyer l’extérieur du modèle réduit
avec de l’eau sous faible pression et
un détersif léger. Ne pas immerger le
modèle réduit dans l’eau.
Remplacement des pneus de
traction 
- Enlever une vis à chaque extrémité
de l’armature extérieure du bogie
moteur. Déposer la structure exté-
rieure du bogie.
- Utiliser un petit tournevis à lame
droite pour remplacer le pneu de
traction :
- Sortir avec précaution le vieux pneu
de la gorge de la roue.
- Placer avec précaution le pneu neuf
dans la gorge de la roue.
- S’assurer que le pneu de traction
est bien assis dans la gorge de la
roue.
- Remonter le tout.
Remarque : Ce modèle réduit est
équipé de deux pneus de traction.
