SAM 42 - An excellent choice
SAM 42 is a supply air module that, together with an exhaust air heat
pump from NIBE, gives you a complete solution for mechanical exhaust
air and pre-heated supply air.
EXCELLENT PROPERTIES FOR SAM 42:
•Low noise level
The supply air module has a low noise level.
•Easy to install
The supply air module is easy to install together with a compatible heat
pump from NIBE. The supply air module is connected to the heat pump,
which allows you to read off the supply air module’s values from the
heat pump’s display.

2 The heating installation – the
heart of the house

Supply air module function
A supply air module utilises, via the heat pump, the heat in the building’s
ventilation air to heat up the incoming outdoor air.
Outdoor air
The outdoor air is transferred to the supply air module via the house’s ventilation
system.
A
In the supply air module, the air absorbs the heat energy and the temperature is raised.
B
A fan blows the heated air into those rooms that have supply air inlets.
C
The temperatures are only examples and may vary between different installations and
time of year.

Maintenance of SAM 42
REGULAR CHECKS
Your supply air module requires minimal maintenance after commission-
ing. On the other hand, it is recommended that you check your installation
regularly.
If something unusual occurs, messages about the malfunction, in the
form of different alarm texts, appear in the heat pump display.
NIBE SAM 42Chapter 2 | The heating installation – the heart of the house10

Replacing the air filter
The filter in SAM 42 is of a type that should not be cleaned, but has to
be replaced instead. Replacement must be performed regularly, at least
once a year. More frequent intervals may be necessary, depending on
the quantity of particles in the air as well as other environmental factors.
Test to find out what is most appropriate for your installation.
In the main product’s display, you will receive a reminder to check the
filter. The factory setting for the reminder is every three months, although
the countdown begins again if the power to the main product is interrup-
ted.
1. Switch off the main product.
2. Remove the front hatch by pulling it straight out.
3. Remove the cover and withdraw the filter.
4. Check the condition of the filter and replace if needed.
5. Carry out assembly in reverse order.
Even if the filter looks clean, dirt collects in it and this affects the effi-
ciency of the filter. For this reason, the filter must be replaced at least
once a year. A new filter can be ordered via a dealer for NIBE.

In most cases, the compatible heat pump notes a malfunction (a malfunc-
tion can lead to disturbance in comfort) and indicates this with alarms
and action instructions in the display.
If the operational interference is not shown in the display the following
tips can be used:
BASIC ACTIONS
Start by checking the following items:
• That the heat pump is operating and the supply cable to SAM 42 is
connected.
• Group and main fuses of the accommodation.
• The property's earth circuit breaker.
LOW HOT WATER TEMPERATURE OR A LACK OF HOT
WATER
• The heat pump has temporarily prioritised supply air ventilation to
prevent too low temperatures in the supply air coil.
LOW OR A LACK OF VENTILATION
• Filter blocked.
– Change the filter.
• The ventilation is not adjusted.
– Order ventilation adjustment.
• Supply air device closed, blocked or throttled down too much.
– Check the supply air inlets.
• Check external frost protection (outdoor air damper).
13Chapter 3 | Disturbances in comfortNIBE SAM 42
3 Disturbances in comfort

HIGH OR DISTRACTING VENTILATION
• Filter blocked.
– Change the filter.
• The ventilation is not adjusted.
– Order ventilation adjustment.
LOW SUPPLY AIR TEMPERATURE
• Air in the heating medium system.
– Venting SAM 42. See section Venting.
• Incorrect value set in supply air automatic control system.
– Contact your installer!
HIGH SUPPLY AIR TEMPERATURE
• Incorrect value set in supply air automatic control system.
– Contact your installer!
NIBE SAM 42Chapter 3 | Disturbances in comfort14

DISTURBANCES IN COMFORT
Disturbances in comfort are undesirable changes to the hot water/indoor
comfort, for example when the temperature of the hot water is too low
or if the indoor temperature is not at the desired level.
A malfunction in the heat pump can sometimes be noticed in the form
of a disturbance in comfort.
In most cases, the heat pump notes operational interference and indicates
this with alarms and shows instructions in the display.
EXHAUST AIR
The air coming via the exhaust air valves in the various rooms of the ac-
commodation, to the heat pump.
OUTDOOR AIR
Air that is drawn into the SAM 42 and heated.
SUPPLY AIR
The heated air that is blown from SAM 42 and out into the room.
SUPPLY AIR DEVICE
Valves, usually in the ceiling, where the heated supply air is blown out.
