Informationen zum Vorbild
Die seit 1957 im Dienst befindlichen Diesel-Triebzüge der
Baureihe 601 (VT 11.5) waren um 1970 mit ihrer Höchst-
geschwindigkeit von 140 km/h nicht hundertprozentig den
Anforderungen des Intercity-Verkehrs gewachsen. Daher
beschloss die Deutsche Bundesbahn, einige Triebköpfe mit
einer leistungsfähigeren Gasturbine anstatt den bisher ver-
wendeten Dieselmotoren umzurüsten. Dieser Umbau führte
auch zu deutlichen optischen Änderungen an den Triebköp-
fen durch vergrößerte Lufteinlässe und Abgaskamine.
Dank der doppelten Leistung der Gasturbinen gegenüber
den Dieselmotoren stieg die Höchstgeschwindigkeit auf 160
km/h. Erkauft wurde dies jedoch durch einen deutlich hö-
heren Verbrauch. Bedingt auch durch die Folgen der ersten
Erdölkrise Anfang der 1970er-Jahre wurden daher nur vier
Triebköpfe fertiggestellt und als Baureihe 602 eingereiht.
Information about the prototype
The class 601 (VT 11.5) diesel powered rail car train had
been in service since 1957, but around 1970 it no longer met
the requirements 100 percent for intercity passenger service
with its maximum speed of 140 km/h / 87.5 mph. The German
Federal Railroad therefore decided to convert several po-
wered end units of the train to a more powerful gas turbine
from the diesel motors used previously. This conversion also
resulted in rather distinct changes in the appearance of the
powered end units with the addition of larger air inlets and
exhaust stacks.
Thanks to the twofold increase in power from the gas
turbines compared to the diesel motors, the maximum speed
increased to 160 km/h / 100 mph. However, this came at
the cost of much higher fuel consumption. Because of the
effects of the first oil crisis at the beginning of the 1970s,
only four powered end units were finished and designated
as the class 602.

Informations concernant la locomotive réelle
Du fait de leur vitesse maximale limitée à 140 km/h, les
rames automotrices diesels de la série 601 (VT 11.5) mises
en service à partir de 1957 ne remplissaient pas à 100 %
les conditions requises vers 1970 pour le trafic Intercity. La
Deutsche Bundesbahn décida en conséquence d’équiper
quelques motrices de tête d’une puissante turbine à gaz en
remplacement du moteur diesel utilisé jusqu’alors. Cette
transformation entraîna également une modification de
l’aspect de ces dernières du fait de l’agrandissement des
entrées d’air et de la cheminée d’échappement.
Grâce à la puissance double des turbines à gaz compa-
rées aux moteurs diesels, la vitesse maximale des rames
automotrices put être relevée à 160 km/h. Cet accroisse-
ment de vitesse ne fut cependant obtenu que moyennant
une consommation de carburant accrue. Compte tenu des
conséquences de la première crise du pétrole au
début
des années septante, seules quatre motrices
de tête furent
terminées et numérotées dans la série 602.

Het sinds 1957 in dienst zijnde diesel-treinstel van de serie
601 (VT 11.5) was rond 1970 met een maximumsnelheid van
140 km/h niet meer voor de volle honderd procent opgewas-
sen tegen de
eisen die gesteld werden aan het intercity-
verkeer. Daarom besloot de Deutsche Bundesbahn enkele
motorwagens uit te rusten met een zwaardere gasturbine
in plaats van de tot dan toe gebruikte dieselmotoren. Deze
ombouw leidde ook
tot duidelijke optische veranderingen
aan de motor-wagens vanwege de vergrote luchtinlaten en
uitlaatschoorstenen.
Dankzij het dubbele vermogen van de gasturbines ten op-
zichte van de dieselmotoren steeg de maximumsnelheid tot
160 km/h. Dit moest men echter bekopen met een beduidend
hoger brandstof-verbruik. Vanwege de gevolgen van de
eerste oliecrisis, begin van de zeventiger jaren, werden
slechts vier motorwagens omgebouwd en omgenummerd
naar serie 602.

• Leesookaandachtigdeveiligheidsvoorschrifteninde
gebruiksaanwijzing van uw bedrijfssysteem.
