Charging AA
rechargeable batteries
To charge AA batteries, simply slide open
the unit and slot the batteries into the cradle
according to the polarity shown in the
picture below. Due to the powerchimp 4A’s
independent charging feature, you can charge
up to four batteries at the same time and the
4 LED charging indicators will tell you when
each battery is fully charged (Please see LED
charging indicators for details of how the
lights work).
Charging AAA
rechargeable batteries
using the AA to AAA
battery converter
If you wish to recharge 4 x AAA batteries at
the same time, the kit contains an AA to AAA
battery converter that is stored securely within
a small compartment (6) at the base of the
powerchimp 4A unit (1). With the lights on the
top, simply place your thumb over the small
notch at the bottom of the unit and lift the small
ap. Tip the battery converter out from the
compartment. Remove the 4 x AA batteries
from the cradle. Insert the converter into
the top of the battery tray along the positive
terminal and then insert your AAA batteries.
Always store the converter in the compartment
when not in use.
Please note: AAA rechargeable batteries are
NOT included.
Charging dierent size
rechargeable batteries
at the same time
You do not even need to charge the same make
of battery at the same time as the powerchimp
4A device will charge any make or model of AA
or AAA rechargable batteries simultaneously
using the 2 x AAA to AA battery adaptor tubes
provided (5).
Please note: AAA rechargeable batteries are
NOT included.

Single LED output light
LED charging indicators
The row of four LED input indicator lights will
light up rst red then green; this will repeat three
times. Then the red light will light up once to
determine which slots are in use.
Due to its independent charging feature, each
battery is charged independently. A red solid
light indicates that the corresponding battery
channel is charging. When the indicator light
is not illuminated, the corresponding battery
compartment is empty.

When the powerchimp 4A is charging a 5V
device and the female USB to micro USB cable
(3) is still attached, the single LED output light
at the top of the unit will illuminate solid green.
This is not an indication of the device being
fully charged.
Please note: You must always remove the
cable when you are not using the powerchimp
4A to conserve the battery’s power.
When non-rechargeable batteries are used, the
corresponding LED input light will ash red slowly.
You can only recharge rechargeable batteries. If
batteries short-circuit, the input light will ash quickly.
Once the battery inside each compartment is fully
charged, the corresponding LED will turn green.
Recharging 5V devices
via micro US
To recharge a 5V USB device (Smartphone, GPS,
SatNav, etc) from the powerchimp 4A, attach
the micro USB to female USB cable (3) to the
powerchimp 4A (1) and use the USB cable that
came with your device to attach to the female

You can also use standard AA batteries to
recharge 5V USB devices.
When the single LED output light turns from
solid green to solid red while you are charging a
device, this indicates that the battery capacity is
getting low and it needs recharging.
If the output light illuminates solid red or does
not show any light when the female USB to
micro USB cable still attached, this means the
wrong battery is being used or it is the wrong
polarity. Please check the batteries are inserted
correctly and remove cable to protect batteries
from over-discharging. It can also mean that the
batteries are low and that they need recharging.
Caution: Do not dispose of batteries in re, do not connect (+)
and (-) with metal wire, do not directly solder anything to the
battery, do not mix with other type of batteries when charging.
Do not store batteries under high temperature or high humidity.
