EPA ENERGY STAR®
EPA ENERGY STAR®
Introduction
Océ-Technologies B.V. has joined the Energy Star®Program of the United States
Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The purpose of the Energy Star®Program
is to promote the manufacturing and marketing of energy-efficient equipment,
thereby potentially reducing combustion-related pollution.
Using the energy management features outlined below prevents unnecessary power
consumption, which helps to prevent air pollution from electricity generating plants
and saves money on your utility bills.
As an Energy Star®Partner, Océ-Technologies B.V. has determined that the Océ
VarioPrint®4110/4120 meets the Energy Star®criteria for energy efficiency laid
down in the Energy Star Program Requirements for Imaging Equipment (Version
1.0).
Energy consumption
The energy consumption of Imaging Equipment can be determined by means of the
TEC-procedure. This procedure was developed under the responsibility of the
United States Environmental Protection Agency. TEC stands for Typical Electricity
Consumption. The TEC value of a product represents the energy consumed in a
week under standardised conditions. For the Océ VarioPrint®4110/4120 the TEC
value is listed in the Product Safety Data Sheet included in this manual.
Power modes and delay times
The energy consumption and efficiency are influenced both by the product
technology and by the settings chosen by the user, especially the delay times that are
selected to enter reduced power states. The following delay times are preset.
[1]
The modes above are automatically entered after the default delay time has elapsed,
counting from the moment that the last print was produced. These settings are
recommended and for most users ensure both ease of use and low energy
[1] Preset delay times
Operating mode Default delay time (in minutes)
Low power mode 15 (possible range: 1-240 minutes)
Sleep mode 60 (possible range: 1-240 minutes)
Off mode Press the power switch

17
EPA ENERGY STAR®
consumption. The values between brackets are the minimum and maximum values.
The key operator can change the delay times.
Shorter delay times within this range will lower the energy consumption even
further, but can cause longer recovery times.
In some cases longer delay times can prove to be more convenient, but it should be
noted that longer delay times can cause an increase in energy consumption.
Therefore, from an energy preservation point of view, longer delay times are not
recommended.
Standby power (Federal Energy Management Program)
Note: After shutting down all systems properly, the standby mode as defined by
FEMP is reached by putting the power switch in the "O" position.
[4]
This product meets the following criteria for the United States Federal Energy
Management Program (FEMP):
■In standby mode, this product consumes less than 1 W.
■This product meets the EPA ENERGY STAR®guidelines for energy efficiency.
[5]
Automatic duplex
Using both sides of paper reduces paper costs, national energy consumption and the
amount of paper in the waste disposal process. Therefore, the Océ VarioPrint®
4110/4120 is by default set to automatic duplex printing.

18 Chapter 1 Safety information (GB)
EPA ENERGY STAR®
Recycled paper
The use of recycled paper also benefits the environment. The Océ VarioPrint®
4110/4120 is designed to use recycled paper, which complies with the requirements
of EN 12281:2002. Product literature on recommended types of recycled copier
paper can be obtained from your local Océ Company or Océ Headquarters
(Océ-Technologies B.V.) in Venlo, the Netherlands.
