Chapter 1
Introduction
The Natus ErgoJust is an ergonomic cart used with Natus NeuroWorks/SleepWorks devices and
accessories to provide a complete portable workstation for EEG applications. It features mounting
brackets for Natus amplifier base units, acquisition computer with NeuroWorks/SleepWorks
software, a monitor, pan-tilt-zoom (PTZ) video camera, IR light and microphone, Natus photic
stimulator, isolation transformer (ISO) or uninterruptible power supply (UPS) and basket(s) for
clinical supplies. This portable workstation can be stationed at the point of care in any hospital
room as a comprehensive solution for routine EEG tests and long-term EEG monitoring (LTM).

Using this manual
This manual describes the theory, features, set up, operation and maintenance of the Natus ErgoJust
cart. It also provides information on specifications and getting help.
When reviewing the procedures, we recommend you read the entire section first, before beginning
a sequence. Please follow the instructions carefully.
IMPORTANT: All ErgoJust cart systems must be installed or upgraded by a qualified and trained
Natus technician or representative.
IMPORTANT: Do not attach any cables until all components have been mounted. The Cable
Management section describes where to connect and route cables.
Some components may have been factory mounted and cabled on the cart. The cabling diagrams
includes steps even for those cables that have been factory connected so you can confirm the
connections are secure.
We strongly recommend that you read the Warnings and Cautions section of
this manual before operating this cart system.
Intended use
The Natus ErgoJust cart is an accessory for Natus EEG devices based on the NeuroWorks/
SleepWorks platform. It provides a portable workstation that houses all equipment (offered by
Natus) needed to conduct a video EEG study for routine and LTM applications.
Manual conventions
Various symbols and typographical conventions are used throughout the manual. The following
table illustrates them and describes their meanings and functions.

Safety Summary
Warnings The following is an overview of Warnings pertaining to the Natus ErgoJust system cart. Additional
Warnings and Cautions are located in the various sections of this User guide. Please read and
understand the information in this User guide and any accompanying documentation thoroughly
before using the Natus ErgoJust cart system.
The function or safety of the equipment could be impaired if it has been subjected to
unfavorable conditions in storage or in transit. If, at any time, function or safety is thought to
be impaired, the instrument should be taken out of operation and secured against unintended
use.
Disconnect all power sources from all system components before servicing.
Conductive parts of electrodes and their connectors are not to contact other conductive parts
and earth.
The Natus Neurology Incorporated system is NOT intended for use with High Frequency
Surgical Equipment.
To avoid possible safety hazards caused by the summation of leakage currents when several
system components are interconnected, other equipment connected to the system should be
powered by a Natus-approved isolation transformer (ISO) or Uninterruptible Power Supply
(UPS).
Connecting other medical equipment, such as a cardiac pacemaker or other electrical
stimulators, simultaneously to the same patient may constitute a safety hazard. The Natus
ErgoJust system is not defibrillator proof. The Amplifier Base Unit (electrode input device)
should be disconnected before using a defibrillator.
The oximeter port is only rated for ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) immunity when the
oximeter is connected or if an oximeter port cover is in place. Either the oximeter or the
oximeter port cover should be connected to the port at all times when in use.
This product must be cleaned and checked periodically. Do not use a defective product. Parts
that are broken, missing, worn, or contaminated should be replaced immediately.
This product must not be altered without the prior written approval of Natus Neurology
Incorporated. The user of this product shall have the sole responsibility for any malfunction
that results from improper use, faulty maintenance, improper repair, unauthorized service,
or alteration by anyone other than Natus Neurology Incorporated.
The safety, reliability, and performance of this device can only be assured under the
following conditions:
•If the device has been used according to the accompanying operating instructions.
•If changes or repairs have been carried out by Natus Neurology Incorporated.
•If it is used in buildings having ground equalization wiring that complies with relevant
UL, CSA, IEC or other local standards and regulations.
Impact Hazard! Moving parts can crush and cut.
Minimize lift tension before removing mounted equipment. Failure to heed this warning may
result in serious personal injury or property damage.
1. Lower work surface to lowest position.
2. Turn adjustment nut at top of riser counterclockwise until it stops (may require 40-60
turns to minimize lift tension).

3. After removing or adding equipment, adjust lift tension to compensate for weight of new
load.
Do not load cart below minimum or above maximum weight capacities. Do not mount a
display larger than the recommended size. Failure to comply with this warning may result in
cart instability leading to equipment damage or personal injury.
Tipping Hazard! Failure to comply with the following warnings may result in cart instability
leading to equipment damage or personal injury.
•Do not allow children to climb on cart.
•Do not route electric cords or equipment cables within reach of children.
•Lock all casters when cart is stationary.
•Do not move cart with display in the highest position.
•Do not move cart over cords or uneven, dirty, wet or sloping surfaces.
•Do not move cart by pushing on the display.
Stored energy hazard! Failure to heed the following warnings may result in serious Personal
Injury and damage both to the cart and equipment.
•A primary mechanism within the cart is under tension and can be hazardous to people
exposed to it under certain conditions.
•Do not open the cart tower or base.
•Do not attempt to service the cart.
•Do not remove safety guards or labels designed to protect or inform of possible hazards.
•Only Natus and Ergotron approved installers may service or otherwise modify the cart.

