2. Overview of the product
The Model EMP Gold+ MercuryAnalyzer is designed for measuring mercury contained
in very low concentrations of air or LP gas.

3. Installation and connections
3.1. Installation of the analyzer
Caution
Comply with the installation environment and power specification.
Electric shock may occur.
Install on flat, level, and stable workbench with surface parallel to
floor.
Devices while connected in the carrying case has been housed, basically the
connection is not required.
If you have made the repair, etc, please connect to the following procedure.
1) ConnectAu Unit to EMP and the gas inlet.
2) Connect the Battery of Au Unit.

4. Startup and Shutdown
(1) Turn on the power switch of EMP.
(2) After making sure the battery is connected to Au Unit, turn on the power switch of
Au Unit.
(3)Thereafter, EMP will be possible to control Au Unit.
(4) After shutdown of EMP, turn off the power switch of Au Unit.

5.2. Measurement sequence

・When the sampling starts, and the collector tube is kept
~150℃. (HeatMax Time)
・At the end of gas sampling, Zero correction is performed.
・The pump stops and the collection tube is heated and then
mercury is released.(Heat Time)
・The fan runs to cool the collecting tubes.(Cooling Time)
・The pump restarts to send the mercury to EMP, and the
amount of mercury is calculated.

5.3. Selection of EMP Gold+
(1) When turn on the power switch of EMP, the warm-up begins.
After warm-up for 10 minutes, READY screen is displayed.

(2) Select 【MENU】-【NEXT】-【Au Mode】.
Select 【LPG Mode】,When you measure the LP gas, otherwise, select 【Ambient Mode】.

5.4. Setting the measurement conditions
(1) Select 【Setting】-【Ambient Mode】or 【Setting】-【LPG Mode】.
(2) It is possible to change the measurement conditions depending on the purpose.

5.5. Creating a calibration curve
(1) Select 【Ambient Mode】-【Calibration】.

Select if you use the known calibration curve.
Enter the a and b of “Y=ax+b”.

STD Measurement
Create a calibration curve by using the mercury standard gas.

PEAK/AREA
Select the Peak or AREA of peak profile, by which calibration
curve is created . Under AREA mode the battery can work
longer than PEAK, but use PEAK for ambient air.

(2) Select 【STD Measurement】, create a calibration curve using a mercury standard
gas.
Select the button of the STD[ng] column and enter the temperature(℃) and injecting
volume(μl). Mercury amount is automatically calculated.

(3) Connect the septum joint in “SAMPLING IN”.
After pressing the START button, inject the mercury standard gas taken with a
syringe from the septum inlet.
During the measurement, the peak profile screen is displayed.
(4) After the measurement, it automatically returns to the STD Measurement screen
and the measurement results are displayed.
(5) If you press the GRAPH button, the results of the calibration curve is displayed.

(6) After the completion of calibration, select 【MENU】-【STD save】.
Calibration curve results are recorded on the SD card and you will not be able to
change the calibration curve.

(7) After saving PEAK calibration, press ③of (1) to change PEAK toAREA.
AREA calibration is obtained without measuring again. Save it, too. Afterward the
both measurements of PEAK and AREA are available.

5.6. Measurement
Ambient measurement procedure and LPG measurement procedure is different.
5.6.1. Ambient measurement
(1) Select 【Ambient Mode】-【Sample Measurement】.
Connect the N-Packer in the case of measurement on the surface of the ground.
(2) Select 【START】after the settings.
Sampling time is usually 5 minutes in geothermal measurement, 10 to 30 minutes
in the general environment.
During the measurement, peak profile screen is displayed.

5.6.2. LPG Measurement
When measuring the LPG, collect the LP gases in the sampling bag.
(1) Select 【LPG Mode】-【Sample Measurement】.
(2) Before the start of the measurement, adjust the sampling flow rate.
Select 【MENU】-【Flow rate】.
In the case of LPG unmeasured, automatically displayed the screen of adjust the
flow rate.
(3) Select 【START】after the setting.
(4)After the measurement, it automatically returns to the Measurement screen and
the measurement results are displayed.
(5) After measurement, select 【MENU】-【Sample Save】.
