About the users
Introduction
There are various types of users who can use the Océ Colorado 1640 each with its own role in the
complete workflow.
The various roles can be filled in by the same person or by multiple people. This manual is
mainly written for the Printer operator.
Prepress operator
• Receives and prepares job
• Uses design suites and RIP front ends to prepare the specific jobs
• Delivers 'ready to print jobs' to the printer operator
Media specialist
• Creates media profiles for new media or applications
• Manages media types and media profiles
Printer operator
• Operates the RIP to process and print jobs
• Manages the jobs, such as pausing, resuming and deleting jobs, loading, winding and cutting
media etc.
• Operates the printer and takes care of the daily use
• Maintains the printer, such as cleaning the matrix plate, maintenance station, refilling ink etc.
System administrator
• Configures and manages the network
• Configures and manages the security settings
• Keeps the system up-to-date and secure
• Controls access

The Océ Colorado 1640 is a 64 inch roll to roll production printer that uses a unique UV gel ink
technology.

Introduction
When you operate the Océ Colorado 1640 you have to take note of the safety precautions and
follow the guidelines.

Stickers
Take note of the safety and precaution stickers in and on the machine. You can find an

Working with UVgel ink
The Océ Colorado 1640 UVgel ink needs to be handled with care. Follow the instructions in this
manual to work with ink safely and read all the warnings before you start the procedure. When
you have to clean ink protect yourself and follow the prescribed procedure. For more information,