Voltage requirements
Computer
requirements
The computer used for the cart-based system accepts AC voltage ranges of 100V/115V and 230V
50-60 Hz.
ISO or UPS
requirements
The Natus ErgoJust cart must be used with a Natus-approved ISO or UPS to provide electrically
isolated power to all system devices. Please contact Natus Technical Support for more information.
Patient isolation requirements
To ensure that your system is fully electrically isolated and to help guard
your patient against excessive current leakage, connect the main components as described in
this guide.

When the equipment comes to the end of its operating life, it should be disposed of in accordance
with local waste regulation authority, which is typically within the local government office.

Cleaning recommendations
ErgoJust cart All paints and plastic components will withstand cleaning by most commonly used, diluted, non-
abrasive solutions such as quaternary ammonia compounds, ammonia enzyme cleaners, bleach or
alcohol solutions. It is recommended that any cleaning solution be tested on a small, inconspicuous
area to ensure the surface is not harmed.
•Pen and permanent and dry erase markers can be removed with 91% isopropyl alcohol and a soft
cloth.
•Iodine stains can be removed with commonly used cleaners and a soft cloth.
•Never use steel wool or other abrasive materials that will damage the surface finish.
System components Cleaning consists of removing all dust from the exterior surface of the system with a soft brush or
cloth. Use a brush to dislodge any dirt on or around the connectors and panel edges. Remove any
dirt with a soft cloth, slightly dampened with a mild detergent solution or cold sterilization agent.
For Natus amplifier devices, refer to the corresponding user and service manual.
Turn OFF system power before cleaning. Prevent detergent solution or cold
disinfecting agents from seeping into the electronics of the instrument. Be especially careful
around controls, connectors and edge panels. Do not use abrasive cleaners.
Preventive maintenance
Electrical safety testing is recommended. It is recommended a schedule be established for these purposes, with
at least an annual cleaning and safety testing. This system does not require calibration unless otherwise stated.
Preventative maintenance does not require access to the interior of the instrument and may be performed by
the user. For this device, preventative maintenance consists of periodically cleaning and inspecting the
exterior of the instrument.
It is recommended that all repairs be performed by a qualified Natus Neurology Incorporated service
representative only. You have the sole responsibility for any malfunctions resulting from improper
maintenance or repair by anyone other than an authorized Natus Neurology Incorporated representative.
If the system is not functioning properly, do not operate it until all necessary repairs are made and unit is
tested for proper functioning in accordance with Natus Neurology Incorporated published specifications. It is
recommended that all repairs be performed by a qualified service representative only.
Switch off all power to the system before attempting any service, maintenance, or preventive maintenance.
If the system or any component is repaired, it is recommended that all system functionality be checked and an
electrical safety test be performed prior to resuming use.

Adjusting the Natus ErgoJust cart components
The Natus ErgoJust cart work, keyboard and monitor may be adjusted to use in sitting or standing
positions. Adjust the height of these components to a comfortable position to minimize strain on
the arms, wrists, neck and eyes. The monitor and keyboard tray can further be tilted forward and
backward according to individual user preference.
It is recommended that you first adjust the keyboard tray to desired position and then the monitor.
NOTE: Once the cart has been positioned at the desired location, lock all four caster wheels in
place before using it.
Locking/unlocking the
wheels
1. Raise the locking levers (Figure 1) on all four wheels to transport the ErgoJust cart.
2. Lower the locking levers on all four wheels to lock the ErgoJust cart in place.

ErgoJust cart
1. Push the display monitor down to the lowest position.
2. Disconnect the power cord from the ISO or UPS and secure the cord to the cart.
3. Unlock the casters and point the casters in the direction of travel.
4. Use the rear handle to push the cart using both hands.
NOTE: If there is a photic stimulator mounted on the cart, swivel the arm and secure it close to the
cart pole to avoid damage during transport.
Adjusting the work
surface height
1. Place your hands below the work surface and lift slowly upward to raise the work surface.
(Figure 2).
2. Place your hands on top of the work surface and push slowly downward to lower the work
surface.

Extending the
keyboard tray
1. Place your hands below the keyboard tray and lift slowly upward to extend the tray to the
maximum position (Figure 3).
2. Place your hands on top of the keyboard tray and push slowly downward to retract the tray.

Extending the mouse
holder tray
You can extend the mouse holder tray to use the mouse on the tray.
NOTE: Store the mouse in the mouse holder when not in use or transporting the cart.

1. Grasp the mouse holder tray and gently pull outward to extend the tray.

The mouse holder may be mounted on either the left or right side of the work surface for left or
right handed mouse operation.
1. Using a flat blade screwdriver, carefully pry the mouse holder tab (1) while pulling down
gently (2) on the mouse holder (Figure 1).

2. Slide the mouse tray full left or right as desired for left or right handed mouse operation.
3. Align the locking tab on the mouse holder with the mounting slot on the mouse tray and push
gently upwards until the locking tab snaps into place.
NOTE: Store the mouse in the mouse holder when not in use and when transporting the cart.

Raising/lowering the
monitor
1. Place your hands below the monitor and pull upwards to raise the monitor (Figure 1).
2. Place your hands on top of the monitor and push downwards to lower the monitor.

NOTE: The keyboard tray and work surface are attached and cannot be height adjusted
independently of each other.
NOTE: Do not attempt to adjust keyboard tray height by pushing down or pulling up on it. Adjust
the work surface.
NOTE: To achieve maximum monitor height adjustment range, the work surface height may need
to be adjusted.
